I appreciate that Torchy's is doing. They are offering a variety of tacos and thinking outside the box. But unfortunately, they kinda fall flat there. Torchy's has a variety of taco options that include all kinds of fillings like fried chicken or fried shrimp or just beef. The tacos they sell are pretty large and filling, but despite all of their ingredients, it's bland. I tried the brushfire, trailer park, and baja shrimp tacos. They were bland. I thought it had just been that day, but I've gone multiple times, takeout and dine in and the result was the same. I tried it with and without the sauce and with the sauce, it just feels like I'm masking the blandness with a cream sauce. The interior is nice though. It's quite loud in here, as the restaurant is usually pretty busy. It can be hard to find a seat during lunch and dinner time, so be prepared. I don't know if I want to try Torchy's again. It's too bland and mediocre, despite fresh ingredients. read more

We generally like Torchy's - even the one that is or was at Minutemaid in Houston. This location has a lot of issues. The person taking our order did t know if they had Chardonnay. We were one of only 2-3 tables in the restaurant and the service was slow and just about non-existent. The food looked like someone threw it on the plate. We used to love this Torchys, and we were excited to have a large Torchys so close to us! Well that was until we visited tonight. Apparently in the last few months, they have decided to go cheap and just have no staff what so ever work the front counter where you order (and don't respond to this, Torchys, by saying you have someone up there... Because that person just isn't there and doesn't want to be). You are forced to order from a screen. The couple in front of us ordered alcohol so of course the screen required an employee to enter their employee code for the couple to order the booze. They had to literally search the store for an employee because the only one that was out in the main dining area is the bartender (that I feel bad for, because I'm sure everyone goes to him, since no one else is around). To not have a single counter person is insane. I asked a person who worked there when I could one, if this is how things were now, the employee said the guy that is supposed to be at the counter just doesn't want to be there all the time so he just chooses to not be up there. Wow. Apparently on top of that there are periods of time where management just doesn't require anyone up front at all. They had 2 people at the front counter all the time, in the first year or two they opened! What a ridiculous way of now trying to not pay more employees. The food was also not as good as it has been in the past. They used bad avocados for the guac. All that to say, shame on you guys... We won't be coming back at all. It really sucks you guys did such a great job and now you're screwing your servers that are supposed to serve food, all so you can not have a single person at the front counter. You're also screwing your customers that we have to have a long ordering experience forcing everyone to use the screen... That then requires an employee to use a code anyway. Torchys, do me a favor and don't respond sorry for my experience. Everyone hates your screen system. Take a hint... You can have screens, that are in a completely separate area from the front counter, if people want to use them and choose to use them. But the fact that you have the screens lliterally in the middle of the front counter, in the way of actual employees taking orders, clearly means your new model is to go employee-less. If you say you have someone at the dedicated to the front counter, then it's time you fire them because they would rather roam the store then be where they are supposed to be... And that was the case the entire time we were there. read more

We had heard about Torchys before and it had been on our list to try for a long time, but we are rarely in this part of town. Man, are we glad we came! Although you wouldn't be able to tell by the size, this is a counter-service place. They have tons of space inside and outdoor seating, as well. These are not your ordinary tacos, so if you're craving traditional, go somewhere else. Torchys offers the unique options you'll usually only find at a fancy restaurant or specialty food truck. We got the following tacos: Scallywag, Tipsy chick, Republican, Mr. Orange, and Chicken Fajita. They were all delicious and unlike anything we have gotten elsewhere. We also got the Green Chile Queso, which was also good, and plenty of it. This is the first place I have ever been where we ran out of chips before we ran out of queso. The tacos are also not small. They recommend ordering two (three if you're really hungry), but we were all full after one. The size did make them difficult to eat by hand, though. We left all raving about it and are planning on adding it to our regular rotation. read more

I've loved Torchy's since I lived in Austin and they were new. They never really let me down and didn't today. We all went for lunch and I had the Crossroads. And to hack my lunch into two tacos I got an extra tortilla. They give you so much on one that you can make it into two tacos. My daughter had the trailer trash and my wife had the shrimp tacos. We also had guacamole and a side of rice. All was great and as expected. Drinks (margarita and cherry lime) were fabulous. We'll continue to come. read more

I drive by this place a lot and decided to try the untraditional tacos. This is a chain restaurant so I was hesitant at first but really wanted something different and I was nor disappointed!! All three sauces have really good flavor and the food taste fresh as well. Reach taco is under 7 dollars. Depending if you get chicken fish beef pork ect I was not disappointed I had my tacos to go. The staff was friendly and kind offered water while I waited and when I had asked if there was sauce they said they already had it on the side in the bag and offered more sauce if I wanted I told them it's ok thank you just making sure! The first time I tried Torchy's Tacos was a couple of years ago when I worked as a contractor at a small business. We were often treated to free lunch and a couple of times we ordered from Torchy's Tacos and had it delivered to the office. Since I love barbacoa, the Democrat was my go-to. I had heard about this one closer to our house so we went yesterday for brunch. It's not hard to convince my husband since he loves tacos. This is the first time for me to be at a Torchy's location. The line was a bit long but it did move quickly. Though I saw many good options, I stuck with the Democrat. My husband had the Mr. Orange, which was salmon, and he also had the Migas. I had the Tequila Sunrise ($3.50 on Saturdays and Sundays) and also a coffee. There was a bar area and the rest of the drinks (fountain drinks, iced tea, and coffee) were self-serve. The fillings in the tacos are so generous that it actually feels like I'm eating a burrito! I think we'll be visiting more frequently! Bonus is that take Samsung Pay! read more

