No thank you. I give a lot of grace to restaurants these days, it's tough during the pandemic. But when you're charging NY prices, the food or service has to be decent. Street corn had no flavor, tacos were basic, and guac was just mashed avocados. Our waiter was terribly rude, and made us feel unwelcome. When we asked to split the bill he got very frustrated and we just gave in. It's our hard earned money, we shouldn't be made to feel like a nuisance when we're paying high prices for your service. I had a great experience at Tio Pepe! The service was so nice, friendly, and prompt and very memorable. Our waiter was from Paraguay and very sweet. Tio Pepe is Spanish tapas but they also have a few Mexican dishes too like guacamole and quesadillas. We ordered the gambas al ajillo, albondigas, croquetas, and chorizo. The highlights were the gambas which were nice and garlicky and the chorizo was delicious. I think the chorizo was the best dish. The albondigas were good but didn't standout, and the croquetas were also just ok. I would get the gambas again and the chorizo and try other dishes upon return. Went here for Sunday brunch. Busy place, loud, many 20 and 30 year olds. Definitely will need reservations. Food: very bad. Disappointed in so many ways. I got the eggs Benedict, which came out room temp and the eggs were completely over cooked. They quickly got me a new plate with the eggs just right but the rest of the plate even cooler then the last one. The salad they put onto the plate, which gave an allure of a decent serving, was not good. The dressing was fine but otherwise very bland. Artichokes from a can and the most stale apples I've ever had. Another friend just got a salad that looked no different than the side salad except the increased price. Very disappointed. The highlight was the services and the drinks. Servers were nice and understanding. Dealt well with complaints with the food. Also they had a 90min drink special. Rarely had to wait to get refills. OMG. The good: Guac gets mashed via mortar and pestle at table side. Guac was acceptable. Only complaint was we ordered 2 orders for a table of 7 and each person only received a teaspoons worth. How come other tables had more? The company was fun, uplifting; we met new people and made new friends. I put on my best poker face for the horrible quality food. The bad: Paella lacked socarrat, flavor, none of the usual spices in paella, the arroz was yellow in color, no saffron (of course!); tasted like it was cooked in large metal pot and spooned into hot metal tray to be reheated. The camarones catalanes was advertised to be shrimp sauteed with garlic in lobster bisque for 20. For 20 dollars, the plate was size of small tapas (4 inches x 4 inches); I tasted shrimp, garlic, no lobster. The worst: The creme brulee was torched by one inch of liquor on top. The flame usually ceases in 3-4 minutes. This thing burned for 6 before I blew it out. And it tasted like bitterness afterwards. No cream, no eggs, just shitty liquor. Yech. Dessert should be the easiest item to not screw up and yet you still managed Tio Pepe. Spent an large amount for such poor quality food. At least the company was superior. Not coming back. read more

