Topo is so much fun! An awesome roadside walk-up window to get burritos and ice cream. We had the Topo Burrito, Topo Loco, and Vanilla Soft Serve dipped in Chocolate. The burritos were a bit spicy, so the ice cream was a perfect way to cool off after. The tortillas were great quality and so was the meat. They have a few tables for outdoor seating and walking around Gilbert's Heritage District was so much fun. Feels like another town entirely! Topo doesn't look like much but it's really good! It's not authentic burritos but they were still yummy. We love taking out out of town visitors here to try the prickly pear soft serve. I personally only like it mixed with the vanilla. The seating is outdoor in the area behind it. read more

Prickly pear/vanilla twist was phenomenal! Next time we will do the lime dip! Perfect sweet/tart combo. Very reasonably priced.

They should be selling this at diamondback games and at every festival. People should know Arizona for our prickly pear soft serve dipped in lime shell. Tart and creamy and completely worth it. The burrito wasn't anything special for how expensive it was. It's hard to stand out in Arizona with a mediocre burrito. I will definitely be back for the soft serve. We stopped by here after having dinner from across the street and seeing people were leaving with soft serve ice cream. They did not have the prickly pear one and they only had vanilla flavor. So I got a vanilla cone dipped in chocolate, it was pretty good. I think they serve other food as well but I have never ordered anything other than the soft serve. They typically have a line outside but it goes quickly. There is only outdoor seating as you grab your food at the window and sit down. read more

CREDIT CARD ONLY. They do not accept cash. This place is very cute! It is most famous for being a small stand with a giant gopher on top. The gopher's wearing a cute hat and looks like a park ranger. His eyes light up at night. It is quirky and makes Gilbert more unique and memorable. I tried the prickly pear soft served ice cream. Their soft serve options were vanilla, prickly pear, or twist of the two of them. You then had the option to add a hard shell. My niece got the vanilla ice cream with a lime hard shell. They have around 3 outdoor tables that seats 8 people each. It is covered by an umbrella. They also have other menu items like burritos. Topo is another offering from the Joe's family of restaurants (Joe's Real BBQ, Joe's Farm Grill, Liberty Market), so I sort of knew what I was getting in to - solid food at a decent price point - and that's exactly what I got. It wouldn't be the first restaurant on my list, but I wouldn't object too much if I was in the area. We got a sampling of everything (chicken topo loco, pork topo, elote, prickly pear ice cream with lime dip) so we could get a good feel of the menu. I didn't like the pork in the burrito as it tasted too BBQ-y (a cart was roaming between Joe's Real BBQ and Topo as we sat and ate, so it's a good guess that this is the reason why), but the chicken topo loco was good. I enjoyed the contrast of the crunchy fritos and the creaminess of the elote in the topo loco, so I would opt for that over the regular topo. The elote cup was a little expensive, but tasted good and paired well as a side to the regular topo. The prickly pear ice cream was flavorful as was the lime dip, but it just wasn't my thing. YMMV. I would avoid coming here in the summer, as it's just a stand and the seating is outdoors. Even in April, the weather started to drain on us as we were finishing up our piping hot burritos, so I can't imagine how it is in the dead of summer. I also found it odd that there were no trash cans in the courtyard. I noted as we were eating that there were quite a few tables who just left trash on the table, but after we were finished I held our trash until we got to the parking lot and realized why that was the case. read more

