Totem is definitely a local staple. Not somewhere you should eat at too often if you value blood moving unrestricted through your veins but still great. Place is cute and always has fun notes on the sign outside. The food is good, nothing different than any other decent diner but my big issue is how oily everything is. Even toast without butter is so oily. Coffee is legit best diner coffee I've ever had. That being said, the reason this place is 4 stars and not 3 is the service. I have never had a bad dining experience here. If I was rating on service alone it would be a perfect 5. read more

Ugh this place does not impress me. This is my second time going and first of all.. their menu is tooo busy looking. It's not a good look when there's so much on the menu... huge menu along with a full page of just month's specials. Kind of ridiculous. I ended up ordering the grilled chicken & bacon sandwich with guacamole. It came with ciabatta bread and fresh cut fries. My toddler got their expensive Jr. pancake meal for $10.95. My sandwich arrived soggy AF with so much guacamole and mayo in it along with melted cheese. It was not good and barely ate it. Fries were soggy as well.. no crisp. Tasted old. My daughter's meal was just okay. Only good thing was the bacon. I don't understand why this place is so popular. There are waaay better brunch spots out there. I probably won't ever return. read more

First time in for quite some time and it was definitely packed with the lunch crowd! We put our name on the list and were seated in about ten minutes, the service was friendly and knowledgeable. The ambiance is relaxed like a classic diner, the wait staff were all kept very busy but seemed to manage decently. The Eggs Benedict was not as expected, the sauce is very cheesy tastings rather than buttery, and the O'Brien potatoes are very hearty. The fried clams were cooked perfectly, and the waffle fries excellent. We will be back again to try a bit more of the menu, as they seem to have quite a few vegetarian options to choose from. read more

Totem has been a great family establishment for quite some time. Been there many times. The staff is very quick and friendly. We stopped by on a Sunday this time for lunch. Got there close to noon and there was still quite a wait(weekends in general be prepared for 30-1hr wait). There were 4 of us and we were told 30 minutes. Luckily they overshot and it was maybe 10. The menu here can be daunting if you do not know what you want. Mostly everything I have ever had here is good. This time I ordered the shrimp po boy. This was the first time I can say I did not enjoy the meal. It was dry and needing a bit more sauce and veggies. I have ordered many different things here and I was bound to be satisfied just once. My wife ordered the eggs Benedict and my sister ordered the Patty melt and chicken strips for the niece. The fries are always great and like I said it was a first that I wasn't a fan of what I ordered. The Benedict and Patty melt are solid choices just as an fyi. The portions are large and the price is reasonable. Probably one of the best breakfasts in town. The seating is tight, and the restaurant has a very family feel. Weekdays are usually the better route as there are long waits on the weekend. I will continue to stop by here when I'm in the mood for a good breakfast or lunch! read more

I know a 49ers sweatshirt ha ha. Crazy thing is I have wanted to stop here forever and I finally did. If I knew how to waitress I would want to work here because it felt like you were at Cheers (tv show). Everyone knew everyone's name, the waitresses and waiter were super friendly. They had their regular customers, they knew what they wanted to order. It was just great, the food was delicious but you need to get there early cause it gets crazy busy there. I wish they had egg salad sandwiches that would have made my year. The ambiance was like a home style diner and you can't forget about the advertisement board on the totem pole outside. I love reading it when I drive by. So go check it out and you will feel like you're sitting next to Norm. read more

So no photo this time but suffice it to say that the presentation was not the problem with this visit. But I can definitely tell that the days of getting plates of hot food out of kitchens anywhere has definitely come to an end and is one of the biggest reasons why the restaurant industry struggles with return customers. I used to come to this restaurant a lot when my son was first born and the atmosphere back then was so much more homey and everyone was treated like family but like the legend of the hot food, I'm afraid this to will no longer be found anywhere either. Thanks for reminding me why I won't be coming back here anymore and I hope the people that read this won't waste their time or their hard earned money here. read more

This is a top notch diner that has been around for quite a while. I found this through Yelp and what a great find it was. The place is kept super clean and is relatively updated without it feeling modern. It holds that classic diner feel. The food choices are immense and what we had at our table was outstanding. The servers were all very friendly and kept everything topped off without being intrusive. We had a great experience and will definitely make a point to come back when in the area. read more

