Toshi sushi will forever be one of our family's favorite places! We came here tonight to celebrate my birthday and everything was absolutely perfect. My parents ordered the tempura zaru soba and hamachi kama. The rest of us got the special omakase -- it was so delicious and so filling! I am still thinking about that otoro sushi / sashimi and will probably dream about it tonight lol. Toshi-san even came by our table multiple times to check in on us and he was so kind and personable! Sushi Toshi is such a hidden gem - we did their Omakase and it was really delicious, cozy and different than other Omakase places. This wasn't some super high-end experience and they don't give you the sushi one piece at a time even if you sit at the bar, but the quality is there! //CONTEXT// I came here twice for Omakase. Once for the premium one and another time for the standard ons. I didn't think the premium was worth the price jump to be honest (I got premium and my brother got the normal one our first visit) - the only different is they gave us a big broiled fish for premium and the normal one they gave us a smaller broiled fish - and on one of the uni pieces the premium had full uni and the normal one had half uni half ikura. //ENVIRONMENT// Cozy, clean and no frills! There are a good amount of small tables and there is a bar but honestly there's no point in sitting at the bar for Omakase. (See below) //FOOD// Omakase consisted of a starter plate with sashimi, a oyster, and other small raw bites. This is one of my favorite parts of the course There is a lot more cooked food in the Omakase - I chose the dumpling which was homemade! It was so perfect! We had a oyster shooter which I wouldn't recommend - I think there was way too much sake and it was really hard to drink. Chawanmushi was pretty good and had protein inside. It lacked a bit of flavor though in my opinion. The sushi was also amazing - their toro or bluefin tuna is butter! It's one of the best I've had. It all comes on one plate though. Their miso soup with clams is delicious, homemade tofu and dessert! //SERVICE// We chose to be seated at the bar and requested to get the sushi served one at a time. The waiter acted like she asked but I don't think she did and they gave us the sushi all at once. I think I need to make more money so I can eat at Toshi Sushi more often. That fish just melted in my mouth. Every. Single. Piece. The chirashi bowl was simple, but with the essence of prime quality sashimi executed at its finest. The temperature they served the fish at was incredibly on point at getting my taste buds tantalized. The portions were on the smaller side, with little rice on the bottom. It was perfect for me and my sister. Our husbands, with big appetites, were on a separate itinerary so it worked out, but had they come, they would've needed 3 bowls each. There are more filling items on the menu, but we were after the fish and were satisfied. The kids menu satisfied our kids. It doesn't come with raw fish but you can upgrade for a fee. The kids meal came on a cool boat set up and the kids wanted to take the bowls home but that's not part of the deal. The service was nice and the sushi man came to check on us and was friendly. The restaurant isn't set up for big groups but there was a group of about dozen or so, accommodated by putting the tables together, so it's possible. read more

Wonderful experience! When my party of 5 got here the entire couple of blocks were experiencing a power outage and they told us they could only serve sushi since the gas was also turned off. Luckily that is exactly what we came for and we decided to stay. They were very accommodating, really nice, and the sushi was delicious. We ordered the yellowtail roll, spicy tuna roll, sushi combination, and the red dragon roll. Prices are reasonable for sushi as well. My friends and I went to a previous sushi restaurant before coming here, but had to change locations due to an overwhelming wait time. Searching up the nearing sushi restaurant with a high rating, we found Toshi Sushi and immediately wanted to try it out. We called the restaurant to ask about wait times and hours, and the woman who answered the phone was kind and tried to help as much as she could with our questions, considering her (noticeable) lack of English-speaking skills. The sushi restaurant is very cutely decorated and a nice environment for a date night dinner or spontaneous dinner trip--like my friends and I had done this night. Our server was the same woman who had answered our earlier call, and she had remembered our voice! We were sat very quickly because we went in close to closing hours. For appetizers, my friends and I shared the Garlic Edamame (highly recommend), Spicy Creamy Popcorn Shrimp (it was good, shrimp was on the smaller side though), and Toki-Wasa(?) (**the octopus appetizer! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!; taste is so different in a good way, loved the wasabi with the octopus). We also ordered Miso soups, which were delicious as well. For sushi, my friends and I ordered the Spicy Salmon cut roll/hand roll (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!), Spider cut roll (decent; cooked sushi!; it was good, but I wasn't MUNCHING on it as much as a lot of other sushi that was ordered), Spicy Tuna cut roll/hand roll (highly recommend), and the Shrimp Tempura cut roll (HIGHLY RECOMMEND). **We ordered more than what is listed, but I can't remember the names. I just left from Toshi Sushi few minutes ago. This is my first time to try Omakase, their lunch Omakase served 5 courses and 1 dessert. I heard at dinner time Omakase is a little different. Chef Toshi and lady server, they are very friendly, kindly greeting, and have a very warm welcome. They really made my day, I feel happy and still