Was in town with a couple of friends celebrating a birthday. Found this place randomly looking for a late dinner in the Chinatown area. What a hidden gem! This is the best katsu place I have ever had, and I had plenty of katsu in my days. I ordered the Rosu Katsu (pork tenderloin cutlet). The pork cutlet is covered with a thin layer of fluffy panko (fried bread crumb batter) that just melts in your mouth when one takes a bite. The pork cutlet itself was just devine as well! Also for the katsu sauce, the restaurant also provides freshly roasted sesame, and you get to grind it down with small wooden mortar/pestle. The grind sesame smells so aromatic and matches perfectly with the tangy and sweet katsu sauce! If you like Japanese Katsu, this is the place to be! Great service and very relaxing ambiance. Since this restaurant is located in the busy part of Chinatown (aka Spring Mountain Rd area), parking can be pretty packed. For sure I will be coming back when I'm in town again. Ton Shou was a solid spot for Japanese comfort food in Vegas. We went on a Saturday night, joined the waitlist, and were seated pretty quickly once we arrived. We ordered: * Ton Shou Special -- good overall and a nice variety. * Uni Pasta -- VERY creamy, but I love creamy pasta so I was into it. Definitely very rich, though. * Wagyu Beef Tataki -- good quality and flavorful, but I thought there was a little too much sauce that covered up some of the beef. * Takoyaki -- flavor was okay, but the piece of octopus inside was so tiny. * Tonkatsu Sando -- way bigger than we expected and actually pretty good! The bottom had this egg salad-like layer that reminded me of those convenience store egg sandwiches in Japan IYKYK. Definitely a nice little touch and made the sando even more filling. One thing to know: the portions are pretty generous, so don't make the mistake we did and go crazy ordering. We were a group of 3 and definitely over-ordered. There was so much food and so many carbs that we felt like crap afterward LOL. I do wish our server had been a little more helpful with recommending portions. I actually asked her if our order was too much food before we placed it, and she said, "You can always order more." GIRL... YOU SHOULD'VE TOLD US TO REMOVE SOMETHING. Ok, I'm not sure why I haven't reviewed this place even though we've been here multiple times. They're in the Chinatown Plaza, and If you've ever visited restaurants there. You know that parking can be horrendous. Try to make a reservation online prior to coming, because they do get busy. The food here is delicious! I normally order their shrimp katsu and alternate with their salmon katsu. The salmon is juicy and not overcooked and dry. I love their katsu batter they use. It gives such an amazing crunch to the meat of choice. My fave sauce to dip my salmon or shrimp is their tartar sauce! It is so good! So if you're looking for a spot to enjoy good katsu and tempura. Swing by here for an early dinners. We tried their yellowtail cappaccio, tonshou salad, crispy shrimp lollipop, gyoza, chicken katsu with curry, ikayaki, and cucumber mikizushiz. Wow! How delicious! My yellowtail cappaccio was bright and comes with a punch. Nice. The salad was a huge pleasant surprise. The slight smokiness from the grill definitely transferred the entire experience. Kids love their gyoza and katsu along with curry. I enjoyed the crispy shrimp lollipop, the solid cucumber rolls and the lovely ikayaki. The ikayaki was great. Still soft, not chewy, lovely flavored with the right amount of char. For katsu, they preserve a bowl of sesame and you can start to grind the seeds. When katsu is served, they will pour sauce over the grinds. It was a fun experience! I also got a hot tea. Service was great and always attentive. When it came to dessert, they told us they got the standard Japanese cheesecake and we might find something more interesting around. The staff is incredibly kind, fast, and attentive, and if you're not sure what to order, they're more than happy to make recommendations. We started with their appetizer of portobello fries, which are hands down the BEST fries I've tasted so far! They're light, crispy, and absolutely delicious. At $14, they're a tasty way to start the meal. Now let's talk about the Tori Katsu (chicken breast cutlet) because it is hands down the BEST katsu I've had thus far! The chicken is tender and juicy, while the breading is crispy, light, and practically melts in your mouth. And the katsu sauce experience? LOVE IT! You get to smash the roasted sesame seeds yourself until they become a gritty powder, then pour in the katsu sauce and mix it together. WOW -- game