My family of 4 came here for an early Sunday dinner to celebrate my birthday. It's a really cool place, especially for large groups. We saw a couple of tables with 8+ parties. Bonus that you can get a pitcher of sangria for $10 on Sunday's when you order paella. We ordered several dishes to try, all tapas with the exception of the paella. Here's what we tried: Conejo Frito con Miel 43 - this is 3 pieces of fried rabbit legs tossed in honey and sea salt for $12. I just wanted to try it and it tastes like chicken. The honey was a good and needed touch. This was our favorite dish. Piquillos Rellenos - 3 sweet red peppers stuffed with goat cheese, cream cheese, pecans and Serrano ham for $13. We liked this one. I was afraid with 2 cheeses it would feel heavy but it was surprisingly light tasting. Jumbo Gambas al ajillo - 4 jumbo shrimp sautéed with garlic and dried chiles for $19. I thought this was spicy but not at all. It would've been better if the bread was toasted like crostinis. Panela 43 - 5 pieces of grilled panela cheese tossed with licor 43 honey for $12. We really enjoyed this one and it shouldn't be surprising but it was sweet lol. Kinda like a dessert cheese. Toro Small Tablado + small Jamón Iberrico - for $29 and $22. The small tablado had 3 meats, 3 cheeses, olives, pickled peppers and mustard, fig jam, and 4 crackers. The chef selected manchego, Mahon, Kilometro 39, Chorizo Español, jamón serrano, and sobrassada. Then we tacked on a small order of the jamón iberrico. IMO, $22 for the 3 pieces of ibérico was NOT worth it. Nonetheless, the charcuterie plate was good. Toro Paella (small): this was this classic paellla with peas, shrimp, mussels, chicken, calamari, pork belly & spanish chorizo for $34. Personally, I didn't find any pork belly but I only had 2 small scoops cuz this came at the end and we were on the brink of full lol. I also only saw these 2 jumbo shrimp and 2 mussels. So if you're looking for a heavier seafood paella, choose the other one (paella marinera). I thought this had a good flavor. It didn't have the slight crunch/char that I thought paella is supposed to have but I'm just glad the rice was cooked all the way thru. We took home nearly 3/4 of the pan cuz we were full. Pulpo a la Gallega - octopus and poached potatoes covered in paprika for $21. This was our least favorite. All we could taste was paprika Our server took time to provide us with recommendations but he was kinda slow coming to check on us. To be fair though, I think there were only 2 servers working The floor. I enjoyed this and look forward to coming back on Flamenco Night (hosted every 4th Thursday)!

We stopped by for a quick lunch. They have good deals per day, such as happy hour all day Wednesday, which we enjoyed. The quality of the food was good. The service was great and the space is very nicely presented with ample indoor and outdoor seating and a large bar. Like any Spanish restaurant they offer a wide variety of cocktails, wine, sangria, and tapas. Would recommend.

Food tasted great. Restaurant was spacious with two levels and outdoor patio. It is too hot to sit outside. Our waiter was attentive and refilled water frequently. Know that these are truly tapas, small portions. You'll need to order enough... we sorta ordered as we went. Everything tasted good. I'd definitely get the steak with blood sausage, delicious! Also this place closes at midnight, that's amazing. Great for late nights!

The first thing we had was the calamari and the 4 Monticito flight. The calamari was AWESOME!!! Big tendrils with perfect seasoning and nice breading. I didn't love the sauce, but I would have gotten another order asap. The goat cheese sandwich was amazing. The seafood one was pretty good. The meat one was okay. And the pan con tomato was meh. The charcuterie was good although the crackers for bread were not my thing. The jam was awesome and the meats were good. The only thing that really let me down was the potatas bravas. It was fried potato with maybe a bit of paprika. The sauces on the side were also not my thing...but maybe if the potato was tossed in the sauce...I don't know...it was just not good. But then we got our dessert, the top one from the menu with the soaked bread and added ice cream to it. Just amazing!

This Spanish restaurant is decent, but given the many options in the city, it doesn't quite stand out--especially when it comes to flavor. The service was good, though not exceptional, which is something I would expect at this price point. This was our second attempt at dining here--on our first visit, we arrived at 8:30 PM (30 minutes before closing) but were turned away. This time, we made a reservation via Yelp, arrived well in advance, and were seated promptly, 2/1/2025. The ambiance is beautiful, with elegant décor and dim lighting, but the live music on weekends made it uncomfortably loud. Service was quick, but the food itself lacked the depth of flavor I've experienced at other Spanish restaurants. We started with the croquetas de jamón, which were lukewarm and had a noticeable oil flavor. At nearly $4 each, they weren't worth the calories, and we left one uneaten. The paella, featuring pork and egg, was an interesting twist, but the flavors didn't quite come together, and it was spicier than expected. While the experience was pleasant overall--especially given the limited Spanish restaurants in the area--it wasn't memorable, and for the price, I wouldn't rush back. If you do visit, consider coming at a quieter time.