Awesome overall experience! Came on a Sat night with a 10pm reservation. Restaurant was fairly empty and the host allowed us to grab a seat by the window. Food: Had the guac and empanada appetizer. The empanada had shrimp & chorizo which was a mix that I had not had before but was very impressed. For entrees, we had the Paella with shrimp, chicken, chorizo, clams an mussels. It was really good. The white Sangria was also delicious! Location: In the village, many great small restaurants and bars close. Not far from the PATH station and E train. Decor/Ambiance: Very intimate. The big windows provide great ventilation. It was very laid back. It seemed like there was an event going on in some so of back room. Service: Amazing!!! They were very on top of everything. Tio Pepe was another result of a very unplanned date night. The only solid plan? We will go out. We will have food. It will be fun. I had my face in my phone for a solid 15 minutes while we were looking around for something cool for dinner; I'm actually a little surprised I didn't run into a person / pole / garbage can / car / traffic / the Hudson river. I'm just glad for: places that have a menu in the window, and (of course) Yelp. With these powerful tools we were able to deduce that this would be a great place to try for our after midnight dinner. I was impressed with the crowd - after 12 on a Saturday night and the restaurant was steadily busy. Unfortunately, it seemed like our friend Tio was much less expectant of the crowd than I was because I counted one (and only one) waiter. Plus a manager guy, a guacamole & chips guy, and the bartender. Needless to say, our service suffered because of this. We got water after the third time we asked for it (while we were waiting for the check,) we had to ask for chips and salsa, they got my drink wrong, and over the course of the hour and change we were there we had to flag down the waiter / owner (turned second waiter) three or four times for various things (another round, water, water, more salsa.) Now that I got that crap out of the way, the food was definitely a solid 4 stars. At this point I was still on my OMG MEXICAN FOOD IN MY MOUTH kick, so I (and we) were all about the margaritas. They were okay, nothing amazing. I believe Max S. said it best -- Paella and Sangria. I saw pitcher after pitcher flying out the kitchen, and feel a little idiotic for not opting for one for us to share. Paella - easily the best i've had. This is my 2nd experience at Tio Pepe. My first experience was here for a party 2 years ago, and I thought the food was rather bland. I really wanted to come back here to try their food a la carte. She was courteous..but her facial expression looked like she was unhappy to be there..Just an observation my friend made..loll They have a small brunch menu with about ten dishes, and a $10 for 2 hours of unlimited mimosa or bloody mary special. We didn't feel like a boozy brunch..so we just opted for ice water. Around 12:10pm, we started off with housemade guacamole made table side, from the lunch menu. I give credit where it's due. That guacamole was F'ing DELICIOUS!! And it was awesome that it was made table side..so you know it's fresh! Came with some chips on the side. Absolutely delicious! An excellent appetizer! Around 12:15pm, while we were enjoying our guacamole app, my friend ordered a Ensalada con Salmon & I had a Bistec con Huevos (medium rare) from the brunch menu. 20mins later..we had finished our first basket of chips and a waiter had brought us a 2nd basket. At 12:45pm, our entrees were finally ready. First impressions...they both looked good. The poached egg on top of the steak was perfect. However, when I cut into my steak, I found that it was not cooked medium rare as desired..but medium. Normally, I would send it back and ask for another..but due to time constraint, I didn't. The flavor on the steak was there. Just the temperature was off. Yep. I waited 25+ mins for a steak that was overcooked. NOT happy. My friend's salad...the salmon was nice and moist. Seasoned well too. The vegetables however, were soggy. There was way too much dressing. Again the flavor was there. Salmon, walnuts and dressing really paired well with the vegetables. But again, the execution wasn't good. In the end we didn't stay for dessert. Well, now I have a feel of the food here. Guacamole was clearly the star of today's brunch. But there's many restaurants with excellent guacamole. Tio Pepe won't be one of my go-to spots for brunch. read more

I went to Tio Pepe for their brunch and I was not disappointed. I ordered the Pepe's Burger and it was delicious - the meat was fresh and it had a lot of flavor. I also opted for the unlimited margaritas for an additional $12 and it was worth every penny. The drinks were flowing and the mixture for the margarita was on point because sometimes a margarita can be too tart or too sweet and neither was the case. Our waitress was outstanding she was constantly asking us if everything was okay and she was quick when we asked for another round of margaritas. As I ventured out I saw a flyer for their Tapas and Sangria tasting event so I made a reservation and came back. The Tapas were really good - presentation was excellent and the food was well prepared by Chef Javier Herrera. We sampled 3 sangrias, red, peach and blood orange. The margs are soooo good! Came here for my friends birthday brunch on a Saturday. It was super convenient to get to by a quick subway ride from penn. We had reservations so we were seated right away. The service was superb! We ordered bottomless drinks for an extra $15 and never fully finished a drink for the 2 hours we were there, huge plus in my book. They had a selection of mimosas (strawberry and orange juice), bloody Mary's, or frozen margaritas. They also had a pretty good selection of entrees. I went with the eggs Florentine with the Hollandaise sauce on the side. It was delish and the eggs were cooked to a perfect runny texture. Loved the service, loved the food, and loved the ambiance. My friend and I did Saturday brunch at Tio Pepe using a Pusld voucher. I was nervous because it stipulated that reservations are required (as they all say) however we did not have a problem getting a table. The restaurant/decor itself is really inviting and beautiful! (Definitely 'gram-worthy! Lol) We shared the Chicken and Waffles and Torta de Pollo with french fries. I was not a fan of the C&W, it was almost like sweet and sour chicken with thick cut vegetables in sauce and the waffles were chewy/overdone (as if they were cooked, got cold and then reheated for us). The sandwich and fries were much better, and something that I would order again. Our drinks were rarely ever empty and the frozen margaritas were good. DEFINITELY worth the voucher that we had purchased and used. David was an absolute gem (!!!) and our waiter Steven was awesome as well! Great experience and I will definitely be back. read more

