In my opinion I do not think this place is comparable to Cultured Pearl in terms of freshness. It may be slightly better in price, but I would not give up fresh fish to save a dollar or two. You may end up going home sick. I ordered the Chirashi, 2 pieces of Uni, and 2 pieces of Sweet Shrimp. The Chirashi came with 20 pieces over a bed of rice. As I mentioned many times before, with sushi, there's really only two things to it. The rice and the fish. The rice was dry and hard and not particularly flavor well as it should. When you pick it up with chopsticks, it came tumbling down off of them. There's really only two reasons for this, either it's leftover rice, or they made it incorrectly. The fish was sliced VERY thin, that it was almost translucent. At $23, you would expect more... A LOT more or at the very least, a better cut. The 2 pieces of Uni was horrible. Instead of a nice bright orange, we were looking more at a dark brown. The Sweet Shrimp was not cleaned well either. It actually had a filmy taste and the Tempura Shrimp Head (which I normally love eating) still has it's guts in it. I can be adventurous in my food, but not THAT adventurous. Tokyo Steakhouse in my opinion was meh... The service from the waiter is the only reason why i bumped it to three stars. Me and my family had steak and shrimp habachi grill, and Spider Makki. The salad that came with the steak and shrimp was over drenched with dressing. The soup was a little salty. The steak and shrimp were cooked right to how we wanted it, but it lacked flavor. Spider Makki was just meh as well... kinda bland. I've had better Japanese cuisine. Service is GREAT, but they need to work on hiring better chefs/cooks/flavor GODs. read more

I'm not a sushi connoisseur, but I've had it over 100 times and I know good from bad. I ordered The House Dragon to go, since I only live about four miles away and wasn't super-hungry. The order was ready when I walked in the door and the To-Go packaging was complete with all I needed. I really enjoyed it. I love Tokyo Steakhouse for the hibachi grill, where the awesome chefs cook the meal perfectly right in front of you, while putting on a show! It's entertaining and a lot of fun. I haven't had the sushi, but I've heard that it's good...I'm just not a big fan. My favorite meal at the hibachi is the steak and chicken combo with fried rice & veggies. The meals also come with a salad and a Japanese broth, which are both excellent. Highly recommended...especially for a large group of people and special occasions. UPDATE: This review was done before I was diagnosed with celiac disease, and since then, I called Tokyo Steakhouse to see if the soy sauces they used for the hibachi grill are gluten free. They are not...so I'm out of luck on my favorite thing about the restaurant. I hope the someday, they can reverse this and use gluten free sauces on the grill, but that is highly doubtful. read more

First time dining here to celebrate my MIL's bday and they did not disappoint! Our hibachi chef was superb and even made a little Bday tribute for her. Most of us had hibachi (seafood, chicken, sukiyaki and steak) and we can't say anything bad about it. One thing my husband and I truly enjoy was the Dragon Roll - it was fried + cream cheese + no shrimp (shrimp allergies!) perfect! Let me start this review by saying I am a local. I have been going here since 2009. Today was the last straw I will never walk through that door ever again. We arrived at 5pm and we were seated by 5:15. My wife and I ordered our food. Sushi rolls, drinks and our filet mignon meals as soon as the waiter came to our table. At 540 we received our sushi which tasted like it was in a refrigerator overnight. At 6 pm we received our salads and soups that accompany our meal. At 630 we received our main course. Our filet was cold. I informed our server that it was cold. He insisted he would have the kitchen remake our food. At 645 we received our microwaved filets. I could obviously tell it was microwaved by the temperature of the plate and the fact that the medium rare filet we ordered was now well done. I saw a blonde haired woman which was obviously a untrained manager. I then addressed the problems we have faced with our meal. She informed us that the kitchen staff has been "messing up" and that they are short staffed. I am aware that after COVID restaurants have been struggling maintaining staff but it is completely unacceptable to serve a customer a 32$ a plate microwaved filet mignon. I paid for the drinks we had and the mediocre sushi we ate only because we were hungry. I do not blame the server we had. Obviously he was tasked with too much responsibility while the manager danced around the main lobby and ridiculing her staff when presented with a issue. They always aim to please and they never ever fail. The staff is always so friendly and helpful and the habachi cooks always put on an amazing show. I still love watching them cook at 30. Sighhh. When I returned home to Sussex County I certainly knew not to expect high class ethnic cuisine including sushi. Apparently, though, my standards are still just a bit too high. Couple of helpful hints I wish I'd known beforehand: THEY CHARGE YOU $0.50 for extra Wasabi even though they provide less than a tablespoon's worth for a whole roll. Weirdly there is no outdoor seating, even in our gorgeous area, but what they do have at least at the moment is a pretty obvious set of roof leaks right at the bar--you may have to, as I did, ask your Server to bring your food around the other side to avoid any contamination. But thinking about it, you may just want to keep driving instead. read more

