Pretty good experience as a first timer here. I will definitely be back to try other salads, burritos, quesadillas, etc. There's so many options to choose! The ambiance is pretty spot on and hip. Overall pretty clean, spacious, and very nice succulent plants all over the restaurant. First, you order your food and then they'll deliver your food to your table. Don't forget to check in on Yelp and get free chips and salsa! My order came out within the next 2-3 minutes so I was pretty satisfied with the overall customer service. I ordered the taco salad (chef recommended). It was worth $12 because the bowl was a good amount of size. I just wish they put more dressing in the salad. I ended up adding the free salsa I received from my Yelp check-in to my salad. The salad itself was healthy and yummy. Lots of fresh greens, meat, and great texture. Can't wait to go back! read more

If you wanna get sick... Eat here! You're not gonna believe what you're about to read... First off I love to write positive reviews, but when something is so negative it needs to be addressed... After I ordered my food from the counter, I walked over to the other end where you wait for your food to be ready for pick up. There was a young girl working there, and she was standing in front of the counter, where all the food comes out and what separates her from the kitchen is glass. Almost think like chipotle walking down the line. And she has a rag and a bottle of glass cleaner in her hands. she started to clean the glass in front of her, which separates her from the cooks and the food, but instead of spraying it first onto the rag, then wiping the glass. She just started spraying randomly all over the glass, where the fumes and the spray is going everywhere. She then gets done wiping the glass. She puts the dirty rag and the spray bottle of glass cleaner on the counter, and then when the food comes out, she places it down on that same counter . I see my food order come out. It is literally on top of the glass spray bottle right next to it. Any little drip out of the glass bottle could've come out into my food. She calls my name and I go over to her to collect my food. And I said ...you have to be very careful. You cannot spray glass cleaner like that from the bottle all over that glass partition plus you have it sitting next to my food. I said that's a health hazard. She says ... WELL I was cleaning the glass! I said you can be cited because it's going all over the place and that's a health code, violation. She gives me a dirty look and she says... Well, do you want your food or not! WHAT! Where is management? I cannot believe what I was seeing. She should have a food handlers card and if she has one, it looks like she must've cheated on the test because it's right there in the manual! All she had to say was... I'm so sorry. Let me fix that for you, etc.. I absolutely will never be coming back to this place. read more

Oh Tocaya, how I love you so... There's nothing quite like their Baja shrimp tacos -- I literally dream about them! It is a little pricey for what you're getting, but those shrimp tacos are sooo worth it! The 2 tacos and a side combo is great -- wish there was an option for 3 tacos though. Their bowls are great bang for your buck (the carne asada one definitely hits the spot, and they cook it to perfection) but I find the bowls a little too salty. Parking is fairly easy with the lot in the back. Friday nights can be tricky since the parking fills up quick. Most of the staff are super friendly and helpful, and the food turnaround is fairly quick. Whether you're eating in or getting takeout, you can't really go wrong here! read more

First time eating here and I'm sorry to report it was the smallest burrito I've ever had. $22 + tip for a burrito and a cider, and chips are $3.50 extra, so luckily I passed on those. Not much chicken in the burrito and was hungry an hour later. Friends ordered 3 tacos, which were also very small at $6 per pop. I get it expenses are high in LA, but you order at the counter and they deliver the food, so there's not much of a wait staff. They also didn't provide any napkins or utensils when the food was delivered. Won't be back, as there are way better options in the area. I've unfortunately left Tocaya unsatisfied twice, both times with the quality of their steeply priced bowls. I won't mind paying a few extra dollars for a meal if it's prepared well, but the first time I tried the Keto bowl I couldn't even take 2 bites without immediate heartburn from the spice level of the cauliflower rice and shredded chicken. Second time, went for something more mild with the black bean quinoa bowl + citrus chicken. Avocado was hard and chicken tasted like they use the citrus to mask flavor of poor tasting chicken. But at least I was able to eat more than half unlike the keto bowl. Guac? More like 2 sad scoops of day old avocado mush, lacking any fresh flavor. I won't be spending $50 for 2 here again. Neighboring restaurants and cafes are too good for that. You get MUCH more for your money elsewhere. read more

