This place REALLY disappointed me to be quite honest. I am in the service industry and have been for almost 20 years, and I know how helpful Yelp can be but at the same time, I also want to note that I understand that some people that write reviews just to complain, so I really don't write reviews unless it's REALLY BAD. My experience was that bad... It was my nephews 16th birthday celebration and we had a reservation AT THAT For 6pm. Our hibachi chef NEVER came out and we waited there until 7:30 before we decided to get up and leave. Look, I understand if a place is short staffed, running behind, I GET THAT, but PLEASE just communicate that! It took my sister in law going up there to find out what was going on. Just very poor communication And very disappointing because I hadn't been to this place since I was a kid when I lived here in Rowlett. I would've understood if we hadn't made a reservation and we were just a walk-in, but WE HAD A RESERVATION and they called to confirm it and it was confirmed! I'm a VERY patient and understanding person so it took me a lot to write this and I'm honestly sorry to the restaurant that I did have to wrote it, but I did have to let other people know in hopes the same thing won't happen to another family. read more

Our server Brian was amazing but that is all I can say about our experience. Brian was knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive to us. However the food is a different story and this is where things started going wrong. We ordered a couple of rolls off the happy hour menu that were decent. Then we ordered the Smoked Salmon roll which was super fishy tasting and smelled way more fishy than it should have. We only ate one piece of the roll and nicely brought our concerns up to our server. He was apologetic and took the roll away. We were seated inside the sushi bar area and as we were about to leave a sushi chef came out of the back screaming for our server. Once our server came into the area the he started screaming at the server about there is nothing wrong with his sushi and he tasted it himself and he doesn't care about anyone's opinion except for his. He asked our server what table it was and our server tried to not make it a big deal since we were still seated right there. The chef looks our way and yells at us that he doesn't care about our opinion and only his matters and there is nothing wrong with his sushi. Needless to say this ruined our dinner. We apologized to our server stating; we were so embarrassed for him. Needless to say we do not recommend this place and will never be back. This location used to be the original Kyoto in Rowlett. We went for a birthday party and they do a great job celebrating birthdays. Our chef was funny and very good. Stopped in for a early dinner last week. Atmosphere is relaxing around the Sushi Bar. They have Hibachi as well. Lots is space to eat. I wanted some sushi. I ordered off the early bird menu which was $4-$6 for special rolls. I got Tempra, California and Salmon roll. Hubby wanted some chicken and shrimp. He got rice along with extra veggies too. We had plenty to eat along with side salads too. Our waitress was Brooklyn. She was very attentive and friendly. We eat hibachi and sushi here a lot. On weekends be ready to wait 15-30 mins. It was an okay experience. The cook was honestly the highlight of the encounter. He was funny and very much so entertaining and very personable. However, and this is just me (my group did not feel the same way), I felt the food was a bit salty. Windows blinds where shut, but lighting was more than enough inside the area we were sitting. I will say that they directed us directly to the Hibachi section, without asking if we wanted to be seated in the sushi bar sector. Price range is pretty much what I expected. Above $100 for a party of three. We also had to wait a pretty long to get the appetizers, not sure what that was about. But, it did seem they were a bit short staffed. Would I be back... that's a hard one. Maybe to try the sushi bar, but as for the hibachi, on a first of the top of my head location, I don't think so. But! That doesn't mean that cannot change. They do have a nice view from the outside overlooking the water. I personally like these type of locations, which is honestly why I found it a bit bizarre the blinds where closed. read more

The sushi did not come with basics like ginger and wasabi nor soy sauce on the side, we had to ask for them. My sister never received her food. To also make matters worse, it took over an hour before we could order our food as our waitress was always in a rush and scurrying off before we could place it. Also, the hibachi "show" was boring. I had went with my family here for my cousins birthday and I understand how a table can be too much for 1-2 servers but that's why you have a notepad...our server kept forgetting a lot of stuff that we ordered from the kitchen because she was using her trusty memory I guess. One of our cooks burnt someone's meal but he replaced it with a dish from the kitchen which he was so kind of him. When it came to splitting the checks on our side of the table the server had no clue on what she was doing, we kept telling here we were splitting our side 3 ways and she ended up charging all the checks on one card . THE WORST PART : I had ordered shrimp tempura from the kitchen, an hour later I still didn't get my food only the sides because our hibachi chef had made it right. Well she starts bringing everybody to go plates and I'm sitting here like I never got my food? She asked me what did I get and when I told her I could tell by her face that she didn't put it in so she was trying to put the order in for me to take it home and I ran after her and told her to not charge me for the shrimp tempura and she can keep it because I'm not paying 15-20 dollars on a meal I didn't even get to eat during the WHOLE dinner if I wanted take out I would've just not ate and got McDonald's. She kept insisting that she already told the chefs to make it and I can just wait for it but I firmly said "no if it's not already done I don't want it I'm not paying for it". this place use to be great, food is still good but the atmosphere has changed. I don't know if they are under new management or something, but the atmosphere was not the same. The place use to have tables cheering and being involved in the experience and that is no more. there was no throwing of food and trying to catch it in your mouth, they even did away with the chef squirting saki in your mouth. still like the place but the experience has definitely changed. it might be time to try other places for hibachi. Which is disappointing because we have been coming here since they opened under the current name and before they could even sell alcohol and you could bring in your own. read more
