Picture 7 newbies to this restaurant not knowing what to order... not just that, but indecisive as heck. Yep, that was our party as we celebrated my mom's birthday. Service: immaculate! Sadly I only got our server's name, Mimi.. but the whole team was amazing. They were patient, friendly, thorough, and attentive. We chose the patio for the view and as soon as the sun set it got cooler. Luckily they were quick to help us move to a table under the heater. I walked inside to ask about a birthday dessert and one of the staff members, who wasn't assigned to our table, was so quick to help us and pass the message to our server. Talk about teamwork! You guys rock. Food: delicious! We had so many questions and changed our order once or twice. Mimi was quick to explain and help us make a decision which we did not regret. We got there right when they opened at 5 for our reservation and we were sat right away! The whole time we were there it didn't get too busy and the service was fast! I got the emperor steak and it was so good! the shrimp appetizer my meal came with was honestly the best thing I ate! my boyfriend got the salmon and it was really good as well! Yummy place to eat. We came right when they opened & didn't have to wait a second. Our cook, Edgar, was very funny. I'd definitely come back for the experience & the flavors. Tokyo Wako a restaurant with a catchy name and a fierce grill to match... I don't have to make the long drive over to Benihana in Torrance now that I have a a restaurant with a teppanyaki grill in my neighborhood. Located in downtown Long Beach at the Pike On a strip lined with restaurants and centered on the beach it's cool pretty and the scenery is nice and relaxing. Use valet parking it's a must on busy weekdays with these crowded popular restaurants it's not overly expensive you will love the convenience too. The restaurant was pa med so we had to wait approximately 25 minutes for our table to fill up. I ordered Steak and shrimp and upgraded to chicken fried rice - it's very similar to Benihana with grilled vegetables - he did the smoking onion and standard chef tricks on the grill for our crowd it was soo much fun and cool too watch. The only difference I see at Wako vs Benihana is the flavor and seasoning are much better here everything was seasoned perfectly with soy sauce and spices which made our food extremely tasty. Food including tip was $80 We late at Benihana last time for my birthday - our food was good but kind of bland and very expensive - the cost including our drinks was well over $120 My steak at Wako was grilled perfectly medium rare my shrimp cooked tender and crisp just as I instructed the chef. The broth/soup was delicious and we ate all of it. The salad was the bomb and since my daughter hates miso and ginger I ate both enjoying every bite. It was yummy on sooo many levels ! My daughter had teriyaki steak medium rare and said her steak was perfectly pink inside- and the soup/broth and chicken fried rice was delicious as well. The grilled veggies - zucchini and onions were delicious and my favorite - I ordered a bowl of white rice to eat with my vegetables and dipping sauces - They served yum yum sauce and miso ginger with our food. My daughter had ice water and I had an ice cold coke perfect with that hot grilled food. Our chef was lively and funny very exciting he definitely made our tables dining experience amazing and the couples young son very happy. I would definitely recommend this place for everyone. A member in my group even said it looked like "the red light district in thailand" LOL. It made it hard to even read the menu, probably because they're trying to hide their inflated food prices. Long story short, it was not worth the $$. The chicken was tough, flavorless (even with the sauce), and overall not appealing. I called on a Friday night to see if I could make a reservation for the following night and I was pleasantly surprised they had space. The day of, I tried to valet but the line was very long (line went out to the street). After 10+ mins of waiting and not moving, decided to try finding parking in the next lot. Literally no parking available. Ended up parking 4 blocks away. Note: arrive early because parking is hard to find at night. I literally ran to this place once I parked and thanked them so much for letting us still sit (I was over 15 mins late). Although I will say the place was empty for a Saturday night. No wait at all and it never filled after we arrived. We were there for my friends bday and we were so excited as none of us had ever eaten here before. We saw the few tables around us being served and having fun. The reason for the low stars was that they "forgot" we were there? And no service was being provided. We got our salads that come with the meal and then nothing. We waited 30+ mins and no chef was coming. The two tables that arrived after us were already starting their dinners. I had to call on someone and pointed out we had been waiting for a while and the other