I've been here a few times and most recently visited on Father's Day. It was understandably busy and even with a reservation we weren't seated until 15 minutes after our reservation. I had been to this Tommy Bahama's several times, and I am surprised I hadn't reviewed it yet. So here I am reviewing Tommy Bahama's near fashion Island in Newport Beach. This place is not only a restaurant, and bar but it is also a Tommy Bahama store. The hot ticket is to get there for happy hour as they have some amazing specials as well as drink deals for you to while away the afternoon. There's always a good crowd there and the vibe is definitely casual and slightly upscale. That didn't stop me from wearing the work clothes that I had on from the car show I was doing. Regardless, the wait staff is absolutely amazing, they are right on the money, and ready to make suggestions and get you dialed in. I had the sliders, the fish tacos, and an old fashioned. Let me just say this about that. Those sliders were so off the hook! They were cooked perfectly, and had a special sauce and a big thick pickle and I'll tell you, I could have eaten about 12 of them. Them. The fish taco had such a great flavor and just enough spice. Absolutely amazing! Let's talk about the old fashioned. I love me some good bourbon, and this place has a lot of great bourbon options for you to choose from. I chose Woodford reserve as the base for my bourbon drink, and it was made perfectly! And you can't go wrong with a slice of key lime pie. It is so great and has such a powerful lime flavor... Like an amazing, wonderful punch in the mouth! The only reason I'm giving this place four stars instead of five, is the prices are still pretty high. Where everybody's prices have gone up. But I think they are charging more for the area than they are for the food. Now. That being said, I will still go back here in a heartbeat! Bottom line? I must admit, Tommy Bahama has been a bit of a bucket list item since discovering its presence in OC. It's not quite themed dining but it's close enough that it piqued my interest. We went here for a family dinner on a Sunday. I think my favorite part was the appetizers and it was a bit downhill from there. We got the skillet bread and coconut shrimp. These were so good! The coconut shrimp is perfect crispy and the skillet keeps the bread nice and warm. For my main, I split the blackened mahi mahi tacos with my sister along with the steak salad. Both of these were just okay. I liked the crispy potatoes on the steak salad but it was just kind of meh for the price, same with the tacos. For dessert, we overindulged with the key lime pie, cake, and creme brûlée. This might have just been personal preference but I only really liked the key lime pie. Service was decent. This review is specifically for their STORE section not the restaurant. Last week I went to this store to return a dress which I had the receipt for. I had used a $50 reward coupon on it. The lady at the register asked me how she can be any help. I told her that I would like to return this item and I have used a $50 reward coupon on. She said if I return it, I would lose the $50 which I said I am totally fine with it. Then she asked me if I had the credit card that I bought it with. These days everything is automatic. Nowhere asks fro your credit card except the businesses belonging to stone age. I said I don't have the cc and she said I can't return it! So couple of days later, I went to their Mission Viejo location. This time I had the cc and when I got to the register, the nice sales person started returning my item and he is like oh we don't need your cc to do the return. I was like what?!! He was like yeh, unless you paid with debit card, we would not need the cc to return your item! I was soooo upset and angry to be frank. It is the lack of customer service and disrespect to the time of the customer that bothered me! I know that lady didn't want me to return my item at her store because it would have gone against her bonus or sales of the day or whatever. But she doesn't realize that her action was so unprofessional that made me to write this review!!!!! We have not ate at Tommy Bahama for about couple years, we decided to come back and have a causal dinner tonight. We had a reservation at 7:30 pm for 4 people, when we get there, we had to wait for about 15 min before they seated us. Seems like the walked in got seated before us. We sat inside the restaurant since it was a cold night. The decor has not changed. It was a clean minimalist beach decor. We ordered the World famous Coconut Shrimp as appetizer. It was tasty! We ordered Lump Crab and Avacado salad, Crab Cake entrees, Creole Shrimp and Crab Pasta and the Macadamia Crusted Halibut. Followed by the Pina Colada cake and a Pineapple Cream Brulee. All 4 of the Entree are really good. However, the Coconut Shrimp and the Pineapple Creme Brulee is to die for. One reason why I did not give it a 5 star is because our server really did not come around our table to give us refill. He was very friendly, just not around too much. It's been years since I've been year and I'm not sure why