The coffeehouse is spacious and rarely packed. Lots of foot traffic because it's good coffee and good service! This is the first place I go for salads. There are many salad options in the area but none come close to TC. You get a nice balance of everything instead of lettuce. Favorites of mine: Cobb or Greek. Sandwich: chicken on go. Must try. Everybody in my office loves Timgad! They carry Compass coffee, a DC roaster that is one of the best roasters I've found. If you buy beans, bring the cannister back in for a refill and you'll get $1 off. Timgad's pastries are fresh-baked and delicious - my favorites so far are the ham & cheese croissant, almond croissant, and cinnamon coffee cake. They also do great egg sandwiches with sun-dried tomato or applewood bacon. For lunch they do sandwiches on baguettes; I prefer to get their boards full of olives, hummus, veggies, cheeses, gherkins and baguette. A tip - if you're ordering a latte or cappucino, the cup sizes run smaller than you'll expect, so order up. :-) Oh and the staff is lovely. They know and love their products, and give great recommendations if you're waffling. As an independent coffeehouse, Timgad would be a wonderful addition to Federal Triangle even if the pastries weren't great, the coffee delicious, and the staff awesome. Yum! I have been trying to drink less dairy because it messes with my stomach, and the iced vanilla latte with almond milk at Timgad was a lifesaver! This cozy coffee shop is conveniently located in the former Quiznos space and serves espresso, sandwiches, and smoothies. I'm off coffee, so I opted for a strawberry smoothie. The smoothie was refreshing but had an artificial taste because of the packaged ingredients. The cost ($4.75+ tax for a 12oz smoothie) is pricey for a smoothie made without real fruit. I would have been better off making my own fresh fruit smoothie at home. The shop is brightly lit with a few seats for dining in. The customer service today was wonderful. I'm not on client site every day but when I am, I usually come here for my morning (and sometimes afternoon pick me up) cup of coffee. I've had an array of their lattes and brewed coffee and all have been good for your usual cups. Service is always outstanding, quick, and attentive. Definitely recommend this 'mom and pop' shop if you're in the area site seeing on the mall nearby! 4 stars for the coffee ONLY b/c I wish they had my fave lavender vanilla latte from Bourbon Coffee (their iced cold brew coffee and timgad latte are really good!), 5 stars for all their baked goods, and 5 stars for service and overall pleasant, not overly done but just enough enthusiasm at its too early in the morning bc I haven't had my coffee just yet, happiness from everyone on the staff. Timgad Cafe just opened today in the location formerly occupied by Quiznos, right outside the Federal Triangle Metro Stop. They promise to have premade sandwiches and pastries in the future, but since they're just getting started, right now they're just serving a few sandwiches and coffees. The place has a real hipster vibe, and I'm not sure how well it will serve a clientele that's almost entirely tourists and feds. On one wall they have a selection of candles, bowls, and other turkish (?) knick-knacks; there was a guy with a guitar playing in the corner. Other than the ambiance, there's not much to set them apart from the 3 other dedicated coffee shops in the Reagan Building. Even when they're up to serving their full menu, the food selections look a bit sparse. They've got 3 sandwiches (all variations on italian meats) and a few other things, but not enough to grab a lunch crowd. Under breakfast, the menu says to check the display cases, so I guess they aren't doing sandwiches like bacon, egg and cheese? If you want something other than coffee to drink, you're out of luck. They've got some teas, water, and San Pelligrino, but no fruit juices or sodas. One small sticking point for me is their register makes you skip past a screen for the tipping amount; I don't appreciate being asked to tip when it's not a full service restaurant. Ok now that Timgad has been open for a while I feel like I need to update and upgrade their review. I'm upgrading from three to four and thinking it has the potential to get to 5 stars soon. First off I realize now that this is a cafe in the style of a Starbucks and what I mean by that is the focus is on the drinks and not on the food. They brew Compass Coffee which is a local coffee company created by two Marines. This in itself is a matter of DC pride as its a local company and Timgad is your local Cafe. Even better is the fact that the coffee is really good. Much better than Starbucks and fairly close in price $2.15 for medium (tall) and $2.75 for Large (Grande). Compass coffee is served at Founding Farmers if you need a reference point. The pastries are fresh and they have already established a following of regulars here. They know them by name. It has a local and warm vibe. I originally went because I prefer to support small business over the big brands but when you offer a superior product and service word will travel. Give them a try. I would like to see them increase the food offerings a bit. I'd come more often if that was the case. I usually get the ham and cheese croissant. It's