My family and I sat at the hibachi table on father's day. The plates and table we got had grease sprayed all over them, from what I can assume was the last "show dinner" they did. My husband ordered the vegetable hibachi and it was a lot of food. My kids split the kids steak, and I feel like they got short ended on the amount of food the received.they always got served last, and it's like they didn't portion it out right. Their steak was over done and super chewy! I just.got a side of starchy vegetables and they were swimming in grese!! If we ever go back I won't get the hibachi again. read more

Okay I need to put my stamp of approval on this place. We had a party of 20 last night (on Mother's Day) for a birthday and their hibachi grills are definitely accommodating. There was no wait (we called a day ahead). Also, You had a good view of everyone and the 2 chefs cooking on each grill from any spot. Food: BEST CLEAR SOUP EVER! It's slightly on the spicy side but very flavorful. I ordered the filet and scallop hibachi and my steak (med rare) was perfectly done. The scallops were on small side but still tasty more so when dipped in the provided sauce. As for the sushi, my friend ordered a couple of rolls and they brought out a plate the size of a turkey platter! Way more then he expected and he seemed to enjoy the rolls.. Nothing to write home about there. Drinks: The cold bottle of Haiku sake was good and reasonably priced. I ordered the Small house sake cold and they added pineapple for me which was lovely. The accommodation: I told the waitress at the beginning we had a birthday boy and a drummer ended our meal with a complimentary sundae and a beat to sing along to. :D read more

"Hibachi, sushi, squid, negimaki and a friendly staff". As soon as I walked in the door, I was treated with absolute kindness from the host with "how can I help you, sweetheart"? I arrived just before the lunch crowd and sat in the far corner, so I can eat and work some! The waitress was very friendly and was extremely patient with me. Even though I was hungry, I was still indecisive over what I wanted to eat! I was in the mood for a low-carb meal and saw squid on the menu! Then, I saw Beef Negimaki, which was scallions rolled in thin slices of beef and I knew I had to have it! The Beef Negimaki came first, followed by the iron skillet of squid that arrived to my table sizzling!! This was a meal to go fork-less and chime in with the chopsticks instead! So, I had to calm my starving belly and dig in! The Beef Negimaki was pretty tasty... I love beef, scallions & teriyaki, so it was a perfect combination! Once the sizzling from the iron skillet of squid calmed down, I picked up a slice and enjoyed it very much! My issue with squid is, if overcooked it could be rubbery... not that case with this at all! So, I was in love with my lunch dishes! I definitely did not have carb-load of food, but more of a protein punch! The atmosphere was lovely here... a little dim, but if you like it for a more intimate feel, it is perfect! I am a sushi fanatic. Ever since Kamado's on Bennington unexpectedly closed their doors....I've been adventuring around to other sushi restaurants in Baton Rouge. I visited Tokyo Cafe once before in 2009 (I think), and I vowed never to look back. Sushi wasn't fresh, the drink choices were limited and there wasn't variety on their menu. Fast forward to 2015, my friend suggested I meet him for sushi dinner. I wasn't expecting much due to my previous experience, but I "happily" obliged. We had the fried calamari for an appetizer; which was disappointing. It was very greasy and the tempura didn't have the crunch factor. He orders the Salmon Avocado Roll and the Spicy Girl Roll. I orders the Crunchy Roll and Play Boy Roll. Maybe I'm being a bit biased, but I LOVED my choices. Lol Play Boy Roll was salmon, spicy tuna, avocado and topped with tobiko (either red or green fish eggs.) Best part: it was a "no rice" roll. So for those that are looking for carb-friendly options, this is a must try! We opted out of ordering a dessert because we were full, but I would definitely come back again. read more

Today was the second time in two recent visits I had to request a new plate because the ones sitting around the grill were still dirty. The silverware is dirty sometimes as well. The staff isn't too bad. The place is just filthy, which makes for a horrible experience. Also, the hibachi chef I had today did not fully cook our chicken and shrimp. I never leave bad reviews, but was thoroughly disappointed and dissatisfied with my experience today. read more

