Communicated up front about taking care with my jewelry and breakable sentimental items, the guy who coordinated the move agreed. No care was taken, just tossed into a cardboard box for me to discover. Bone chess pieces? Tossed in with books. Necklaces? Mixed in and tangled up with hair accessories. I did quite a bit of research looking for a company that would do a cross country coast to coast move for me. I found that many of the companies hire subcontractors and it can take 3 to 5 weeks for your items to arrive. This was absolutely not going to work for me! When I spoke to John from this company he came right away to ascertain my situation how many items that I had and gave me a quote right away which was very reasonable. He guaranteed that my items would arrive in five days and they absolutely did. They were extremely competitive in their pricing and I cannot stress enough how professional the workers were that came and assisted me in my move. All of my packing was done with impeccable detail and as I'm unloading everything and unpacking I have not found one item that has been broken. This is saying a lot considering I moved from California to Maine. I cannot highly recommend this company enough! Moving into my apartment was a nightmare. The company I used (Not Tom's) broke some of my things, were super slow and just not great. So fast forward to this morning I was expecting the same experience. Not only did Alex and Dan show up on time, but were super friendly and joked around with us all morning. Best movers I've every had. Came the day before the move with 4 people to finish my packing (including full kitchen and dining room). Returned the next morning with 6 movers and 2 trucks. Moved me 90 miles and spent nearly 13 hours doing so, including 3 hours in traffic. Were wonderful the entire day and grateful when I bought in pizza. I spent a *long* time looking for a moving company. I put out a request online and received around 50 different moving companies providing quotes, anywhere from 10K to 3K, to move my small 3-bedroom apartment from Los Angeles to Texas. After many on-site visits and long consideration, I decided to ask a few friends if they knew of anyone reliable. I was referred to a company called Dinos, and then after speaking with that company (who does not do state-to-state moves) they pointed me towards Tom'a Marathon Movers. John T (the owner/CEO) came to my apartment and discussed the move with me. He looked through each of the rooms, provided a quote and shook my hand on the price. I'll be honest: I was concerned because after we had an agreement I double checked all of the reviews here on Yelp and discovered a few unsavory remarks about the company. I called John about these reviews and asked him to explain and as they say there are "two sides to every story". The explanation that John provided me regarding some of the negative reviews, coupled with his tone and sincerity was enough to make me feel confident about having his company (Tom's Marathon Movers) move all of my items. Also having another moving company co-sign their services did not hurt! Anyhow, the day of the move, John had two of his longtime associates/co-workers (Ezra and Armando) come to my house a few hours before the official "pack-in" was supposed to happen. These two gentlemen helped with a lot of different things that were above-and-beyond what had originally been agreed to and quoted with respect to the overall scope of the move, including unhooking my refrigerator, un-mounting my televisions, hoisting a couch from a 3rd floor balcony to the first floor, shrink-wrapping my furniture, and more. In total it took around 4 hours for him and his crew to load-up everything for the drive. John would leave that evening and personally drive the truck with my belongings from Los Angeles to Texas. He took a picture of the back of the truck so that I had a reference for how everything had been loaded and I even showed him how to use a GPS app so that I could look at anytime on my phone and see exactly where the truck with all of my things was at as he drove the 20+ hours! To say that John and his crew went above-and-beyond during the load-in would be an understatement... Upon arrival in Texas, John and his crew arrived right on-time and brought everything in. John showed me the back of the truck so that I could cross-reference the picture from the load-in and could confirm that nothing had moved/etc. when they arrived. His crew in Texas laid out matts so as not to damage the just-cleaned carpet (that was still wet!) and every box was accounted for, every item inside the boxes was there, and not a single thing had been broken or damaged. In addition to this, John and his crew would move many boxes that had originally been designated for a first-floor delivery to the second floor, up multiple flights of stairs. Needless to say, I was as generous as I could be with their tip for all of the extra effort. The pack-out was around 2 hours total. Lastly, we had some difficulty moving my large couch into a room within the new place and needed to disassemble it to move into a relatively tight area. After we discovered that neither John nor I had the tools necessary to perform this task, John went the extra mile and jumped into a car and traveled with me to a Home Depot to get the tools necessary and then completed the task at my new home. I cannot say enough nice things about John, his crew, and Tom's Marathon Movers. John and his team have been in-business for over 20 years and their attention to detail, flexibility, price and "can do, will do" attitude was way beyond what I had expected from what many would consider a "boutique" moving company. I will likely need to move again soon and will certainly be calling Tom's Marathon Movers again. Despite some of the reviews you may read here, I can confirm to you that you just cannot go wrong with this group based on my experience. read more

