I really like this place! The restaurant has a cool vibe and would be a cool chill spot to hang out eventually. The food here is great! The chicken fried steak here is so good here! Eating that made me feel like a kid again with how nostalgic the dish is to me (southern comfort food at its finest). The batter, gravy, and steak were seasoned well. The dish is decadent but not too heavy. I didn't have a urge to hibernate after so that's kinda good, right? The burger here is also really good. I had it once to-go and it was really tasty. This place was spectacular, and we had the friendliest staff. Get the black ketchup. It's smokey and peppery. The oysters were fresh and delicious, and we had the biggest lemon with juice I've ever seen. Numerous people were walking around asking if we were doing okay, and our plates once completed were taken right away. I would highly recommend this for lunch, happy hour, or even dinner. If you like tasty seafood boils like smashin crab or redhook, this place is not it for you. Most disappointing birthday dinner I've ever had in my life. The "mild" seafood sauce that came with the seafood boil was not only not spicy AT ALL but when I asked for A side of whatever sauce they had that was the most spicy from what the menu said the waiter brought me what looked like tajin and some cocktail sauce. I was so surprised by this and a little shocked. The oysters were okay (we ordered them as an appetizer) but they were also the best thing I ate there. That says A LOT. The food was not the only majorly disappointing thing, our waiter would roll his eyes when we asked for more drinks or when we asked questions about the menu( it was our first time). When the oysters came I asked if I could get a ramekin of some Clamato or tapatio . He literally looked at me blankly for like an entire 30 seconds then rolled his eyes and said the best he could do was Tabasco. Which was fine, but why did he have to be judging about it. I feel like customers come from all races and ethnicities and establishments shouldn't go out of their way to make customers feel like they are so weird for having different cultural practices. ESPECIALLY IN TEXAS. When I asked to spit the check between my mom and sister he never came back and sent another waiter with the check to split it. And he stood over in the corner and just watched her check as out while rolling his eyes. Safe to say I won't return when I'm in Austin again, but to travel a hour away just to try the place and be let down so much, disappointment would be an understatement. This was my first visit to TLC Austin. A friend recommended this establishment to me so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately I was not able to make it to happy hour but would love to come back to give it a try. This is a quite spacious joint with a picnic yard in the front that has corn hole games and large picnic tables that are ideal for seating big parties. Inside is quite spacious with a cute little bar and TV's. As you wait in line to order food, a chef can be see shucking oysters. I ordered the Voodoo Red sandwich while my boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak. I wish I could say that I enjoyed my sandwich but the bun became a little to soggy due to the vinaigrette. The fish tasted a little fishy but I did enjoy the avocado and the overall taste of the ciabatta bun that it came on. The chicken fried steak is MASSIVE-- two people can easily share this plate. My only complaint about this dish is that the gravy was pretty bland. Overall, it was a well put together dish. The Brussel sprout/corn medley that it came with was very savory. Have to say as a seafood enthusiast I was very underwhelmed with my dining experience at TLC yesterday. So Iets start with the good: it's fast, casual and offers ample indoor and outdoor seating. Now let's go with the not so good: I ended up ordering the seafood tower which I've ordered any many seafood joints around Austin. Strike 1 was no butter or crab mallets were served which is pretty standard at most places. Strike 2 was the actual seafood was not that great as the gulf oysters were dirty and Briny almost to the point you were eating dirt. To make it worse everything else we had also did not taste or smell super fresh almost to the point I was nervous I would be sick afterwards. Strike 3 was the cost of everything for the quality you get as I could have paid the same price at Clark's or Perlas and had way better food and overall experience. Would I come back here? Probably not unless they adjust their prices or bring in better quality seafood. read more

I had been wanting to come here for a while to try their boil, but unfortunately, half of the menu was unavailable, so we decided on the charbroiled oysters, lobster mac and cheese and the seafood salad. I would recommend the lobster mac as it has chunks of lobster meat in it and it is really creamy. The romaine on the salad did not look so fresh and it was drowned in dressing; it was good, but a bit bland. The oysters were also nothing to write home about. A must is their signature margarita and don't forget to add a shot of grand marnier. I am definitely up for giving them another shot on a warmer day so I can take advantage of sitting outside and not relying on the heat lamps to keep me warm. read more