people were already being served. The person then said the chef went to the wrong table. But even then, we had been waiting for a while. The chef that we ended up getting was really nice and put on a great show. The manhattan was supposed to be made with basil I didn't taste it. I didnt like that my tuna steak was cut into dices. I prefer slices. Not my favorite sushi option, but it was acceptable for the immediate need that was required. I was a few sheets to the wind, and needed to balance out the solids to the liquids in my body. I popped in here and sat at the sushi bar area. I opted for my normal spider roll, the Tokyo Waco roll, and a side of gyoza. The spider roll was good, nothing fancy. The Tokyo Waco roll reminded me of what an unnatural mix steak on sushi is. I haven't yet pinpointed yet if it's a texture thing for me, or if my brain just can't wrap my mind around a good basic roll topped with mediocre steak. I really dig the gyoza, though. Came here kind of randomly as it was across from my parent's hotel. Didn't have super high expectations given that it was a chain restaurant in Shoreline Village. Some of the sushi prices were a bit high (spicy tuna roll), but to be honest the food was better than I anticipated. We mostly stuck with sushi and were able to get even some off-menu rolls. Let me say this I'm not a big sushi fan but did try some sushi and was good. I had got the fried rice with chicken it was good. Once we sat down in our seats our waitress was great. But before that the service was not good at all. Sunday 4/28 at 3:30 one of my family members put down their name and how many people the hostess had a attitude like she didn't want to be there and we thought she had wrote down the name. And told us to come back in 30 mintues. I went back after 30 minutes to see if our table was ready and then spoke to another girl and asked if our table was ready and she told me that they name that was put down wasn't on there I said what do you mean the girl with the slick hair with a bun told us 30 min and she wrote down the name . Turns out she didn't write my family members name down and then I was told we would have to wait a hour. I was very upset because how did it go from 30 minutes to 1 hour. I think the hostess that was working shouldn't work there if she isn't going to be welcoming and have a nasty attitude. We were seated quickly, got our drinks and appetizer quickly. After we received that we did not see our waiter at all for over 30 mins. No one checked on us to see if we needed anything. I actually joked with my fiancé what if she went on her lunch break and didn't tell anyone to serve us? He walked but where the waiter come out with the food. He said he saw her without her mask on so she was probably on her lunch. So this gentleman got us refills and we asked him to see how much longer for our food. Minutes later another waitress brought our food. Didn't taste very good. Again about 15-20 mins passed before another waitress came to check on us. My fiancé was so upset he just asked her for a check. It wasn't until then that our ORIGINAL waitress came to our table with the check. Horrible service. Also when I called earlier while we were at the aquarium to see if we can walk in or need to make reservations I was told walk ins only but they weren't doing where the cook cooks around you. While in our meal at a table we saw people on the other side of the restaurant with the cooks cooking in front of them. We upset because my kids would've loved that. So overall horrible experience! The food was great. The chefs were amicable and gave a wonderful performance. I lover the fact that you can see the water just outside. However, the waitresses need better training. They were quick to order and bring our stuff. But then we were ignored afterward. We went in a large group and went it came to the bill was where we had the trouble. We had the bill come out to 350 but including the 18% gratuity placed the bill to 407. We have cash and the rest was going to get charged to card. But the waitresses were no longer seem to pick up the tab or anything. I had to hunt down and give it to a passing waitress who was taking care of another table. Then when the bill came to sign we noticed that the cash was only 122.81 when we gave 180? Missing 57.19. Turns out they took the 18% tip from the cash without asking first. Second my other party who shared the other bill from the other table - got charged 18% EACH! from the two credit card charges spilt from their bill instead of 9% each!! We are not the type of people who were not going to tip because we were a large party. But taking at least the 120? From the total party bill. Come on! That's not ok. I love Tokyo Wako but I'd rather not get scammed on tips for a service that seemed average at best. Work better please read more

The seasoning was so authentic, and the service was great. I can't believe that the fried rice was so good, and there was egg in the rice, but it wasn't overpowering.
