The worst customer experience ever in this restaurant. I have been to this restaurant many times but this time the kid, I should say the jack ass that was at the register had the worst customer service ever. After working 12 hours on Sunday I decided to invite my father and brother over since they have never tried tops. Worst mistake. I order six sandwiches one kids meal an order of fries and an order of onion rings. I asked that jack ass, with the plugs on his ears to please give me three more Ranches. As I already know they charge for the extras ranches, my brother made a comment " you for the three ranches after spending almost $100? then the dumb ass with the plugs answered in a really smart ass way, "well, we make our ranch, it is what it is"... when asked to speak to A manager or a person in charge he said there's no one in charge you can speak to any of us (with an I don't care attitude) I really hope the owner sees this review and take action in this matter...as a businessman I can tell you that you have lost me as a customer thanks to "most likely your son" that was your in charge of your place... yes, I paid $1.90 for 3 extra sauces... but you've lost a Customer that spends at least $200 month... read more

Found a fried bug in my food. Looks like a roach. The cashier lady picked it up and crush it saying it's was just a bad potato, not know that I took a picture of it. Potato's do not have wings... or antennas. I've n ver seen the workers in the front handle the food with gloves. Meh. I've experienced better. My sister and I both had to use our Groupon coupon before it expired so we traveled all the way over here with my cousin to see what they offer. Between all of us, we ordered a Chicken Tostada salad (I'm assuming these salads are the ones that one in the giant taco bowl?), 2 1/4 lb. Tops Cheeseburgers, sweet potato fries, fried onion rings, and a small coke. First off, the Chicken Tostada salad was HUMONGUOS!!! My sister had a "What am I going to do with that?!" look on her face when she saw it on the counter waiting to be called out. Surprisingly, she was able to eat it all except for the shell bowl. She said it was alright. She ate it without the dressing (since she said the dressing was where all the calories were -___- ). The avocadoes were good enough to make sure the salad didn't have that dry texture. Plus, the avocadoes were just lovely-looking, not a spot of brown on them. Next, the 1/4 Tops Cheeseburger was simply made and tasted like any other cheeseburger you could grill up at a family BBQ. The sweet potato fries, I could tell by just visually looking at it that Tops Burgers has yet to master them. They weren't as sweet and they were a little soft and not fried enough. Being a fan of sweet potatoe fries, I was excited about this one, but once I tasted the first fry from this place, I wasn't as excited anymore. My cousin and I kept arguing on who was going to finish them. That says something... they should try to improve the quality of the sweet potato fries. The fried onion rings, on the other hand, TOTALLY made up for the poor, quality sweet potato fries! They were breaded and fried so they were just so crunchy! Something I loook for regarding onion rings is the crunch and they totally nailed it!Sad to say, I was pretty full and so couldn't finish the onion rings. I would have if I could but my waistbelt wouldn't allow it. Keep it up with the onion rings! We dined in and the place felt like a diner. Best, simple breakfast burrito! I love the egg, cheese, and potato burrito with extra green salsa on the side. Can't ever forget the green and yellow chiles. The serranos are blistered and salted, so lovely! I love places that take care of their regulars. I went a couple days ago and ordered my comfort-food burrito. The nice, older gentleman at the register asked if I'd like to try it with onion and bell pepper added or maybe with egg whites? Willing to customize at no extra charge is awesome. He's actually suggested the bell pepper addition before and I went with it but realized I'm happy with plain and perfect. I said that I like it as is, to which he replied "okay, here's something while you wait. I hope you like it too" and handed me a free cup of iced tea with a fresh lemon wedge. As I left he said "see you next week" (half-joking, I don't go that often). His friendiness is so appreciated. The food is great for that day when you need to indulge in a gluttonous, cheesy breakfast. Oh boy my husband is a big fan of Tops. If you haven't been to Tops it's essentially like all mom and pop burger joints. They have all the American faire you could imagine, burgers, fries, salad, burritos and the list goes on and on. I am a fan of their zucchini fries. If you are getting these, make sure you're mindful of the sizes. The small is big enough for my husband and I to share and leaves us with some leftovers to take home. I am not a fan of their ranch sauce though. Why is it so watery? It honestly doesn't even taste like ranch in my opinion. I am a fan of their burger and pastrami breakfast burrito which are the two items I bounce back and forth from whenever we go here. I've had the California burritos here and it was a bit dry. The two items I come here for are the lamb/beef gyros and the pastrami beef sandwiches. it doesn't hurt that the fries are crispy and thin. Even the small order is a generous, mountain sized portion. The gyro ($8) is cooked to perfection. The warm pita flatbread serves as the blanket to sizzling hot meat that is seasoned to perfection. The tomatoes and the yogurt sauce add a nice fresh element to balance the otherwise, heavy and slightly salty meat. The pastrami ($10) has piled high meat that's stuffed into a french roll. The bread is a bit bland and too soft when it soaks up all of the meat juices. I opted to pour the meat over my tray of fries and just gorged my way to blissful, fast food heaven. The staff is always friendly and are quick to get the food out. The drive through is always busy which is a good sign that this place is legitimately good. They have a parking lot which is a godsend in Pasadena so take advantage. read more

