I've been shopping at this top tomato location since they opened ( prior was a pet store ). During the holidays I've purchased persimmons And bananas as well as two packs of steaks. All of the above were rotten within 2 days of purchase. I've called the store and spoke to a manager who more or less told me I can not return / exchange any of the products due to not having my receipt. The streaks clearly have top tomato's information on the package. Very disappointed with the response I got when all I wanted was a good product for the holidays. Questioning weather I will shop there again. What happened to the customer being right In this world. I have better things to do then to waste my time. But others should be aware of the customer service that is given from this location. read more

I used to really love shopping here. It is close to my home and their selection of meat and produce is very good. However, there were a few little issues that has now made me decide to not return to this store. 1. Sour milk that I just purchased (which in all fairness can happen any where) 2. The produce is under attack of fruit flies and other types of insects. Gross! 3. Price discrepancy at the check out. The cashier was very rude to me and said, "This is the price. Do you want it or not?" Customer service takes a back seat in this place! I definitely agree with an earlier post that this place has a thug atmosphere. Hit or miss. I recently bought the best honeydew ever at this location but s week later another honeydew was awful. I won't touch the prepared food. I had buzzard meat for chicken Francese and dour ricotta in the eggplant rollatini. The pasta dishes always look dry with minimal sauce and the same price as the meat dishes us absurd. I won't buy beef or pork there as its always old. I did have a delicious chocolate cake at a very reasonable price and I get some good prices on produce. The Sicilian rice balls are horrible but the prosciutto balls are good despite the high cost. There store made cold cuts are not good and the other brands are never s good price. So some things are good and some you should avoid. read more

Too small, overpriced and dirty looking.

Their meats are always good & I like their deli section. The fish is hit or miss. I don't really care for their produce and the actual aisles are pretty small. The parking lot is pretty tight also. The prices are fair, but definitely try their patties and marinated meats-you won't be disappointed! The deli has a great selection of salads and foccacias, so it's always a good place to pick up something quick. read more

Deli section is quite good and very popular. Nice ambiance in the store. The Italian section has some great store made selections like focaccia, chicken parm, mozzerella, and seafood salad. has a fish market too with sales sometimes. The sausage is good too. Parking sometimes can be a hassle. read more

I have to say I really like this place everything is fresh and clean. The only problem I have is that they use the same machines to cut cheese and meats with out cleaning. But I guess u can't have everyrhing. Love the fact that they price match the produce really saves time. read more

I've gotten fruit from this location many times to press fresh squeezed juices. The shelf life is a day at best when you bring it home. Good for juicing when using it that day but doesn't last at all. Produce rots and molds very fast because they freeze it. I've returned multiple items and to be honest I'm tired of taking bread, shallots, veggies back. I'll shop elsewhere and pay more for better quality. read more

The prices can't be beat as far as produce. The deli counter is reasonable, and their homemade deli meats can rival Boars Head. The aisles are insanely small, but I'm always in and out fairly quickly. Fresh breads are also delicious there. Super soft with a crispy crust. read more

I went in today I did not hear, I'm assuming it was the manager his name was Ceaser, tell me to go to another register cause he was closing it and he was rude and said very loudly that I was deaf my head was down and was not paying attention. I used to go to Top Tomato for everything. The prices have gotten outrageous and just today i got a pickle which used to be 99 cents, today they gave half of a pickle for a dollar seventy five. The management here is rude and abrupt and I don't appreciate getting such little food for the prices that they have been charging. this top tomatoe is the worst i have ever been too. the workers in the deli area are not courteous at all they seem bothered when you ask them for the prepared food or the cold cuts. the prepared food is so dry will never buy again/ or waste my time to go there again. the catering is horrible when they deliver the trays look horrible all crushed there's oil dripping all over the place that when they dropped it off on my counter the oil was so thick that even if you try to clean it, it doesn't wipe off its discusting! the store is very diry and small and the produce is not great either you have to eat it with in that day because your already buying it rotten. i gave it one star too bad it doesn't have negative stars! read more

Earlier today I was at this location and was appalled at the behavior of what seemed be a manager. The store was very busy and all of the lines were long. I waited on line to purchase my items and I was behind an elderly gentleman. As he was looking for his money, a man (presumably a manager dressed in a light blue top tomato shirt) came by the rear of the counter and told the cashier to ring up this lady (standing next to him) for her salad. Aside from the fact that it was rude to me and all of the other customers waiting on line, this man seemed to be doing this as a favor to a friend because the woman went on asking about his family etc. I would not have minded her cutting the whole line if she had previously waited and there was an issue causing her to come back but no. I'm just as valuable as a customer and my time is important to, yet I still waited on line. There was no special treatment for me. The man did not say sorry to me, neither did the cashier. Why should I have to wait longer? This was not the most appalling issue though. The gentleman that was paying in front of me handed the cashier $15, to which she replied it was $15.63. He said I think I have the change. As he emptied his pocket, the man in the light blue shirt said "hurry up, I have people waiting." Yes you do have people waiting! On every line, which you think is okay to cut to do a favor for one, and this elderly gentleman waited on that same line!! Allow him to time to find his money. How rude! His money is good enough but only if he gets it fast enough?! Seriously disgusted over this experience. I worked at local small business for 8 years and I try to shop at local businesses to support them. They are supposed to give great service and value their community members. Not here. I ordered a 4-ft. chicken cutlet hero that came with 2-lbs each of commercial potato, macaroni and coleslaw salads for a backyard party from Top Tomato in Great Kills. I was given the option to pay an extra $10 if I wanted home-made salads rather than the commercial, and decided to go for it (big mistake!). It was a pick-up order on a Sunday, which to my convenience, allowed me to pick it up between 6 - 7pm. I liked the idea that it included the plates, and that the utensils came in a sealed package with salt & pepper included. The chicken cutlet hero with fresh mozzarella & roasted peppers tasted good even though it had no dressing and was a little on the dry side. However, the home-made sides of the pasta, potato salads and coleslaw were a huge disappointment! I don't know who made these salads, but don't they do a taste test first??? Fire that chef please; flavorless and horrible tasting - didn't even taste like there was mayo in there - don't know what the hell they used. The potato salad was also spiced with hot pepper - really??? My mother tried to salvage what she could and rinsed them all out and put in our own mayo and noticed that some of the potatoes were rotten! We wound up throwing it all out. read more
