It's been a few years since I've had to visit a family member at Torrance Memorial Hospital. In between visiting and waiting for provider updates, there is Yang's Cafe for plenty of food and beverage options. It is still a nice cafeteria with great options and staff. There is a salad bar, a station with today's specials, a station for sandwiches or wraps made to order, a hot grill where you fill out a form to order burgers, fries, grilled cheese, chicken sandwiches, or patty melts. There is a grab and go station with angus burgers, veggie burgers, curly fries, or chicken tenders. There is a refrigerated shelf with ready made sandwiches, hard boiled eggs, yogurt and fruit parfaits, cheese sticks, fruit cups, and more. They have a little section for a vendor called, The Good Cookies which offer gluten free and or vegan cookies. There are also shelves with snacks like chips and cookies. As for beverages, there is a Don Francisco self serve coffee, beverage dispenser that offers Bubly sparkling water and sodas, refrigerators that offer bottled water and other beverages. You bring your tray of food/beverages or whatever you have in your hand to the cashier and they get you checked out. All the staff that I have encountered over the last 2 days and an evening have been kind. It was taking me a while to figure what dessert I wanted after dinner today and a Yang's employee mentioned that the Starbucks/Yang's around the corner had more dessert options which was accurate. Hope NOT to be a regular here but, if I have to be at TMMC, this is the place to eat. Also in the daytime, if you sit closer to the grand piano, a volunteer is playing something lovely on the piano. 4 stars. read more

Yang's Cafe is located central in the hospital's main lobby. It has MANY varied items in their menu, as you enter the cafe .. hit and cold. The prices are EXCELLENT!! The sandwiches are substantial and their hot meals delicious. I REALLY like their pizzas! I think there are people who have been there before visiting patients (or being a patient) returning just as a happy customer at Yang's. Good food, good prices. Nice large seating area .. and you can listen to the live piano music if someone happens to be playing. Very nice. read more

Today I visited the hospital with my aunt and decided to order a turkey provolone sandwich with tomatoes and avacado. This is also my first time trying food here at Torrance Memorial. The drink was delightful, a small carton box of vanilla soymilk. There are options here at the cafeteria, from burgers to pizza. I watched how they made the food and it seems to be made of fresh ingrediants. The sandwich overall didn't have anything striking or unique. But I do see that there are less diverse options. It would be nice to see a lot more flavorful dishes from different cultures. It was pleasant to try cafeteria food here and loved the ambiance of the place. So many people were helpful and guided me through the cafeteria. The service is quite good, no complaints so far. Thank you Torrance Memorial Yang's Cafe for the warm experiance. read more

I've pretty much been here all week and had food from Yang's Cafe. Today I had a tuna melt and curly fries. It was delicious! I needed this comfort food. It hit the spot. Service is always good and ambiance is clean with plenty of seating. Condiments and utensils are available as well as a microwave. Earlier this week I also had flank steak and mashed potatoes, a salad, and chicken wings with onion rings... honestly everything was good. This is probably the weirdest review I'm writing because it's about a hospital cafe lol But let me tell you... Yang's Cafe has to be far superior than any other regular hospital cafeteria place you been to. I used to work at TMMC and whenever I didn't bring a lunch (which was every shift). I was eating or grabbing my something from Yang's cafe. This place has a new menu every week! They also have a made fresh to order grill and hot grab and go items. At one point, I would literally schedule myself to work Wednesdays at the hospital. Just so I can enjoy Yang's Aroz Caldo for breakfast. It would come with green onions and lime juice on the side. I would grab a boiled egg from grab and go items to add to it, and this was perfection for my first break after morning rounds. Celebrating something like AAPI heritage month? The whole month's menu would be dedicated to showcasing different types of cultural foods. My bf would joke and tell me he would take me on a date to Yang's cafe whenever we wanted something special to eat. While it's just tables scattered outside the cafe. We both worked at the hospital, and he would always grab me something he'd know I'd enjoy to eat. And I guess leaves a weirdly special place in my heart. Anyways... food here is amazing. I've worked at countless hospitals and definitely have been spoiled with Yang's cafe. Because other hospital food or service is nothing close to being comparable in food, quality, prices or service. 11-7-24 The positives are that they do have decent food for Breakfast and lunch. I did a grab and go breakfast burrito for $6.49 and a $2.59 coffee at the cafe.. It was hot. The coffee not as hot as I'd like. There's also a Starbucks if you rather spend more. I was here yesterday for lunch and had the Italian wedding soup, the turkey wrap, pepperoni pizza, salad and the seasoned fries. I liked everything. The BAD: I went by to see what they had and it was literally the same pot of soups from lunch all dry and crusty looking, and sadly sits around all day, so if you're not getting a freshly made sandwich I would not eat any of the cafeteria style foods. Service was great, depending on shift change and times you may have a bit of a line. I'm not in a rush so I let the staff go first to check out. Tables are bright and clean. Yoooooooo this hospital cafeteria food is actually BANGIN. Had to run down here as my nephew is taking his SWEET time coming out. Young king making us operate on his time, can't help but respect that. My expectations were BEYOND low for this meal... I was expecting a premade burrito reheated in a microwave. Desperate times. To my suprise, I ordered a breakfast burrito and saw the dude throw the eggs, sausage, and bacon fresh on the griddle and cook them right there. I couldn't believe my eyes. They also had all sorts of different salsas, hot sauces, and other condiments. Locked and LOADED. I bit into that burrito and hit a stank face as if to say "They're making burritos this good in a hospital cafeteria?!?! DAMN!" Pleasant surprises like this every now and then are essential to happiness. You must have peaks to counterbalance the inevitable troughs. Great service and attentiveness. The facility is state-of-the-art. The doctors are very attentive.