but the food and drinks here are the best. I came here really hungry so that I can taste a couple of things. I started with a tequila drink and it was outstanding. I ended up having 2 of them. I had the famous coconut shrimp and it came with 2 different sauces. An orange flavor one and one tasted like some kind of peanut base sauce, both was very good, and went well with the coconut shrimp. My main entree I decided to go with the Seabass. Definitely a must try dish. It was really good. It had nice vegetables that went with it. Both bartenders were attentive. I came here during lunch time on a Friday and it was fairly busy with a nice casual vibe to it. I would recommend this place for any occasion. Tommy Bahama has an amazing happy hour and we used to love coming here for that reason alone. The drinks and atmosphere are always great and it's a really nice place to relax and enjoy. Unfortunately, we had an issue with our bill where we noticed an extra charge that was explained as a tip, even though we had tipped in cash. The restaurant was good about refunding us, but we did have to call twice to reach the right person and we never really got a clear explanation of what happened. Love to come here on a warm day. The open air restaurant is wonderful. There is also seating outside. But, we wanted to watch the football games, so we loved our table near the bar. Service was wonderful and attentive. The macadamia nut crusted halibut was delicious. We also had the holiday special salad made with kale and cranberries. Neither of us liked it. Had a beautiful lunch here with my daughter and parents this week. Our server Tyler was great. It was clear that the restaurant was very busy, but he was still incredibly attentive and friendly. For appetizers we shared the coconut shrimp and lobster rolls. Both were so flavor and came out piping hot. For our entrees, my mom and I split the Thai coconut curry with shrimp and scallops and the crab and avocado salad. Unfortunately the salad came out without the crab on it but Tyler was quick to get it taken care of and we had crab very soon after! Both were delicious and the shrimp and scallops were cooked beautifully. I will definitely be having that as an entree again. Despite that, they were kind enough to accommodate us, which we really appreciated, especially after a nearby restaurant refused to seat us because they can't seat more than 4 people in group. Service was great from start to finish. Everyone was friendly, attentive and welcoming. The drinks were excellent and the food was really good. I was treated to a business lunch with my financial advisory team on a beautiful afternoon. We had reservations and were quickly seated outside. Tables are properly spaced apart so that you can have a decent conversation without it conflicting or being heard by a neighboring table. Water is served from a carafe and was replaced when it got low. The food choices were great for a business lunch. I opted for the Crab and Avocado Salad, loaded with crab and freshly sliced avocado served on leaves of romaine with just a light amount of dressing so that I could enjoy the ingredients. I've been coming to the Newport Beach Tommy Bahama for years, and it never disappoints. However, I recently visited with my son and was disappointed to see a lot of my favorites no longer on the menu and the quality of the food decline (new chef?). However, today I returned for my annual holiday lunch with co-workers (my gift to them). The place was packed, so we were seated on the patio. Our server was attentive and friendly and took our order very quickly. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the rest of the service. The food took over half an hour to be served. We were 40 minutes into our visit and had to be back at work within an hour (again, I've come many times and was always in and out within an hour). We enjoyed our meal, knowing we'd be back to work a tad late. Once we finished and were ready to head out, I scanned the patio for our waitress, but she was nowhere to be found. Five minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes. Finally, I flagged down another server to ask him to let ours know we needed the check. Still nothing. I asked him again several minutes later, and again nothing. Finally, another member of staff (looked more senior) came to clear the plates from our table. He was very friendly, and I mentioned to him that we had to return to work and were still waiting for our bill, and commented that the service had been pretty slow. He said he'd take care of us, and we figured we'd get a free dessert. When he returned, he told me the meal was comped. I was shocked! I had my credit card out ready to pay, but he refused. Now that is great service, and is what turned this from what would've been a bad review to a positive review. They would have been better slightly warmer. The island slaw was yummy, and had some wonton pieces that added a nice crunch. I didn't try the lobster spring rolls, but my bf said they were tasty, but didn't have any crab inside (it's mostly pork). For the entree, I got the Vday special: Lemon Pacific Sole.
