I'm not going to ding 'em on service - they recently opened and I always feel like it takes time to work out the kinks until smooth sailing. I'm grading based on atmosphere and food. The food was not impressive. Tuna carpaccio was way too saucy. The fish was fresh but there was just too much going on. The shrimp cocktail was fine/average. I didn't try the steak but didn't hear any complaints. The atmosphere was a let down. Interior design is one thing that should be heavily invested in if your goal is to come across more upscale. Here, it looked aged and the bar area + dining area clashes a bit too much in terms of color and overall seating arrangement. It makes the place look small and awkward. I live in about a 3 min driving distance and was looking forward to putting an American food restaurant in rotation - hopefully it improves over time when it comes to food at least.

We really enjoy supporting new local restaurants and we're excited to try Town in McLean. Granted the place has only been open a few weeks so expectations were adjusted. Busy Friday night, had reservations, was able to find parking in their lot and seated on time. The restaurant has a cement pad, front and center, where two high end cars were on display in front of the entrance. Our waitress seemed extremely frazzled and was very distracted. I ordered a smoked old fashion, which is on the menu, and waited over 15 mins before ever seeing the drink. The old fashion was very good; however, was missing the black cherry as listed. The appetizers were the highlight as the quality went down from here. Fried mozzarella was presented in an iron type skillet and was quite tasty. The pupusas were cheesy as well and very good. I overheard the owner tell a customer that the pasta dishes had recently been added to the menu. I ordered one of them Cacio e Pepe. So disappointed in this dish, barely warm, severely undercooked and lacked the peppery punch you want in this entree. The burger was decent but not memorable as the lower bun was soggy. To close the night, the bill was presented slid inside a book: Short Stories to Spark Diversity Dialogue. Regardless of which way you lean, this was strange. The book still had the discounted price sticker on the backside. As if they went out and found a box of throw aways at a bookstore. The night was very odd, felt rushed at times, and unprepared. It's unfortunate because it's a great location and has a fantastic local vibe. If Town plans on making it, more time will need to be spent on the restaurant and in the kitchen, rather than at the discount book store.

What a fantastic addition to McLean, VA. In the immediate area it was only J Gilberts which has noticeably declined in quality across the board. This is a really nice atmosphere, American style fare for the most part, clean, warm, comfortable and white tablecloth ambiance. Really nice bar. Parking is available yet tight as evening goes on, nice service, good menu (not great amount of options) , above average prices. Food was delicious- very well done. Quantities are moderate. Big upgrade over nearest competitor however and look forward to trying more options going forward- hope they can add some seasonal specials/menu options.

Cyndy's Bottom Line: Great place for food & drinks especially the espresso martini! *Walk ins welcomed *Reservations on OpenTable *Great space and ambiance *Parking lot available, and street parking *Bar area with two big screen TVs +Newly opened so we stopped in without a reservation and was seated promptly. This is what we ate/drank: +6671 Manhattan -Rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, bitters, dark cherry *Stirred and served on the rocks with a single block of ice. +Espresso Martini -Tito's vodka, espresso, coffee liqueur, simple syrup *A well made espresso martini with the right proportions. Garnished with three coffee beans floating on the foam (representing health, wealth, and happiness in Italian tradition) and served immediately to enjoy the foam. Great presentation with a dome of dry ice. Divine! +GRILLED WINGS -(8) grilled wings with shaved carrot, celery, house blue cheese, and house ranch and a choice of sauce: Virginia Peanut, Sorghum BBQ, or Tangy Buffalo *Great to have grilled wings, nice char on them and the sauces were tasty especially the tangy buffalo. +CALAMARI -Squid tentacles and rings, crispy fried with artichokes and peppers, served with lemon aioli and sweet chili sauce. *Love the calamari. Perfectly fried and not oily. Seasoned well and the sauces were flavorful m. +CARPACCIO -Thin-sliced ahi tuna topped with jalapeño, red onion, cucumber, avocado aioli, crispy shallots, ginger, micro cilantro, and a drizzle of 5-spice caramel. *Fresh and rich high grade ahi tuna. The toppings work well to add good flavor profiles. +Friendly and great customer service from Brian. We had a good experience dining here and will return. +Highly recommend

Love this place, the staff are amazing. Great service, including life saving by Sam the Bartender. If you're chocking on something, he can and will save you! Bartenders Michael, Kevin, Delmy and others are awesome as well! The owners Reza and Eve are hands on! 5 Stars!

The biergarten has ample canopy seating with long benches and tabletops, perfect for groups! You can't make reservations. They have a strict policy of no outside food or drinks. The ambiance is very casual and there's no table service. Rather than ordering through a QR code, place your order at the bar and then you'll get a text alert when the food is ready for pick-up at the long table closest to the bar. The line is always pretty short and you can get a drink within 5-10 min, the food takes longer and even up to 1/2 hour for fries. I would stick to the beer on draft, the cocktails can be hit/miss depending on the bartender, the draft drinks tend to have better consistency. The Wildberry Mule cocktail and Pina Colada Sangria and Peach Seltzer on draft were my picks while the Bourbon Smash, Passionfruit Mojito, Pina Colada Mojito, and the Passionfruit Seltzer were misses. On the flip side, the bartenders poured a generous amount of Prosecco for Mimosas, much appreciated! The bottled Angry Orchard apple cider is generally my go-to. There's always a mocktail on the menu (came in handy when I was pregnant!) The new battered fries are so much better than last year! The menu is limited with simple bar food (bbq pulled pork sandwich, burger, grilled cheese, hot dog, fries, kettle chips). Wish there were more vegetarian options like charcuterie board, hummus and crackers, nachos, mac and cheese, etc. While I give credit for having a Veggie Burger on the menu, it's sad and disappointing. It has a very smoky meaty flavor (from the grill, not the patty) with lackluster toppings - the vegan cheese is disgusting. I would swap out the kettle chips and pay the upcharge for fries. The doughy pretzel sticks are quite salty and a step up from the movie theater. They are good for absorbing the alcohol! Despite these minor complaints, I love coming here with family and fries. So glad The Perch opened up, Starr Hill Biergarten is a great spot to kick back and relax with a beer or 2!