Torrance memorial holds a special place in my heart. My son was born here, my loved one frequented here before her passing, and we come to the ER here whenever my kids need something urgent. All these times, I stop by Yang's to pick up some much needed coffee and sustenance. I was surprised by how delicious their freshly grilled items are - love their tuna melt and curly fries! Prices are very reasonable, and food tastes good enough to eat regularly. read more

Torrance Food Crawl #275 Yang Cafe is located on the first floor of the new Main Building at TMH, the newer building that is parallel with Lomita Blvd. I believe this location takes the place of the older cafeteria, at least that's what another person there told me. Hospital cafeterias and cafes are not necessarily destination restaurants, you go to them because you have business (usually not pleasant) at the hospital and you're looking for something to eat. There was a decent set of options: burgers, pizzas, salad bar, etc. The just-made small pizzas looked good but I went with one of the pre-wrapped Breakfast Burritos. My first discovery was that the flour tortilla had become moist and was sticking to the wrapper. I guess that's inevitable for burritos wrapped in foils and then sitting under a heat lamp for a long period of time. The burrito contents included eggs, sausage, potatoes, and cheese. There was very little taste to it. A liberal application of Tapitío helped. But it still was a very average plain breakfast burrito. Generally hospital food, and even the cafes in hospital, have nutritious food. The prices are not high here and there is a nice choice of items to choose from. For a hospital cafe this place rocks. Probably the beat hospital cafe I've seen. My mother spent a week at Torrance Memorial this last November and I frequented the cafe at least once a day. The hours were great, the grill hours were awesome. Always something to eat that was appetizing even if the grill was closed. They have a grill, sandwich station, salad bar, sushi, hot food station as well as pizzas and flatbread and a large selection of drinks and reasonable priced. I enjoyed having lunch or dinner with my mom every day and the workers inside the cafe were very friendly and always smiling. NUMBER 1 HOSPITAL CAFE IN MY OPINION. read more

Was at the hospital emergency room and wanted to get something to eat. I was instructed to try the hospital cafe and thought it would be your typical hospital food mostly tasteless and prepacked warm up stuff. To my surprise most was cooked to order and was prepared fresh and set aside for quick purchase. I purchased the chicken strips with curly fries and let me tell you they were so good, I ate every bit of it and would definitely eat here again and try something else on the menu. I was visiting someone in the hospital and worked up an appetite. I ordered the tuna salad sandwich on the multigrain ciabatta. It was actually very delicious. Not too much mayonnaise, which was nice. They make it right there in front of you. I got it with some red onion and a side of Vickie's Jalapeño Kettle chips. It's a good brand of chips. They have fresh pizzas that they make along with other things. They also have a pre-made area for sandwiches, salads, and pitas. Along with fruit bowls, waters, sodas etc. All of the workers were nice. Pricing wasn't bad either, which was surprising. read more