changer! It makes the meal fun and interactive, but even better, the flavor is incredible. For $25, the entrée comes with cabbage salad, pickles, and their delicious tonjiru soup with miso, pork, and vegetables. The soup is so comforting and flavorful. Your rice is also made-to-order and kettle-cooked, which makes the whole meal feel extra special. My husband loves the Rosu Katsu (pork loin cutlet). His favorite way to eat it is to add a little hot mustard directly onto the katsu and then dip it into the sesame katsu sauce. So good! My only complaint was at checkout. The waitress stood right there waiting while we selected the tip, and I really dislike that. It makes the tipping process feel awkward and pressured. I would much rather be given a little privacy to complete the payment and choose my tip without someone standing over me. Other than that, we had a wonderful experience. From the relaxing atmosphere and great service to the quality of the food and all the little interactive touches, Ton Shou Katsu & Izakaya has quickly become one of our favorite spots in Chinatown. It was our first time coming here, and I had heard that the food was very good. The inside of the restaurant was beautiful and had a very nice atmosphere. The artwork on the walls was especially pretty. Otro sashimi was very high quality. It was delicious and melted in my mouth. I ordered the Cheese Tonkatsu, which came with Tonjiru, a special miso soup made with onions, carrots, and pork. The soup was very flavorful and comforting. The rice was also so delicious. A restaurant so good I went twice in two weeks--and the second time, I brought my family. They can get busy and don't really take reservations, but you can go online, put your name on the waitlist with your estimated arrival time and party size, and with any luck they'll have your table ready by the time you get there. Inside it's a little narrow, but it's bigger than it looks, and they easily seated our party of seven without issue. Ton Shou is mainly known for the Instagram videos of their bubbling Wagyu cheeseburger, but it's actually a katsu house famous for both chicken, pork and salmon katsu--and pretty much anything fried, like tempura. I first went for the cheeseburger, and OMG was it good. It's super rich (almost like French food), bursting with garlic and that deep Wagyu flavor. The bubbling melted cheese is liquid mozzarella, and the burger itself comes with two slices of cheddar. Fair warning: it's served on a piping-hot skillet, so tread carefully. The second visit was all about the dishes I'd spotted the first time and wanted to try. The spicy tuna and crispy rice was one of the best I've had--the little slices of jalapeño actually deliver on the "spicy" promise. For the katsu, I asked our waitress for a recommendation between pork and chicken; she said salmon is their most popular, followed by chicken. I'd already eaten fish that week, so chicken it was. She also suggested adding a side of curry along with the katsu sauce. (Pro tip: before the meal arrives they bring a little plate and ram so you can crush sesame seeds for the sauce.) The chicken katsu was delicious--hand-breaded tempura crust, juicy chicken, and that curry sauce were just . I actually don't know which I liked more... Came here during lunchtime on Sunday, I was expecting a long wait, but it actually wasn't bad. We were seated within 5 minutes. The restaurant itself was fine, decor is okay, kind of basic. However, food is far from basic. Yes, a little on the pricey side, but once you get your meal - you'll understand why it costs that much. We got a small salmon roll order as an appetizer, Japanese Wagyu Cheese Burger (this one, we were excited to get!) and the Kata Rosu Katsu. The items took a little while to get, but they do have a disclaimer on the menu that states they need a little bit of time to prepare the katsu because its made fresh to order. However, we received the cheeseburger even after I got the katsu, so I'm not sure why the cheeseburger took that long. I wished the servers checked on you more often when you're waiting for the meal, rather than after you received it. It feels better when you know the meal is taking a while, and someone is there to reassure you that it will coming soon. I was so glad I got the Kata Rosu Katsu (the fattier pieces) Pork Shoulder Loin Cutler. It was so tender, and juicy, not dry at all! The breading was so light, and just let the meat do the talking. It came with little pickle side items, steamed rice, cabbage salad and a soup. Everything from the soup to the dressing was delicious! I'm a little sad they didn't give me the sesame to grind up, like