This review is primarily for the takeout food I had here. I've only been here for a happy hour alumni event and honestly, it struck me as slightly overpriced for the quality of food you're getting when there are really great Thai restaurants close by. I remember thinking that everything was generally alright but there's a reason I hadn't been back since then. My workplace did lunch orders through Tommy Thai, and I figured I would be safe with a pad thai. It was kinda expensive for a lunch order, though the amount they give you is quite massive. I didn't end up finishing it, but mostly because it was massively disappointing. It's probably the worst pad thai I've had in the bay - it tasted overly sweet and lacked the sort of punch you normally get from pad thai and balance from something sour. Luckily, my office had a lemon I could squeeze onto it (I started with half but ended up using the whole one) since no lemon or lime came with, which did improve the taste a little but not enough to save it from becoming food waste. Neither did the extra salt I added in. Normally I don't complain about getting massive portions, but it actively made it harder to mix the extra salt and lemon in to the dish and generated more food waste because I didn't really want to finish all of it. The chicken (which was a dollar extra) was similarly flavored and didn't so much add a chicken flavor as much as a different texture. If there were bean sprouts they were well camouflaged. If there was a spicy option, I would have picked spicy but I couldn't really tell. If you like your pad thai sweeter than most places that serve it, this might be the place for you. I've only gotten their takeout a few times, so this review is based only on their food and not the dine-in experience. The food here is great - I've ordered for a large group and everyone really enjoyed the food. Their portion size is decent and you don't feel like they're skimping out on you. We've gotten the green curry, Panang curry, pad se ew, pad Thai, and whole steamed sea bass. Every dish was delish! I highly recommend the food here if you're looking for some good Thai. Wow, very pleasantly surprised by this restaurant serving Cambodian and Thai style dishes. Every item we ordered was delicious: Rad nah, tamarind eggplant and tamarind beef. Tamarind dishes were really flavorful and well prepared. Staff was very friendly and the cozy and comfortable atmosphere lent to the pleasant dining experience. I have an addiction to yellow curry and roti. It's like breadsticks and marinara sauce - such a heavenly combination. I find myself frustrated when I find a spot that has yellow curry, but they don't have roti so I was happy to see they had both. My typical jam when I'm in the mood for thai is yellow curry w roti, a side order of rice and some egg rolls. I'm plant based and I don't do tofu so I like a veggie heavy curry and a nice veggie filled egg roll. Well baby - Tommy Thai delivered. I've ordered from quite a few places out in Silicon Valley and many places irritate me. Sometimes the curry is bland and boring. I ordered from this one spot and the roti looked so colonized it was cut into these triangle portions and had a airy dry texture that was hella abnormal to me like huh? Why did y'all do this? LOL Anyway all I'm tryna say is that Tommy hit the spot. Curry flavor profile was on point. Roti portion was on point. Egg rolls was fire too. This is the most satisfied I've been with a yellow curry situation and I'm telling you, I've been hoping around ALOT of spots trying the yellow curries. I honestly should have a YouTube channel dedicated to yellow curry with how much I order it lol. My only complaint/suggestion and hopefully they read this because it would make everything PERFECT... is the thickness of the curry. It was on the watery side, but the flavor profile made up for it. I've had some good and tasty lunches here, and I'll be back again. The food is solid, the service is considerate, and the location is convenient to me. I just won't do again what I did last time, which is take advantage of the menu's option to remove from the dish any vegetable you don't want. Because if you do that, the chef will substitute some other unannounced vegetable of their own choice. And what if it's something else you dislike even more than what you asked to be removed? Why, not realizing that it was intended as Chef's Choice substitute, you send the dish back and ask for it to be re-made without that other thing either - and then they substitute yet another unannounced vegetable that wasn't in the menu listing and which you didn't ask for either. Fortunately this time it's something that you like, so you can eat it. This is the second Thai restaurant I've encountered where the chef puts in the dish the veggies that they feel like, rather than what was listed in the menu. (I've never found yet another restaurant that did this.) The other one quickly went out of business. read more

Very peanutty! HUGE portion!! Tender beef, soft potatoes. Medium spice. So good! Would order again! Hor Mok (steamed boneless cod and cabbage in a thick curry paste finished with coconut milk) BLOODY DELICIOUS! Tender white fish steamed to perfection perfectly seasoned and al Dante cabbage. No rice necessary! "E-fricken normus"portion for a dish like this. For one, it's super rare to find this on menu in the USA, two, this is usually quite small. Tod Mun (fried minced fish mixed with curry paste, kafir lime leaves, and green beans) I'm sorry guys. But you need work on this one. I appreciate that it seems homemade though. Tod Mun is supposed to be firm with a bit of a chew, red in color from the curry paste and if done properly, not greasy. Sadly it was mushy, greasy and lacking flavor. Overall, it's clear they do certain items VERY well. Disappointed about the Tod Mun but I will for sure be back for the Hor Mok!! read more