I have to admit I came here begrudgingly because of a "thank you" gift card from my boss' boss. The fact that it was from Torchy's and only $25 shows how little he knows me, but I digress. I had been to Torchy's before so my expectations were not that high. I just don't think it rates high on the authentic Mexican scale. It is to Mexican what Demo's is to Greek food. But I came with my gift card loaded and tried to keep an open mind. What I got was the steak fajita taco, and some chips and green chili Queso and a frozen margarita. I have to say that everything had excellent flavor all the way around. I left with my card spent and my belly full. I only gave 3 stars because the place is just a box inside. No fun décor, no smiling wait staff, it could just at least try to be inviting and warm inside, can't it? It's just a get down to business, order your food and drink, sit yo butt down in uncomfortable chair, and get out quick kind of place. Service at the counter was good. Food came out good but the tortillas were a little under cooked. However the 2 stars is due to an issue behind the bar. My mom wanted extra limes and when she went up to ask, she observed the bartender multiple times touch his hair or move it out of his face continuously. (Ew) Then, he asked her to go get a to go container from the drink station for him to put them in. So when she came back, he grabbed the limes with the same hand that was in his hair, and placed them in the cup. If you're gonna have long hair and be touching it while working at least wear gloves before touching food items you're giving to customers- it's unsanitary and gross. read more

Torchy's is such a fun place to eat! The tacos are big with funky flavors! So many flavors so whatever you are craving, you can get it as a taco here! Not too expensive either but you get a lot of food. You definitely shouldn't be leaving hungry! Should be on your list of places to try when eating your way through San Antonio! read more

I love Torchys but this one needs some help. My friend and I sat at the bar and could not get service after we ordered drinks and queso. All the bartenders seemed overwhelmed and yet lost, and it's a good thing we weren't in a hurry. I ordered the fried avocado taco (my fave) and the avocados weren't fried. Big bummer. To get more water I had to go get some from the fountain since the bartenders were too preoccupied. I still love torchys but this location is lacking. read more

They know how to take the orders but I guess they don't know how to execute it. Taco is first off half the size of all the other tacos we got. It doesn't have any cheese on it (even though it's chorizo egg and CHEESE), and it's on a flour tortilla and not corn. I am gluten free so I am now unable to eat my taco. I just think they need to take a little more time to make their tacos the same. Or I guess I just have to check everything before leaving from now on. read more

So I LOVE spicy food! And I can handle spicy food. But this was beyond spicy that I could not enjoy my meal. We ordered the queso which was delicious! This has got to be the largest Torchy's Tacos I have ever seen. One thing - you can't miss it while driving down 1604. The ginormous light up sign on the front of the building just adds to the excitement that we have a Torchy's in Stone Oak now.. and adds to the fact that these tacos are "Damn Good." Parking is ample, they are set up to expect long lines in the ordering que, but we did not have to wait at all. There is a side door for to go orders, that has direct access to the cashier, and allows you to by pass any long dine in line. There is a nice outdoor patio when you walk up, then you walk in to a bright, SUPER clean restaurant, with the walkway to the ordering que to your left, dining tables all over the center of the restaurant and the bar to the left. Menus right in front of you, which you can grab, walk down the aisle to order, and then there is a place for you to drop off the menu prior to ordering. The staff here are great, and have excellent recommendations if you are completely overwhelmed. Like I didn't realize they have breakfast tacos! They offer wine, beer and mixed drinks. If you visit during the month of December - order the Naughty Santa. Is the taco of the month, and you WILL NOT be disappointed! Grilled shrimp, chorizo, pickled onions, jack cheese, avocado, cilantro and poblano sauce on a flour tortilla. This may be my new favorite taco, and I am not sure what I will do once December ends. I guess go back to a few of my old faithfuls. We started with Hillbilly Queso and chips. The balance of cheese to chorizo ratio was perfect. The green chili queso was a great hint of heat too. There are many different types of tacos. These aren't you typical tacos you will find in San Antonio. There are many, many different types. The combinations are all great, I have not had a bad taco. I'll just start by saying that I've been here 3 times in 4 days and will be coming back again this week. This location is in the middle of my regular errand route so I'll be stopping a lot! So far I've had the fried avocado, chicken fajita (x3), grilled chicken (from kid's menu), tipsy chick, and green pork chili tacos. All are good. My kid ate a #1 breakfast taco (eggs, bacon, and cheese) and declared it awesome. I really like how fresh everything tastes and there are so many flavors! The tacos looks small, but are not. I eat and lot and two tacos filled me up. The green chili queso is excellent and kind of addictive. I dare you to stop dipping those chips. The restaurant is fast casual. You have to wait in line to order unless you sit at the bar. For counter orders they give you a buzzer thing and bring your food when it's ready. There is a full bar, plus a wide range of Coke fountain drinks and ice tea. The dining area is large and open with some outside seating. Staff was very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. Torchy's Tacos is always the bomb and this new location off 1604 is no exception. With a huge dining area, open floorpan, high ceilings & tons of parking--it's destined to be my new go-to. This location has much better parking than San Marcos Torchy's and not as crowded as the San Antonio or Austin locations I've frequented. On this visit, we ordered fried avocado tacos (flour tortillas) and a split order (half & half) of chips n salsa and chips n queso. Both the tacos & queso were outstanding! But, since I haven't had the queso in a while I totally forgot about the delicate little dab of guacamole, cilantro & shredded cheese in the center...sweet! It is this kind of extra touch & attention to detail that makes Torchy's over the top awesome!! ACCESSIBILITY: This location has good accessibility for people like me with mobility issues. There is a nice big parking lot with spaces on both sides of the restaurant as well as in front & behind. They have a total of six handicapped parking spots. When facing the giant Torchy's sign in the front, there are three handicapped spots on the left and three on the right. I suggest utilizing the spots on the right if you need wheelchair access since the ramp is located nearby. For those using a cane or difficulty climbing stairs, the parking spots on the left might be better since you can enter and walk across the restaurant without having to climb stairs or a ramp. In addition, the distance between the tables seemed much better than other locations, which always makes it easier to maneuver. read more