they did to everyone around me. I'm not sure what that was about. Server just gave me the tonkatsu sauce with sesame seeds on top. I didn't get the whole experience. The burger was a whole presentation in itself! They pour the cheese fondue on the burger with sizzling plate - table side. Very cute. We just wished there was a little more cheese fondue, it was only enough for half of a burger if you want to be generous in your cheese bites. By the time my kid got to the second half, cheese was gone and the burger was a little toasted/burnt lightly from the sizzling plate and being dry with no liquid left to help. My two children, my niece and nephew, and I stopped by Ton Shou for lunch while we were in the area. After reading the positive reviews, I decided to give it a try. The restaurant itself is beautiful--dark, modern, and inviting with an upscale feel. We started by ordering several dishes, including the Yellow Yellow Roll, chicken thighs, okra, edamame, salmon sashimi, Salmon Katsu, and Tori Katsu. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We were really enjoying our meal. After my son's Salmon Katsu arrived, I decided to add a Lemon Salmon Roll and the Avocado Crispy Rice. This is where the experience changed. When I tried to place the additional order, the gentleman who brought our food was dismissive and seemed irritated before eventually coming back a few minutes later to take it. About 20 minutes later, the Avocado Crispy Rice arrived, but the Lemon Salmon Roll never did. By the time everyone else had finished eating, I asked our server about it. Since we needed to leave, I told her we could just cancel the roll. She returned and said it was already being plated and asked if I wanted it to go. In the middle of a Las Vegas summer, I didn't want raw sushi sitting in the car, so I asked her to bring it out instead. It arrived after everyone had finished eating, and I ended up eating it quickly before leaving because I was still being charged for it. I was also surprised to find an automatic gratuity added to the bill because our party had five people. Four of those five were children under 13. I couldn't find anything on the menu or website mentioning this policy, and no one informed us before we ordered. When I asked about it, I was simply told, "That's the way it is." The food was genuinely very good, which makes this review disappointing to write. Unfortunately, the service at the end of our meal overshadowed what had started as a great dining experience. I don't mind tipping--in fact, I usually tip well for good service--but having our order forgotten, being charged for a dish that arrived after we were ready to leave, and then being met with an unhelpful response about the gratuity left a bad impression. The place was already pretty full with a nice vibe, making it a pretty intimate feel, but luckily there were about 2 empty tables, so we didn't have to wait too long! We started off with some sake, extremely flavorful! And I had a Sapporo as I was thirsty from walking. We ordered the Rosu Katsu, and I believe the Roe/Uni Donburi. The Food came out quickly, and damn, did it look good! I took a bite of my Cutlet and said Oh my, this is DELICIOUSSS. I've had a set like this in Hawaii and think this is pretty similar. The sauces were superb with the Katsu, and my partner dug into the roe/uni donburi, and that gave a nice settled and mellow taste. The meal made a great alternative Pork Turf and Egg Surf combo, and David was a wonderful server! I was in China town to grab a drink for a yelp event and wanted to get some dinner if I was going to make a drive all the way out there. This has been on my list for a bit and was one of the few lunch spots I saw in the area that served a charashi bowl. Honestly most of their menu looked drool worthy, but I am trying to eat a bit healthier, so it seemed like the best option for me. The restaurant is narrow, and all the seating is lined up in a row, but they painted and decorated it in a way that it didn't just feel like a long hallway. We were sat towards the back, which was perfect because our toddler was extra lively that day and it helped us stay out of peoples way. Plus they have a fun logo light that shines on the floor and he had a blast dancing inside it to the music. We got there just before 5 and we're seated quickly, but it did fill in fast after we arrived. This is no surprise after we ended up getting our meal, which was amazing. In addition to the charashi bowl, my fiance got the chicken katsu, and we got the beef tataki to share. The charashi bowl was fresh and a good size. The katsu was super light and tender. They have you