Dined at Tower 12 for a weekend Brunch with my girls during this COVID-era. We had a wonderful time, everything from the moment we checked-in, to the good vibes, the delicious food + drinks, friendly servers to the moment we paid our bill couldn't have been more perfect! And get this - we didn't have reservations. Just a heads up, they don't accept reservations on Friday/Sat/Sun. We arrived around 11am on Saturday, September 26, 2020 but only had to wait a few minutes at the downstairs check-in and were seated upstairs. There's a temperature check in and masks are required when not seated. I'm not much of a drinker but decided to try their Bloody Mary because both of my friends ordered it. And I have to say, it was really good - they top it with a jalapeño cheese popper thingy which I can't even express into words how good it is! My friend and I both ordered avocado toast and my other friend got the brekkie pizza. Everything is so delicious, flavorful and definitely Instagram-worthy. The upstairs seating is socially distanced with the addition of plexiglass in between the tables. Great views of MB Main Street, the beach and the cute downstairs grassy area. There are plenty of TVs if you're looking to catch a game. Our hostess was friendly and attentive. Prices are reasonable. Parking is a bit challenging (street meter parking and max of 2 hours) and be prepared to walk a bit if you aren't lucky enough to find close street parking. We had the food delivered and it was still tasty! I had the meatball sandwich and the flavor was delicious and the portion was great. My friend had the chicken sandwich and she enjoyed it. My other friend had the burger and he was a bit disappointed at the size of their 1/2lb burger as it was the smallest of all three items. They also had the Korean wings and loved them. I didn't read the drink menu until after ordering but the sound of some of these adult beverages sounds amazing. I was grateful for the open sitting, hand sanitizer and staff wearing their PPE. I can't believe how rude the server/bartender was to me today. My friend started up a conversation with with him (that I was not involved in), and he actually turned to me & said "you need to lighten up". I couldn't believe it. I wasn't rude or snobbish to him. I don't know what I did to make him think that. Plus, what kind of server says that to a customer. I told him it was rude. No apologies. I should have scratched out the 25% tip I had already left. It pains me to say how disappointing a once favorite place is now not some place I can actually enjoy. Prior to becoming permanently disabled I frequented this place at least 3 times a week. I loved the buccatini spaghetti and meatballs, the giant pretzel, pizza their take on a mai tai in the Chinese take out food box, seeing the luckyones perform, coming for the holidays and superbowl party packages. For years was a loyal devoted patron even going so far as to religiously support to go food orders there during the pandemic. In my able body form I would not think twice about visiting here. My past 3 attempts have been deemed unsuccessful due to being handicap. This place unfortunately is not accomodating for those of us who suffer a mobility disability. Multiple times I have visited I jave asked if your elevator works. Every time I am told no it does not work or I'm told it is not for guest use. As someone who uses a wheelchair and a cane it's very devastating that my once favorite place does not allow or accommodate for guest with disabilities. Yesterday July 12th around 9pm we came around since we saw the lower outdoor patio had patrons we would attempt a visit. The I asked the gentleman at the podium if I may use the elevator for upstairs seating and he said no because it was broken. I then asked may we sit outside then, in case I need to use the restroom om aware we need to make the treck closer to the pier but wouldn't mind grabbing drinks and a giant pretzel. He again said no even though we watched them still serve people sitting outdoors. It becomes a bit frustrating time after time we try to visit but are always turned away. It almost feels personal now vs my past self when I was able bodied. Unfortunately due to spinalcord injury I'm unable to do certain motions such as walking up stairs and sitting in a chair/table area that is elevated. Hence the use of my wheelchair and cane on days I can do minimal walking. I am very sad to say goodbye to a place I frequently visited so often but they honestly need to do better. Not just for myself but for others like myself. It's hard for me to write this review because of how much I loved it here but the lack of accountability to be inclusive to all patrons I find myself having to be honest and review low. Besides the lack of accommodation for someone like myself the food and cocktails are incredible. From brunch down to dessert from paste experience I was hooked. Live entertainment in the living room area is always exceptional as well. If you are not disabled I highly recommend you dress to impress and visit here. read more

