Tokyo Wako was our first after work dinner of 2024!!Its near Long Beach aquarium area/pike area. Our boss had reservations at 5:30 pm for a party of 6. It was on a rainy Tuesday and I arrived about 15 min early so there was a bit of a wait until everyone else arrived. I parked near the parking lot right in front of famous Dave's and the ticket was two hours for $5 but due to the rain the internet was down and our parking was essentially free!! ( woo hoo) The Atmosphere inside was pretty quiet minus the sizzling sounds lol. Our waitress took our order pretty fast which was nice. I ordered a green iced tea ($4)and the filet mignon entree($40.50). Each entree came with a salad with ginger salad dressing, Japanese mushroom soup and grilled veggies. For an extra $4.75 each we substituted the steamed rice for chicken fried rice. Our boss also got us some fried gyoza($10) and garlic edamame (8.50) and truffle butter edamame ($9). I loved the show our chef put on and he had a great sense of humor! For dessert me and my coworker shared the mango mochi ice cream which was delicious but our whipped cream with sprinkles on the side had a hair in it . Place was pretty empty just before dinner rush on a busy weekend but service was prompt and very friendly! Food came out pretty quick, we passed on hibachi but got to sit at the tables to watch the show for the other parties at our table. Everything was clean and had a beautiful view of the water and pier. As for the food, would pass on the truffle butter edamame as it felt too artificial and watered down whereas flaky salt does the truck. Baked lobster roll was delicious and a favorite along with the rainbow roll. Would pass on the 4 Star Sashimi appetizer that we split. Made reservations on Wednesday night and they got me down for my big party of 10 schedule it for Saturday at 7pm. We got here late due to the event that was going on we called and they were very understanding and waited patiently. My whole party wasn't here yet and they still waited until finally they sat us down. They got our drinks and the lady was very nice & attentive to what we wanted. I wrote a review about a year ago, gave this place 5 stars. Now I'm writing another and giving 1 star. The reason for it is, well there's multiple reasons. First they seem to be very cheap and stingy. It was a very hot day and I was expecting to walk in a nice cool restaurant, but it was hot in there too. I asked if they can turn up the AC and the manager said no. They had a small fan blowing but we were not able to feel it sitting where we were. Then after getting our food, my husband asked for a spoon and fork, they gave him plastic ones that you pack for to go food, smfh.... He order the steak and noodles with veggies and it came out looking like Chinese food.... I ordered the firecracker roll, it was so dry. Not even spicy and very bland. I'm very disappointed and will not be eating here again. I felt bad for the server, she was amazing but I can tell she hate how they were running things. And to top it off, my son noticed a HUGE roach on the wall before we got our check and left, I will defiantly leave that video on here. read more

We called ahead of time to make a reservation and they told us they were not taking reservations until 3 but they would be able to seat us right away. We arrived and we waited one hour to be seated. Understandable because of covid. Their tables are socially distanced and staff is wearing masks. The host that seated us was very friendly and helpful. Now on the other hand, the waitress that was assigned to our table wasn't the friendliest and had a very dry personality. Prior to covid, you would be greeted by the waitress and they would provide you with a pleasant atmosphere filled with smiles and great energy. I don't know what happened. They didn't come around to check on us. They came around to refill our water once. We had to flag down our waitress when we needed something. We ordered drinks that were made well. Those were yummy! The Japanese Blossom packs a punch but the combination of flavors are well balanced. Our food orders unfortunately did not come out together. They forgot a couple of things and the last entred until everyone was pretty much done. Not very good. The waitress did not offer any apology for forgetting a couple of things and for the delay. I had the bento box with teriyaki chicken which is over priced if you are paying the dinner price. The chicken was dry and lacked flavor. They don't give you enough sauce either. The tempura, fried rice and miso soup were the best part of the meal. The soup is served hot and makes you want more. I wouldn't stop coming here but hopefully they can do something to improve the quality of service provided to all of their customers. read more

The Tokyo Tea was very strong, my partner and I were luckily not driving so we could finish it together but it had me stumbling. The service was nice, we were sadly placed at the edge and our server was practically running between us and other tables. The ambiance was okay. We just ate here a couple of hours ago after going to the Queen Mary. My mom and I have been craving sushi the day before but decided we'll go after our trip. The host was very accommodating in seating us outside, as we have a dog. The seats were comfy and the slight breeze was perfect in cooling us down after a long day. Our server, whom I forgot the name, as I was calming my dog down, was so patient with us and the dog. We were there as soon as you opened, he was of Asian or Hispanic descent maybe? I just really wanted to thank him again. Oh! And thank you for bringing my dog some water. We really enjoyed the sushi and I particularly loved the Tempura Udon. Broth was so flavorful and the noodles had the perfect chewy texture. My mom, who is not an udon fan, asked to taste the soup and actually wanted to just order the soup without the noodles. My boyfriend and I arrived there between 5 and 6PM on a Saturday night and was able to get seated right away in the normal dining area. I ordered the Tokyo Wako roll. This roll has spicy Kani Kama crab meat and avocado roll topped with seared USDA New York steak, green onion, ponzu sauce, and eel sauce. My favorite roll thus far at this restaurant and I've tried a few. I can see why it is recommended. I only give this restaurant 4 stars because it took forever to get our check. The lunch price for the 2-item teppan grill with fried rice is lower (roughly $20), and you get the same portion compared to dinner. I came to Tokyo Wako early for weekend lunch with my dad. We were seated at the second table with another group with a child. Having a child within the group makes the most significant difference in entertainment. Our chef was entertaining. Without giving away all his punch lines, he would roll the egg back and forth, and he would say "eggroll." He would then crack the egg and use the spatula to design a rooster and say, "Japanese El Pollo Loco." I remember seeing another table filled with adults and that chef wasn't so pleasantly entertaining, rather very much focused on preparing the dish, and thought how disappointing it would if I were stuck with them. The food tasted identical to Benihana. Next time I go back, I think I would request less sodium to the chef. The food wasn't entirely salty but watching the chef letting the salt shaker rain worried me how the results would taste. read more

Picture 7 newbies to this restaurant not knowing what to order... not just that, but indecisive as heck. Yep, that was our party as we celebrated my mom's birthday. Service: immaculate! Sadly I only got our server's name, Mimi.. but the whole team was amazing. They were patient, friendly, thorough, and attentive.
