Restaurant review This place is packed! During our recent dinner out we were suprised how busy Timmy O'Toole would be at 5 pm. Remember to bring your driver license as they scan it at the front door. Overall the ambiance is consistent with a popular bar hang out for tourist and locals alike with lots of TVs to catch ongoing sport action. I was a bit suprise how loud it would be so early in the evening. The servers are friendly and always check up on how things are going. For dinner, the prices for the food was more than reasonable. Our nacho pulled pork appetizer was huge. It could have used more cheese sauce, but otherwise it was enough for 4 people and only cost 10 dollars. I had the chicken finger basket which was good, but not the best. The fried shrimp basket was way over priced with small shrimps that were advertised as "jumbo shrimp", but there was a healthy supply of fries underneath; but definately not worth 11 dollars. They should just do a popcorn shrimp basket instead..... One of the cool things is the Big Timmy Challenge, if you can eat 2 1/2 lb patties w/ lots of cheese, onion straws, bbq sauce, and fries/onion rings you get a free O'toole t-shirt but this will set you back 19.99. I have not given this a try yet.... Pro: good service, lots of flat screen TVs, most of the items are reasonably priced Cons: loud dining area, jumbo shrimp means normal size shrimp, nacho was a bit weak on the cheese sauce, long wait times if you go late. 20 dollar minimum on NFL sunday, sporting, and special events Hidden gem: Daily drink specials! read more

I think I always stop into Timothy O'Toole's when I'm visiting Michigan Ave. It is a fun spot to grab a drink and relax. I think it's really neat that it is underground, it adds to the ambience of the place (cozy but big sports bar in a big city). There are many tv's showing various sporting events, and this place gets crowded if a home team is playing. They have a very large beer menu and so many beers and ciders on tap. We made a brief stop in here during our last Chicago trip and it was packed! It was a Wednesday evening around 9:30pm and it seemed like a Friday or Saturday night!! But everyone, from the servers to the patrons, are very friendly. The space itself is quite large, larger than you would imagine. And it is always very clean - no sticky bar or floor (yay!!!) and the women's restroom has always been clean. I love a clean establishment!! I really want to try the food here, so I will certainly be coming back. Hopefully sooner rather than later :) read more

The glasses I received my drinks in were all dirty glasses. When I mentioned this to the manager he didn't even utter any type of apology. I wasn't asking to get anything comped just was pointing out how gross it was that my glasses had fingerprints, and lipstick stains. Will never come here again. read more

In town on business and had to fly in Sunday. Checked out O'Tooles because it was near my hotel. I will echo what others have said this is a great place to go and watch the games. I was there on an NFL Sunday and the place was not overly packed. Got a table by the bar where I could easily see 12 TVs - no exaggeration I counted, and there was another bank of 4 behind me. Service was fast and extremely friendly. Lot of beers on tap and I heard the waiter describing a few to the table next to me who seemed to beer experts - they seemed impressed when he walked away. Nice warm little place, I didn't get much of the Irish pub feel but was there for sports. Overall great place, in town on Sunday would highly recommend. I really love this place. It is a great little neighborhood bar located in the city. I come here quite often as it is down the street from my apartment and the food is pretty good for bar food. They often have great specials and activities planned which is a great break from the "no specials because you are a tourist and we can charge outragous prices". Came here for dinner while on a business trip to Chicago. I found this to be an excellent pub, with just the right ambience and good drinks and food to go along. When you enter you go down a flight of stairs, so the bar is slightly subterranean. It's a large area and slightly dark, just like a good pub should be. There's a large oval shaped bar, with seats going all around. I was able to find a seat at the bar when I visited. There are ample screens behind the bar playing a variety of sports events, so it's easy to watch games from anywhere you sit. There are lots of tables around eye bar for groups to sit at. When I went, the bar was extremely lively, with an animated crowd that made it feel like a fun place to be. They have a large number of craft beers on tap and advertise 48 beers on a sign outside. I ordered a Bell's Two Hearted Ale, one of my favorites The menu looked like pretty standard pub dare, and I got a Californian burger, which came with avocado, sprouts, and jack cheese, and was quite good. The die of cole slaw I had with it tasted pretty generic. All in all, I found this bar to be real fun to hang out at and would come here again if I visit Chicago again. read more

