I got the chicken fried steak (which tasted like rubber and looked fake). My mashed potatoes just look depressing (I could knock on them with my fork) and my veggies were colder than room temp. Disclaimer: I did not eat here but am writing this review on behalf of my father. For a hotel restaurant, perhaps you can't expect much, but my dad was drawn in by the advertisement of prime rib on the window. He ended up ordering a seafood dish with salmon, halibut, shrimp, and scallops (Maguire's Captain Plate) which sounds awesome but he reported that the fish was incredibly dry and not cooked well. He exchanged this fish dish for the prime rib which was tough but tasty, but still was not cooked well for the price (~$40). Luckily the staff were very friendly and happy to exchange his first dish, and overall the wait staff were nice. The menu is also quite big and offers options for every palette. However, for the cost of dining here, you need a little more than good service and a big menu! If you're visiting Juneau, in our opinion it's worth the 10 minute walk to dine somewhere on the pier for better ambiance, quality, and price. read more

AYCE king crab legs on every Saturday for $50 per adult is darn good of a deal for those who love king crab legs and can eat at least six (6) big and long legs at a time. Why 6 legs? Because one could buy three (3) whopping king crab legs from Costco for $30, meaning that 6 legs would be somewhat the break-even point! lol. Besides the king crab legs, they also do serve prime rib, calms/ mussels, and some sort of baked fish. Rude staff. I don't normally take my kiddos out because of their ages (4, 2, and infant) but decided to take them out for Mother's Day with my family. They were a bit restless but we were responsive and overall we were able to keep them behaved. The staff made a comment about how difficult we were for wanting the check split among our three parties. He then asked if my two year old was going to screech anymore. I had already left with the kids and had my husband there to pay our part. He decided to just pay the whole check because splitting it seemed difficult for the waitress. My sister, who was still there and livid about the comment, asked to speak to the manager. She was apparently not any help and we won't be going back. We spent over $200 to feel bad on Mother's Day. I came here for dinner and got the halibut Caesar wrap and substituted fries with with clam chowder. The best thing about my meal was the seafood. The halibut was very good but it could have been paired with more than soggy iceberg lettuce and Caesar dressing that came straight out of a bottle. If you like creamy soups you will enjoy the clam chowder... it was straight up cream. I had to douse it with some pepper. The only reason I kept eating it was for the clam pieces. Their food quality continues to be an issue. I ordered bacon wrapped scallops offered as an appetizer (8 pieces) and as an entree (10 pieces) and was dismayed to see that the eight scallops were particularly small size. At first thought, I thought they cut them up into smaller pieces but failed to inquire if in fact they did so. Not recommendable, go to Tracy's Crab Shack for a decent scallop entree. I ordered one of their 3 course meals USD 20.99 with a cup of their New England Clam Chowder which was very good. The second course chosen was their BBQ ribs which was not inspiring with their BBQ sauce leaving much to be desired. It wasn't terrible, just blah. My partner ordered a halibut, our waiter suggested sauteed over being poached, so sauteed was chosen. The halibut was overcooked, the seasonings used produced an undesirable taste, and each of us in a party of four tasted it and suggested the fish be returned. Poached was ordered, and again they overcooked it, but at least now the taste was pleasant. This establishment also failed to not overcook their fish. Not good when you serve fish in a costal city. The dessert chosen was their mixed berry cobbler which was also disappointing with frozen berries that disintegrates on my tongue. We went for a birthday date night dinner that also happens to be a holiday, so they had a limited menu. But nonetheless, it was still a great experience. It took a little while to get seated and the staff was slow, but nice. The timing and spacing of delivery of our food was a little off, but overall every course was great. The soup and salad were very fresh, seasoned, and tasty. We had the NY strip and crab stuffed salmon. Very good quality. Dessert was a deconstructed red velvet cake. We even got a great birthday discount. Parking can be a little tricky if you park under the hotel, but not impossible. Some of the menu items are a little dated, but taste is definitely there. We stayed at the attached hotel and popped in for breakfast one morning. I didn't expect much since most hotel restaurants are questionable in my book. Oh dear, never again. I only went to this place a few times before it became official I'd never return. It was empty on a weekend morning, but the service was as slow as can be. The real kicker was when they served ham on my boyfriend's Eggs Benedict (he requested no meat since he is vegetarian). The waitress was very apologetic and took it away immediately. Unfortunately, when she brought it back it was obvious the cook simply removed the meat and placed fresh unbroken eggs on top of the meat-tainted English muffins. Totally unacceptable. The waitress refunded us for his meal and apologized profusely. It's too bad that she and every other waitperson has to deal with the problems caused by the obviously careless cooks. As for the food the cooks didn't mess up, it's fairly average breakfast fare. T.K.'s is my go-to lunch place. I like it here because of the location, the scenery, the atmosphere and the friendly service. It is not always busy, and because of that they can be understaffed at times, it is hit and miss. But I have always enjoyed my experiences and the food, so I will continue to dine here. Staff was friendly enough for working on a holiday (you never know); and while the place was very busy (heck, we had 8 in our party), it was not so packed as to be uncomfortable. The pictures on Yelp look good but we left feeling, "Meh..." Hubby's halibut tacos had two tiny pieces of halibut. My blackened halibut was much smaller in comparison to the hamburger bun it came in. We were told the food was good here and we were not let down. An absolutely delicious lunch and dinner we've enjoyed so far. My son and I came to Juneau on a fishing and hiking adventure. We're staying at the hotel so it's convenient having a great place to eat on the premises. The prices are higher but it is a tourist town so I'm not surprised. I don't mind paying a little more for great food, very friendly service and an amazing veiw!! You have to try the Alaskan Raspberry wheat beer! The music the restaurant plays is relaxing too. We are Latinos ourselves, so when I heard Mexican music quietly playing in the kitchen - this tells me the chef's are enjoying their work environment. Maybe that's why the food is so good! read more

