Revisited here recently for dinner; and what an amazing experience! LOVED how dainty, but filling the appetizers were - Japanese pumpkin katsu & scallop katsu! Both apps were FRESH & delicious! I am usually not a dark chicken meat eater; however, wanted to try the organic chicken katsu set. I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious my food was. Even the salad dressing was marvelous (tasted like shallot, miso, etc.). My hubby absolutely loved his Black Line pork katsu. This katsu is one of THE BEST I've ever had. And I've spent more than 3 months in Japan. If you're here, you probably came for the katsu and you should definitely get the most popular combo. I legit forgot what it was but just the standard one was absolutely breathtaking. I didn't try any of the other stuff and I'm sure it's also amazing too but honestly whenever I come back here I'm probably just going to get the same thing lol. It can get really busy and they also close for lunch time so yeah just be prepared for that lol. I'm transplant from NYC and I've been spoiled by really great Japanese options in the city. I was looking for a wonderful katsu place and boy did I find it! Katsu Ya Ton Ton is excellent. I made plans to meet a friend for lunch and wanted to try this place. Easy access from Durango just North of Warm Springs on the West side of the street. Ample parking, but the place itself (you can see from the photos) isn't large and they don't take reservations. We aimed to be there for 12:30P lunch figuring we'd just be the lunch crowd. I arrived a little early and they were already full up! The place is popular and with good reason. I added our part of 2 to the list and we waited maybe 10 minutes. So cute and authentic inside. Tables turned over fairly quickly. The staff is super friendly and efficient. They were there to guide and help us with menu choices and offer recommendations. I went with the pork katsu set that included soup, rice, piles of shredded cabbage, my main pork cutlet, and some pickles. The cabbage and soup is AYCE which was a nice offering though I didn't need it. I also got salmon poke with yuzu which was tart and so fresh. Recommended. My lunch date order Katsu Chicken Curry. The food is outstanding. Every bite elicited a "Mmm" from me as the soup broth was deep and savory. The pork was perfectly cooked, crispy outside, juicy and tender on the inside. Only really noticeable if you're strict about how well the wagyu is cooked. For the general folks, it is really delicious. The portion size is big! Part of me wants to gatekeep this place, but they deserve the recognition! Ton Ton Katsuya has been consistently good every time I've visited. For $16 it's a tiny chicken strip cut into 5 even smaller pieces and the breading is thick and it was not crispy at all. The stuffed mushrooms in the plastic containers that were sitting upfront had become soggy from the steam from when it was made and was obviously not fresh. Not sure how long they've been sitting out but I should have known better. It was cold. It was surprisingly the best thing out of everything we ordered. The cold, soggy fried mushrooms. :\ The chicken in the karaage bento was either undercooked or straight up raw (see picture)...whatever it was it's inedible. Made my husband's stomach hurt. I love a katsu spot where you get to grind your own sesame seeds to make your own katsu sauce. It's part of the experience! The nutty smell of freshly-ground sesame seeds make me hungry and more excited for my food. The breadcrumbs they use aren't the hard crunchy panko breadcrumbs you can buy from the store. Theirs is lighter and more delicate. And it doesn't matter what protein you pick because they're all great. I've tried their oysters, chicken katsu and pork katsu. I had a chicken katsu kick for a long time. Right now, I'm on a pork katsu kick. Came here about 2 months ago while in Vegas for a concert; what ended up as a restaurant we picked on a whim after a long day of driving ended up being one of the best food experiences I have had as of late. Katsu Ya Ton Ton is a quaint little restaurant, with an interior that is decorated similarly to a lot modern Japanese restaurants we saw during our recent vacation in Tokyo: tables situated in close quarters but separated by bamboo/wood barriers, open kitchen in view of patrons, and plate samples right at the front showing off what you can expect from the menu. The wait staff quickly got us seated and waters for the table in an efficient manner and gave us the comically large (in physical size) menus. Once we ordered, they quickly brought out one of the most memorable items from this dinner. They gave us some containers with katsu sauce and some whole sesame with a pestle to grind it up. Then they told us to pour over some of the sauce and it accompanied our katsu incredibly well. For four people, we got two katsu platters and two appetizers. The pumpkin katsu was nice and earthy, similar to like a taro or potato but sweeter. The jumbo scallop katsu was incredible; one of the single best fried foods I have had. The scallops were bouncy and delicious and melted in my mouth. Both the pork loin and