This is the worst place to eat. One would expect that a hospital cafeteria will serve fresh and healthy food. I have given this place two chances but both times I got sick. I have warned patients not to try food at this place. The food is literally garbage. Administration does a great job running the hospital but unfortunately they are careless running this cafeteria. The BEST hospital food ever. It's hard enough to have a family member in the hospital. At least a good cafeteria, is something to look forward to. Located on the first floor of Torrance Memorial hospital. In the new building. They have daily specials, including Monday's Meatless Monday option. Taco Fridays feature yummy little $1 tacos. There is a nice salad bar with rotating options and Newman's Own salad dressings. There is always a soup, and made to order pizza. Their Enchilada Soup is spicey perfection, especially on a cold day. The grill has lots of options. I love their breakfast omelets and breakfast burritos. They are great about customizing what you want. They feature Guliano's fresh breads. Lots of grab and go options. Lots of healthy options, including vegetarian and vegan. But there are fresh cookies and ice cream when you want to indulge. Cheerful helpful workers. Sometime people play the nearby piano. Had their poke bowl. I know not a place that would have this as their specialty item but it seemed quite popular. So we use our all our senses to eat right? Initally looking it. It looks a bit messy. Could be the mayo sauce just squirted over entire bowl. And with mayo sauce in mind, it was too much of a good thing. Should have squirted lightly. Less would have been better. Unless you are masking something? Smell a little fishy to my liking. Was it the crab meat or the poke( tuna)? A mix of both leaving a fishy taste and probably odor in the mouth. Loved the carrots and asparagus for the crunch And the avocado for the neutral balance. The pickled ginger literally was the topping of it all and it helped to mask or settle the taste buds from the fishy-mess. 3 things that made the taste buds dance with taste and texture. Brown rice was good too. Sadly poke was not the favorite part of this dish. It seems to be cut wrong or not best parts used as it was on chewy side. And it being fishy shows it was not the freshest. Again I know this is not the place to go for poke but if they change it up a bit it can be a winner. Who says hospital food has to be boring? The best part of T.M. was the Yang Cafe. FOOOOOD!!!! The price is cheap and affordable. They don't charge for condiments unlike the North Hills Providence hospital. Coke Zero fountain. Grab and go stuff. Grab and go that is pre-cooked like the burgers and sandwiches and pizza. I got a chicken sandwich wasn't too bad. Nice and moist. Also got a 20 oz Coke Zero fountain drink. Wow for hospital food this place isn't bad. We were visiting grandma & the fam needed a bite so we headed down to the "cafeteria." Man we were impressed. There was different foods to choose from and everything was really cheap. You can actually get a meal for under $10. Try soup for under $5 and they had pudding, chips and snacks too. Also open 11p-3a. For a Hospital this cafe isn't bad. Open grill for hot freshly prepared food. I never purchase any of the pre-made foods. If I get a breakfast burrito I always order it fresh. The best things are the soups. This place was really good to my surprise. It was also reasonably priced. I will return. One star off because they have times where its open but they won't serve you because they are preparing other food. I get that but it is a little lame to have to pick what's just sitting out there already getting old if you need to eat in those between times. read more

The options for food are extremely decent compared to most other hospitals. The salads are decent, the fresh fruit leaves a little to be desired. I would give four stars but the woman who is the cashier in the middle of the day is a little short and not very friendly. Whenever I am at other hospitals' gift shops or cafeterias, staff is very cognizant that family present may be going through some stuff, and provde gentle and friendly service. She makes you feel uncomfortable and like you're bothering her when you order during down times. She tried to have another conversation with an employee in the middle of one of my transactions, ignoring me. Overall not impressed with her service. read more

A hidden Gem inside of a hospital! They have a variety of vegetarian options. Gourmet dinners, that are actually the types of dinners you order at upscale restaurants. They make burgers and fries, omelets, personal pizza, muffins, two soups of the day. One vegetarian and one not. A salad bar. They make subs, sandwiches, lettuce wraps. Falafels!!! And Mexican food. A refrigerated section with pre-made sandwiches. Hummus, yogurts. Fresh fruit such as fresh grapes, raspberries, blueberries, cranberries, cantaloupe, honeydew, mangoes. Fresh health conscious soft drinks as well as the sugary kind we see everywhere. A chips, salsa and my all time favorite,split pea soup! Check it out. Doctors, nurses, health care professionals including Police Officers, Firemen, and Visitors eat together in a Grand Mid-century decorated dining room with a Grand Piano at the entrance to the Cafe. . The selection of food is miserable, but the food comes straight off the grill. It's a great service to visitors of the hospital. The surrounding area is well established with great take out, but convenience is the 4th star here. 3 star service and quality, 4th star for not tasting like overpriced microwavable food. read more