TLC is a seafood lover's dream come true! So many options. If you want to keep it simple they have sandwiches and such, or you can go all the way and get a boil which I highly recommend. I think TLC is the only restaurant in Austin with a boil on their menu, and they are doing it right. The best part is you can customize the seasoning, seafood, and dip. We had the Cajun seasoning with lobster, shrimp, and sausage and it all comes with corn and potatoes. The lobster comes out whole so you get the full experience. I had no idea how to break open a lobster but they provided a bunch of tools and I had no shame in just tearing into it. It was too tasty to care about looking like a savage. I also had oysters on the half shell and, oh my god, the Cajun charbroiled oysters! They were buttery and tangy and amazing. You will definitely get oysters at TLC. When you walk in you can see them being shucked right there, who can resist that? A word of warning, their horseradish is super fresh, which is fantastic, but when it is that fresh a little goes a long way! Lastly, you have to order the hush puppies. They are crispy and unlike any other hush puppy I've had. There was no mushy middle part. They come with a sauce that reminds me of almost a gumbo broth. You know everytime I go to the Alamo Drafthouse, I always look at TLC and think I want to try out that place. I never do because I eat food at the Drafthouse and I never get around to trying it out. Usually I have no one that wants to go with me. Luckily, I tried it out when I met up with some friends. TLC has happy hour from 3-6pm on weekdays. My friends and I were at the tail end of the happy hours. So I had $5 fried pickles, $5 hush puppies and my friend had $5 dozen oysters. I didn't care much for oysters because I just don't like oysters at all. They probably had the best oysters. My friend like their oysters. I liked their fried pickles and hush puppies and seriously these will fill you up. That is a plus. Usually when I go to Happy Hours the portions are so small that you end up ordering more. We had plans to walk over to Highball to see the 90s cover band, but needed to stuff our faces first. My best friend recommended TLC, so we tried it! I loved the super open atmosphere. Super cute. I felt like I was outside. Thankfully, we weren't because it was 40 degrees that evening. We ordered our food, and it's nice that you can set up your tab when you order. Great American bistro/seafood concept restaurant with friendly vibes and relaxing feel. Location is great and the back patio is dog friendly. Open air environment with tons of flat screen TVs and venue style dining room. I ordered the DLT which is a brisket sandwich with caramelized onions on a larger rectangle bun. Fries are an extra $3. Also added roasted oysters with a large bowl of Texas chili. The chili was heavy, deep beef and tomato tasting, rich flavored with a big dollop of sour cream. It was good but a tad salty. The oysters are too die for, super flavorful, had a fish sauce garlic taste to it. Asian flavored oysters, very good. The DLT is toasted so the edges of the bread were crispy, the brisket was tender with large pulls of the grain of the meat. It comes with a side of au jus and when you eat it together, it's 1 flat note of salt, too much salt. I tired it without the au jus and still too much salt so I ate only half. I would of preferred fresh red onions, pickles on the side, more of the creamy sauce it comes with which all helps cuts the salty notes and richness of the beef sauce already on the brisket and would add a cooling notes to the dish. Also the brisket could be chopped more finely as I pull the bread I pull the brisket but when I take another bite, less brisket is there. read more

We ducked in here on a quiet, rainy afternoon and so glad we did! We had yummy appetizers of hush puppies, amazing salads and my daughter enjoyed a healthy sandwich. I was part of a large table Saturday with a $400+ tab. We all paid, checked with the waitress and she gave us the ok. Fast forward to this Thursday and I have almost $300 in charges on my card, two of them exactly identical, to the penny. I call the manager thinking, surely he'll make this right, there's no way he could justify two identical $102.38 charges on my card. Well, not only does he think those identical charges are fine, he also accused others on my table of walking their tabs, and worse, he justified charging me for it! His solution to it? "Get their CC numbers, call me back and I'll charge them and remove the charges from their accounts" WTF? How does he think it's ok to charge me for that, I didn't sign those checks. Whats worse is I've checked with others on the table and they all had charges too. Food was decent but the way they processed payment, his inability to admit a mistake (two identical chargers? C'mon dude) and his unwillingness to make it right means we'll never go back, same for the other folks in our party. read more