Husbae and I are globetrotting again. This time Everett WA and I found this little gem on Yelp while trying to calm some hangry grandkids. The wait was about 20 mins on a Saturday morning for 4. Quaint environment and not much space yet just enough to seat a decent crowd. Puts you in the mind of those 70's diner type vibe. I'm sure some of the waitstaff exceeded that era but all helpful and nice. Pancakes and sausage were devoured by two 6 year olds and they kept asking to go back after we'd left. Two picky eaters so I was impressed. I ordered pork chops and eggs with potatoes O'Brien all very tasty. husband created his own scramble. The portion sizes are stupid big and shareable. This place was great for breakfast! Quite busy so you know it's good and well loved, the got us in pretty quickly, the food was very high quality and good prices. The bacon was thick cut and well cooked! This place is everything I expected for a classic American diner experience. Great service and delicious food. I came alone and sat at the bar and received super speedy service. I started with a hot chocolate which was delicious, tall whipped cream and good strong chocolate flavor without being too sweet. I was craving biscuit and gravy and hashbrowns so I ordered the monster. Lol this was huge! I recommend splitting with two or three other people, I had leftovers for days! read more

We've been coming here for many years and everything is always great. Huge and delicious portions, friendly staff, great service, and really clean. Get there early for breakfast because it can get busy. Parking on both sides of the building and along the street behind the building. Kid's meals are a solid amount of food- full sized pancakes and french toast. Hubby and I usually split a savory dish (like eggs Benedict or one of the omelettes) and have on occasion also split one of the seasonal sweet plates. read more

As an older person, coming into a nostalgic place is heartwarming. Not only do you remember the time period, you have nice memories of childhood. So I welcomed Totem Family dining. Lots of retro touches to the building and restaurant, including the Totem pole. As you come in, a busy and crowded atmosphere. Lots of people with huge plates of delicious looking food, amidst a swarm of buzzing servers around them. was seated at a booth and given a menu and choice of beverage selection. Ordered the springtime Migas. These are " We start with our hearty four-egg scramble and over fill it with our authentic Longanisa sausage, crisp warm tortilla strips, zesty gooey Pepper-jack cheese, all topped off with fresh Avocado salsa! Served with your choice of Hash browns or Obrien potatoes. - Add toast & freezer jam 1.95 18.75" Dang, you order these with O'Brien potatoes plus the toast and jam and you are in heaven. I enjoyed the experience a tad more than the food. Great servers, working hard to make sure you enjoy your meal. So welcome when comparing current service in most restaurants. Great pictures and reviews. Food delivered fresh and hot. This place is a treasure and recommend coming here. read more

We visited Totem Family Dining based on the reviews here on Yelp and I couldn't be happier to add another 5* review. We were greeted warmly by Cheri (who also served us) and seated within moments of walking through the door. We didn't need coffee and the cups were quickly removed and replaced with water glasses. We took about five minutes to decide on our meal and the server came shortly after we put our menus to the side. Our juices arrived within a minute or so. I think they're standard from-concentrate fare, but still tasted good and matched the meal well. The grapefruit was especially welcome - it was sweetened to the point where it didn't have a bitter edge but not cloyingly sweet. It paired really well with our heavier dishes. Food took about ten minutes to arrive and was in the pass less than fifteen seconds before it was picked up for delivery. My eggs Benedict was good but not the best I've had. The hollandaise sauce could've used a touch more lemon but still tasted good. The hashbrowns could have been cooked a bit more, but were done enough to thoroughly enjoy. The European French toast was divine through: the bread was thick, soft, and chewy with the top/bottom crunch and well toasted. The seasoning was perfect and the crunchy almonds on top paired well with the dish. The side of bacon was thick and well cooked - crunchy but not burned. It's hard to cook bacon perfectly for everyone but I think they found a safe, balanced middle ground. About five minutes into our meal, the server checks on our experience and drops off the bill, "There's no rush, but here's your check whenever you're ready." Perfect diner handling. We finish our meal, put a card out, and a different server picks it up and runs it within a minute as our server is busy handling her other tables. Our tab was about $45 before tip. Not cheap for diner fare, but worth every penny and I'd gladly come back. read more

Totem Family Dining in Everett is so good, it's worth flying in from California for (and I should know, since I do just that to get my fix)! The food is out of this world, and the service? Top-notch! Be prepared for a short wait, but trust me, it's like waiting for a concert to start - it's worth it! Their bacon is the real MVP (I come back for it every time), and don't even get me started on the biscuits and gravy (amazing!), hash-browns (crispy perfection!), and tomato juice (aka the virgin Bloody Mary, thanks for the laugh, server!). Our server was a hoot, and kept us hydrated and caffeinated all morning long. Five stars, two thumbs up, and a big ol' plate of bacon - can't wait to come back! read more

