5.0 Stars Outstanding experience and great customer service…read more Yelp brought me here. I did a search for the top auto repair shops in my area and Craftsman was well on the list. Reviews were solid. Once I realized how close I was to two of their locations, I made a mental note to check it out. I called, they were welcoming over the phone and not in a spazzy rush like some of the other shops I had been calling around to. They took their time over the phone!!! I made an appointment to get some estimates, showed up, told them my concerns, and they checked out a few things going on with my car. Again, very welcoming in person as well. I came to get an estimate for front and rear brakes replacements, possible oil change, state inspection. As I waited, I skimmed through two books the owner had written! They said I could have a copy, so kept one. The owner has the right idea and it shows. The waiting area was cozy and super chill equipped with coffee and snacks and TV. What took the service over the top was how well the gentleman took to physically show me what was going on with my car. He also took pictures. In the front office we examined the photos and he explained, and educated me about what was going on and what needed attention and why it was relevant. He made additional recommendations based on car mileage and manufacturer recommended maintenance. We discussed pricing and I agreed to get some of the work done. They gave me a Lyft ride home. Called me when it was done a few hours later. Scheduled a Lyft for me to return. Back at the auto shop, I paid and I was on my way. I felt really impressed because they explained things about my car I had never known about in the 5 years of owning it. I felt educated and walked away understanding things better. In all the 20 years I've maintained cars, no shop has ever explained things to me the way they did. I must admit, I felt the labor fees were a bit steep. I felt my wallet go ouch! However, I feel extremely safe in my vehicle because of everything I learned. I will definitely, without a doubt return for future maintenance work and I will knock out some of the other recommended maintenance items in the near future. Highly recommend. Time for a feel good great service story…read more This past Saturday I had a routine oil change at Valvoline in Alexandria. Upon leaving their facility I accepted a Lyft rider to Manassas. While cruising down I-66 the check engine light appeared on the dashboard. Upon completing the ride, I attempted to call the Alexandria Valvoline- couldn't even get a ring. Penny called, asked to speak to their manager..... nobody picked up. At this point I'm driving winding rural Virginia roads in a full blown panic. Penny then called the Fairfax location and spoke with their manager, Anna. They told me to bring the car into Fairfax ASAP. Within 15 minutes I was at the Fairfax Valvoline. Despite being the fourth car in line, Anna greeted me with the diagnostic sensor remote. After a quick read, it was the catalytic converter which trigged the check engine light. This was a first for my car. She then reset the dashboard. Upon her recommendation, I went next door to Meinecke. The manager there gave me a full blown lesson on catalytic converters and said it was quite possible the oxygen sensors 'got lazy' and gave a false read. Regardless, the current result is the probable false alarm from the dashboard and does not affect the performance of my car. If the light does reappear, the kind gentleman at Meinecke will do a more thorough analysis. Ultimately, it's great to have Penny come through in the clutch and Anna following through on a promise to take care of my car so efficiently in their shop, even though they did not initially service my car!! 5 Star Service!

During this last awful visit to the dealership, they told me I needed a new car battery and that it was "in the red zone" so I better do it soon. I decided to bring it to Rosslyn Automotive to get it checked out. Not only did they not charge me to check the battery, but they were honest and told me I didn't need to change it until it takes a bit too long to start (probably when it gets colder). They also gave me a fair price (just parts plus $10 for labor) for when I do come back to get my battery changed. In short - I'm sold, I'm switching where I take my car to next time!

She answered all my questions and let me know they had a 3:30 PM appointment available--which she kindly reserved for me (just an hour out). I arrived about 30 minutes early and let the front desk staff know there was no need to rush since I was ahead of schedule. Even so, I don't think I was there for more than 45 minutes total! Everyone I interacted with was kind and professional. They even showed me a photo of the damage to my tire and clearly explained the repair process and cost. If there had been an issue with their equipment, the employee who scheduled my appointment could have told me then instead of having me drive there first thing in the morning. When I arrived at 8:00 AM, the manager, Michael, immediately seemed dismissive and told me my appointment wasn't in the system. When I explained I was there for a wheel balance, I was first told their machine couldn't fit my truck. After I explained I only needed the wheels balanced, I was then told the alignment machine was broken--even though an alignment machine isn't used to balance wheels. The explanations kept changing, and it was hard to believe that a machine supposedly "broke" between closing at 7:00 PM and opening at 8:00 AM the next morning. It left me with the impression that they simply didn't want to perform the work and were making excuses instead of being honest. A simple phone call to cancel my appointment or a straightforward explanation would have shown respect for my time. Instead, I wasted a trip and was met with poor customer service and an unprofessional attitude. I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this location.