grind your sesame seeds to make your dipping sauce, lots of yummy pickled veg and a nice salad. The miso soup here is unique here. A bit more like chicken soup, very savory and comforting. The beef tataki was served with a bed of arugula and grated cheese and a sauce that was soooo addictive. My second time here, and honestly, no notes. They know what they're doing. I really love the whole setup here, especially that you get to grind your own sesame seeds and make your own sauce. Both times, the place was super busy! Ton Shou is located in Chinatown off of Spring Mountain and S Wynn Road. It's near the Chinatown Plaza. Parking can get relatively difficult in this area, especially during the evening hours. It can be really challenging to find an open spot. Sometimes, I'll have to park at the Chinatown Plaza and just walk over. Inside the restaurant was pretty cool! There were several tables available. The menu had a wide range of options from Starter: Chicken Karaage, Shishito Pepper, Portobello Fries, Crispy Rice, Scallop Cream Croquette Katsu: Rosu KAtus, Tori Katsu, Tonshou Special, Hire Katsu and more! Udon and Ramen: Tempura Udon, Tonshou Katsu Ramen, Tempura Cold Sora Sandos, Gyudon, Katsudon, Sashimi, Uni Pasta, Skewers (Pork Belly, Chicken Thigh, Okra, Shiitake, and more)! Service was great, even though it was super busy. Both times I went to Ton Shou, I had to get the Japanese Wagyu Cheese Burger. It was a Wagyu cheese burger served on a sizzling grill with creamy cheese fondue! My husband, on the second visit, got the Pork Katsu. We did order the Menchi Skewer (pork and Onion, fried) for an appetizer. The Menchi Skewer arrived at the same time my husband's received the Pork Katsu. I told him not to wait since I wasn't sure when the cheese burger was going to arrive. It did take another 15 minutes for my order, which I didn't mind waiting. I did have some bites of the Menchi Skewer and the Pork Katsu. Both were delicious! When the Wagyu Cheese Burger did arrive, it was quite the experience. This cozy and elevated Japanese spot is a place to try! My partner and I came from a tired flight and had to bring luggages and the staff was so accommodating in holding our luggage. This place was so fantastic. The service was very welcoming and everyone we encountered was friendly. We can on a Tuesday evening around 8:30pm and were able to walk in with no wait. I can't even stress enough how wonderful the food is here. Read how good this place was so I made a 5:15 reservation on a Saturday. Even though we had reserved, it still took about 15 minutes for them to have our table ready. The space is small, so I think reservations are recommended. They do have a longer bar table but unclear if it's utilized well for smaller parties. I shared the ton shou combo and the 3 choice sashimi. It was more than enough to share between the two of us. Our friend got the hire combo with curry which was also a generous portion. I recommend getting their tonkatsu -- they've really mastered the recipe. The katsu is crispy, light, and not dry at all. Probably one of the best restaurant katsu dishes I've had. The cabbage salad and dressing complement the katsu really well and add a refreshing balance. I also enjoyed the rice -- you can actually taste each grain. I also tried the mushroom fries, chicken and beef skewers, and the hamachi kama. Honestly, I'd pass on all of those and just stick to the katsu. The mushroom fries tasted mostly like batter because the mushroom slices were too thin to really have much mushroom flavor. The chicken and beef skewers were chewy and lacked flavor. As for the hamachi kama, it was way too fishy for my taste. Despite all the "recommended" tags on the menu, I personally wouldn't recommend those dishes. Come here for the katsu -- that's definitely the standout. I'd skip most of the appetizers and sides. read more

Vegas has A LOT of Japanese places to choose from but I think Ton Shou is the most authentic and closest you'll get to being in Japan! I used to think another popular spot in Vegas that I've been going for years had the best Tonkatsu but Ton Shou does it the best. I love the options of protein, salmon, chicken, different cuts of pork. The rice is some of the best rice I've had. The dressing for the salad is a great compliment. My first visit here I had to the get the Wagyu burger with the fondue. This is pretty spot on of what a burger like this would taste like in Japan. I would def recommend this and different from other burgers you can get in Vegas Apps I also tried Takoyaki - Love it, I feel like it's elevated from its street food version Ahi Crispy rice - Great texture, has a kick, and the ahi works well if it. Creamy Scallop Croquette - this is one of better croquettes in Vegas. Love how it's fried. This is one of Top 3 choices to recommend to eat as a local or to anyone visiting! With that in mind I'd recommend getting a reservation or at least getting on the waitlist as once it's gets busy it can be a long wait. read more