I've been going here about once a year since they opened and have always enjoyed the experience of hibachi chefs. The food is wonderful and the routine is entertaining. For the first time my family of 4 went to just get sushi in their restaurant area and it did not disappoint. Every selection was wonderful and we even ordered more when we were done with the first 6 rolls. The prices are reasonable and in line with all the other sushi restaurants in the area. The only draw back were the small tables and booths. I'm only 6 foot tall and just barely fit into a booth. A really big person will have some trouble. We will go back and probably more for the sushi than for the hibachi. read more

Prepare to wait a long time for your server even when noone is in the restaurant. Ours, Tim, had to be asked for waters then he would bring 1 instead of 3. Then when empty wouldn't offer to refill. Then when asked for waters for everyone (we also had tea) he would bring 2 instead of 3 leaving 1 still empty. When asked for another after sitting for a long period trying to down the salty food for 10 minutes before coming around again he would reply with a "yes sir" like it was a request from above. The place is disorganized and the staff, which there was a lot, seems to be like to stand around and when you walk past them leaving they don't thank you for coming. If you want an entertaining show and a great meal, Tokyo Steakhouse is the place for you. It is family friendly and the staff are amazing. The meals are a bit pricey but this place is so worth it. This was a terrible experience that ended with both of us getting sick from the food. Stay away. The drinks are over priced watered down and rude service from the staff. When we where brought to the table, there was half eaten chicken wings all over the floor, pieces of shrimp, vegetables, and other food. We commented to the satires could we move to another table she said NO awe had to sit there. The chef was rude, didn't look like he wanted to be there. He dropped food in peoples plates, and actually dropped food on the counter picked it up and placed it on someone's plate. Are you kidding? Gross! We called the next day to express our concerns and we where told they can't do anything, and we should go to a doctor. We asked repeatedly to have our check refunded for the bad experience, and they refused. That's unfortunate. It was my first time eating there and it was horrible!!!! The food was too salty and the portions were small and not worth the money. Also the drinks were way too expensive. Everything taste the same. It's all mixed on the same grill. Depending on your cook it could be a fun time but generally they just go through the motions. WARNING - STAY AWAY ! This is the most poorly managed restaurant I have ever had the misfortune of choosing in my life. We (3 couples) ordered take out sushi and then drove 30 mins. to pick it up (and 30 min back home). When we arrived at the restaurant, unbeknown to us, we were given the wrong order. We were handed bags and told "here is your order". We paid by credit card and left. Obviously, we didn't go through the bags in the middle of a busy foyer to determine that everything was there, we trusted that the restaurant knew what they were doing (first mistake ...). When we arrived home and saw that we were given the wrong order, we immediately called the restaurant to let them know of their mistake. The manager actually had to audacity to start yelling at US and blamed us for taking the wrong order and advised us that if we wanted to return the order to the restaurant (another 30 min there, and 30 min. back home ...), they would make up our original order for us when we got there. After a lengthy back and forth on the telephone (with the manager actually continuing to yell at us ...), it was obvious the only way we were going to settle this was to go back to the restaurant. When we arrived back at the restaurant, they actually took back the erroneous order (after we had already brought it to our home - wonder who they served that to ... talk about COVID safety ...). All we wanted was to have our credit card account credited for the amount previously charged. We did not order anything further out of fear that we may end up with additional "ingredients" in our order out of retaliation. Didn't trust them even a little bit at that point. Maybe I'm just used to a different level of service, but the manager was actually yelling at us with never even an apology; never an acknowlegement that they were the ones blaming a customer for their mistake. First, we hardly saw the waiter when we needed something. When he finally came back to collect the dishes, he spilled a full bowl of hot soup down my sister's back. My sister found out later, the waiter never even notified his manager of the spilled soup. However, we did see him more after this. When it came time for dessert, the waiter was only concerned with my sisters order, forgetting about the rest of the table and had to be requested by another Server to come back. Second, the cook was sloppy, throwing rice everywhere and was more focused on something away from the grill, than the grill itself; even leaving at one point while the food was still cooking. There was minimal showmanship, and when it he done, he quickly cleaned the grill then left. It was almost as if he was trying to get out of the area as soon as he could. Third, when it came time for dessert, we ordered the cheese cake, fried ice cream, and the volcano cake. The cheese cake tastes as if it was in the refrigerator too long and the fried ice cream tastes freezer burned, and could not be covered up by the fried tempora. And finally, with my sister getting hot soup spilled on her, she decide to notify the manager herself. The manager was extremely gracious, and apologetic for the incident, offering to comp her meal. However, my sister would be noticed later by the waiter, the manager would only comp a meal, or a dessert (for someone who almost got scolded with hot soup). She opted for the, no brainer, comped meal due to the $20 difference. This was by far, the worst dining experience ever, to a restaurant my mother planned for weeks, of getting the family together, and to go to. read more