Delicious spot for bottomless brunch. My brother and I bought a $45 bottomless deal for 2 on the Pulsd app and made Sunday reservations for 2. I arrived first and my brother was running late however the restaurant still accommodated us upon his arrival which was lovely. The food was delicious and fresh. I had the Torta de Pollo (grilled chicken sandwich with avocado and black bean spread) which was delicious. My brother opted for Steak and Eggs which he enjoyed. A friend and I came in for brunch on a Sunday at around 12:30. We had a Travelzoo deal, which included one entree each, and unlimited mimosas or bloody Marys. The place wasn't completely packed but starts filling up when we left around 2ish. For my entree, I went with the Torta de Pollo (pulled chicken, avocado, black beans and cheese sandwich served with Spanish chips). It wasn't bad. The chicken wasn't dry but it did have this weird microwaved after taste to it. My friend ordered the Bistec con Huevos (grilled sirloin steak with poached eggs and Tío Pepe potatoes). It should really have been called Bistec con Huevo because it only came with one egg and the portion was small overall. Plus, the steak was super salty. I tried one bite and was glad I didn't order that. Overall, the food is meh so if I was judging solely on that, Tio Pepe would probably get two stars. So why the 3? The bloodies were surprisingly good. Every time I order a Bloody Mary at a brunch place, it tastes weird - whether it's too much vodka or too much horseradish, something is just off. But I actually enjoyed the ones here. Might even come back for another brunch session, even without a deal (unlimited drinks is only an extra $10 on top of your entree). My favorite part about this place is the space. I enjoy being able to sit by the window and I don't find it overly crowded in here ( most of the time.) Even then though, the interior is just OK. 2/10 When you hear about nuclear reactor meltdowns, there are usually many things that have to go wrong to end up with a disaster scenario. That was my experience at Tio Pepe. A series of unfortunate events making this one of my worst NYC restaurant experiences. We were a table of 6 with a reservation and were seated at a large communal table in the front after waiting for 15 minutes. The manager offered to move us to a private table in the back and we agreed - unfortunately the moving process took another 30 minutes. When we were finally seated we ordered a pitcher of sangria which was poured into 5.5 glasses and came with a suggestion that we order another pitcher. We complied but why couldn't they just pour it equally into 6 glasses? The sangria was very sweet and light in alcohol. We ordered a number of dishes and some were delivered quickly. We had to wait for our entrees for over an hour (other tables ordered, ate, and left while we waited). The wait time to receive our food continued to drag on, and the wait staff basically left us alone throughout the evening. At one point someone wanted to order a round of shots for the table and literally couldn't find a waiter (he carried them by himself from the bar). One of our party didn't eat pork and was told the chorizo in the paella didn't contain pork (I was skeptical...). When the paella finally arrived, she asked a waiter for confirmation there was no pork and we were told it was indeed pork. At this point we were hours into the meal and didn't want to wait for another dish. You can imagine the frustration. After all of that, The food wasn't anything exciting and fell short of competing Spanish restaurants in the same price range. Management removed the paella from the bill and gave us a free pitcher sangria, which didn't make it into all 6 glasses. Sigh. read more

I am giving this place a 3, even though my experience was a 2, because they knew our experience sucked. Let's start from the beginning: Came here on Saturday night because our initial place in the West Village was booked and Open Table said Tio Pepe had tables available. When we came in, around 7:15pm, there were many tables open. The hostess asked us if we had a reservation and when we said no, she sat us in the back back room in a very far corner. Our drink and app orders were taken pretty quickly (we got a pitcher of sangria and guacamole). Once those came to us, things quickly dwindled. The back room was mainly large groups of younger clientele celebrating birthdays. The front room was definitely more reserved. Not sure if wait staff thought we were part of the larger parties... but our food took forever to arrive, and when it did (after we had to ask for it) they only brought us our sizzle fajita hit plates without any of our pitas. We then had to ask and wait for those. The food was good, but service was soo bad. We could've walked out on our bill and never been noticed, but we aren't assholes. By the end when we got our bill we were given three shots of tequila for free because they knew they sucked. Overall on different circumstances I might come back, but they have a lot of improving to do! read more

Granted it was a Tuesday night but the staff were attentive and when the chef came out briefly and asked how the food was I told him my opinion and he took it into consideration. How do I know ?
