I was excited to come here because the fish quality looked good from the Yelp photos and it was super close by. We all got the sushi & sashimi combination for $35. The order took a bit to come out, and when it did, we were all so surprised by the size. It was a very small portion, so we all had to eat another dinner afterwards lol. A bit disappointed last night. I generally look forward to Friday dinners as it is our unofficial date night and we had noticed this restaurant whenever we drove past it several times recently. I remember seeing this restaurant suggested on my yelp page as well, so when we decided to give this place a try last night for our weekly date night, I was a tad excited Parking is in their small lot and the street. The interior of the restaurant is small and clean. But where this restaurant fell terribly terribly short was their service When we arrived, I noticed that there was someone who was waiting to place a to go order of some sort. She told us to go ahead. It took a minute for the host to get to us and seat us down. Once we were seated, we waited a good 20 minutes. We spent those 20 minutes being largely ignored. Any attempt to make eye contact with a waitress to have our order taken was avoided by said waitress. I initially tried to give them the benefit of the doubt as there appeared to be only one or two people serving the restaurant (which wasn't crowded by the way. There were about 4 small parties other than us seated at the time.) What upset me though was that they didn't even acknowledge us. They just seated us at a table, gave us menus then ignored us. There was a table of two men dining next to ours where the waitress would go up to serve. I tried to get her attention when she'd go up to them but she would avoid eye contact with me. This happened more than once during our time there. The other person waiting on tables seemingly disappeared. No one came to check on us, or to at least say "sorry I'll be with you in just a second." This went on for at least 20 minutes. After being ignored for so long, we just walked out. When we walked out and returned the menus, they didn't even acknowledge us. The lady waiting for to go order was still waiting. It didn't feel great and it sort of ruined the excitement of date night for me. read more

Simple but excellent sushi. Very good fish quality and the sides are just as delicious. The karaage, takoyaki and even the natto are all superb. We ordered each of the sushi combinations and were pleasantly surprised by the taste and the price (very reasonable). Pro Tip- if you're into unagi, ask them for a small slice of butter on top. This is the next best thing if you are a sushi lover. Hospitality was over the top - they are always there and willing to answer any questions, especially Toshi! He's an absolutely amazing chef, serving us the most melting pieces of fish ever. On this visit, we ordered the Toshi sushi combination, the sushi and sashimi combination and the black cod appetizer. Black cod was juicy, tender and melt in your mouth. Would order again. Sushi and sashimi from the combination was also melt in your mouth. No piece of fish was left out in Toshi's care and you can tell that it's quality fish with quality craftsmanship. This is now one of my favorites in Gardena and I'll be bringing my own friends over to try it next time! read more

This is still my absolute favorite sushi place. The service is always amazing the quality of fish Espectacular, anything that you get here is super delicious the play the place is always super clean. I've been to many sushi places in my lifetime and nothing compares to this place I've been here now over 15 times and I will continue to come back here. I know and am friends with some of the most famous and well-known Sushi chefs and restaurants in Los Angeles and New York. My daughter started eating sushi/sashimi at four years old. She is 41, so we have some credibility in making this statement. "Toshi's restaurant is equal to some of the best restaurants we have eaten at and is better and fresher than some." They always welcome you in with warm energy and the owner makes a point to go and greet everyone, as long as they arnt slammed haha. We will be coming back to Toshi for as long as we can. Recently I had their live octopus and scallops and just about died, they were so delicious. For my non fish eaters out there, you are not alone! My partner doesn't love fish, but he LOVES the non seafood options here. The teriyaki is delicious and the toshi fries are great for the less adventurous guests. Above all, the quality of the food is incredible. If for any reason you have an issue, the staff is quick to make it right. While parking in their parking lot can be a challenge when crowded, there is a huge shipping center right next door that you can park at. I've been three times already and everything I've tried is delicious. This last time, I ordered the deluxe omakase and I was not disappointed. At the price point and quality, it is totally worth it. Perfect balance of sushi items, cooked items, and dessert to wrap up the delicious meal. He always comes around to your table to greet you and thank you for coming which is always a great personal touch. Ok, just know that Toshi Sushi is a gem of a find here in North Hollywood. Small and authentic basic Shinjuko, Tokyo vibe. Not fancy at all, not over priced. This place opened recently near my place and I had to try since sushi is one of my favorite food. The interior is clean and neatly decorated. The servers are all very friendly and attentive. I really appreciated their service and attention to my needs as a customer. I was very much looking forward to the omakase and it was a nice meal. The special was ankimo, which I love, but I actually felt the flavor was a bit bland unfortunately. It was still a nice start though. The omakase was very customizable and the server had asked me what I liked, how hungry I was, and what kind of dietary restrictions I had, which was very nice of them. I pretty much eat anything in front of me, so I asked her to do anything that the chef recommends. The sushi platter came out with 12 pieces and it looked great. There were some fresh gems like nodoguro and golden eyed snapper, which are expensive cuts of fish, and that got me very excited. The fish meat was all fresh and well prepared and overall it was a nice omakase meal, but one thing that bothered me was the rice... It felt under seasoned and didn't have much of a sushi vinegar flavor, which through me off a bit. It wasn't bad or unbearable, but I wish the rice had a little more flavor. That all said, this is still a very nice place and I hope to come back again in the future if I'm in the area and craving sushi. read more

I would say this place is up there with Sugarfish, in terms of quality of sushi, freshness and taste. I had the sushi and sashimi combo and enjoyed every bite, with the possible exception of the octopus, which I'm just not a fan of in general. The tuna, salmon, yellowtail, were all phenomenally delicious and I can't wait to go back for more. The service was great as well. I went for dinner to catch up with a friend and we had a great time chatting in a booth and didn't feel rushed. Yes, it's a little pricier than some other spots, but you get what you pay for.
