We came in a large group and the manager was able to relocate us to a bigger table. The entry is a bit narrow as they have a kitchen and serving area to the left with a row of seating to the right. They have more seating in this enclave that has multiple TVs. We watched the warrior's game on the large screen. The meals were generously portioned. I got the chicken wings to share and the chicken tequila pasta for myself. I was able to finish about half of the food and was very satiated. I would say it's more of a casual ambience, but very much a restaurant for side down. They do have a variety of items from pasta to pizza, salads and sandwiches. I enjoyed my time here. read more

I should have been born an Italian because I am a serious fatty when it comes to pasta. This place is now a favorite for the hubby and I! My husband tried the lamb shank and I had the chicken fettuccine. Both of our dishes were delicious, even my little one enjoyed the asparagus we got! I don't remember the name of our waitress, but she was super sweet and was always checking up on us to make sure we were doing well. The atmosphere of this place is welcoming, but extremely loud because of the bar they have & I wasn't much of a fan of the fact that their kitchen is right in the middle of the restaurant. First of all as many times as I have had meals there shame on me for waiting this long to give them a rating. We were a party of 6 on Sunday afternoon. The meal, the wait staff, the chef all were fantastic. Our server was exemplary, he helped make the dining experience a joy, even as much as we all ribbed him in fun. I suppose they are trying to prevent diarrhea, from improperly stored and processed food. From the outside it looks small and simple but when you walk in it's a nice surprise! The layout & atmosphere are great. They have multiple TV's at the bar and non-bar area. The service, crafted cocktails and food were all excellent. The Mushroom Mushroom Mushroom pizza, Salmon pasta and Bullett Bramble cocktail(sp) were amazing. Yeah.. 5 Stars, and here is why. The dishes are plentiful, flavorful with array of fresh ingredients and the service is excellent!! Tomato Thyme is a hole a wall located in a shopping center in Willow Glen between a gym and CVS. If the waiting area is full or too crowded, there's a nice little covered seating area with heaters to wait outside. We began coming here in 2012 when the Wife was pregnant with our first little Yelper, to fulfill a strong craving for Carbonara! Since then we've been back many times with both little Yelpers! Service for the kids is great- kids meals come out first, the tables have crayons and paper place mats, and drinks come in covered cups with flexible straws. The portions are generous but not too crazy. Meals for the grownups- Yay!! Carbonara, Risotto, Sole Picatta, Chicken Marsala, excellent mussels appetizer, solidly flavorful pizza and pesto with sundried tomato- just a few of the favorites! Beer list is great! Several taps fresh draft beer, and the pear martini is not to be missed. Yes they had bubbles and wine available. Staff is hugely accommodating for substitutions of sides and customization. Tomato Thyme-Willow Glen is a solid place for Italian food, but it doesn't really differ from other large restaurants like BJ's Brewery. It is located in a plaza, and at first glance doesn't look too impressive from the outside; however the inside of the restaurant will surprise you (in a good way) as it is very roomy and has an intimate vibe with dim lighting and candles on the tables. In terms of food, I tried out the popular fried ravioli as an appetizer and the lobster ravioli for an entree. The fried ravioli was a disappointment for me because I thought it would have been transformed in some way other than being tossed in the deep fryer -- in fact, I thought the frying actually took away some of the flavor of the ravioli and if it weren't for the dipping sauce provided with the dish, it would have been completely bland. I do not recommend the fried ravioli. The lobster ravioli on the other hand was pretty good! The mascarpone lobster sauce was quite tasty and paired deliciously with the ravioli which also supposedly has lobster in it, although I couldn't really pick up on the lobster because it was only there in small quantities. Is it the most amazing lobster ravioli I've tried? No, but I thought it was not bad and I did enjoy it while I was eating it. Tomato Thyme-Willow Glen doesn't seem special to me in terms of food or service, so I wouldn't make the trip to San Jose just to eat here, but if I was in the area, I wouldn't mind coming back to try out some other dishes. read more