Superb! Chef's kiss to my breakfast this morning. Service was equally as good, staff is very warm and friendly. Coffee is nice and strong, cannot find a bad thing to say. Place was packed too, even more kudos to the cooks back there because they were short handed and still worked quickly to get everyone served. I have been craving Eggs Benedict for a while and because of COVID, we have not gone out to brunch at a restaurant in a year. So this past Sunday we were on our way home from Arlington, and I decided to search the area for Eggs Benedict to go and came across Totem. I called in and ordered: - Eggs Benedict with hash browns - came out to around $18+ For the price, I thought it was a bit expensive. When we got there, my food wasn't ready yet, so I waited in the front of the restaurant. They do have dine in right now, and when I was there Sunday late morning, the wait time to get seated was 35 minutes, so it was busy. They have put up dividers for COVID, but the restaurant isnt that big. Once we got home with my to go order, I dug right in and it was pretty tasty! Their hollandaise sauce was delicious. Will definitely have to go back and dine in when the world calms down a bit more. read more

This place is the epitome of a local diner. I think that I was the only guy in the place that the staff did not know by name. They offer quite an extensive menu at the end of the day, it's all diner food (which is not a bad thing). The place was clean, the service was quick, the food was hot and tasty. I didn't find anything particularly magical about the place. I imagine that they owe their survival to those basic tenants of quality, quick, clean, and service. It can be so hard to find these days. I'm glad that I found the Totem. read more

Great food! I love to come here for breakfast when I'm in the area. My husband and kid and I share a chicken fried steak breakfast and pancake. Service is always fast and friendly. Great coffee too! This place defines the word good service! It's tiny inside with parking on either side of the restaurant, so it doesn't matter what side you approach the restaurant. The food here was one of the best breakfast-wise. The loaded french toast was good. Wasn't expecting it to come with bacon and eggs, but it did, so it made the food portion sizing amazing. The feel of the place takes you back to old mom-and-pop diners of people who genuinely care about quality over quantity. I'll 100% be coming back here to try other menu items. read more

Best classic diner around the greater Everett area! Food: You have to come here for the the French toast, they have this cream that's house made and it's literally heaven. My boyfriend got the chicken fried steak with gravy, that was okay to me but I'm also not a fan of chicken fried steak in general. Service: Our server was nice and always came to check on us! Ambience: It was your classic diner, looked like it was a favorite for a lot of local older folks. Other: Price was average and parking gets packed so I suggest parking on the side. read more

Read the hype for years, decades even and FINALLY I decided to see what the hubbub was all about. First of all if you make reservations ALL in your party HAVE to be present or you will not be seated. Parking...good luck. You'll be bleeding out into the streets. Luckily I am familiar with the area and found the back way to get there. If you take 99 you'll be bound by the traffic. The place is retro 80s maybe even disco 70s, very small and their hours are pretty tight and defined. In the winter I can see an issue with having to wait while the doors on both sides are open. Brrr. But I will say that they serve large portions. The staff are veterans, kind, speedy and courteous. Thank you for the lovely time and service Totem, like Covid...I'll be back. read more

I just love this place! The waitresses are efficient and attentive, always keeping the coffee cups topped up, and the cooks are amazing! Two waitresses will bring out multiple plates together so everyone at the table gets their meals at the same time. The Totem is always packed with diners, but the wait time for orders is never long. The kitchen is nice and clean, as seen when passing by to use the squeaky clean restrooms, and meals from the huge menu selection come out fast and hot. Food quality and quantity is the best in home-style cooking. Two thumbs up and a toe! read more

As far as "diner" food goes, this wasn't bad. It was packed but server was still patient with us. Surprisingly the coffee was good. It's extremely rare that I can have black coffee outside of the one I make at home. The food was well made, nothing fancy or super memorable. Good prices and decent portions. Ambiance is as you would imagine in a diner....noisy! I can't give 5 stars if im not willing to come back again though. read more

