I hate to say it, but I was disappointed with my order. Since it is Lent, I decided to order fish and chips with extra tarter sauce. The order was complete but the fish and chips were over fried. The three pieces of fish were small and over cooked, so it was dry. The tarter sauce was quite tasty and saved the meal. Too many fries, and would rather have more coleslaw. The coleslaw was good too. This is fish Friday season , so I hope my meal will be better next time. read more

Tops deserves an update. I say my bf and I come to this location at least 2-3x a month. Totally healthy, right? ... It's just that damn delicious! I usually order the tostada salad with carne asada. Went here for chili cheese fries, (to be honest, something I'm not generally a fan of) and discovered for a coupla bucks you can have some beautiful piles of pastrami lopped on top of those babies. Lesson learned... piles of pastrami take chile cheese fries to a whole new level. The hot pastrami on top of all that cheese makes everything melt beautifully together and the fries are just right to stay crispy even underneath all that goopy cheese and chili. Oh, the chili. Good flavor and a nice bit of spice thanks to the chunks of green chile you'll find throughout. If you like it hot (I do!) a sprinkling of Tapatio makes these damn near perfect. So good I was actually thankful they accidentally served us up a large instead of the small we ordered. (The large is plenty for two to share.) This is naughty food at its best. If it weren't for Lucky Boy, my long-time fave Pasadena burger stand, I might have visited this place sooner. And what I would have found out is that they serve practically identical fried zucchini, and everything served at both places likely ranges from good to excellent. It wasn't easy to resist the temptation of ordering a burger, pastrami or gyros sandwich. That will wait for another time. On my first-ever visit I ordered a Greek salad and large fried zucchini. The counter guy cautioned me, "Do you know how much is in a large?" I answered that they reheat great in my toaster oven, which Lucky Boy's do. Plus, the large is only a dollar more, and costs about the same as LB's lone size. The Greek salad is served in a clear take-out box, and the dressing is provided in a sealed plastic cup outside of the box. This wins points, because I always feel a little ripped off when the dressing is packed inside. There's enough salad in there to feed two or three, and because they don't serve eat-in orders in a bowl, you might want to just take it home, and mix and serve it there. Every ingredient that should be included is. The lettuce is a mix of iceberg and baby greens, probably from a bag. No detectable romaine, but a serviceable, change-of-pace salad bed. Olives are plentiful, but the highlight is the feta cheese. Served in chunky cubes instead of crumbled, it's up to you to determine your feta dosage. Now, when in Pasadena, I'll always be torn between which great hamburger joint to land at. That is, unless there's yet another similar burger joint around that I haven't tried yet. Stop #1 of the Chili Cheese Fries Crawl Dude, they stepped up the game on the chili cheese fries! I don't remember the fries being that great before but they were by far the best of all the chili cheese fries I had the entire day. You definitely need to eat the fries with a fork. It was very much like a casserole. And can we get a holler for pastrami chili cheese fries? Woah! The huge box was blanketed in pastrami which wasn't too salty. It made the already great chili and huge mound of shredded cheese even more perfect. --edit! I got banged twice this weekend - Orange Banged, that is. Tops serves this delicious orange beverage amongst their other fountains drinks. And let me tell you, it is a perfect compliment to any order of fries. Period. But this review is not about the Orange Bang. Its about Tops. This was our first stop of the Chili Cheese Fries Crawl, and it was by far the best. The Chili Fries here are covered in mouthwatering chili (with the occasional mild green pepper in the mix), and then completely overlayed with shredded cheddar. I believe it's $6.00 for a large portion, and this can easily feed four people. For a little bit more, one can have pastrami added. I don't mean to imply a meager sprinkling of this meat, either. The whole top of the container is shrouded in delectable pastrami!! Can we say Evil Potato Goodness? Like a pack of wild hyenas, we devoured our fries with true carnivorous tenacity. The ambiance is classic greasy spoon, with mostly booths as seating options. There is a small parking lot, and street parking is plentiful. I wanted to give this place a chance, since so many people told me it's home of "the best burger in Pasadena" - but I just don't believe that the good people of the Crown City have such poor taste. The buns are cheap, flat, and overly sweet, like they were purchased at a bakery outlet. The burger itself was very thin, like In N Out style, and a bit greasy. Tonight I got a junior cheeseburger as a change of pace, but the nasty Kraft single on it wasn't what I was expecting. They give you mass quantities of fries, even in a junior order - but tonight I swear I found a hair in them! (It was blonde, oddly enough, which makes me certain it wasn't mine.) The oil or frying pan flavors must have rubbed off on them because they tasted nothing like the zucchini fries I've tasted in other places. To make a regretful decision over and over again. I'm just a glutton for punishment when it comes to tops burger. Make sure you eat the pastrami with pickled bananna peppers that are complimentary. It adds a juicy, spicy kick to the sandwich when you eat it together. The fries, thin and crispy, comes in a truck load amount...even in the small size. I personally love dipping it in tabasco and ketchup. Service is decent. Don't expect customer service like its the Ritz Carlton. Look at where you're at. You shouldn't be expecting that. This nice little burger joint is kind of in the middle of nowhere. But if you should find this place, you are in for a treat. The menu is huge, so there is something for everybody. Whether it is just breakfast, a burger, or a gyro, Tops has you covered. Despite it's good size, I wolfed down my cheeseburger like it was a slider. The great thing about Tops is that the portions are big. The small onion rings are absolutely huge and for sharing between tablemates. The thing that I really want to try is the pastrami burger, which is very popular here. Maybe I will next time. They have potato salad, chili cheese everything, fries, and a lot of other goodies. Plus, cherry Coke. The only problem I really had with this place is that there aren't any combos. So no discounts for meals. But that should be fine. You can order what you actually want. read more