The staff explained they prepare omakase for a set number of guests, so they couldn't accommodate us last-minute. Reservations - I've been with OpenTable and other restaurant online booking systems for decades but this is a first for me. They have two separate OpenTable listings (as noted in other reviews). I was clear in that i just wanted an after work chill happy hour. I booked for 4:30. After promptly showing up at the wren for my 4:30 appointment I was told, Naisho room doesn't open until 5 pm.... So why did you let me book for 4:30?!?! No explanation. No apology just "you're early..." 2. I promptly dropped $70 for drinks and an appetizer at the Wren bar to hold me and my guests over. It wasn't bad but that's not what I was hoping for... at 4:30. 3. The service to the speakeasy was great. The "gym stag" had our 4:30 and let us in at... 5:03 pm... 4. The waitress inside the speakeasy was super awkward and off putting. She really needs a class on etiquette. I ordered quite a bit right off the bat but my guests slow roll throughout the experience and she didn't seem too happy with that. Taking away our menus doesn't encourage us to order either. You charge $22 for one tea sandwhich but can't afford to print out more menus? The menus were also pretty dingy and I hand sanitized after using them. 5. Food. Was mid at best. Not at all authentic Japanese. I had the oyster shooter, temaki, Wagyu toast, Wagyu quesadilla, and mocktail. The oyster shooter was too sweet. And you could only taste the oyster and caviar at the end. Mostly as an aftertaste. There was a "too sweet" aspect to most of the food. The temaki was okay and I liked the crunchy bits but they went too far with the plastic wrap on the seaweed. The plastic wrap gave me Japanese 7-11 onigiri vibes. You do that if you aren't efficient enough to get the food out to guests at once and the seaweed will get soggy. I'm not sure if it was for a "fun factor" for people who are unfamiliar with grocery store onigiri in Asia but in a restaurant it should be done for you. The Wagyu toast was a HUGE disappointment. It was Sooooo sweet. I filet barely taste anything except the gross, sweet jam. And the toast was soggy and the texture of the bread felt prepared the day before and like refrigerator. It was not toasted at all. The star was the Wagyu quesadilla with beef tendon chips. It was the cheapest item on the menu and the most filling and delicious. 6. Drinks were very good. Expect about $20 a pop... $50 for the Japanese whiskey is highway robbery. Nothing really "rare." I have most bottles on the kitchen counter from the Virginia ABc or DC Costco. You can buy an entire bottle of the Japanese whiskey at Costco for the cost of one serving here. Overall, the Naisho room felt like all hype. For over $100 I was still pretty hungry. If the food tasted good I would have ordered more but I didn't think it was worth it. You get a nice view but it's the same from most of the capital one building. Same view from the brewery. Don't waste your money. Go elsewhere. Plenty of better happy hour spots for much much less considering if you stay for more than two hours you have to pay for parking (we did becuase, well, our reservation was at 4:30...)

Sure I was really hungry but the bartender wasn't lying. I got the feeling he was serious when he told me it was good. It wasn't like "I recommend the carnitas it's my personal favorite" because they were trying to push the carnitas. Nah, the look in his eye told me he really liked that sandwich. I mean, I still expected it to be perfectly neutral, based on the week I've spent in the area - everything is just missing something. Like every menu in the area was crafted by consultants. B+ execution with zero passion. Consistently ok. But thats pretty much everywhere these days - when's the last time anyone had an actually memorable sandwich in an upscale yet perfectly generic geography? I expected it to be just good enough to not be sad about spending $18 on meat you can get for $0.19/lb in normal times. No it was both huge and delicious. It was actually good carnitas - wasn't dry or bland. I could be wrong but it tasted like they bring in an actual pork butt and slow roast it vs bringing it in pre-made and putting "slow roasted" on the menu as that would still be technically accurate. And PILED on a perfect French roll, lightly toasted and seasoned. It sat on the bar in a bag for like 15 minutes while I finished my drink and it wasn't even soggy when I got back to my room. It was really good, guys. No notes. Oh, and the chips were good too. Crunchy and just the right amount of chewy and give in the middle. Again, I came in with zero expectations. My room is fantastic, but the food reviews and the fact that the menu at the bar was missing half the things from the in-room QR menu had me worried. 100% if you're staying here, eat here at least once. 3.5 stars relative to everything else around here is absurd.

I said I wanted a staycation, good food, spa day and shopping. He asked where I preferred to eat. I chose a few places where I could dress fancy and dress all the way up! He chose a restaurant near this location because I dislike driving, that was super convenient. I love a man that leads, yes to this place and plan! When I arrived, of course the first thing to do was examine the room and head "straight to the bar". I cannot express how delicious this place was! It's a crime to be this delicious! It felt like the chef was whispering, 'You don't need that fancy place tonight... I'm all you need, baby.' And honestly? He wasn't wrong. The AKB was contemporary, reminded me of NYC, and service was great! Let's get into it! Margarita Please! Wow these were good! Maybe too good! One down, two, did I really order three? Geeesh Spanish Shrimp Scampi - I can't describe this at all, it was super freaking delicious and portion size was HUGE! We canceled Friday dinner plans because I was so full! Full but so content. The food was sooooo yummy. Highly recommend this little bar as a pit stop before going to any restaurant around the area or just coming here to indulge! Way to go chef! Talk about steal the night and the show!!!!