The space was pretty much the only thing I liked about this place. 1. We had to get someone to clean our table because it was dirty, but no big deal. 2. Our food comes out before our chips and queso which is super weird. 3. The server was bringing us other people's food and mixing things up and we had to repeatedly tell him we didn't order the food. 4. The queso came out freezing cold. 5. We sent it back, and then they brought us back a DECONSTRUCTED QUESO DUDE. Like all of the things that come in the queso, was put to the side so we could "make it how we like it". 6. Pretty mediocre tacos and really the only draws I can think of are the full bar and the cool décor. Otherwise, better tacos, service and prices can be found at any handful of options within a couple of miles. We stopped by around 4:30 on a Saturday and while the place was fairly busy, finding seating was not a problem. However, after standing in line to order 5 tacos for about $30 at the noisy counter, I was surprised when I asked for a "grownup" size cup for water and was told I would have to pay for it. Then they tell me it's a 20-30 minute wait for the food. As for the tacos, I had the Democrat which was with chorizo and it was pretty meh. The other one with the jerk chicken at least had some flavor, but again, nothing spectacular. The guacamole was dull and the Mexican rice was impressively bad. I also don't get why places expect you to tip when ordering after making you wait in line, then fetch your own drinks, then get your own condiments, napkins and plasticware. I mean I get that same level of service at service at McDonalds. There are at least 3 other taco places along Huebner/Blanco and Huebner/Stone Oak that have much better tacos, prices and service. read more

I had not been to a Torchy's Tacos in quite awhile. It was a very busy day and I had skipped lunch. It was approaching 4pm and as I was wrapping up my work day, I thought I'd get my order of Torchy's "to go". I ordered queso & chips, guacamole & chips and 3 tacos on yummy flour tortillas. I ordered the Crossroads ( Brisket, Cilantro,  Grilled onions,  Jalapeños,  Avocado,  Jack cheese & Tomatillo sauce), the Tipsy Chick (Chicken Fajita, Cheddar,  Corn,  Green Chiles,  Spinach,  Bacon Bourbon Marmalade,  & Chipotle Ranch) and Mr. Orange (Salmon, Cilantro,  Black Bean & Corn Relish,  & Poblano Ranch). I went back to my hotel and enjoyed it with a Japanese Sapporo beer that I had purchased earlier. I ate about a third of the queso and chips--always excellent! Then, tried the salmon and beef tacos. They both really hit the spot and I decided to save the Tipsy Chick taco for a late night snack or breakfast! Also, I tried a few bites of their creamy guacamole, but wound up keeping it cool and taking it home and using it for a quite excellent avocado toast for a couple of breakfasts. I don't know what magic they mix with the avocados, but somehow it stayed fresh & green for 2 breakfasts and tasted great! I don't know what happened to Torchy's. Maybe they decided to cut corners during the pandemic. I used to accept their prices because the tacos were good and were a decent size, but the last couple of times I got tacos delivered, the tacos were not worth the price. My most recent order included a Baja shrimp taco that I asked for the pickled onions to be excluded from, but I guess to them, that also meant that I shouldn't get any cabbage as well. I ordered from multiple locations and this seems like the new trend. I'll stick to the mom and pops where the tacos actually have food in them and cost way less. read more