Stopped by and was hoping for a shake, but no luck. Then ordered a small fries as I thought fries would be safe, non perishable type of item. Unfortunately while texture was fine and they were decently salted, they arrived a really off putting bright yellow. The oil must have been rancid as the fries had a very bitter taste...I could only eat a few before throwing the rest away. I'd even venture to say that it is better than in-n-out, the flavor is on par, but mostly I prefer Tops to avoid the hassle of the In-n-out drive thrus on Santa Anita or Walnut. Both always have cars spilling into the road and are major hazards. I'm always afraid I will get rear ended by an inattentive passing driver... It's a good thing I'm only in Pasadena twice a year. If I lived here I'd eat at Tops every single day of my life and if I ate a huge order of their fries every day, it would not be the best thing for my waistband. But I would be happy. Today I looked around and watched all the locals in line and wondered if they take it for granted that they can eat at Tops whenever they want to? It kills me that they might not even care. They might not care, but you should. The chili cheeseburger is to die for. It's not just chili and cheese but tomatoes and onion and pickles, etc. Yes, pickles make this burger. Most chili cheeseburgers don't have pickles, but the Tops chili meshes really well with the sharp dills. It's the perfect burger chili. Not really spicy, not too runny. Not too chili-y. I'm not sure if a huge bowl of it would be the best, but on a burger, it's perfect. My DH loves the Tops Special burger, and my eldest teenager has inherited his affection for this huge meat fest. 1/2# of pastrami on top of a cheeseburger with all the fixings. I ate one once and while it was good, I just like the chili cheeseburger better. My FIL veered from tradition and had a chili cheese dog today (living on the edge, he is). I had one about 10 years ago and he confirmed my impression. It's good but it's not the cheeseburger (but don't feel too bad for him. He lives here and can come back and get a burger next week). He and I agreed that if the chili cheese dog had all the fixings on it that the burger has (read pickles, 'maters, onions, etc) it might actually come close to the burger. The dog has a LOT more chili than the burger (you can't actually see the bun or the dog), but has nothing on it but the chili and cheese. Today he used the extra chili as dip for his fries, which he liked. Order fries. Do. A large order will over feed 3 people (or 4-5 polite people) with burgers. They are crispy, peels-on delights that are better than In-and-Out's fries. If it's a nice day, you can sit on the patio and watch the cars go by, eating the complementary pickled veggies while you wait for them to call your order number, which isn't long. It's a well-run ship. They also have a drive through. They have a big menu and I see people eating other things that look really good. But like I said, I only get to come here twice a year, so I can't skip my chili cheeseburger and risk eating something else that might not be quite as perfect. read more

Food is still pretty good but service is gone down. After ordering I asked the cashier if she had made it take out - she said yes it was take out. My order was called for pick-up and there it was on a tray for eat-in. Told server it was to be take-out. Instantly arms were thrown in the air and I got a big attitude. Cashier told server it was a take-out order but that didn't diminish the attitude. When server brought the packaged order I asked for a Ranch Dressing. Response was 75cents. Tiny tiny overcooked rubbery frozen shrimps were atrocious, so was the other crap in it. The only fresh thing in this order was the recycled paper that it was wrapped in. The Asada burrito was huge & heavy, with some sort of grease dripping & flowing everywhere from it. The asada was BURNT, the cheese was cold (almost frozen) & no herbs (Cilantro) as advertised.