Been going here since I moved to Everet in 1988. When the couple owned it you could not beat the price/service/food. Then his son took over and it went downhill. He had to sell out and the people that took over seem to be great. In the last year though its starting to go down hill customer service wize. It has all new wait staff now and they have a really sour attitude. I wasnt going to say anythign about a previous visit but it now appears that poor service is standard. Before we were not allowed to sit at our table when our time came as the son wasnt there yet. So we had to wait another 15-20 minutes when he arrived a couple minutes later. Thats just wrong. Then today (9/14/2023) was the kicker. It was a little busy but no bad. McKinze was our waitress. After ordering we waited a long time for food. Then we noticed that people that ordered way after us was getting food. So we flagged her down and asked why. And then she flat our lied to us. She said we ordered an Omlet which takes longer. Which would maybe be believeable except the couple next to us that ordered WAY WAY after us got their food. BOTH HAD OMLETS. Being Lied to is the WORST thing a waitress could do. Im starting to wonder if my 35+ years of coming to the resturaunt is almost over. read more

First time trying this place. We were seated right away. We ordered chicken fried steak with o'briens, eggs and toast and then 2 pancakes, eggs and links set. When it came out, my chicken fried steak was steaming and it kept steaming for a long time. The server asked if I wanted the o'briens extra crispy (she recommended it) and it was very crispy and very good. Huge portions for both meals. Light casual atmosphere. Will definitely go back soon to try the other breakfast items! They had so many staff working, which made the services super fast. Definitely worth it to go back. read more

The street tacos had awesome grilled flavor on the chicken, and the salsa served with them was fresh and excellent. We got 2 other salsas with our chips; the table salsa is nice but mild on the heat. The habanero salsa was a little too runny to get much on a plain chip, but it had great flavor and kick. Everything tasted really fresh and added plenty of seasoning to whatever was on the table. This is definitely a good place to mash up your salsas and dips and see what you concoct. The street corn was delicious. Such a perfect HH food--easy for the kitchen, but tons of flavor, and they nail the presentation. Corn tasted really sweet and crunchy even though you know they get it frozen. I'd get it again any time. For 3 apps, 2 dips, and 2 cocktails, we were under $90 before tip. Not too bad, especially since we went off the HH menu for stuff. This place is definitely in the rotation.

A food lovers paradise. I visited the Totem restaurant, and I was rewared with a delicious bacon-burger. As a self proclaimed foodie I could easily, tell that all of the burger was carefully prepared, and that the ingredients were high quality and wholesome. It was easily the best bacon-burger I've had the pleasure of feasting upon. The meat was full, the tomato was a crisp and fresh, and the fries were delicious. Near the end of my meal the owner of the Totem, Alicia introduced herself. She was so sweet and completely understood how to flare up the meals. She was so nice, she was passionate about her business, and was warm person. Alicia really was able to connect with family and I on a personal level. She explained how she was foodie and wanted to have customers have a real experience at her restaurant She was sweet enough to introduce us to her desserts (we decided to go with a cinnamon and a few pieces of lemon pie). The cinnamon roll was delicious, baked with love, huge, and included a side of cheese cake topping. The lemon was cake was a wonderful confection that captured the perfect flavor of lemon, it even included a nice personalizing touch of a cookie on top (Alicia even even included a few extra pieces for me to have) Needless to say, the meal, service, dessert and even the owner were all perfect. Totem Family Dining beats out all competition, no other family restaurant open first dining has got me hooked. I had a wonderful, re-memorable experience. I will return here for years to come for real meals, and appetizing desserts. read more

The Totem Diner is one of those places that feels like a hidden gem... except apparently everyone already knows about it. If you're anywhere nearby, it's worth the stop--but be prepared to wait. We chatted with a regular while waiting who told us his grandparents' photo is hanging on the wall and that there's always a wait... because it's that good. He wasn't wrong. We only waited about 10-15 minutes, which honestly wasn't bad considering it was a Friday morning before Memorial Day. The atmosphere is exactly what you hope for from a diner that's been around since 1953--classic, old-school, and full of character. One of my favorite parts was listening to people chatting across booths asking things like, "What did you order?" and "That's so much food!" It had a warm, community feel that made the whole place feel welcoming. The food is classic diner fare done well. Everything was delicious, and the portions are HUGE. Definitely come hungry or plan to leave with leftovers. Judging by the number of to-go boxes around us, most people were leaving with enough for another meal or two. And the staff? Exactly what you'd want in a busy diner--friendly, efficient, and great at balancing conversation with keeping things moving.