fresh and flaky and tastes good. Definitely a conveniently-located coffee shop (although not necessarily for us since it took a while for us to find it at night since it's not technically on ground level). We needed a couple of nice warm cups of coffees before we headed back to Columbia Heights where we were staying and found ourselves coming in here 30 minutes before close to relax from a long day of walking around the monuments and being inside some museums. Upon walking in, we were greeted by an employee by the front door who was cleaning. Behind the counter, we ordered two coffees and they were ready just shortly thereafter. The music in this place seemed tropical; maybe Afro-influenced or South American. Both my cousin and I were very happy and appreciative for this music as we drank our coffees and can only imagine that that is the theme of this place seeing that there were some cool decor and gifts for sale on the wall. While we didn't interact too much with the staff, nor did we order anything else, we were happy with our choice to come here and try it out. Although they were about to close, we were able to take refuge with quickly made and delicious lattes, friendly staff, and peruse their decor while waiting for the rain to stop. Whats a Timgad you say... Well a wise man once told me that Timgad was an ancient hipster city where the best baristas in the world resided kind of like asheville or a portland (RI or OR you pick). Anyway, Timgad enjoyed many years of prosperity and refined the process of making potent yet delicate cups of coffee. Unfortunately, as fate would have it - the city was razed to the ground by an ambitious platinum colored hair woman and her dragons. Timgad has now been resurrected. It is located just outside the Ronald Regan Building on the lower level beside the Federal Triangle Metro entrance. They make great coffee and are skilled at making delicious lattes and cappuccinos. I'm just glad to see a restaurant quickly open in it's place because it usually takes awhile for a new establishment to return to that area. If you're looking for it, just follow the signs towards the Federal Triangle Metro station and it's on the lower level across from Market 2 Market and Connie's Nails. Let me first say that the customer service is amazing. They are extremely polite with everyone and it seems that they are very humble for everything they have. I can appreciate people with that type of attitude. I have gotten a few hot sandwiches from Timgad and although they're a little pricey, they're all worth every penny. I'm a stickler for high quality food, so price really isn't a factor for me when I spend money at this establishment. High quality meats, high quality bread...what more can you ask for. You taste the freshness and the flavor in every bite. Things such as that, along with their impeccable customer service will make me always return as a customer. You have to try their toffee frappuccino. It's so good and if I must say, it's on the same lines if not better than Starbucks if that's your thing. Their fresh bakery items are good as well. They don't taste like some plain bakery item that cafes get delivered from a truck, but they taste like they are freshly made on-site. So far I've had a blueberry muffin and a banana nut pound cake. I also like how they have their café set up. Nice seating arrangement and cool little ornaments on the wall. I never forget to read the quote of the day that's written by the register. It's always something insightful and positive. Lastly, let me add by saying this to the Yelper who had a comment about their computer screen asking for a tip. You tip someone based on the service you received and how well you were treated. It's not all about a server bringing food to your table. Not only that, I don't mind giving them a tip because I understand they are new and they are trying everything they can to stay afloat as a café in the Federal Triangle. Business can be tough in that area as people usually stick to what they're used to. I take it as an investment. Stumbled upon here on Yelp and realized that it is on the way to my office, so why not try it out? The shop is cozy, quaint, and reeks of delicious coffee beans upon walking in. I got the Genoa sandwich, a skinny sub with spicy meats, for $8.75; it was tasty but about half the size of a regular sub and left me hungry. No fountain sodas, not even a can of coke. I love this little café. I work in the building directly above this place and it is my new go to whenever I need my daily dose of caffeine. Before Timgad opened, I usually walked over to the closest Starbucks for my daily fix; but not anymore! Not only is this place super convenience but they also carry my favorite local brand (Compass). Timgad is clean and nicely appointed. The owner has done a great job of creating an inviting space to hang out. The staff is primarily comprised of young, high school/ college aged kids. They are all super friendly and professional and definitely know what they're doing. If coffee isn't your thing, they also carry a wide array of tea and other non-coffee products. The breakfast sandwiches are actually really good as are the pastries. If you're in the area and want to support a local small business, make sure to check them out.