Walking in I was a little disappointed because not a single person was there to greet us. We had a wait a bit for the hostess to see us and seat us. We sat at the bar since you get free miso with your dinner. Hands down BEST miso I have ever had. Super silky and perfect temperature! Our waiter was.... Odd. Nice just a little strange. I started with the volcano roll thinking I would order more as my hunger levels changed. It was good but not truly impressive. The rolls were so large it had to be eaten in several bites, not my favorite way to eat sushi. I ended the night with that single order. My fiancé and I started going to Tokyo Cafe biweekly last year. Our favorite server was Megan and she was the best server they had! Tonight we went and had an AWFUL experience. Our waiter was not attentive and never brought us refills. He messed up everyone's orders at the table to the point that the chef had an attitude preparing the meals. And he charged us TWICE the amount of our ticket. And on top of all of that, the restaurant smelled extremely sour to the point that I had to run outside to get fresh air. When we brought the ticket and service issue to management's attention, all they said was "well it's fixed now so". We will never return. read more

This is my favorite place to go when Im craving miso soup and sushi. I am not a raw sushi fan, so the shrimp avocado roll add cream cheese is my go to. I also enjoy the gyoza and shrimp nigiri. The atmosphere was OK, but the seats in the waiting area were worn (the padding was gone and you felt the springs). Our chef was lifeless, no sense of humor, and completely unsanitary. The food was underseasoned and very bland. We had our drinks filled only once although they did ask again when they were delivering the check. We did not take our leftovers and we left a comment on the receipt. For three people, we had an $80 check and it wasn't worth $20. The only redeaming quality was that they said there would be a 15 minute wait and it was less then 10. The food and chef came out very promptly after the order was taken. A member of our group has a severe gluten allergy. We informed our server and she ordered spring rolls. These were not traditional spring rolls with rice paper. They had the same wrapping as egg rolls which she could not have. We told the server and she said I'm sorry and walked off. We were left with the spring rolls which we did not eat. For her meal she ordered a crab salad. This was brought out to us covered in tempera which she cannot have. The server did not come back until everyone was finished eating so she was forced to scrape off all the outside and eat the inside, wasting over half of the food. We informed the server when she finally returned and she replied "I guess I need to look up gluten allergies." She returned with our checks and charged us for what was not even eaten and told us that if we did not want to be charged we should have returned it to the kitchen immediately. The rolls were still on the table with all the dirty dishes she never took. We asked for a manager and were told the owners were not there today. We were also automatically charged tip because we were a party of 7. We will not be returning and urge you to steer clear of this establishment. They do not care about their customers. & we ordered hibachi- subpar and boring chef. Go around the corner to Ichiban instead. read more

We've visited this place several times even though the service has been mediocre on most occasions. However, we couldn't believe the way we were treated tonight. I've only seen worse attitudes from employees on television. The "hostess" was an utter disgrace with the worst attitude I have ever encountered. Once I finally decided to take my family away from this dump that failed a health inspection a couple of years ago, one of the employees understood our frustration by stating that the manager and hostesses are so rude and unprofessional. Beware of this place. You might catch them on the wrong day; and that'll be the day they catch the wrong patron! read more

We ALWAYS enjoy the crazy dog roll, and tonite we also tried the lion king jumbo roll, rock and roll, kane naruto roll, baked salmon appetizer, and the gyoza dumplings. The sushi rolls were all great, the dumplings were good, the baked salmon was alright but I've had better. I know half the restaurant is set aside for hibachi, but for some reason, I never tried it. Must be because I was so focused on getting more sushi into my mouth. Really, very good stuff, if more than a touch 'American-style'; this is not traditional sushi at all. Try the Crazy Dog, Yummy, Fiesta, Flying Fish, Moon and Cowboy rolls! Tokyo offers both hibachi tables and sushi tables. You can also opt to sit at the sushi bar. I've been here a few times and it's pretty consistent. Make a reservation to come to hibachi at dinner, but their lunch hibachi is a steal! However, they don't offer the special on Sundays. The sushi rolls are large! A lot of food for what you pay. However, they are pretty standard rolls. No eclectic, wild stuff. read more