I went for a bicycle ride from Playa to Hermosa and my friend suggested having lunch here. Overall it was a very good experience. We sat upstairs and an outside table because that's all you're allowed to sit outside :-) the waiter was a nice guy and everything went well I personally had the three meatballs with garlic toast appetizer and my friends had a large salad. Stopped here for brunch after kayaking at the nearby harbor in the morning. It's tucked in part of a nice walking street area off Hermosa Beach. There's a lot of interesting seating areas including a cute courtyard out front and we were seated on a balcony upstairs facing out to the street and beach. The restaurant feels quite safe. They temperature check everyone who comes in, menus are viewable on QR code's, and we felt quite distanced from anyone else. Although there's a set brunch menu, their entire drink menu was available. We got the 16 street rum smash. It was really delicious, especially if you like sweet tiki-type drinks. You also get to keep the glass when you order these, even though they're about the same price as all the other drinks. My friend got the bbq brisket scramble and I tried the brekkie pizza. The eggs on it were perfectly runny and the bacon was especially tasty. I also appreciated that they served the pizza with red pepper, parmesan & ranch. We came here on Saturday evening around 6pm and walked into a 20 minute wait. It was not too bad, lot's of people watching in line. The front host stand was being worked by 3 people who did a good job at coordinating. We chatted up Shawn (tall guy) about the food and he gave us some solid recommendations, which we followed. Once inside you will find that the eating and bar area is located upstairs, giving an elevated view of Pier street. The decor is fun and beachy with a lot of tchotchke artifacts. I totally enjoyed the seating and our view. Our table looked right out onto the hoopla of Pier and the bars/restaurants. The food was all spot on! We started with Burrata Toast Prosciutto which was delicious. It's a nightmare to try and cut into sharing portions, but it taste wonderful, despite me making a mess out of the situation. For the main course my wife and I both LOVED the Fried Chicken Sandwich (Shawn reco!) and we got skinny fries to compliment the sandwich. My daughter got the grilled cheese with tomato soup, old habits die hard. Great news, it was a hit with her. The food was all top shelf - 'A' grades all around. Are you thirsty? They have an accomplished beer list and make great scratch drinks. I had two IPA's: Stone delicious and St. Archer Hazy IPA while my wife said her Dreamsicle was really good. The beers come out really cold, which made me happy. Kudos to our server, Chris who was friendly and efficient. Not sure why I'm not going with 5 stars, we had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the beach vibe and food. Actually, I know why, it's an excuse to go back and try it again. We hadn't been to Tower 12 in a while, sadly, we won't be back anytime soon, the menu looks the same, but the quality is the food was not good at all. We had the Tuna banmi, really lacked flavor, I had the chicken Waldorf salad and there was so little chicken that I should of sent it back, it was all lettuce and nothing but a few small apple slices, this used to be my favorite salad on the pier. Prices have gone up due to the minimum wage nonsense, but for the price of what we had, we will go elsewhere next time. read more

I've been here twice now. It's a big upgrade from 4F! The first time I came was for dinner and my friend & I shared the tuna poke, smoked meatballs, burrata toast and cream corn. All the dishes were good, but nothing that I ABSOLUTELY loved. I've had better meatballs at Jon + Vinny's. The cream corn was pretty great. Everything else, just good. The white sangria was too sweet for me. However, I came back another day for happy hour with 2 other friends. Happy hour is M-F 3-6pm. The three of us shared the pretzel with cheese dip, wood fired garlic blue shrimp, cauliflower tempura, and a mushroom pizza. The apps were on the HH menu, but the pizza was not. I got a glass of wine, while my friend got a giant beer. The shrimp dish only came with three medium sized shrimps, so it looked pretty sad in the big skillet. But if you soak up some garlic & oil with you bread, and eat it with the shrimp, it's very delish. The pretzel was good. The mushroom was flavorful and the cauliflower tempura was unique (in a good way)! I would come back and try more dishes, or even just to drink. Overall, great spot and we've loved dining here as Hermosa locals. The reason I'm giving 3 stars is due to our most recent visit. Don't order the harvest salad with shrimp... Unless you want only 3 (yes... ONLY 3) shrimp. When I asked the waitress for more protein she said, "that's how it is, it only comes with three." Not a great