It's been over a year since we went to this restaurant. We got tired of the usual places within Mercado area, so we decided to go here today. I was looking at the menu for a long time because I can't find something I like. We end up trying the seasonal menu, their Winter Pasta, Spinach and Brussel Sprout Salad, and I got a Strawberry Gin Cooler for my drinks. We liked the pasta, it has shitake mushrooms, sausages, and a touch of spiciness. The salad was okay. The dressing was light and there's a good balance of soft and hard food ingredients. Our drinks were also good. Mine has a cool refreshing strawberry taste, which masked the strong gin in it. I didn't realize how strong it was until after I finished it. We ordered Tiramisu for our dessert. It was a big serving, good for sharing. It was good, but we had better Tiramisu somewhere else. Service-wise, the initial wait for the server to assist us in our order was a bit long, but the serving time for our order was acceptable. The restaurant tables are full on a Sunday early afternoon time, probably because of the Valentine weekend, but it didn't feel crowded or noisy today. Overall, it was an okay restaurant, but not somewhere I would crave something yet. Tomatina is one of my favorite Italian restaurant in the bay-area! I miss coming to this place when I used to live in Silicon Valley- I enjoyed their happy hour menu with $3 glass of red wine specials and mostly the taste of their fresh pasta sauce made from scratch! So, just like old times I had their signature chicken (or beef) farfalle pasta with their homemade Italian bread and of course their signature salad - as always they never disappoint, the fresh sauce is delicious! I have been to Tomatina in Santa Clara for years. Since we returned to a bit normalcy after Covid, I have been to Tomatina many times: with friends, with coworkers, and (3 times) with my 2-year-old grandson. When other people did not recommend a place to meet, I normally would say "Let's meet at Tomatina in Santa Clara." I especially want to give a shout-out to Joy and Angela. Whenever I saw one of them, I knew excellent and attentive service would be there. Angela was always good at giving us the old-style menu, so we did not have to use our phones and struggle to read the menu with the small screens :-) She would check on us during the meal to ensure that we had what we needed. We happened to have Joy when my grandson was with my wife and me. Joy was really gentle and friendly with small kids. She would check on my grandson when she was not too busy. I greatly appreciate these two ladies, who make Tomatina an inviting place. Tomatina's menu offers a wide selection. My vegetarian coworkers can find something they like. My preference includes Piadine (steak, chicken, or salmon), spaghetti with meat balls, and Mediterranean salad. Sometimes, I ordered the family pack to go. Starting with drinks, Tomatina offers a great selection of wine, beer and cocktails, as well as many non-alcoholic beverages. Last time I was there, I got the Italian Smash cocktail. Tito's vodka, lemon juice, soda water, strawberry puree, and honey simple syrup. Very refreshing! For food, I highly recommend starting with the Signature Garlic Rolls. Bussin'! Pro Tip: Ask for a side of their housemade ranch and thank me later. Mama's Spaghetti and Meatballs are a classic, but the star of the show (in my opinion) is the Steak Piadine. 10/10! I had to write a review on this restaurant because the food was bad. The Mediterranean salad looked fresh on the plate, but it didn't taste fresh at all. Salad tasted "old," like it has been sitting for a long time. The main dish was spaghetti and meat balls and the meat balls were raw (uncooked) in the center of every meatball. I pointed out the undercooked meatballs to the waiter and he refused to replace the meatballs with cooked ones, the waiter matter-of-factly seemed to blow me off, telling me that he can replace the meatballs on my plate, but that they would be the same - undercooked! I didn't take a picture of the undercooked meatballs (just didn't think to take a picture), so if anyone who reads this review doesn't believe me, well-then it's just my honest review against whatever the restaurant story is. I have no reason to leave dishonest reviews here. The restaurant itself looked clean and "spiffy" and the waiters were prompt and courteous but I can't give Tomatina any more than 1 star for serving raw undercooked meatballs. I like this place for a quick lunch during work. I like how you can scan the QR code from the table to order and pay so the process is really easy especially if you want to split the bill with your coworkers. I usually order their fettuccine which i really like. I wish there's more chicken in the pasta. It's like shredded chicken in the pasta. Their portions are pretty big so I always take half home. Overall this place was really good. My friend who lived in the area suggested it and by the end we were all stuffed and happy. Getting in was a little confusing as to how to order and the order itself on our phones, it was a little tricky, but we figured it out. The Caprese appetizer was delicious, we hadn't seen it displayed this way with the flat bred, but it was really good. The penne pasta and this other noodle pasta we had were delicious. Whatever the red/orange sauce they use, was delicious. We spiced up the noodles with some red peppers and parmesan but the penne didn't need a thing, it had so much flavor. I was surprised by my lasagna, it almost came out like a soup, there was a lot of sauce around it but I feel like the actual noodles and stuffing wasn't very much. Usually this is my go-to, but if I were to come here again, I would get the other dishes and not lasagna. Tomatina is one of my favorite restaurants. The food here is very tasty. My favorite is the roasted salmon. It is delicious! The bruschetta is wonderful, and the Mixta salad is to die for. I like that they have seasonal offerings which change four times a year. The service here is very good. I come here often, and they anticipate my needs before I ask. I don't know all the waiters' names, but Hilario is fabulous, and Angela is excellent. The manager, Jocelyn, is so friendly and accommodating. The dining area is on the smaller size, and I like that I can see the chef cooking in the back of the room. Since it is a restaurant good for families, there is the occasional high-pitched squeal from a little one, but I like little kids, so I'm okay with it. I was able to sample their chicken parm, salads, margherita pizza and "pasta& sauce" dishes. My pasta from the pasta & sauce selection were pretty good and tasty. The chicken parm was a little dry for my liking but I still ate it anyways. I did notice a lot of excess oil from the garlic bread and other certain pasta sauces as well. We asked them after our meal was ready but they forgot again. Also there weren't any utensils for most of the tables.
