First time at their La Cantera location. It was very difficult to find as Yelp directions and Google were not helpful. I had to call their main telephone and deal with a scratchy voice mail setup that was from the 70's. We arrived 30 minutes late for our reservation and were seated in the rear of the restaurant near the kitchen pass. The ambiance was loud, but pleasant. Our waiter arrived promptly with water and menus. We ordered some red Sangria and were informed of the specials for the night. We ordered pulpo gallego, stuffed piquillo peppers, chistorra and scallops gallego. The dishes arrived promptly and advertised proteins were scare. Bits of octopus weee marginal and three thumb-sized pieces of scallops were pitiful for $22. The stuffed bacon wrapped dates were cool and bacon old and rubbery. Went to Toro at La Cantera on a Wednesday. It is happy hour all night on Wednesdays so that was good. All appetizers on happy hour are good. Service was very slow. One round of bar drinks we waited 30 minutes and the bar was less than 20 feet from us. We asked to speak to manager and were told there wasn't one there. Maybe that's why services was lacking some. I think after they work out the kinks and if they have good management present it will be a better experience. It is very small place though. Decor is great. read more

This was my first time at the location. I was sat under a staircase next to their storage boxes which kind of ruined the ambiance of a nice dinner I was going for. The server was nice and gave me great recommendations. The Paella was really good and definitely had more flavor than what you'd traditionally get in Spain which is perfect for my tastebuds. Only reason for 3 stars instead of 5 is the fact that me and my friend got ready and we were excited to try this new place only to literally be seated by the storage. We went to just grab some appetizers and drinks. The bar was full downstairs so we went upstairs and met Darrin the bartender. Super cool dude. Gave us some pointers on the appetizers and my husbands drink and they were spot on. I'm pregnant so I asked about a mocktail and he just made one up and it was great! We had a great time chitchatting with him and got good vibes. I don't understand how they call that a tortilla de patata.. that was an omelette with three pieces of potato. The gambitas al ajillo were 4 pieces of shrimp for 17$... The pulpo a la gallega (19$) was hard and chewy, the potatoes were hard too. The boquerones were tasty. What you don't see is all the water leaking into the restaurant during a torrential downpour! While the staff was trying to clean up the water, the hostess and waitstaff still managed to be welcoming and delightful. They put us at a corner table in a private room which made our braving the elements so much more special! The chefs and bartender didn't miss a beat! We watched the rain from inside through a beautiful glass window pane. (I would hope that the management at La Cantera will help this wonderful business out by fixing the leaks.) It's my 1st time here. I happened to walk by this establishment on my way back to my car and saw their happy hour sign. I walked in and sat at the bar. Megan, who provided outstanding service, immediately greeted me and offered me a menu. I ordered two of their happy hour gin drinks and a Creme Brule carajillo. They were all on point, absolutely well done. I also ordered their fried calamari. Although it tasted more like pollock fried sticks, they were delicious. I had a very pleasant experience here. This is a great place for small bites/ tapas and drinks! The Cantera location by far exceeds the downtown location. There is live Spanish music on Friday nights which was great for waking up and singing but a little too loud to hear your table over dinner. That was a slight annoyance since I specifically requested a quiet area away from music in my reservation. It is not a dealbreaker. There is a cute patio, downstairs dinining, and upstairs lounge/bar. I definitely recommend a torched Carajillo (a shot of espresso with Licor 43) and some Jamón Serrano Croquetas as one of the tapas to start with. The paella entries seemed a bit overpriced for the quality and serving size compared to true authentic Spanish restaurants. However, this isn't a place I would recommend for "authentic" food. It's a place you go to fun for and ambiance. If you manage your expectations with that in mind, this could be a 5 star review. We came here for dinner during Valentines Day ! The restaurant was busy and packed . Upon arrival I asked the waiter if we can order the Toro Paella because I know Paella takes time to prepare and cook . In their main location at San Antonio's downtown area we also dined in there a year ago and our paella took 45 minutes to be served . So after ordering paella , he came back to order our appetizers/ tapas and our drinks . The jumbo gambas Al Ajillo as well as the Serrano y piquillo were ordered. The drinks as well as the appetizers came in pretty fast around 12 minutes which was well appreciated and in another 10 minutes we were surprised that the paella came . With how fast the paella was served I had my suspicions that it was not well cooked plus the way it looked like it was a bit pale like not enough saffron was used there . When I started to dig in the paella true enough it was soggy , liquidy and did not even have the socarrat at the bottom of the pan unlike what we experienced a year ago at their downtown location . Don't get me wrong , the good flavors were there but it wasn't as well cooked and as authentic compared to the one we had on the downtown area . Even if the La Cantera branch of this restaurant is only 5 minutes drive from where we live but I don't think I will continue to visit and dine in there if Iam craving for some paella . I might just have to drive up to their downtown location even if it's a bit far . I hope the chefs will improve this speciality dish . Everyone knows that a good and well cooked paella takes time and we certainly understand that we have to wait . read more

The cochinita pibil tacos were delicious but tiny, and the habenero lime sauce is a must with the paella.