GREAT service by Matiana who was attentive, funny, knowledgeable. Strolled into my first Tapas experience with the whole family and have absolutely no regrets! We came in during 'HORA FELIZ' and went a little crazy; Patatas Bravas, Calamares, Mejillones, Montadito Flight. Mom also got the Ensalada de Primavera and Dad got Serrano y Manchego. I think we might've gotten more but I can't remember because we also ordered Sangria lol! White Wine was all they had which was delightful and paired perfectly. Everything has such quality and terrific flavor. Not to mention, the beauty of tapas and the small plates/portions is they're prepared quickly and we left satisfied but not uncomfortably stuffed.

Made reservations via Open Table for Mother's Day at 1215. Enjoyed both Paellas which wete the Toro Special and Negra- both flavorful, the Negra felt like it lacked toppings in it; also enjoyed the Solomillo tapas- meat was cooked medium how we asked for. Not a fan of the mussels, it was a bit too salty for me. They had a pitcher deal of Sangria for 10 bucks, which was pretty good, wish there was more fruit though. We were seated pretty quickly, but the problem is where the service and how quick the food arrived/ how we were checked on; I understand stand the paella is made to order, but hoped that we were warned in advance since we had 2 kids with us; the first paella we ordered came in even after the second one we ordered. We arrived at 1215 and left the restaurant at 230. Would still come back for the food and give it another try.

Came here for our anniversary because the wife wants to visit Spain. The service was good but the food was bad bad. We got the calamari and nooo seasoning, got the fried goat cheese tapas which was good(can't mess it up) Mediterranean salad tasted like lime juice was dumped in it for seasoning. We've been craving for some good paella and excited to try Toro. Maybe I was building it up in my head, but I wasn't a fan of the paella as much. I found it rather too salty, but the seafood was great. The highlight of our meal was the tapas. Loved all of them. We had the calamari, fried shrimp, sausage and many more. All fresh and excellent flavors! We'd probably go back just for the tapas. Everyone was very accommodating to our group, and we appreciate it, especially with two kids.

Went on a Sunday. They had a great special where if you buy a paella, you will get a $10 pitcher of sangria. Of course, we took advantage of this deal. We got the seafood,paella. It had Calamari, shrimp, mussels, and baby octopus. We got the large and it fed the four of us. We did have a little bit leftover from it. We did order tapas to start off with. We had the papas braves. The sauce was not on the potatoes. You do have them on the side so you can make it as spicy or not as spicy as you like. We also had the gambitas de ajillo. It is a shrimp dish. It comes with a side of round slices of bread. . It would have been nice to have a little bit more bread since it only came with four. The best of the three tapas we ordered was the queso al horno. It is baked Brie with herbs and honey. I could have definitely eaten it all. For dessert, we shared a carlota de Limon and tarrijas. The carlota was my favorite. It tasted like key lime pie. The tarrijas remind of a bread pudding. Our waiter was very nice and efficient. Parking is available on site. The restaurant is located in the mall next to Yard House and bar Louie. There is some parking adjacent to the restaurant. we made reservations online. They have inside and outside seating.

My favorite restaurant in San Antonio. We love the Stone Oak location but all are good and we have been to them all. The La Canterra location is large and can accommodate larger parties if needed. My favorite dish used to be the tacos pibil but now I love the vegetarian paella. Other must haves are the patatas bravas and the queso de cabra frito and the solomillo. read more

Great atmosphere and great service, the hostesses and wait staff were very nice. Make sure to be very clear with them if you send anything back or swap it with something else that they need to take it off the bill. Toro Paella was excellent, croquettes were excellent, gamba they are here was good but the shrimp were too small to make it excellent. Boquerones were just okay, I think you can skip those. read more

If you order a drink downstairs, you can't take it upstairs; apparently the drinks at the upstairs bar are super special and it's unthinkable that drinks from inside the literal same establishment can be seen among them because the drinks at upstairs bar are made by someone with a beard and tattoos (the same beard and tattoos you've seen on a thousand other bartenders who fancy themselves "mixologists"). Possibly the most pretentious place in all of San Antonio, TX. This isn't a speakeasy in Monterey. It's not a rooftop bar in Madrid. Knock it off. Get some perspective, please. read more

The first time we went to Torro in La cantera was during our anniversary. The drinks are amazing. It is a lady bartender that makes the best drinks all the time we've been here twice the first time our pork tacos had a super crispy tortilla that just melted in your mouth. The second time we win everything was super greasy and falling apart the the flavors were there, but it was not as enjoyable as the first time. And we loved the shot sets that they have we ordered it both times we went, and then we've had all the espresso drinks. The margarita and Paloma are super strong. We do need to go back and try to their Paella because they are known for their paella but great vibes. Great atmosphere. read more