Man I love ice cream and soft serve yogurt even better. What a unique little (and I mean little) place. I have the feeling this has been a Gilbert, AZ favorite for some time. Right on the sidewalk! You order your food; tacos, drinks and soft serve yogurt. I got a Twist that was vanilla on one side and prickly pear on the other! It's situated in front of an outdoor seating area with clean restrooms and a small lawn area and even though it was the middle of the hot desert summer, evenings are not bad as there is shading. I need to take a moment to say, "Well done Gilbert, Arizona!" The town has all the cool places from Phoenix but satellites along a one mile stretch of the main road through town. I made quite a trek out to Gilbert to try the prickly pear ice cream. Let me tell you, Topo's instagram account is on fire! In fact, it was all the photos I've seen on instagram that led me to put Topo on my bucket list. And that says a lot because there aren't many places in the surrounding area I would go out of my way to visit. After standing in front of the shop for about five minutes, trying to figure out whether the gopher's eyes actually light up (or whether it was just my imagination), I ordered the prickly pear soft serve. Like other yelpers had mentioned, it tasted a little too sweet and immediately wished I would have gotten the combination of prickly pair and vanilla to dull out the flavor. Topo is a charming little roadside snack shack addition to Joe's BBQ with quick friendly service and a simple menu. The ambiance is family friendly, with outdoor benches and tables on either side. It shares outdoor seating as well with Joe's BBQ. So we sat close to the newly installed swings. We weren't that hungry so my husband & I split the El Topo Loco with pork. I asked if it is the same pork from Joe's & they confirmed it was but has it's own different sauce. The burrito was jam packed with juicy savory meat, with a hint of heat. They don't serve cups of water, but we were able to just go into to the adjacent Joe's & get our water. Our kids split a Topo. But because they didn't want meat I asked for a bean & cheese but with the meat on the side. I didn't see it on the menu, but it was nice to learn we could just order a bean & cheese burrito for $5. My girls both loved it. The tortillas on both burritos were nice and soft, tasted fresh. Side note: My girls wanted to try the pork from our Topo Loco & loves it too! I'm only rating Topo at 4 out of 5 stars because I've only tried the Prickly Bear ice cream. Location: This place just opened up in Old Town Gilbert. It is owned by Joe's BBQ. It is right next to Joe's BBQ. If you find Joe's bbq, you'll see this place. Just to the north of Wiskey Row. Menu: Topo has both dessert (ice cream cones) and food. I've only tried their soft serve ice cream. It was just ok. Needed more flavor. Price: Price is $2.50 for a soft serve ice cream which is fair for the flavor. What I really like about this place is where it's located and the vibe it adds to old town Gilbert. They have a really cool looking beaver sitting at the top of their building. I like that after you have dinner somewhere, or lunch, you can just walk up to this building and order ice cream. When we went their was a long line but that's probably because it is a new place and everyone wants to try them out. read more

Visited on their first day open and this place is awesome! My favorite is the topo loco burrito with pork. It's got a kick to it, so beware if you're sensitive to HEAT! Love the twist cone with vanilla and prickly pear dipped in lime! The lime dip is on point and totally adds zest to the cone. Oh and I almost forgot, THE ELOTE. Creamy, spicy corn with little bits of cilantro. I could eat it by the bucket! Beautiful park area to sit and eat with chair hammocks and twister for the adventurous-at-heart. This is a newly opened walk up on the Joe's Real BBQ property. They have a limited menu that's delicious and fast. Mexican. They take cards only, no cash (for security reasons). There's plenty of outdoor seating (and shade) in the surrounding patio area. We had the Topo pork burrito (delicious!) and then came back for their soft serve pricklypear ice cream cone. Ordered the pork Topo burrito and the pork Topo loco burrito. The pork itself is Smokey tasting. I wonder if it's the bbq pork from Joes BBQ. The Topo burrito was good. But personally I felt it was a little pricey for the $7. It's a good size, but I know I can get one of equal size elsewhere for cheaper. BUT the Topo Loco burrito was great. I believe this is worth the $8.50. This burrito is PACKED with extras and is worth the extra 1.50 I am glad that Joe has added Elote con chili to the menu and can not wait to give that a try. I would absolutely go back and recommend Topo, I would just suggest getting the Topo Loco instead of the standard burrito. read more

A giant, cowboy hat wearing gopher. Right smack dab on the tippy top of the TOPO establishment. It seems to attract a lot of selfies and gazes- which definitely works to drive word of mouth buzz. Built seemingly overnight late in 2019 this cool little "roadside attraction" offers simple to go burritos and soft serve. There are a few shaded tables nearby but I feel like TOPO intends for you to eat and enjoy as you walk the Gilbert downtown sidewalks. The burritos sound amazing from reading the menu. They are of decent size, wrapped in foil to keep them hot on the go. Unfortunately I had just scarfed down a lunch in the square and was mostly interested in what "soft serve" was offered as it was spelled down one side of the building. This is a simple 2 flavor setup. Vanilla, Prickly Pear or a twist (both flavors swirled together). There are dips as well like a chocolate dip. $3 for a large cone serving. I went with the twist and it was amazing. Smooth texture and awesome flavor. In the 15 minutes I spent standing around enjoying my cone I watched at least a dozen people either taking pics of the massive gopher on top of the building or walking up to place an order. Watched one girl get a vanilla cone dipped in chocolate. That will be my next go. Didn't get the chance to order a burrito but I WILL be back. The Topo Loco sounded amazing. Oh yeh the elote also looked super delicious. Prices are very reasonable. Process is easy-- it's a walk up to place the order. No cash, e-payments only. So bring that credit card or have your Apple Pay ready! Dude that served my cone was cool. Overall a great and unique addition to the Gilbert downtown. It's between a coffee house and Joe's BBQ.