My review is 4 months late and I'm disappointed I've forgotten the names of the two gentlemen that helped me move. I should start by saying I have moved A LOT and my experiences with other moving companies are usually so-so at best. Tom's was referred to me by my cousin, sister, and co-worker who had all used them previously and gave them glowing reviews. My move consisted of 3 stops - the final being about 30 mins away. Not only did the guys finish 30 minutes ahead of schedule but the total price was exactly what I had been quoted over the phone to the dollar. That never, ever happens in my world. The guys were so organized and careful with my belongings. Very willing to arrange and rearrange the furniture placement. They ran up & down the stairs to get the next load in the sweltering summer heat. Tom's is the only moving company I'll use from here on out. Worth every penny! read more

I was put in a tough situation with the purchase of a home not going through in time. My landlord had already rented my unit and I had 48hrs to move out. I called around to movers after 7pm with no luck until Tom answered. He said he could have a couple guys over the next day late afternoon since it was short notice. He said there were no hidden fees and went over the price with me which was very reasonable. It was exactly that and I've had quite a bit of movers. He cut the price of most movers in half and the guys worked hard. Most companies usually get you with some hidden fees which is very annoying. Especially when you feel you have an idea of what its going to cost and it ends up being $100-$300 more. I was very happy and impressed with the result of my move. I will recommend to anyone I know! These guys are amazing. Moving sucks, let's face it. Even if you want to move, it still sucks and is somewhat overwhelming when you look at all the stuff you actually have. But Tom's Marathon Movers makes it way easier. In July, I moved from a 2 bd into a 1 bd. Initially I signed up for a 2 man crew, but because I was the afternoon move and they were running late, they sent a 3 person crew at the same price point. Love that customer service! They moved me in so quickly and efficiently. Unfortunately, that apartment sucked and I had to move again just a few days ago. I called Christmas Eve and they were able to schedule me for the following Wednesday. Again, they made everything so smooth, easy, and efficient. I've used Toms twice now. The first time I hired them, I called to get an estimate. They were a lot less expensive than several other moving companies I called. And the reason is because, they don't charge a bunch of tacked on , ridiculous fees! The price was very reasonable. They were on time and quick. They did a really good job and I paid the minimum amount. So, a couple of months later. I hired them again . Four movers to clear out my storage unit. They did a great job of moving my extremely fragile heavy glass c4 door one piece china cabinet. Turned it on its side and moved it right in the front door. The customer service at Tom's was on point, so I had high expectations for their services. Unfortunately, my experience fell terribly short. My movers were set to come between 1 and 3pm. I received a call around 10:30am stating that they finished their last move earlier than expected and asked if they could come at 11. I said okay, even though I was not quite ready for them. Two movers arrived with a truck. They were friendly, and said they'd get the job done in 3 hours (which was the minimum I had to pay for). Great. I had a lot of my belongings packed with the exception of some things in my bedroom and closets. They started with the larger furniture items and all the boxes I had sealed up. My dressers that were full were wrapped in seran wrap and taped up so nothing could come out of them, but not in any sort of blankets like shown in the photos on Yelp. They provided a few wardrobe boxes (I believe 3), which wasn't enough. They asked me to put my clothes in them so I did. Once they were done packing up all the larger items, they started throwing anything that I hadn't finished packing into the random boxes that I had. They took what was in my coat closet and proceeded to just throw them into a wardobe box, rather than actually hanging them. My shoes, hats, and purses were all smashed into a box, and I was very annoyed and upset to see that many were misshapen and dirty when I unpacked them later that day. Any miscellaneous items I had were thrown carelessly in the back of the truck. What made me furious was that they left my coffee table and refrigerator to be put in last. Both of these items were not wrapped like my bedroom furniture was. My wooden coffee table, which I had spent a lot of money on only a couple months prior, was somehow damaged during the move. A chunk of the wood in the corner had come off and there was a bit of paint on it, which made it look like they ran it into a wall or something. This was EXTREMELY disappointing. They finished moving everything in 2 and a half hours. I paid by check and tipped in cash. I expected them to unwrap my furniture, which they did not do even though they finished early. I ended up asking them to unwrap them, which seemed like the last thing they wanted to do. Everything left in the wardrobe boxes were thrown on the floor. Thinking back I wonder if they finished the last job so quickly because they rushed it as well. I am extremely disappointed in the quality of service I received by Tom's Marathon Movers, which really surprises me because they have so many excellent reviews on Yelp. Maybe it was just my movers rushing, but even so I will not be using Tom's again. read more
