With a bar to the right and a laudermat on its left finding a parking spot is like winning the lotto. Now layer in one driveway and you have to make a 3 point turn just to navigate to leave. The short answer is I will absolutely go back to this place as long as there is a parking space to be had.

Albóndigas soup, shrimp tacos, and street tacos--all served with rice and beans. The adult dishes were just as good. At the end of the meal, Washington offered us "holy water"-house tequila shots on the house--and it wasn't cheap tequila either! Then after the bill came, he surprised us again with another round of "holy water". That level of generosity and care really impressed us. We also learned that the restaurant has been there 20+ years and is family-run by him and his siblings, which made the experience feel even more personal. You can tell they have a loyal customer base--one couple even said, "See you tomorrow Washington!" The only feedback we'd offer (coming from a customer service background) is that we noticed a few guests waiting at the entrance without being greeted, and one couple actually left the restaurant. Like many Mexicans, I grew up believing that the best Mexican food can only be found in Mexico. However, La Huasteca completely exceeded my expectations. The food was authentic, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. We ordered the fajitas, menudo, and several appetizers, and every single dish was excellent. You can tell they put a lot of care into the quality and preparation of their food. The service was great, the atmosphere was welcoming, and most importantly, the food tasted like real Mexican food. That's not something I say often. If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine and don't mind paying a little extra for quality, I highly recommend La Huasteca. We will definitely be coming back.

I thought most of the 5 star reviews seemed sketchy and I was right. The food here is absolutely disgusting. My husband and I ordered two carne asada burritos online, mine was all meat and his was a regular with rice and beans. When he went to pick up the food they said our order never went through even though I got the confirmation it did. That wasn't a big deal, annoying, but things happen. The food was was so bad though that I had to create an account and post my first review. There was so much "meat juice" inside my burrito that it was soupy. Not a little soupy, I mean soaking through the tortilla and pouring out anywhere it could because it had also combined with the unnecessary amount of guac, sour cream, and salsa they slathered on there kind of soupy. Despite ordering an all meat burrito there was hardly any meat. It probably had something to do with all of the liquid in my "3 scoops". The meat that was there was rubbery and tasted nothing like carne asada (unless your version of carne asada is boiled, rubbery, and bland). I added a picture of my husbands burrito. It was literally wrapped in a ball when we got it and like mine the liquid had soaked through half of the tortilla by the time he unwrapped it. Both burritos had to be put in bowls because of the amount of liquid that was coming out of them. If you enjoy cafeteria style boiled meat, burritos you need a straw for because they're over stuffed with surprise meat juice and wet toppings Tom's Tailgate is definitely for you. For everyone else with functioning taste buds don't even bother with this place. read more

Simple. Good. Food. Ever gone into a restaurant and been totally confused by the menu? Not here. There's 8 main items posted in HUGE letters above the counter. And you get 6 meat/fish alternatives to choose from. That's actually 48 different choices but they're presented so SIMPLY that it keeps you out of overwhelm and gets you right into the food. Which is good, fresh and FAST. I wasn't really very hungry, but curiosity and the wonderful aroma wafting across the parking lot lured me in. I just had the taquitos and guacamole side dish (the photo which I've posted here). Big flaky taquitos, tasty filling, lots of hand cut chips and fresh, tasty guacamole with just the right balance of garlic and cilantro. Big plate for only $3. Main dishes are only $5.50. Seriously good food that's wallet friendly. Will definitely be back with my husband. read more

The food is good but dosen't live up to the hype its been getting. Its just another Mexican comfort food joint to please people who have no idea what mexican food is. Some would say its food to please your common white person.The carne asada is not real carne asada..the chef just marinates regular steak meat (instead of using flap meat/ rachera) to fool people into thinking its real carne adada. The meat is just tenderized steak meat chopped up like carne asada. In my opinion its not authentic Mexican food. To the person who mentioned they should have beer, don't bet on it cause you won't see any beer because its a christian establishment. read more

Everyone needs to try their nachos, probably one of the greatest inventions of all times. This place is way better than Chipotle or Free birds (Santa Barbara). The salsas that they have there are some of the best tasting and authentic salsas I have ever had. The plus to this business is that a lot of the people working there are La Mirada natives. A decade later and I'm happy to update that it is still just as delicious as ever. The Whittier location is tucked away off Mulberry and La Mirada Blvd. I was greeted by the friendly staff and aroma of assorted meats and cilantro and onion. The carne asada is some of the best in the taco game: tender and flavorful. In a taco or burrito you cannot miss with the carne asada. I also ordered carnitas which were full of flavor and paired nicely with their tangy salsa verde. The horchata was refreshing and ice cold with hints of rice and spice that was more than nice.