Knowing this neighborhood as well as I do, I was interested to finally try out the replacement for Mo's, and their once famous 'Burger Bar' (a beacon for all locals). This spot was also home to the original IHop, which opened in 1958. Well that history is gone and now it's Tocaya's turn to attempt to create a history of their own. Only time will tell. But as it sits today, Tocaya has a nice, new vibe which is clean, relaxing and efficient. The room is designed to both, get you in-and-out as quickly as possible, or stay for as long as you want. It's a comfortable space. We started off with the Burrito Mexicano (Diablo Chicken, Queso Mnchego) and the Barrio (Achiote Chicken, Jalapeno Jack), chips & Salso and the Street Corn En Fuego. Everything is fresh and tastes clean (if that makes sense). No complaints. Tocaya offers counter service, where you place your order and they bring the food to you. If you want table side service, you need to go somewhere else. It didn't take long to get our food, once we placed our order. All said, history will decide whether or not Tocaya is a nice addition to the neighborhood. Until then, I enjoyed it and will be back. read more

Very disappointed by what Tocaya claims to be a fajita del rey four pack! This is a $40 meal. Photos online are incredibly deceiving. The containers are tiny and half filled. The side salsa and cheese are also miniature which look massive in the photos. And no guac to be found in our bag. If we didn't supplement this meal with chips, tortillas and salad- this wouldn't have cut it for even just my boyfriend and I. If we actually were trying to feed four people, no way! False advertising. Unfortunate because food is tasty but this was a joke. I am so happy they opened this restaurant close to work/home. If you're looking for delicious and fresh food in an insanely cute spot, go to Tocaya Organica. Specifically this location in Toluca Lake. Street parking can be tough yes, if you go during during lunch. But I've gone for dinner numerous times and have easily found parking close by. The neighborhood is super cute so parking far isn't too bad either. I've gotten the fajita del rey bowl, street corn en fuego bowl, and the tostada salad. All of which we amazing. Tasty is the best word I can use. Well- seasoned for sure. I also want to touch on their friendly staff. One of the last times I went, it was pretty busy and sorta loud with everyone sitting inside. The nice girl at the register took my order and even repeated it to me but for some reason my bowl was missed and I didn't notice I wasn't charged for it until I was already at my table and looked at the receipt. But when I mentioned it to the server who brought out The rest of our order, it didn't take him but half a second to tell me no worries and turn around to fire up the bowl I had ordered. I ordered different things each time, all vegan options, and have never been unsatisfied! Their portions are kinda small...which i think is unfair for the price. They are very stingy with the guac but i know that comes from higher up...at least i hope so cause...why so small?!? I did get my order wrong once for pick up but it wasn't too big of a deal. The Fajitas Del Rey (no relation to Lana) was bereft of black bean. (Try to imagine that. You can't can you? I mean can you?). So I was offered a refund or a side. I chose the side. A sweet, well tied, bridled and bundled tamale: it rocked! And what's with the assortment of plastic plants? Organics, environmentalism, plastic plants: anyone? Why not get real plants? Come on. Come on! I put all six agua frescas in the same glass: it tasted like air freshener. Something tasted artificial. You don't have an artificially flavored agua fresca, right? We always love to try new places, of course leary of trendy or special places, however, this place was great. Upon first entering, the ambience was bright, and warm and airy. Very spacious, and comfortable seating. Staff was semi friendly and somewhat attentive, however to get their attention for to go bags was a bit difficult. The menu was laid out well enough, clean and straightforward. The drink choices were good, but don't expect your normal soda or even water. They could have better access to tap water. However, the margaritas were served with cute flowered garnish. I got the prickly pear, and it was tasty and fresh, but sadly a small serving for the price. My husband's iced tea selections, self served in a nice glass mug, were actually very unique flavors and very fresh. Good for the price. The food menu is setup in a "start here", then select your "protein " either vegan, vegetarian or meatasaurus. Then select your sides, and finally a dessert. The burritos and fajita options are pretty much the same. When the various foods came, they were "elf sized" portions, but not too horribly bad. The flavors were amazing hence the higher stars. However, the bean and rice to meat ratio was disappointing. For the price, they could "beef-up" the meat or even alternative meat portion. All in all, you are paying for the newness and location. Don't expect to get stuffed unless you've had bariatric surgery and your stomach is the size of a walnut. However, great flavors may soften the blow to your wallet/purse. read more

A tad on the pricey side ($24) for 2 burritos but much cheaper than trying to order pickup via Postmates ($33 total for same order). I'll be going back to try more.