response. If I'm paying 5 extra bucks for shrimp on a salad, don't insult your customers with. Shrimp at Vons cost $8 a pound... and that's for around 25-45 shrimp depending on size. Worst experience, there was only one person, the bartender, was like droopy dog, slow and just didn't want to be there and he showed it. Here you seat yourself, put in your own order at the bar, weird but we did it so when he refused to serve my niece a beer we just walked out, I sure wasn't going to stay to find out if I had to bus my own food. They must be doing well and don't need or want our business, there was only one other table with 4 or 5 people we were only 3. I don't get it if you are doing your own seating, get up give your order at the bar, and the only person that's on the floor is being rude, with a I don't want to serve you attitude, how do they expect customers to stay and pay for their overpriced food and drinks. I loved the ambience and sophistication of this restaurant. The food was so amazing and the drink menu is superb. It was quite busy when I went in but I still felt like I was taken care of and my food didn't take long. I wish I took photos of my food but the burger is great and the kale salad is AMAZING AND DELICIOUS. Love love love the kale salad. We had an issue with someone in our party having incorrect toppings on their food and the manager Armando was eager to find a solution. I really appreciated this attention to detail. It really felt like cared and wanted me and my party to enjoy our time there. Tower 12 is in a great spot! Lots of other bars close by if you wanted to bar hop. Quite good for happy hour. I love the menu and the drink selection. No wait on a weekday at 5:00 PM. Everyone was really nice in the bar area, including staff and fellow patrons. I think we ended up here on a day where everyone brought their dogs, and there just wasn't enough space for the four-legged friends that were trying to eat my food. The first sign of a good business is being greeted and waited on. We got neither. we did finally get greeted and given menus and offered water. The water never arrived. After waiting over 10 minutes a waitress finally came by to take our order just as my wife got up and we were about to leave. We opted to stay. Our waitress apologized says she had just arrived. So we'll give her a shot. She returned with our drink order and water. At last...our drinks have come along I ordered a pretzel for starters. My beautiful wife ordered a Fried chicken sandwich with truffle fries. I ordered a margherita pizza. Let's see how it goes The pretzel was a hit. The cheese sauce was tasty and hot. The mustard was tasty and you can definitely feel the heat sneak in your nose. (Holy Horseradish Batman!!) As for the fried chicken sandwich it tasted good, but got soggy quick. Solution: eat without the bun. As to the pizza, the fresh mozzarella was melted to perfection, the sauce was messy and made it taste uncooked. The crust was pretty thin and could have been left in the oven a while longer to crispen. Three minutes more might have helped perhaps. The basil and salt gave it a fresh taste. The parmesan cheese, red pepper, and ranch on the side were a nice touch. The server was nice enough, and came back to check on us once during our meal, and once at the end to ask us about another drink, but we politely declined. This was not a place with an afternoon rush, so we were fortunate to get our check quick and make our way out. The server was not completely at fault here. But our entry to the restaurant could have been more welcoming (we had to ask if we needed to wait to be seated or seat ourselves) and service could have been at a reasonable pace. My favoritist bar in Hermosa. Used to be Fat Faced Fenner's but they closed that and made a slightly more upscale version. Still two bar areas (front and back). Still big beers, decent specials, some sneaky good food, and still that Hermosa crowd of party happy drinkers seeking a good time. Music is usually good. Live music is there once in a while. Bartenders are usually quick and efficient, just be nice to them and have a little bit of patience or you'll suffer the whole night. Line can be long Thursday thru Sunday evenings / nights. I frequent Tower multiple times a week as a long time local and lover of this establishment... my girls and I received some A+ service tonight from Marina so I feel inclined to give the girl a shout out. She was kind, attentive, personable, and just overall super wonderful. She was on top of our service and had a sincere smile on her face 100% of the time even when we squeezed in our last minute happy hour orders within a minute to the end- which most of the time servers are irritated by this, so we really appreciated her enthusiasm and willingness to hustle. As someone who worked in South Bay hospitality for 10+ years such as at MB Post and many other restaurants- I can vouch that is what service should feel like, and Marina should be recognized for it.