However, this place has something that most other burger joints don't have- the california burrito. Carne Asada + Pico De Gallo + French Fries + Sour Cream all wrapped in a flour tortilla. Top it with some of their green salsa. SO GOOD. Seriously, the burrito is good but the salsa makes it what it is. What the heck do they put in that salsa? Yummi! This place is so freaken good. I would take a drive to come here for lunch when I worked in El Monte. They have this grilled chicken sandwich that was so good. Even the one with Avocado is bomb dizzle! I came back all week! I was always late to work coming back. HaHa. But well worth it. There sandwiches are pretty big. Stopped in last night for a burger. There were so many cars in the parking lot! I looked at my husband and said "This place is packed! Thats a good sign!". Walked and looked over the menu. Yikes! Whats up with those prices?! Expensive much? They dont have combos. Everything is seperate. A turkey burger was a little over $6, steak sandwich was close to $8, small order of zucchini was $4 something. I can't remember all the prices, but it just seemed really expensive considering it was just a burger stand. The husband and I ordered 2 bacon cheeseburgers (1 with no tomato) and an order of zucchini. My Groupon was for $12 and we ended up paying an additional $6 something. So without the Groupon the total would have been almost $20 for 2 bacon cheeseburgers and a zucchini? Sounds kind of steep. The woman who took our order was nice. They have this little carrot and yellow chili bar. Love those carrots! We chose a seat way in the back by the double doors. When I first walked to the back I couldn't help to notice how filthy it was. Dirty tables, massive amounts of food on the floor, an abandoned cup on the ground....Gross!! There were plenty of workers back there who could've grabbed a rag and wiped down some of the tables. Our food came out pretty quick and everything looked good. The Good: The bacon was very good, the char was nice on the patty and the pickles were juicy. The Bad: What's up with the massive amounts of onions?! They come in slivers and they were piled on by the fistful. I couldn't believe how many they put on! We destroyed our burger trying to pluck them out. The zucchini were like sticks and were way overcooked. The ranch lacked flavor and was watered way, way down. Had to sprinkle some pepper in there for flavor. So it's healthy right? There are a few locations. There is Tops on Allen, then The Original Tops, on Michillinda. My boyfriend and I always plan our dates together days before since we want to make sure each minute is well spent. We checked on yelp and came across 3 restaurants and one of them happened to be Tops. Since it was close by our Wine and Canvas class, we decided try this place out and... Oh my goodness, this place is SO GOOD. I knew that when I walked through the doors that I wanted to try their avocado bacon cheeseburger. It was one of the most pictured meal on Yelp, so I thought that I should try it and it was the best decision ever. My boyfriend got the same burger and he sincerely enjoyed it. He even ordered a small chili cheese fries but decided to make it a large since he saw that it looked really appetizing....and it was! At first, I didn't like the chili since it was too runny? But after a few more bites, I started to really, really enjoy it. It wasn't too salty either, which was what I was afraid of. My only disappointment was that my burger seemed a lot smaller than my boyfriend's. Perhaps it was because I got it to go while he got it for there? I felt like I had less of everything in my burger. I figured that if we ordered the same thing, our portions would look similar. Customer service was great. I liked how the cashier was always smiling when he talked to me when I was ordering. Since it was my first time here, his friendliness made me feel very welcomed. The place is clean and I noticed that there's always someone ordering food, meaning that this place is always on call. There's also always cars through the drive thru, or at least when I went. It's nice to know that I picked a restaurant that gets customers! The Tops on Walnut St. is a really great place to get a quick bite to eat. (Thought it is not on the same level of incredible food as the Tops on Colorado Blvd. T Burgers in Monrovia on Foothill is the same owner with the same food as this resturant.) Pastrami, Burgers, most of the main stays you would is expect are there, some times I just use the drive-thru to grab a few corn dogs for the road if im in the area. The prices are very good for the tasty-ness you recive. Even the salad is very good! The only big problem like many of the popular fast food resturants in Pasadena is it can get very packed at peak hours so the parking can be hard to get inside the lot. #1 Personal Recomendation: The "Tops Special" a big ol' pastrami cheeseburger pile of goodness! read more

I really don't get this place, some things they do great while other thins on the menu are terrible... it's like why even try if you aren't gonna do the best you can??? the ambience is always noisy, people talking as loud as they can and you can't miss the occasional screaming infant, bums hanging about in the outside patio...
