Better than Panda Express. Parking is in a shared lot so I didn't have any difficulty finding any. I came on a Thursday afternoon and it wasn't busy but I can definitely see it getting busy. Service was so nice & friendly. It was nice to be able to try samples since I haven't been there before. The ambiance is clean & bright with a lot of indoor & outdoor seating. Came here with the kids. Seating for 3+ people can be a challenge if you don't get lucky with timing. However, the service at the counter was pretty fast. We got the wagyu/pork rice (not bad at all, but definitely a lot more $ than the plain rice and noodles), mapo tofu (good, but they didn't have wagyu so they substituted ground beef), brussel sprouts (not bad but probably not worth getting again), orange peel chicken (not as good as Panda's but few are), and tomato egg (good). Total before tips was about $30. If my kids ate more, we probably would've needed one more item but as it was, this was plenty for us. A heads up that the actual food does not look as good as the photos or the 'amber'ized' models, but the taste is good. Definitely worth trying, though, if you don't mind parking potentially being a PITA. read more

Service was quite fast, they were out of chow mein so it was only a 6 minute wait and was able to get a fresh batch. Portion size is slightly heavier on the main (chow mein or white rice) than a 2 entree plate at Panda Express and then a bit smaller on the entrees compared to Panda. Got the minced beef and pork and mapo tofu for $10.99 and liked both a lot. Just wish they gave slightly more on the entrees. Finally had a chance to try this new place. The line had always been out the door so we went on an off time on a Sunday afternoon. There was no wait and plenty of seating. The staff was very welcoming and helpful, even offering suggestions and samples. The portions look small, but it's actually quite filling and for $30 we were able to feed a family of four with a small amount of leftovers -- so that's a win. Food was good. Everything tasted fresh. Some things weren't as warm/hot as we would have liked, but we liked everything we ordered. We didn't try anything too spicy because of the kids, but we even liked the rice. For the bases we got chow mein and the braised pork and wagyu beef rice bowl. Both excellent for very simple dishes. For mini bowls we got the garlic eggplant and green beans, sweet tomato and scrambled eggs (only thing the kids didn't like), orange peel chicken (which is very sweet, maybe a little too sweet), and an order of the pork buns. So many things to try; I know we'll be back. I'd stick with the bowls, the buns weren't anything special. The food is alright, nothing particularly standout. I had the beef bowl with eggplant and green beans. One staple plus one dish is enough for a normal meal to feel full without overeating, for reference, I usually go with about 1.2 lb of food at pick-your-own malatang places. However, I really wanted to try the pepper pork as well, so bringing someone with you would let you try more dishes. I took one star off because the green beans and eggplant needed more salt, and they didn't do a good job removing the stems that form when the beans start to get old. The staffs are friendly and the place is clean, so no complaints there. One thing I think this place could benefit from is having some sort of highly visible "willing to share table" sign on the tables. There are bar-style solo window seats, tables for two, and tables for four, but the place is small and seating is limited. When it's packed, some customers might be okay sharing a table with strangers, while others may not feel comfortable asking. A simple flip sign to indicate willingness to share could really help. That said, this idea comes from my experience eating at China's 大排档 and Brazilian steakhouses, so I'm not sure how well this approach would be received in reality. read more

Great idea! Good value! Love the system. Tried Tigawok for lunch. Went in a little before 12pm so the line was not that bad. The staff are still in training as the soft opening happened recently. Theyre all really kind and full of info to give for first timers. I got the rice as my base and orange chicken and the wagyu curry as my proteins. All came out to $13 subtotal which is a bargain in Irvine. They have convenient togo lids and bags readily available for those in a rush to get back to the office. They even have delicious traditional spicy chili sauce and pickled radishes on the side for you to take. Food was very good for the cost hopefully the quality wont go down too fast. I couldnt finish everything. Next time I may do the steamed veggies as a substitute base rather than the rice. Overall impressed with how efficient everything was and how low the cost was for lunch in Irvine. read more

I stumbled on this spot on the way out of Trader Joe's. I wasn't sure what to get or how to order but staff were so friendly and gave recs and samples. I actually ordered a few things and they were so yummy I ordered more to go for my family. My favorites were the mapo tofu, curry, braised pork, eggplant and orange chicken. They also have cute free to go bags and re-usable to go containers which came in handy for snack containers. Cant wait to try more things! read more
