I went to this restaurant for the first time a couple of months ago. The staff were attentive and made some recommendations as it was my first visit. I was actually excited at the thought of possibility finding a go-to Mexican restaurant close to my house. I brought my food home and within a few bites of eating my torta, I felt a little off. I ate about a fourth of the sandwich and just waited. Sure enough, an hour later came the dreaded sickness. I do not have a sensitive stomach, but this place gave me my first bout of food poisoning in decades. Without a doubt, I know it was a result of the torta. I won't be returning. I was afraid this place would have the so called Mexican authentic taste that Taco Bell claims because in the area its located. To my surprise, it's legit Mexican food. I normally have the chicken burrito. The chicken isn't dry or overly marinated, but just right. The bottled water they offer is Nestlé Pure Life(flouride free) for any of those that mind. I love going to Tortas Mexico for take out food. The staff has always been very friendly and accommodating. If I have a large order, they help me to my car. The food is MADE FRESH WHEN YOU ORDER and all of the ingredients are FRESH. So, if you don't call ahead...you need to wait for them to prepare it for you. So that I don't have to wait, I have started calling in my order before I leave work...and then just pick it up on the way home. My personal favorite is the Ensalada Mexicana because it is a low-cal, yet yummy dinner or lunch. I have it topped with chopped Carne Asada or Pollo and use their fresh salsa for my dressing. For my husband, and when I am not on a diet, I order the tacos, taquitos and tortas and we enjoy them all. Some of you say they are expensive...but as we all know "you get what you pay for". Great food, great service, huge dishes, And cheap!!!

We usually take the food to go but you can eat there. It takes a bit of time for the food to come but it is worth it. I get the carne asada torta most times. The bread MAKES it but the whole thing is great. Unfortunately, sometimes you get a sub par meal which is severely disappointing when you know how great the food can be. The nachos are AMAZING, too. Definitely a meal you can't finish on your own. Well, I can't. That thing is so jam packed and piled high with all the wonderful things that SHOULD be in nachos. They are never skimpy on the good stuff. The burritos are great according to my boyfriend and his family. I would totally recommend giving this place a try. read more

I eat here often usually to pick up. But I do need to say these girls need to GET IT TOGETHER. I dined in and it took one hour to get my food. I had to remind them I was there to actually order my food. Not such a great experience today. I might come back and right a better review. Good food nice people. We had a Groupon for this place and wanted to try it out. I would stay away. The service was average at best. They weren't prepared to deal with the Groupon, so that took several minutes. Additionally, we called the order in and they told us 15 minutes to pick up. I arrived at the specified time and the food was not ready. The employees just told me to take a seat and wait. As I watched the employees, it turned out that my food was ready, but no one had boxed it up. The food just sat there getting cold. Upon getting home, we started eating and things went down hill fast. The fish tacos were absolutely inedible. It tasted so bad. The meals for the kids were not good either. My wife and I tried everything. The chips were very hard and definitely not fresh. With so many good Mexican restaurants in the area, I would recommend that you stay away and try the others. read more

**Disclaimer: review is not about the food** This is the first negative review I've written. We had never eaten here before and wanted to try it out. We placed an order with them through Eat24. 55 minutes later, we still hadn't received our food (delivery estimate of 45 mins). I called them up, and some lady told me that they called the number I had provided and whoever picked up said they hadn't placed an order. She then proceeded to get mad at ME and give ME attitude when I told her she must have called the wrong number, because I received no such call. She was SO incredibly rude for no apparent reason. I'm the one who should be annoyed, waiting so long for food that never came. As a business, shouldn't you ask the person you call AT LEAST their name to make sure you're talking to the intended party?? I don't understand why she acted so horribly with me. She then went on to tell me that the reason she called in the first place was to inform me that they don't do poached eggs. I then asked, "So why is it on your menu?" She responded, with attitude again, "I don't know." You should probably make sure your menu on Eat24 reflects your ACTUAL menu. Horrible person. Horrible way to run a business. I was so disappointed in the food here, i was hoping we would love this spot as we live so close and love a nice good Mexican food spot. The torta was their best pick for me as i wanted to try what they thought was good. It was with ham and it was so bland, did not seem fresh at all. The little beef and chicken tacos tasted like they were old left over pieces. Lastly their shrimp ceviche was suppose to be good as recommended and it was tasteless. Lastly, i ended up spending over $50 for 2 people. I am sad to say how unhappy i am because the girl at the counter was super friendly and helpful. I used to go to another Mexican place in Montrose that I had been going to for 19 years! I tried this place once, and have not stopped going back. The staff is really nice, my son loves the food and asks to go there every time we are in the area, I work up here, so my lunches 2-3 or more times a week consist of some food from Tortas, Carne Asada tacos, yummy home made corn tortialls.. everything I have tried so far, is GREAT! And everyone I know is starting to go, work associates, friends and family! YAY Tortas You're #1! read more

