Oven roasted roast beef sandwich
Eric G.

This place has potential but one major flaw. Our sandwiches had excellent flavor but were extremely skimpy on the meat. Honestly these needed at minimum twice the meat.

Very tasty sandwich!! After hiking the red rocks we wanted something quick and easy, this location was less than 10 min drive and a perfect lunch spot. Sandwich was packed with flavor, pork was tender, just the right amount of spice. Service was quick, has outdoor seating, good music.

You can read braille through the amount of meat on the sandwich!!!!

This place has been around since I was a kid. It was amazing for many years. I know it's changed hands a couple times, and I'm not sure who the owner is now. It's also been a while since I've been here as I moved out of town for a few years. I was so excited to get another Tommy's sub the other day. I can truly say I was saddened by what has happened to Tommy's. I ordered my usual Italian Cosmo, and pardon the expression, but you could literally "read braille" through the amount of meat they put on the sandwich. Picture provided so you know I'm not exaggerating. The place is still clean and inviting, but wow, the food has gone so downhill so sad.

Roast beef special

Had to pick up some cupcakes next door and decided to grab a sandwich from Tommy's. They opened pretty early that day which worked out and decided to go with their roast beef special. Not my favorite of their sandwiches, but when you put it on one of their soft and crispy rolls it automatically becomes awesome.

Nasty a** Jamaican jerk

Waste of money I worked here for two years. Used to be much better but the stars are very rude and aggressive. I ordered a Jamaican jerk sandwich with avacado for an extra 3$. Got home and the sandwich was drenched in sauce no avocados the meat was grinded up and fatty. It's supposed to come with STRIPS of chicken not sloppy Joe consistency grease balls. Called back to see if I could get store credit because they have done that for years! The guy was super aggressive and rude over the phone and said he would just refund it and hung up. Extremely poor customer service. Jeff is a great owner but these staff are way out of control

TOO MUCH BREAD !!

The owner resembles a young version of the soup nazi from Seinfeld. Sandwiches are to die for. If you dont eat here, youre missing out.

Best subs in Denver! Great spot to hit up before red rocks. The spicy peppers make the subs.

Nothing fancy. Just a good little sub shop like you may find back east.

Always worth stopping here when close. Someday I'll try something besides the club sandwich.

A really good sandwich on tasty bread. The only thing missing....pickles. How can you have subs w/o pickles?

To die for! I don't know what they put in their special peppers, but it makes the sandwich! You can't beat the price, that's for sure.

For apps, the fried avocado is my favorite (Mexican street corn, Cotija, bacon, chipotle aioli) and their deviled eggs are a nice, reliable choice too. The star of the show is the 242 Smashed Burger (their brisket + short rib blend) is incredible -- juicy, flavorful, and consistently well-executed. Might be the best burger I've had. I've also loved the meatball sub and on another visit enjoyed the short ribs -- all solid entrees. Portions are generous and the menu has a lot of thoughtful, tasty options. Service has been consistently good on every visit -- friendly and attentive staff who keep things moving without feeling rushed. Owner Dave is always welcoming when he's around, which makes the place feel community-oriented and genuine. Overall I highly recommend Tavern 242 if you're in the area -- great burgers, tasty apps, dependable service, and a comfortable atmosphere.

As I walked in around 4 pm with family, we were the only ones in and then as the day progressed, more people came in for an early dinner! Clean, little rustic looking, Walls filled with fun graphics, kind staff, fun looking bathroom signs (women's) is how I will describe this restaurant. We ordered tacos - al pastor, carne asada, chicken, shredded beef, Adobada (pork without pineapple) and smothered marinated pork Burrito. Loved all the dishes and the clear winner for us was the Adobada meat (marinated pork). Every single bite was flavorful, juicy and tender. The seasoning was just right without it being overpowering. Both the Tacos and the gooey Burrito were filled with lots of meat - honestly, it was simple and satisfying without it being too greasy. Pricing was very affordable for the food portions and the food quality you get here. This is definitely an authentic spot you want to visit whenever you are in the mood to eat Mexican food - simple high quality food. Highly recommended and a spot I will always return to whenever I visit Denver next time.

Our waitress was also great at giving food recommendations. She suggested locations to visit that she discovered throughout her time in Denver and gave tips on how to prepare for our first time at red rocks. We started with the baked goat cheese dip and the server immediately confirmed that it was a good choice for an app. We also got the verlasso salmon and the filet, which was the special. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS. We were very pleased with our whole experience and would recommend to come try their food!

Walked in and we were seated within 5 minutes. Our host let us know he was not the waiter and would bring us water or other drinks we would like and our waiter would be with us shortly. Fabulous lunch menu along with a Kids menu that the kiddos could color on which is always a plus. I ordered the half Apple Cheese Chive salad and it was fantastic. I could have eaten the full salad. When I ordered it the server asked, "Have you had this salad here before?" To which I answered no. He shared that the salad does not come with lettuce, it comes just as it says on the menu: apples, cheese, chives. Okay. It sounds delicious to me. Now I want to create this at home! Also ordered at our table: Grilled Cheese and tomato soup and Steak Frites. All were given two thumbs up! We would definitely come back here when in the area.