Timothy O'Toole's is a laid back Irish pub located in the loop. Located in the basement you walk down a set of stairs and to your left upon entering Timothy's. They offer sit down dining as well as bar area stools or standing around the pool tables. There is plenty of entertainment available at this bar with the pool tables, bar games and televisions. The bar staff was very friendly and this establishment draws all kinds of bar goers. There was a mix of some older regulars shooting pool, others eating dinner, and some people getting ready for a night out with a few drinks. Shared a pitcher of Coors here in about an hour experience. This probably won't be my last time here as NU students get a 10% discount with their WildCard. read more

Went back last week to try their veggie burger and nachos - Veggie burger was not bad but I hate how they charge 50c extra for a couple of pieces of onion!!! (and pretty much anything else you ask for - sauce, salsa, tomato - it's a standard 50c additional). The nachos were okay - nothing great either because they don't have vegetarian beans at all. They came slightly soggy because of too much sour cream and came with too little jalapenos and too little salsa. We asked for a little bit of salsa and a couple of jalapenos, the server didn't even tell us any of these things will be additional, and then went on to charge 50c + 50c + 50c!!! Especially when we're saving them all the money on the meat that we didn't put in the nachos - the least they can do is give us 2 pcs of jalapenos for no extra charge!!! read more

I used to come here every Monday after work with my band of coworkers for a late night meal. It's by far the cities best wing spot! So when i found out our volleyball games were at Ohio Beach, the memories flooded back and I had to come back! The wings are extra saucy, perfectly spiced, and still crispy. I don't know what they do but it's amazing! If you're not a celery and carrot stick person, you can trade the option for chips. Other notable items, their tater tot poutine! Mmmm.... how do you say no to miniature hash browns smothered in sauce and cheese! We came on a Thursday night, and the beer special was $5 blue moons. Maybe I've never noticed before, but they have an amazing selection of beer on tap! The menu highlights a good mix of local breweries and others. Stopped in last week while in Chicago. It has a great atmosphere - from the moment you enter and walk down the flight of stairs to the lighting and decor, it has that pub feel. For the full pub experience, sit at or around the bar itself. However, they have rooms with table seating where it's a little quieter and has more of a restaurant feel. The food was good. I had the ribs and my wife had wings. The ribs were falling off the bone, they were that tender. Drinks were excellent and service great. Went here to meet my friends on St. Patrick's day Weekend and had a good time. Workers checking IDs were very friendly. Was given a St. Pattys tee shirt for a nice souvenir and the manager came by and introduced himself to me and even took me to where my friends were sitting at since they arrived some time before me. The crowds were not as big for obvious reasons , but it was still a fun time. The Shannon Rovers came there and played a while, which was a nice treat. My friends and I have made this a yearly tradition when we travel to Chicago. We always get the baked goat cheese appetizer which is amazing. And of course we get the Bloody Mary bar. Found this gem while playing tourist and walking the streets of Chicago. Boy was I glad i stepped into here. Most of our drink encounters to this point were at overpriced tourist spots like the signature room. This place was hustlin' and bustin' on a Saturday afternoon. It was damn near impossible to grab a seat at the bar but thankfully we were still able to find some seating. There was a bloody mary bar, though i didn't see anybody partaking, their selection looked on point. The waitstaff was friendly, checked in on us often, and made sure to make it back to us before any glass lay empty! For the most part the bar was great because of environment they have created. Sports bar, not too divey, great mix of people, good noise level. All around goodness. In my pipe dreams of owning a bar, I could only hope to closely emulate this one. CHEERS. read more

I came here for the wings, and it does not disappoint. The wings are big and flavorful, with a multitude of flavors. The atmosphere is lively and fun. The walls are covered with TV's so you can catch whatever games is being broadcasted. The staff are friendly, and constant. You won't have problem waving one down. Certainly the place to be if you like watching sports at a bar. Plenty of TV's in sight and probably one of the top places for draft beer selection in the city. I stumbled upon this place while searching via Yelp and was pleasantly surprised and the level and quality of not only the beer selection but also the food. I tried the salsa, guacamole and chips to start and it was probably the best guac I've ever tried. Big chunky pieces of avacado. I also tried the pork sliders and they were fine as well.