I had a strong curry craving at 10p and this place was open on Yelp! I called in my order and picked it up to go. The restaurant is small on the inside but it has a parking lot which is nice. I had to wait a little when I got there for my food to be ready, about 5 mins. The curry had just the right amount of spice. I'm someone who is getting more and more into spice so it pushes my limits a little, but nothing some rice and a glass of water couldn't help. While it is not the best Thai food I have ever had, the quality is decent, portions are huge and it's well-priced. The curry was light with subtle flavors and not too overpowering. I ordered the spicy version and it was a decent level of spice. The veggies in the curry were well-cooked and sliced to the right size. The chicken was well cooked, not too dry, and not too moist. The ice tea was a bit of a disappointment for me, it was too bland and not much flavor. But the main course was good so overall a place worth trying again. read more

Ordered via Uber Eats and it was pretty disappointing. I'm not sure if the descriptions on the menu wasn't updated but the pricing was kinda high for the small portions we got. Portions were really small and there wasn't much with the Pad Khee Mao. Just a pile of noodles and a smidgen of basil. We ordered a vegetable dish and it was missing two of the items in the description so we called and since it was Uber Eat delivery they claimed that they couldn't do anything about it. Oh well. Tommy has been a reliable standby for my group of MV friends for years now. When I lived in the Bay Area I would be in MV at least once every week, and we could always rely on Tommy for take out or a good sit down meal. The stars aligned over this past weekend, as the whole gang was in town at the same time and hungry for Thai, so we knew what we had to do. You've got many options here, from Thai to Cambodian to Curries to vegetarian options. Their yellow curries are not to be missed. There's one with pineapple and baby corns that I am blanking on the name of at the moment, but it's delicious. Useless Yelper to the rescue! If you order a dish with shrimp, you'll only be charged a dollar extra, and the shrimp are HUGE. It's a very good deal. Service is friendly and fast, especially for take out. They've got thai tea, and a few draft beers, and you MUST try the roti appetizer. Yum! Tommy is always clean, and rarely so busy that you won't find a place to sit. I would have to vote this place as the lowest quality and worst Thai food I've ever had. The pineapple fried rice was just a mixed of rice, chicken, carrot, and pineapple, not a Thai "fried" rice! The Cambodian Hor Mok was so salty and so stink. For each dish, I paid $3 more of the price listed on Yelp menu. Yet I only had one bite of each dish and trashed them all due to their improper cook and terrible tastes. Tommy Thai never disappoints! Some of the BEST Thai food I have ever had. Came for a lunch on Saturday, and we were served quickly and the food came out in minutes. We ordered Thai Beef Salad, Pad Thai, Tom Kha soup, BBQ Beef and the Massaman Curry. All were very very good. The Tom Kha soup is particularly wonderful. So full of flavor! The chicken and prawns were fresh and juicy. Perfect for leftovers the next day! With food prices getting so expensive, it's great to be served food that actually worth what you pay for it! I ordered Pad Thai, Pineapple Stir Fry and Mango Sticky Rice. First of all, they left out the desert (I had to get the delivery company to refund me) and then the other two dishes tasted like bland blobs of nothing. No seasoning, nothing. What has happened to Tommy Thai? Do they have a different Chef? They keep making major errors on phone orders. We asked for everything vegetarian with tofu and veggies repeatedly saying that everything should be vegetarian. First time I received Tom Kha soup with Chicken (note they did give me a replacement soup later on) but then today for my friend's birthday we had a substantial order, they gave chicken fresh rolls instead of tofu. The fresh rolls are so bland now just lettuce and the protein component. Giving us chicken fresh rolls instead of the tofu caused so much stress and chaos at the dinner party where everyone was strictly vegetarian and vegan. They were Jains and have taken vows and You could not see it was Chicken initially. Luckily no one had an allergy. Feel so sad. Also the stir fry vegetable dishes were so watery and oily. The curry dishes were bland. We use to always order the curries at spice level 4 and now there is a guy at Tommy Thai who was so rude and said that all the curries are medium spicy regardless. This is not true. The last few times I have been at Tommy Thai I have not liked the food as we always do. everything came out mild and bland. No flavor. What's up with this? I love this place. I always deliver from DoorDash and sometimes it's a bit slow but what can you expect from such a popular restaurant! I eat here at least 3 times a week. My favorite dishes are: Cambodia See Ew (coconut lemon sauce!!!) Hor Mok LEMON SEA BASS!! This is a must if you love fish. I eat it with papaya salad and a side of rice. Must try! read more
