Izakaya Shun is located on Maryland and Tropicana near Harmon. You'll find them at Runnin' Rebel Plaza near Lefty J's Island Favorites. There's plenty of parking. Inside is spacious, inviting, beautifully decorated with cherry blossoms, Japanese lanterns, and wall drawings of the menu, there's plenty of seating and relaxing music. Menu offers a nice selection of charcoal grilled such as A5 wagyu, yakitori beef, chicken, pork, kurobuta sausage, as well as quick bites, appetizers, carpaccio, special roll, sashimi, chirashi bowl, ramen, donburi, and desserts. For refreshments, they have sake, draft beer sapporo, shochu (traditional Japanese distilled spirit), chu-hi, soft drinks, plum wine, wine, and champagne. I ordered quick bites for Japanese Pickles ($5.80) and Cold Tofu ($4.80). Cold Tofu is simple, topped with chopped green onions, ginger, and bonito flakes. Japanese Pickles is light and tasty, has yellow pickled radish (daikon), cucumbers, seaweed, and cabbage. I tried a small appetizer for Shrimp Tempura ($8.80) and request mayonnaise on the side. Shrimp is fried golden crispy, served over mixed greens with tomatoes, and the mayo is a great dipping sauce. For dessert, they have waffles for Berry Berry, Matcha Anko, and Choco Banana, including ice cream and mochi. I love Warabi Mochi ($3.98), it's Japanese Jelly Sweets served as six pieces, the texture is delightful, soft, chewy, bouncy, and so yummy with brown sugar syrup. Japanese Ice Cream ($3.98) is good too! Instead of Vanilla, I asked for Matcha Ice Cream, and they are nice to accommodate. Matcha ice cream is creamy, sprinkled with kinako powder, and has a wonderful sweetness from brown sugar syrup, it's really good! Service from Momo and Jasmine is so kind, welcoming, attentive, accommodating, and friendly! There were a couple of birthday parties. They have additional seating in the back, you can bring a cake and they'll light the candles for you, and play a lovely Happy Birthday song, it's very cool! read more

There's writings on the wall which just makes it feel even more like an izakaya. Came here after watching the Mortal Kombat movie was looking for something that was close to the house and stumbled upon this restaurant We were greeted and sat right away. They had a lot of options. We weren't really sure what to get. We decided to get the steak sampler which was the highlight. It was absolutely delicious. We got some chicken karage which was good. When I'm in Vegas, I always wanna try great Izakaya places and came upon this new place. Wow, what a great find for a new place off the strip. As soon as we walked in, we greeted nicely and got seated right away. Looking through the menu, they have different kind of choices and also they put some special menu on the wall as well, very Tokyo style. Everything that we had was so umami. The tebasaki is a winner, we had to order twice. It's very crispy and juicy on the inside, not dry or overly fried as well. We originally were going to eat at chipotle when we stumbled upon this restaurant. Great food, good service, and reasonably priced. The ramen was $18.80, the karaage mayo bowl was $9.80, and the wagyu was $20.80 and let me tell you it was worth every penny. The wagyu was my favorite as the meat just melts in your mouth. The karaage was also really good very flavorful and crispy. My family prefers the ramen broth to be a little more rich but it was okay. You'd definitely be missing out if you decide to "shun" them. Izakaya Shun is a new Japanese restaurant that appears to be from the same folks who brought Ramen Ebisu to Henderson. Still on the east side but in the vicinity of UNLV, this new spot seats more people and has much less ramen, but more grilled skewers and apps and such. Cold Tofu ($3.80): very soft, topped with a decent amount of bonito and green onion, served w/ a sauce that doesn't really get soaked up by the tofu. Pretty good rendition though. Yellowtail Carpaccio ($11.80): looks like they must have found a sale on red onion and green onion at the local supermarket. Those toppings really drowned out the yellowtail, which was not bad when I got a taste. Wagyu skewer ($7.80): fat bomb on a skewer. The salt was a bit heavy-handed though. Tsukune w/ Tare ($2.80): tender and loose meatballs. The sauce was relatively rich, but the sauce portion was a bit low. Tsukune w/ Ume Shiso ($2.80): same meatballs, but more prominent flavor between the plum and the fragrant herb. Chicken Thigh w/ Salt ($2.80): the most straightforward and best of the thighs I tried tonight. The meat was juicy, but as with the other skewers, the binchotan was subtle if not absent. Chicken Thigh w/ Oroshi and Ponzu ($2.80): possibly a little blander simply because it's topped with a bunch of minced radish. Chicken Thigh w/ Wasabi ($2.80): maybe not the best topping since it's so potent and hard to balance, but I appreciated the variety. Grilled Stingray Fin ($5.80): a surprise since I've never tried it, but it tasted like some of the dried squid often sold in Asian supermarkets. It was also chewy but softer than those dehydrated proteins typically are. The lemon and the mayo sauce helped to temper some of the intense flavors here. I do think at least a few of the pieces were tough. Matcha Anko Waffle ($9.80): an actual showstopper dessert. Tasty liege waffle base, great matcha ice cream, delicious red bean, and soft chewy mochi served with a smoky molasses-like syrup. Every bit of it was lovely. Service was mostly solid, although they forgot about our check for a while at the end. Music seemed pretty Japanese and was lively but approachable. There was plenty of lighting, so I was able to appreciate all the food visually. I liked Izakaya Shun overall. The dessert was definitely the best part, and everything was affordable. Our first time visiting Izakaya Shun was amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed the food, ambiance and service! We ordered a LOT of food for two but it was worth it! We tried the chicken thigh with plum and shiso leaf, negima, prok belly with plum and shiso leaf and eggplant. All were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Next up, we ordered cold tofu, cucumber with miso dip, kimchi assortment and takowasa. These are some of our very favorite traditional Japanese dishes and we were very happy with the preparation and taste. We also shared the negi hama cut roll and the natto daikon roll. Both were great and perfect tiny bites to accompany our meal. We ordered the chicken karaage with the negi sauce that our server recommended. It was so ono! The karaage was cooked perfectly! Super crispy and moist inside and the negi sauce was amazing. Overall, we had an awesome time at Izakaya Shun. The restaurant is super clean and nicely decorated in a traditional Japanese vibe. Anyhow, I am always looking and happily found Izakaya Shun near UNLV and was really happy with the food options! They have a great selection of cold and hot appetizers/small plates, donburi (rice bowls). Options also include carpaccios - so you can still get that fix when craving a little raw fish, and a ramen - if you need soup! I got the level 3 out of 5 for spicy. Just enough heat to scare you, but keep you comming back for more. Incredibly rich broth. My local spot back home served a rich, sticky koterri that was very similar. This is as close as can be to my long lost favorite. Pork belly has a great smokey, grilled flavor. My first impression was, "A local spot with an expansive yakitori menu off the Strip." A hidden gem near UNLV, the interior of the restaurant was a nice surprise. Super cute decor with hand drawn menu items on the wall. The yakitori was perfectly smoked, some of our favorites that we tried were the salted chicken hearts, chicken thigh with white onion, and shiitake mushrooms. We also had the beef tongue which was tender and cooked well, and generously portioned. Some unique flavors were discovered in the Japanese Tebasaki Chicken Wings and the Miso Ramen.