We got our entrees first, so we had to remind them of the aranccini, but it turns out the waitress forgot, but then learned that they were out of it. So in the end we decided to get the lava cake (7.65) The ravioli took me by surprise. The portion was so small, that there was more sauce than actual ravioli, and for 13.15. I shouldn't have ordered it. The spniach calzone was huge and the pine nuts was a nice texture. and it was yummy :3 The lava cake was so small, it looked like 2 small cookies with a tiny scoop of ice cream for almost 8 bucks O_O. 3.5 Stars- I'm usually not a huge fan of places like this, they feel to much like a Buca Di Beppo food by the pound style of joint, however surprisingly, Tomato Thyme does food pretty well compared to those other type of places. My wife and I have been eating paleo recently and if you check out the menu it's a disaster for most paleo enthusiasts however fear not my friends the specials menu is chopped full of plenty of paleo friendly feasts. My wife and I both had the Chicken stuffed with pancetta. The breast portion of the bird was dry but the rest of the meat was juicy. The potatoes (Yukon golds) were delicious and just in case the food wasn't enough we ordered a grilled artichoke which was awesome! The server we had was Angel, he has served my grandma for a long time when she comes in with the bf for a meal and this guy is the man. He is super helpful, always attentive and funny. He got a nice tip because of his service and he's a main reason I'd return to try some more of their specials like the Mahi Mahi or Salmon. I really enjoyed my first experience here! The restaurant is average sized, not too big or small. They have the lights on low but don't let that fool you, conversations were flowing at every table! Seemed like everyone were having a great time. For appetizers,my family and I ordered the delicious fried calamaris with their yummy tarter and marinara sauce with a hint of lemon, fried raviolis, tasty bruschetta and their fresh on the house bread and butter! They were all pretty good! Though, I think the fried raviolis should be covered in the marinara sauce rather than having the sauce in a small dipping cup... (not enough) Their refillable soda cups are huge! (Which is great because you don't have to flag down the server every time he or she walks by.) For the main course, my little family and I had the combination pizza with roasted garlic. It was ok, the garlic made up for it. But the rest of my family loved their food! They ordered, salmon pasta, eggplant parmigiana, lasagna, tri-tip sandwich & chicken with mashed potatoes; their plates were filled! Such great proportions here! This place is a cute spot for all families young and old to come!! The prices are set average or lower than most Italian spots and the kids menu is perfect for the little ones tastes buds. Beers are on tap, they have a wine menu and don't get me started on how big their soda cups are! Let's just say for the duration of my lunch stay I definitely didn't need a refill. I ordered their buttered pancakes topped with strawberries with a side of sausage and they were to die for!! Delicious and fluffy and the strawberries were also perfect and sweet! My husband ordered the Chicken Marsala and that was seasoned to perfection. While I was able to box my left over pancakes and sausages, my husband and son- who shared a meal, cleaned their plates clean!! They also have a banquet room off to the corner for those who want to host small parties or for those who want a more intimate setting. In addition, there are a few TV's so no matter which sport you want to watch- baseball, basketball, hockey, or golf, they will accommodate. I recently came to Tomato Thyme for the first time a couple weeks ago with friends for dinner. I've had it bookmarked on yelp for awhile so I was glad to finally have one more restaurant to cross off on my list of places to try. If you've never been here before, it's hidden in a shopping complex next to CVS. Since I had a large party of 10, I made sure to make reservations ahead of time. When I called in, they informed me there would also be two large parties around the same time and may have to wait. Luckily, that was not the case when we arrived. If you're a sports fan, you're in luck because there are so many tv's here. You can watch from the bar or the larger room for big groups... although the people at the bar have priority on the sports channel they want to watch since they are synced to tv' s in the back room. We were brought out their bread right away. The bread tasted fresh, light, soft, and airy. Good thing we were brought out multiple bread refills to accommodate our large group. I ended up ordering a calzone with portobello mushrooms and spinach. It was pretty big and I ended up only eating half of it and giving my other half to Ken L. to finish. I especially liked the outside of the calzone. What can I say? I'm a fan of bread and carbs. Two friends ordered the same dish and the portions were not the same when it was brought out. One dish was visibly much larger than the other. I hope inconsistent portion sizes doesn't normally happen here. The servers were nice and very accommodating for our large group. They split up the checks by couples/groups when we ordered at the beginning and we ended up not having to pay the gratuity for large parties. I feel kind of bad about giving this place 3 stars because the food was served so promptly, our water glasses were always filled, and I really like our waiter. However, the food just doesn't cut it. While I wouldn't go as far to say it was bad, it really is just "a-ok" in my book. It's a bit pricey for what you get because I think they're trying to price the dishes as if TT should be considered a slightly upscale restaurant, which it's not. I have to reiterate the fact that our waiter was great to us. He had a pleasant attitude and was very patient with whatever questions we tossed his direction. Tonight it was crowded and noisy. Hostess said it would be an hour wait which turned into 15 minutes. I would have rather waited to get a better table- we were seated right in front of the door. The cold blasts of air from the customers entering or exiting kept us with our coats on the whole meal. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan which came swimming in oil. So much oil that even the server noticed when I asked for a spoon to take out the grease! They offered to take it back because it looked so bad. There was no attempt to make the meal a better experience. I had to quickly choose another dish to eat. My family dallied over their food so I wouldn't eat alone. It was my husband's birthday. My family and I ate a Tomato Thyme Saturday night and were very impressed by all of the extra safety and caution they are taking during Covid here. They have multiple tents outside with lots of comfortable space. It was warm out so the heat lamps weren't needed that night, but there are plenty of them in place if needed. QR Code menus are available to view on your phone if you want or paper menu option as well. The staff was super friendly and you could "feel" how happy they were to be working again. Yelpers know how to call it right. This place is a great gem tucked in the strip mall. They have nice chairs and benches outside to sit while waiting for your table. I immediately liked the atmosphere inside, not too loud, but not too quiet. Although they have TV's along the bar, it doesn't feel like a sports bar. The booths are nice and the decor is a notch above a family type restaurant. You know they're serious when the parking lot has tomatoes growing in the landscaping. I had the spaghetti Bolognese with added sausage. It was just right balance of texture, sweetness, and tangy tomato, with real sausage. Our service was excellent, with a good aptitude for the constraints of toddler-dining. (she put in the kids order first) One notable item was the decaf espresso - excellent flavor and body in a decaf. They even gave me a mini-decanter with extra. Yummy, fresh, and filling! Came here on Monday for lunch with a friend. Ordered: open face crab sandwich with a spinach salad; cream of cauliflower soup, small chopped salad, and bread pudding. Pros - Good portions. Their small salad is not small and will definitely fill you up. It's enough for one. I imagine a large salad would be enough for 2 or more people. The other dishes I saw served to other customers all appeared to full and good size portions. - Quality. No imitation crab in my crab sandwich! No wilted spinach leaves in my salad. All of our ingredients were fresh and flavorful. The bread pudding was served warm with a scoop of ice cream. The texture was just right, soft but not mushy, and the golden raisins were a nice touch. Super yummy! - Menu variety. I like that they have a separate lunch menu. Very good variety of salads, pizzas, calzones, and sandwiches. Veggie friendly, which is definitely a plus. - Good service. No wait and no complaints, but we did come at the beginning of the week. I'm sure there are other times when it gets packed and busy, so be prepared. Cons - Prices are a little high. My crab sandwich was around $13 and then to sub the salad for my fries was an extra $1.50 or something around that. Personally, I think these types of substitutes should be free, but that's me. It was just as good the 2nd thyme, so my opinion stands, best fried calamari anywhere! The 2nd thyme I went, we ordered steak off the specials menu, and we were slightly disappointed. Our family of three with a young son went here before Christmas, when it was cozy and decorated for the holidays. We don't live in the neighborhood and stumbled upon it. Bruschetta - the house-made flatbread was good and crispy. The tomatoes were served in a small bowl, so we had to build our own bruschetta. I've been here a few times and the food is always good each time! I especially like the clam chowder, it's homemade and so delicious. It's chunky and has lots of clams, incredibly delicious. I've also had the lasagna and mushroom raviolis here, both which were also very good. If you come during dinner rush, it's going to be a pretty long wait. The service is always pretty great, one time they had taken forever to bring me my salad entree, but the waitress gave me free dessert to make up for it, so that was nice! Both times I've been here we got a thick pizza rather than a thin single, and we also got the clam linguine and the seafood linguine. Both pastas were really delicious. I do wish the portions were bigger for the pasta. You have to make up for it with bread or pizza, but the size of it makes you wanting more (and definitely no leftovers). All in all great ambiance. After 30 minutes the calzone arrived and it looked completely unappetizing! There was huge globs of cheese coming out from the calzone like a thick layer of glue. The cheese was even falling off the plate! There wasn't many mushrooms or tomatoes. The crust was soft too. After I attempted to remove the masses cheese, I took a bite and found olives! I had clearly asked them for no olives and they forgot. When the waitress came I told her about the olives and cheese and she asked me if I wanted a new calzone.