chicken katsu platters came with salad (with really good dressing), rice, miso soup. The chicken was really good but that pork loin was so memorable. Incredible fattiness and umami paired with that great katsu sauce. Eating here was such a fun time with great food and service that started off our trip really well. The servers are really blunt and on top of things which I could see some people finding it off putting but I thought it kept the restaurant moving. The restaurant itself is casual and on the smaller side. There is a parking lot for easy parking. We got there on a Saturday around 1 PM and waited 20 minutes on the bench outside. Once seated, they have a GIANT wooden menu that you can rotate. We tried the katsu scallop appetizer, the seafood katsu set, and the pork tenderloin set. Everything was cooked perfectly so that it was juicy in the inside and crispy on the outside. My standouts her were all the condiments that it came with. I LOVED the tar tar mayo sauce that had hard boiled eggs that came with the seafood set. The wasabi and plum salt that came with the appetizer was so good, I dipped everything in it. You also get to grind I believe they are sesame seeds and out katsu sauce in it. You can upgrade your miso soup to have clams in it and they actually give you a good amount of clams. We arrived around 6:00 pm and had to wait (in our car, since the waiting area is small) a little over an hour to be seated on a Sunday night. We complained to each other the whole wait, but we decided to stick it out since it was a special occasion and we had our hearts set on this restaurant. Once our appetizer of Sweet Japanese Fried Pumpkin (4 pieces, $6) with homemade tartar sauce came out, we stopped talking. Omg. Melt‑in‑your‑mouth YUMMINESS. We also ordered two pieces of Fried Zucchini ($3.25 each) and Fried Eringi (mushroom, $3.50 each). The zucchini was magnificent, but the mushroom was tough to bite through and we didn't care for the flavor. For our main courses, we each got the specials. I ordered the Rosu Katsu Set ($21), and my husband got the thicker cut, the Atsugiri Katsu Set ($23). Both were beautifully breaded in the tastiest panko crumbs, and the meats were lean with just a little edge of fat. The sets included a heaping portion of their famous shredded cabbage, perfectly cooked Japanese rice, and hot, incredibly savory miso soup. One of our favorite things about this restaurant is getting to make our own katsu sauce blend. Each guest gets a small bowl of toasted sesame seeds to grind (until about 80% crushed), then mix with the Tonkatsu sauce on the table. The end result is heavenly. Another visit!! And they never failed!! As we went 11:40am on weekday, although almost full, we were seated quickly. And my usual "Hitokuchi Hirekatsu Teishoku" Pork Tenderloin Katsu Set I ordered. Love their orighnal sause. although there's sesame dressing for Cabbage, always put that sause to Cabbage!! The Katsu was outside Crispy inside juicy and soft enough to eat without cutting! I shared a meal with another person but the portion size is definitely good for the average individual. Super yummy and definitely worth a try!! I love coming here and it's so good to get everything here. They perfectly cook the katsu with a different vartiety of meats to try. I love grinding the fresh sesame seeds for your sauce and really gets your wrist working!! The service here is great and the waitresses are so sweet with a big smile on their faces. The food does come out fairly fast in about 10-15 min. The restaurant is small and don't really recommend for groups bigger than 4 people. If you are on the fence about trying this restaurant, go! My husband and I saw them on a food show, and visited when we were in Vegas. It is such a unique and interesting restaurant and really the whole process in general. You are given some sesame seeds to grind up and sauce to mix it with while you are waiting for the food. The katau was hot, fresh and cooked perfectly. We have tried the chicken, pork, meatballs, and pumpkin. The pumpkin is surprisingly delicious, really a standout. The pork and chicken were great. A friend of a friend recommended this place. As we had some other plans during the day and ended up eating dinner late, we ordered take out. Most of us ordered the pork tenderloin katsu, while one ordered the thick cut pork loin katsu. Everyone was very happy with their choices. The katsu was tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. There was also pickled cucumber (which I thought initially was pumpkin due to the color), that provided nice salty/refreshing contrast as well too. Each set came with soup and salad as well too. The cabbage paired well with the sauce, and provided a good light contrast to the katsu. The rice portion is pretty large (most of us barely touched the rice). We also shared the pumpkin katsu, which was delicious as well. Can't say much about the service for inside the restaurant, but their take out was very efficient! This place is a chain with multiple convenient locations. Great food!! Place inside is a little small but it works. They have a lot of snacks you can buy on the side too.