Overall had a pleasant experience. We went on probably the coldest evening in SA. The restaurant was freezing! The Sangria was amazing. The tapas were delicious. The gambas al ajillo were quite different than what we are used to from the Spanish restaurants back in Chicago. The date tapas suggested from our waitress was great. I recently spent a week in Barcelona. Didn't eat incredibly fancy, but made a point to eat at local restaurants. With that in mind... Toro at La Cantera is overpriced for mediocre (at best) food. Got the pimientos a padron, stuffed dates (which were very good), pan tomate and the house paella with a pitcher of fruit juice sold as sangria. With tip, walked out $100 lighter. Ouch. The paella was served in a pan half the size I was used to in Barcelona at 150% of the price. The "seafood" consisted of two jumbo shrimp, two mussels and some squid. The seafood was vastly outnumbered by the sausage and chicken in the pan. Very disappointing to say the least. Service was good. Ambiance was fancy Stone Oak. In sum, just because something is expensive doesn't make it good or worth the money. :-( read more

We went on the night of a Spurs game. We had a large group and had made a reservation ahead of time. It was very busy but regardless we never received water or had our drinks taken in the first 45 minutes that we were there we complained to the manager and the waiter just keptavoiding us. It was the worst experience ever. They wouldn't even let us go up to the bar to purchase our own drinks. They were so rude to us. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

I would absolutely recommend coming here on Tuesday for Tapa Tuesday! It's buy 2 get the third free, which is a really good deal. Happy hour is on weekdays from 12-6 pm and was also a great deal! We got a whole pitcher of white sangria for only $18, and it was so delicious. Tasted just like juice but I definitely could feel the effects of the alcohol. The tapas are great and we tried so many of them I didn't even keep count. The most notable ones I do remember are the datiles al tocino & queso de cabra frito. Ambiance is very nice and romantic inside, and it's a great date spot! read more

My husband, mother-in-law, and I decided to try Toro's Lounge upstairs called "Licor 43". It was so enjoyable! The atmosphere was so cool and relaxing and the drinks were great! The bartender Darren was amazing and gave us great service! He's the real deal, definitely will be back with friends! read more

We walked in not knowing what to expect. This place is incredible. We sat at the bar and the bartender Megan was so helpful with her recommendations. We had a couple of drinks, the chorizo and tapas which were delicious and a paella. We also had carajillo which was the entertainment of the night. We highly recommend this place especially for a sporadic date night. read more

Toro Kitchen + Bar is a family-owned restaurant blending Spanish tradition with Texan flair. Founded by Gerardo, whose roots trace back to the scenic Valle De Ruesga in Santander, Spain. Determined to share this love affair with Texas, Gerardo teamed up with his sister Vanessa and best friend Thomas to bring Toro to life.

Our family hails from the picturesque Valle De Ruesga in Santander, Spain, before making our way to Mexico. I grew up between Mexico and Texas, and it was during my visits to Spain that I developed a deep appreciation for its rich traditions, delectable cuisine, and, above all, its exceptional wines! There were a few patrons at the bar but no one at any dining tables. Maybe a sign?? The reviews on Google and Yelp are all over the place. The decor is nice but the seating is a little outdated and worn. I can understand this, though, because I am sure they get a lot of family traffic being a hotel so close to Six Flags. Our waiter, Robert, came right over to take our order. He was friendly and personable. The Restaurant Week menu had two choices for each course, so my friend and I ordered everything so we could try it. First up, the appetizers were poblano and corn soup or heirloom tomato salad with blue cheese. The soup was delicious but was not very hot temperature-wise. The salad is a beautiful idea, but the tomatoes were just bad. They were out of season, mushy, and tasteless. I love tomatoes, so I was disappointed. Next up entrees. My friend had the braised short rib with beans and rice. I had the Redfish with rice and green beans. The short rib was excellent, but it came out at room temperature. Considering we were the only ones there that was a red flag. My fish was seasoned well, and I enjoyed it, but it was room temperature also. Is there a draft in the kitchen? Other reviews mentioned their food was not hot so it seems like a trend. For the amount you pay, the food should be piping hot when it comes to the table. Finally, we got to dessert. I had the creme Brulee cheesecake and my friend had the campfire dark chocolate torte. The desserts were delicious with no complaints at all. This place has a lot of potential, but there are too many restaurants in San Antonio, so you have to make a positive impact on your customers, so they want to return.

I booked a table days in advance for the Spain vs Argentina game. Showed up early, saw empty tables, and still got shoved upstairs like an afterthought. Manager Gabriel's customer service skills consist of... staring. That's it. Just staring. Honestly, I didn't know "reservation" meant "you get whatever scraps are left." We felt completely dismissed!! If you enjoy being treated like you don't exist, Toro Kitchen is the place. If not, run.
