I've been coming to this Tops location since I was a kid and the quality has gone down drastically! (My last review was 11 years ago and it was a positive one!)Today's experience really broke the camel's back. The last few times I ate here were abysmal, but I thought it might be a fluke until today. I usually order a burger and chili fries, which used to be great, but the last few times have been absolutely gross. The meat was GRAY, and everything on the burger tasted stale and disgusting. This was the same experience the last five times I ate there. Today, I decided to get the Tostada salad which is another item I usually get. I usually get it with their ranch dressing (which is good, but watery) but this time I forgot and got the Caesar. They gave me one tiny packet for this rather big salad and it happened to be EXPIRED! Not recently expired, expired by 3 months... I get it, I should not eat out that often, but trying to make me lose weight from food poisoning is not nice! My dad likes their fries and Pastrami sandwich and since it's nearby I visit often to get it for him. Next time I'm going to go the extra mile and drive to The Hat on Lake which is a hundred times better. And they don't charge you extra for paying with card. read more

I came here for lunch. Purchased a gyro and fries and drove back to my office. I only ate the fries and about 10 minutes later I was vomiting all over myself and had to leave work. I don't eat fast food a lot but Tops is always good. A Pasadena gem for sure. Very good quality food and it tastes very delicious! I always order the fish burger with only ketchup and cheese. It's always very fresh and hot. My friend ordered the bacon and avocado burger and it looked quite scrumptious. This is definitely somewhere you can go after a game to have good food, breakfast or lunch. The service is always good and they make sure your order is right. I've never really had my order messed up here. The ambiance is not to fancy nor modern. They can go for upgrades and better seating furniture, but I guess they like that original look. However, it's pretty spacious Inside with plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. The parking is pretty small but it's parking available. But most importantly, the pastrami meat was tender, juicy, and full of excellent flavor. Having tried the two iconic pastrami spots Langer's near MacArthur Park and Katz in NYC each twice, I think that although the pastrami meat here is different and might not be on their level, the taste and flavor of the pastrami meat here comes quite close to these two iconic spots. I've been eating at this tops alone and with friends since it opened. It has many of its original employees. I recently left California for a few months and returned today. Tops was the first place I stopped for lunch. My favorite is the Bacon and Avocados Burger, with a box of fries and ranch dip. Before I left, I was talking with an employee and asked if they had ever considered making nachos since they pretty much already had all the ingredients for other meals. I went back in two weeks or so later and they had introduced three different nacho meals. Asada, Chicken and plain nachos. I am a nachos fanatic, so I am really glad they took it to heart. I only wish they would put some refried beans with them. Maybe they will later. I also love their breakfast burritos - bacon and sausage with their amazing green sauce. Had one for breakfast the morning I left California. I used to live a few block away until recently. Unfortunately, I will probably not be close enough to eat here anymore on a regular basis. I think the only thing I do not like is that when they take an order through the drive through, they have often over charged me despite telling them I was paying with cash. They charge a fee if you pay with a credit or debit card, and seem to assume that is how you are going to pay. I've been coming to Tops for decades. They have a varied menu that has options for every appetite/palette. My go-tos are their breakfast burritos, pastrami-everything, and all the sides fries, zucchini & onion rings. I really wish they would move away from canola oil and towards a healthier option like beef tallow. The meal is sometimes isn't worth the pain and discomfort trying to digest all that nasty oil. My Experience at Tops Burgers, was a great experience. I hate going out spending money on food that is trash; and I second guess myself saying I should've eaten at home. I was looking for a good pastrami burger. Well I'm here to tell you the pastrami was lean favorable with the burger being spot on. It was juicy bursting with flavor. Service was good also. I got there 20 mins before it closed. The food was still fresh and hot. 4 stars because the fries were fresh but had very little salt for me; and I was on the road I could not get any salt. The California chili spaghetti was fulfilling but not quite as good as the original Cincinnati chili of which it is a copy cat. Tops is in the regular rotation cuz my bf LOVES burgers and fries. Parking is easy and we usually order at the counter. This location charges for credit card (~3-4%) so I usually have cash handy. Service is ok, we haven't had any bad interactions necessarily but they have mixed up our orders from time to time. My bf usually orders a 1/2 lb cheeseburger with no pickles and I usually do the hamburger with no onion and they've mixed up where I got no pickle and he got no onion. I feel like the workers don't really listen that closely. Burgers are good, I wouldn't say it's the best ever but definitely hits the spot. But we definitely come for the amount of fries (or onion rings or sweet potato fries or fried zucchini) that we get for a "small" order. We usually get to go so I can't speak for the dine in experience but it's pretty clean inside. It's not gourmet or trendy just a simple burger joint when you want something that will fill you up.