I was searching for happy hours on Yelp and this place showed up as having happy hour all night Mondays, which included $5 local beer, wine, margs and bar snacks (half dozen gulf oysters, half pound mussels, hush puppies, deviled eggs, etc) - ''twas a no brainer! The space itself is beautiful. High windows and glass doors which were open leading to the connected patio with some outdoor tables and cornhole. I had a live oak Hefeweizen which was served to me with a lemon wedge, it was light and easy, exactly what I wanted. My boyfriend had the TLC marg which he quite liked. Couldn't believe that half dozen oysters were only $5! They were fresh and delicious. Be warned the horseradish is VERY strong. We also had a half pound of shrimp with Cajun seasoning and lemon garlic butter. The shrimp was cooked a little differently than the seafood boils I've been to - it was more of a dry rub on the shrimp with the sauce for dipping rather than actually being cooked in the sauce. I've been wanting to try this place since it has outdoor seating and looks pretty chill. I was here for their First day of 2022 pajama brunch. They gave out mimosas and coffee. Check in is confusing, there's a table in the front, not your typical host stand. But we didn't have to wait long and some folks did come dressed in their pj's. We ordered a seafood boil and you select your own seafood via the QR code so it's nice you can take your time deciding how much and what to order. I got the snow crab legs, clams, shrimp, mussels, sausage. Comes with potatoes and corn, both of which were perfectly cooked. The sauce was good, a habanero honey. We ordered french fries which were crispy and soft and hot on the inside. We also got the french toast bread pudding, had to take that to go, it was too much food. That was so yummy! I really liked my bloody mary which had shrimp, pickled okra, bacon and an olive. I did not get the shot of beer that my boyfriend got, but he did not get the slice of bacon. LOL. Bacon over beer anytime. The staff seemed chill, we were attended to, the manager came around to check in. This place is right in the middle of a great complex, next to lick and the movie theaters! It's so big and has so much window space so it feels very open. Their menus have a lot of unique starters, sandwiches, oysters and more! The lobsters are a bit expensive, but their sandwiches are decently priced and all look very good. Came here for the second time and unfortunately was not impressed again. I ordered their hush puppies and a cider as they were on special for happy hour. My friend ordered a virgin margarita, mussles, and French fries. Honestly the best part of our meal were the fries, which is so sad for a Seafood spot. I had to send back the hush puppies as they were a little over done and just had no flavor. The sauce was just not good as well. It was supposed to enhance the flavor of the hush puppies, but it did the opposite by making it taste even worse. The deviled eggs that replaced them were not any better and severely needed some spice. I tried one of the mussles and again it had no flavor and was super slimy. Gave them three stars because of the local selections, particularly the Austin Eastciders blood orange cider--soo good and just $5 at happy hour. Update: Their customer service is great! Geoff was very nice and reached out to me about the lobster. I definitely just had a rare stroke of bad luck with the lobster, it seems like they have good fresh seafood 99% of the time. TLC refunded me for the lobster which was really nice :) I did a custom seafood boil. The shrimp, potatoes, and corn were good. Not great, but good. I would've liked more flavor, but the shrimp were big and good quality! Crab was pretty good. The lobster I got was rotten or something though. The one bite I took I spit out because it tasted like saltwater and smelled rotten, and the texture of the meat was off. I looked inside the lobster and it was green, so I think I got a bad lobster. That was pretty disappointing considering how expensive it was. read more

Located in the South Lamar complex with a variety of eateries, TLC stands out for its lovely space with indoor spacious picnic tables and a nice outdoor patio area. The service is quite kind and menu serves up all the Southern fare you could ask for (to the point I was looking up what some dishes were). Menu categories included "The Boil", "For the Table", "Texas Favorites" and "Bowls and Greens." Ideally this is a great place to come with groups as many of the dishes seem to be meant for sharing and sizes are generous. We split Charbroiled Oysters, which were flavorful and delicious served with a selection of hot sauce, Andouile and Cheddar Hushpuppies, and the Caesar Salad. All was filled with flavor and delicious. For the more adventurous, the Boils, Chicken Fried Steak, and Redfish Crab, all looked highly intriguing. Good southern menu, tasty cocktails on tap, and fun outdoor seating. Very family friendly which is nice. First off: EVERYTHING IS VERY SPICY. I got a shrimp sandwich for $12 and fries and a margarita, and every single thing was very very spicy. I'm a born and bred Texan and can do a little spice, and my Cajun husband can too, but everything was a little over the top. Second: took almost 30 minutes to get my sando. Woof. Third: it's expensive for what you get. I paid a total of $18 for a shrimp sandwich and an extra $3 for fries, and I mayyyybe got a fistful of fries. Everyone laughed when they brought the tray to the table. Fourth: there was a piece of sharp plastic in our fries, and we tried to tell someone but they wouldn't talk to us since they were so busy. I also appreciated the sauces (both on the side and with the boil), but it wasn't that impressive compared to other seafood places even just in the Austin area.