My family and I enjoyed a few nice meals at this restaurant over Labor Day weekend. I totally planned on writing them a great review, and returning to their place if I ever get back to Juneau. Unfortunately, neither of those things are going to happen. A couple of weeks after I returned home, I sat down with my credit card receipts and my Visa bill in order to balance my account. It was at that time that I saw that I was overcharged by the TK Maguire's staff twice - once for 36 cents, and once for $6.00. To be frank, I really didn't care too much about the 36 cents as it seemed likely to just be a "typo" on someone's part when taking care of my check. However, the $6.00 was more significant - and I wondered if someone gave themselves an extra tip when handling my credit card. I then called the restaurant, and after being passed to a few different staff I ended up speaking with a man who told me that he was the "manager." I explained the situation to him, and provided him with the ID numbers from my receipts. In order to resolve the situation, the gentleman told me that that he would provide me with a $6.36 gift card to the restaurant. I found this to be ridiculous given that I live 1,500 miles away! I asked him to reimburse the $6.36 to my credit card. He told me that he could not do that because it was a complicated process. I then told him that his responses to my situation were completely unsatisfactory and as I saw things, the restaurant clearly needed to just reimburse me $6.36. I asked for nothing more and nothing less. The "manager" (if that is really who he was) then told me to wait while he "checked" on something. I waited more than 10 minutes for him to come back to the phone - which he failed to do. By the time I hung up (more than 20 minutes after I first made the call), I was pretty frustrated and insulted. I then emailed the restaurant (well, the Prospector Hotel actually, as the restaurant doesn't have it's own email address - go figure) explaining the situation and asking for them to address the issue by reimbursing me the $6.36. My response? Silence. Go figure. I hope that the apparent hassle of giving me the overcharged money back was worth the potential cost of this review. If you decide to go to TK Maguire's, have a great meal....Just don't forget to bring cash! read more

This restaurant could really be a great place to eat.. if they fired all their staff and rehired. These were my issues: (FYI, i am also a waitress, at a classier restaurant, I know good customer service.) First at TK, you seat yourself. So it takes 30 mins before your server notices that you're even there. By the time our server finally decided to acknowledge us, we were greeted with eye rolls. Like they were so busy.. (My boyfriend and I were literally, LITERALLY, the only two people in the whole restaurant/bar) We decided not to order food because it took 30 minutes to get greeted and another 30-40 minutes for two simple drinks. The highlight of the night was that we didn't have to pay for our food after receiving 2 out of 4 plates of food we ordered in our group of friends that had a couple long hairs cooked into a burger, and even one in my salad.. gave them another try a month or so later and went home and had been food poisoned from the meal. Never eating there again. But being a local I know they make delicious ice cream adult beverages and mixed drinks. Hi, did the buffet "all you can eat king crab legs", they also had yummy Dungeness crab. While this in no way is a buffet at the Wynn hotel in Vegas. I found it quite satisfying and a good value for $50. If you live in Alaska, you would understand why. Everything,in Alaska runs expensive. Besides, you just can't go wrong with AYCE King crab. There was a fresh adequate salad bar, coconut shrimp, clams in a delicious broth, mussels and mashed potatoes and gravy for starch. Plus a couple items I'm forgetting. Most importantly, they do provide scissors for getting at that crab meet easier. Service was excellent, as waiters came around frequently, clearing plates, filling water glasses. My boyfriend and I have come here regularly since we moved to Juneau last year. It's the only place we've found that has consistently great service. The servers are attentive, friendly, and never make you feel like an inconvenience (a BIG deal in this town!). The food (seafood, steaks and bar food) is good and more reasonably priced than comparable places in the area. The decor is not the newest, but it's roomy and bright and looks out on the water.