smile until now. If you are looking for Omakase around Torrance, Redondo, Gardena, I recommend Toshi Sushi. For me I don't think the price is expensive because their food is fresh, and something is homemade. Wow, what a gem! Toshi used to have a restaurant in Little Tokyo from 2008-2017, then decided to move to the south bay. When you enter the nondescript parking lot, you may have second thoughts but make your way inside and be blown away. The service is excellent. Everyone inside hustles to get things done. Interior decor is nice, and for drinkers they have a full option of wine, sake, and even Echigo beer on tap. But most of all, the food is why you come here. I ordered Omakase, which means chef's choice. This is what you want when you go to a good place. This is a multi course meal. It came with black cod, shishito pepper, and an array of sashimi, including a yuzu ika, tako with a small amount of ginger stalk (so good and palate cleansing), a rich chicken broth chawanmushi, seafood miso, and an array of amazing sushi. The chutoro brought me right back to sushi restaurants in Japan. The Golden Snapper, Black Snapper (from Europe), and seared salmon were the best things I've eaten in a long time. They cap off the onakase with dessert. Finally, please also be sure to try the zaru soba. They IMPORT their soba noodles from Nagano, Japan. So worth it. read more

Salmon sushi - Not on the sushi menu they provided, but they made it no problem when I asked. The salmon tasted fresh and was a great price. The tuna tasted so fresh & they provided just the perfect amount of sauce. The spiciness of the tuna was not over powering and it was so enjoyable. Soba - SOOOOO refreshing and delicious. Perfect summer comfort food ! Our server informed us of the yam side dish that I've never had with Soba before. She advised us to put it in the dipping sauce and I'm so glad I listened to her! It added a little something to the texture of the noodles (its hard to describe, but it was good!) & I feel like it helped the sauce stick to the noodles or the noodles absorb the sauce more or something bc the flavor of the dipping sauce/broth tasted enhanced! This is an amazing sushi spot! We ordered one regular chirashi bowl & one sushi / sashimi combo. Both were that melt in your mouth, tasty, high quality sushi that is hard to come across. Not to mention, pricing is very good for this quality sushi! Our orders came with a delicious home-made (not powdered) miso soup, and salad! For dessert, we ordered a slice of tiramisu, which was also just as delicious as their sushi! Pre-COVID, Toshi Sushi used to be Painter's Tape, a place that we genuinely loved. It switched owners in the early post-pandemic days (we found out from the chef that the owners of Painter's Tape are family friends of the owners of Toshi Sushi!), and despite us wanting to try it out, there was never the right time. We finally did, though, and honestly--I'm mad it took so long, because this is my new favorite sushi spot. We both ordered the special omakase, which rounds out to $99 a person. Before the meal began, we were given a complimentary seaweed and cucumber salad from the chef, which was really nice and refreshing. Honestly, I'm having a lot of trouble trying to narrow down exactly what was my favorite. The toro was phenomenal, the blue fin fresh, the uni some of the best I've ever tasted. The roasted blue fin cheek was perfectly cooked and had that same buttery and flavorful consistency of roasted bone marrow. The carpaccio was delicious and the tiramisu was mind blowing. I really liked the chawanmushi--I've never had that before, and it's a really light yet savory custard dish with mushroom and narutomaki. There was one dish with cooked daikon, and the daikon (something I'm not normally a fan of) was perfect. Every round was carefully thought out and all the flavors were equally balanced, and overall it was a really great experience. We eat a lot, and while the omakase was filling, everything was so good that we ordered some nigiri and hand rolls after the omakase, and not a single thing we ordered wasn't a heavy hitter. Like, genuinely, it was perfect. The staff were very attentive and kind, and the chef came out to talk to us twice. His wife is the owner, and while we didn't meet her, he was joking and laughing with us and we could clearly tell he really loves what he does and there's passion behind it. At one point while we were there, a couple came in that clearly had been there more than once, and were greeted warmly by the staff like they were just old friends coming over to visit. Which honestly is something I look for in a place, I love restaurants that build camaraderie with their patrons and take the time to see how they're doing and remember their faces. We said on our way out that we'd be coming back for my birthday in October, and I 100% meant that. Hopefully, though, it won't have to be that long before we come back. My husband and I drove by last week and saw the grand opening sign so we decided to try it out. We called in to make reservations for yesterday (Friday night 6p). When we got there, the restaurant was up and running. There was one sushi chef and three waitresses. My husband ordered the chirashi with uni and I ordered the sashimi and sushi combination. The quality of the sushi was excellent/very fresh. I take a star off for the following reasons- We ordered the karage and egg roll appetizers to share. Both the karage and egg roll tasted okay. The waitress actually brought out our egg roll extremely late. With one chef, the food took even longer to come out and the piece of uni was not worth the additional 7 dollars. Overall, I would go back for the quality of the food but would encourage some better communication between the service staff. read more