Best katsu place in Las Vegas! Outside was crispy with not too thick of the breading. The pork inside was tender. You get to crush your own sesame seeds for the tonkatsu sauce as well. Favorite dish was definitely the kabocha (pumpkin) and the pickled vegetables. Next time, would love to get their Vegetable set! Also the dressing/sauce that they used for the yellowtail collar was fantastic! Inside was a nice ambiance - perfect for a date or a small friend hangout. The food was wonderful! They did so many extra things to make you feel like you were in Japan. Portions were huge, and delicious! I had the pork tenderloin tonkatsu. It was tender and juicy. I also like the fact that you can participate in making your sauce. I cannot wait to go back there again! Parking was a little hard, but we found one, luckily, almost at the door. read more

Tried a place that we heard of, but never tried before, Ton Shou. It's located in China town. We came for an early dinner, about 445pm. We found parking out front, and was promptly seated. So, my tip is to come early or during off times, because there were only 2 other tables occupied when we arrived, when we left at about 545pm, the restaurant was packed! Apparently, this place is popular, and I can see why! This place is known for their tonkatsu, so I ordered the katsudon, the other entree ordered was an unagidon. Patience. They make their food to order and waiting is worth it! For the price, the portions are very fair! You get your own pot of steamed rice, some side dishes, and miso soup. Both of the entree were really good, and the katsu was super thick! Overall, the meal was great, and can't wait to return and try more items! read more

The servers are on top of it. They come to you quick and get anything requested immediately. They're very helpful and were able to answer all of our questions. The food is delicious. The chicken katsu was super tender and cooked perfectly. All the skewers were also cooked perfectly and were soft and juicy and not at all dried out. The shrimp lollipops were really good and super full of shrimp. Gyoza were well flavored and cooked to perfection. The scallop croquette thing was not my favorite. It didn't taste much like scallop but it wasn't bad, it was mostly just fried cream. read more

Food was absolutely delicious. Maybe I'm being a little dramatic? The Japanese wagyu cheeseburger has so much flavor and cooked perfectly. The lollipop crispy shrimp was crispy, I could have ate 10. The spicy ramen had all the flavor. The pork belly skewer was everything I was hoping. I loved the ambiance here. Nice cozy and dark. Nana was our server and she checked on us often. She made some of the recommendations and was spot on. Finished tonight off with the Japanese cheesecake. Definitely coming back here soon. read more

I made a return visit to Ton Shou Katsu & Izakaya, located in Chinatown at The Center at Spring Mountain near Wynn. It's nice they open late! Inside is cozy and lively with good seating for a table and by the bar. Music is awesome! They have a great playlist by Bob Moses, the songs are fantastic, fun vibe, and relaxing atmosphere. Menu offers a nice selection of starter, carpaccio, oyster, Katsu, donburi, sando, udon and ramen, as well as sashimi, mikizushi roll, special roll, nigiri, chef's special, grill, and skewers. For refreshments, they have highball, hot sake, flavored sake, nigori, premium Japanese beer, red wine, white wine, Japanese soda, Japanese iced tea, hot tea, soft drink, and juice. I ordered Kabocha Katsu Bite ($11), tasty and very good! It's crispy breaded Kabocha squash bites, lightly fried and served golden with tartare sauce. Also tried Tonshou Crunch Roll ($19), it's chef's special sushi roll, inside has black tiger shrimp tempura with tamago, kani stick, ginger, cabbage, pickled radish, outside has panko crunch, served with sando and katsu sauce. For dessert, you can ask what's available. It's not listed on the menu but they have mochi, cheesecake, and ice cream. I chose Matcha Green Tea Cheesecake ($8), it's imported from Japan, plated with powdered sugar and rich chocolate drizzle. Also had Ube ice cream ($2.95), which nicely pairs with Matcha Green Tea Cheesecake, ice cream is velvety smooth, has a lovely sweetness, and fantastic Ube flavor, so YUM!