This place was horrible- service as well as food. Ordered a chicken tostada bowl. And it was so soggy and juice was leaking out of it. It was so plain and didn't fill me up at all. Customer service was awful. There were no more lids to the sauce containers and asking for one seemed to be such a hassle to the employees. You would think this place would have decent authentic Mexican food but you're wrong. The pictures on their website are not what you get in reality. That's it, we're not coming back! After being a regular customer for about 4 years, my family won't be spending another dime in this restaurant. The service has really gone downhill lately. Whenever we order in, we have to check to make sure they got the order right - and often it's not. This evening my wife ordered and picked up dinner there. When she got home and started unpacking everything she noticed that they got the order all wrong. So, she called and told them what had happened and asked if they could get a replacement ready and give us a few new tortillas since the ones we got were going to be cold by the time she drove all the way there and back. The girl at the counter said it was OK. Then, she called us back a few minutes later saying that she spoke to the manager and he didn't want to give us new tortillas - he said that we should just reheat what they gave us. WTF?!?! It's not our job to reheat food. Especially when they screwed it up so bad in the first place. My poor wife had to put her clothes back on, drive all the way over there to get the food we should have gotten in the first place and drive all the way back (using up OUR gas to do so). Unbelievable! To make things worse, they didn't even apologize to my wife. When the manager saw her come in, he went into the kitchen until she left. What kind of business does this sort of thing to regular customers who spend a lot of money in their restaurant? What an a$$hat! From now on, we'll be ordering from La Cabanita. it's a few dollars more but the food is better and they know how to get an order right. Plus, they don't have a problem loading you up with chips and salsa. Every time we'd order from Tortas, it was like pulling teeth to get a second bag of chips to go with our two or three entrees. I grew up in La Crescenta and when I was in high school (many years ago) there was a popular hole-in-the-wall tortas place in La Crescenta, close to Tujunga. I used to reminisce fondly about the torta from there but in the years since hs I hadn't really been back. I had heard that they had moved and when I saw this place while vising a friend I thought maybe this was it so I decided to pick up lunch for us from here. I got the carnitas torta and got her a 3 mini taco (carne asada) combo. Sadly the torta was not what I remembered. It seemed to be missing some zing and I could only describe it was being just ok. My friend said she liked her tacos but I feel like it's sort of hard to mess up on tacos, no? So all in all, if I lived in La Crescenta I'd probably end up eating here or ordering from here often out of convenience (I read in reviews that they have delivery) but since I don't, I definitely won't be seeking it out. read more

I recently moved into the area and was looking for a Mexican restaurant I could rely on for all my Mexican cravings. After looking at all my local options, the reviews seemed the best for this one so I called and placed my order for 2 burritos, 1 asada and 1 carnitas along with a asada quesadilla. My total came out to $31.17 I made my way there, excited to try my "future go to spot." The service was ok, nothing to rave or hate about it. They could have been nicer but I'm not mad about it (it is like 100 outside). However, I was very disappointed with the food. Both my burritos( my husband and I split each burrito) had very little meat and the meat it did have was so dry, making it hard to swallow. I was glad to have ordered the quesadilla because it was the only thing I somewhat enjoyed eating. For spending the amount of money that I did, I did not feel that it was worth it and was left pretty upset at the end of our meal. I don't think I will be coming back which is disappointing because i had such high hopes for this to be the restaurant that I could count on. read more

I've never sat down and eaten here, but for quick, authentic, take-out Mexican, this place is one of the best. The tacos are now $1.50, but they're still excellent and affordable. Three small steak (asada) tacos + chips & salsa out the door for $5 and you're in line for a very satisfying meal. I got the burrito one time and it is absolutely massive, I couldn't finish it all in one sitting. I've been here several times, mostly because I pass it on my way to Vons and when I get a hankering for some Mexican food, it's RIGHT THERE. I would go mostly for convenience, rather than for the food itself. Not that the food was bad. It was OK. But the service went from bad to worse. Last few visits, we seem to have been forgotten. I've seen people get up and get their own salsa and water because they got tired of waiting. And after such a long wait, with no water, the order that gets brought out was entirely wrong. To top it off, there was no apology, no effort by anybody there to make things right. They kind of just shrug their shoulders as if to say, "Oh well, we really don't need your business." Well, OK. I think I got the message now. It makes me sad because I think the folks that work there are all nice people -- but whoever owns or runs this restaurant has no idea how to manage it. We have been going here for years. We love their breakfast burrito, and in the evening the taco combo or the carnitas family pack is our favorite for dinner. I love to get the food from Tortas!! They have reasonable prices. I use to order for delivery but they started to charge $5 and I sometimes had my food delivered cold. That's why now if I really want one of their Tortas I order to go and pick it up after work. read more

A month ago I would've given them 4 stars, but lately the quality and quantity isn't there.I'm a regular at the tujunga location and usually order the carne asada burrito and the last couple of times, they've been puny. Mostly tortilla and not much filling. Had a chile cheese tamale that was totally dried out. Staff seems to have changed. Ben to the montrose location with a friend and he thought it was pretty descent Mexican food (coming from someone who should know). Hopefully they'll fix whatever issue they're having. read more