The hibachi steak, shrimp, lobster, chicken, scallops had by our party of 6, was delicious. The salad dressing was WAY to heavy. Definitely would go again. However, disappointed in the waiter (didn't know how to get the sodas my granddaughters wanted to not be all seltzer water, didn't remember that it was my husband's birthday to provide their special dessert etc). The waiter would definitely NOT gotten the tip he did had it not been for their automatically adding it to the tab on a group of six or more. We've been to Tokyo Steakhouse many times since it opened and we have to say we've watched it's level of service and quality of the dining experience go farther and farther downhill. Let's start with why you go to a hibachi style grill restaurant... the show! Well our last two visits have landed us with chefs who were obviously going through the motions totally uninterested in entertaining to the point of being boring. The pre-meal salad was drowning in dressing and the soup was COLD! The final slap in the face was when the usual shrimp toss and catching was replaced with scrambled egg being tossed? Our first visit we met a family that came here regularly. They had young children about six and nine. Now we are regulars. The staff is friendly and the wait is not long. We like that they don't use the yum yum sauce in the fried rice. The portions are large. We used to go to Tokyo at least 3 times a year, until last night ( 12/17/2013 ). The Miso soup was cold and bland. COLD SOUP? The hot green tea was COLD. COLD TEA? My wife ordered the shrimp teriyaki. Her salad was dripping with an excessive amount of dressing. NOT COOL!! Her shrimp teriyaki had more veggies than shrimp, which were over cooked and small. Her rice was extremely hard, it looked like a brown ball, literally. A BROWN BALL. MY son and I ordered some sushi. Well, now the fun begins. My wife received her food a good 30 minutes before we received ours. This is not why families go out to eat. Most families go out to eat to eat TOGETHER. I confronted the manager and to my surprise was told the regular Sushi chef was in New York and " this guy is way behind with take out orders". WHAT!!!!. The Sushi finally arrived.. on the small side nothing special and several of the rolls fell apart. I suggest to those on vacation and visiting ( we are native Delawareans of Lewes ) save your $$$$ and spend it somewhere else. This place has gone down hill the past year or so. We will not be visiting this "joint" anytime in the future., because, I work too hard for my $$$ to give it away to a "joint" that lacks class and has sub -par food for too high a price. Go down to the Chinese Buffet 2 miles down the road on the left and for 8 bucks a person , you will get the same food only better. read more

Lived here for 7 years now and reluctantly tried this place on a few different occasions for both sushi and hibachi. My biggest complaint is that they really need to refurbish the place. I'm talking threadbare carpets. Bathrooms with leaky toilets and dirty water all over the floors. Sticky chairs. I mean come on. I feel like I'd be doing people a disservice by not giving this place this type of review. People are paying good money and giving up their evening - maybe birthday parties, celebrations at the hibachi table, etc and looking to have a nice dining out experience and I was just crawling out of my skin to get out of there. It's not right. If you're looking for good sushi in Sussex, you won't find any up here....keep on driving through Rehoboth and head down to Bethany or Fenwick. It's well worth the drive! read more

Stopped in for dinner since we needed some items from Home Depot noting their "Monday" Special of 3 rolls for $10. Asked to sit at the bar since there was a game on my husband wanted to see. After ten minutes had to ask for someone to wait on us...no bartender. Had to ask for menus. 3 rolls for $10 is a sham...nothing you would really want...would rather see that changed to 2/$10 for something legit with higher prices for upper end sushi. Mid way through the meal we got a manager who was then highly attentive which we appreciated but the damage had been done. The sushi itself was quite good but just a bad experience. There are many excellent choices for locals and sushi in the beach area and management would be wise to consider better options in the off season for locals...both service and pricing. Otherwise this won't ever be a "go to" option for those who live locally and dine out frequently. read more
