It's my first time here, and I already know it won't be my last. The food was simply outstanding ; rich, velvety, and beautifully balanced. Every dish reflected exceptional quality, thoughtful technique, and deep respect for the ingredients. Yet what truly elevates the experience is the service. Attentive to every meticulous detail, precise like a Swiss watch. The warmth feels genuine and effortless. Ricardo, the host, leads with elegance and charm, and each member of the service team moves in perfect harmony, turning dinner into a flawlessly orchestrated experience. The atmosphere is urban and cosmopolitan, infused with a refined Art Deco flair that adds character, sophistication, and personality to the space. Without a doubt, I will return. Because when gastronomy and hospitality align at this level, it's not accidental ; it's excellence.
Originally, I was planning on visiting the redwood room at the Clift hotel and it was unfortunately closed for the evening. So with a bit of a pout, I turned around and headed towards the red lettering for Tratto on the other side of the street. It was a clear sign from the universe, that was my new destination. Stepped in at the right time and with a few minutes to spare for happy hour. Sat right down at the bar and started perusing the menu a bit. The way I would describe this place is absolutely cozy. Warm and inviting lighting, friendly staff, and 3 stooges playing on the wall. Loved it. They had some Christmas decor up which added to this comfy vibe. For food, I started with a limoncello spritz and Arancini balls from the happy hour and what a beautiful little start. Arancini was beautifully crispy with just the right amount of marinara and parmesan to top it off. The limoncello was delightful and refreshing. Totally a drink, i'd like to revisit in the summer. Super yum. I was still a little hungry and opted for the Kale Salad. OH MY GOODNESS. This was definitely one of the best kale salads I had in a while. my eyes were definitely rolling in the back of my head for this one. Picture this: Perfectly massaged kale, with fresh parmesan, crispy quinoa, and the most amazing vinaigrette. I could eat this every night if I could. Something so comforting about a simple salad. I paired this with a beefy red wine. So good. I finished my meal off with a healthy glass of port. Which was great! What made the meal even better was the convo I had with Vidal! Such a great bartender and gave me a few recs of other places to go in the city. I'm a huge lover of great customer service and Vidal hit it out of the park! Sometimes in this life, you need a sweet and cozy wine bar, my visit to Tratto was totally unexpected but 100% what I needed.
I went to Tratto for dinner on a cold Sunday night before ice skating, and it was the perfect cozy meal to warm us up. We ordered the fritto misto with calamari, rock cod and shrimps, lasagna, tagliatelle con polpette (meatballs), and the controfiletto (top sirloin steak). We absolutely loved the calamari and lasagna, and will definitely be back for both. Besides the food, the service was excellent, and the beautiful panoramic outline of SF and bar are worth the visit alone.
I am always on the lookout for a good place near ACT or the Curran. My old go tos shuttered during the pandemic and I have been slow to adjust. Tratto had been on my list for a while and I finally bit the bullet. Not sorry. My friend and I split several of the veggie dishes. The focaccia and olives came out piping hot. The olives were nicely seasoned and the bread had that spongy goodness I love. The arancini were exactly what I expected. Yum! We split a salad, the estiva. It had grilled peaches, tomatoes, arugula, and burrata. Good flavors and textures, also yum. For our main, we had the risotto. It featured beets and goat cheese. It was purple! Yoes, beets are typically purple, but for some reason, the vibrant color was a bit shocking. As you would expect, it was a very earthy dish. I almost wished it had a hit of acid to brighten it up, but it hit all the right notes in terms of comfort. Service was good. My friend wasn't crazy about her cocktail, but my Mexican Sprite was just fine. My biggest quibble is the street entrance. It requires you to walk up some stairs. I hate stairs these days. I imagine the entrance is more accessible. BTW, a 20% gratuity is automatically added to the bill. Makes splitting things much easier. I would definitely eat here again. Recommended.
While I'd like to give Tratto more stars on the strength of the dining room and friendly service, the price point simply eclipses those aspects. The savory fixings of the Kale Salad made it a perfectly pleasant meal, but the price tag approaching $20 for greens and cheese is a non starter. For two of us, the bill exceeded $60 with only one main. Note that they include gratuity on the bill, which is a fine practice in theory, but given the rarity of doing so for such a small party, feels underhanded. Although the kale was tasty, the menu suffers from not offering any heftier vegetarian additions. Moreover, there aren't any side dishes to complement a salad, so I was stuck with either a $40 tab for one meal or a still-empty stomach. It's hard to go wrong with lemon, garlic and parmesan, so at least Tratto didn't err in the salad prep, but given the context, it was underwhelming. That said, the space is beautifully appointed with the large scale Amos Goldbaum murals of San Francisco. Perhaps if one is attending a nearby show, Tratto cwuld be a solid option, but otherwise, it's not a near-term repeater.
Came here to grab a wine before it was closing. Our server was friendly and gave great choices on the wine. There were not alot of people in the spot so service was quick. Wine selections were great too. Nice ambiance as well. Didn't get to try the food selection, hoping next time!
I clearly have never had real Italian food because I went with the mindset of getting some Alfredo lol. I promise I Googled literally EVERYTHING on the menu because I had no idea what anything was, but this was the best possible choice I could've made. When I asked our waitress was it good, she said that's it's one of the most popular things on the menu. The Sogliola Piccata was amaazzzzingggggg, I can't wait to try it at another restaurant because God only knows when I'll make it to San Francisco again. I think the asparagus was a little undercooked, but the fish was amazing, the potatoes in the little sauce was tasty and my first time having capers?!?! I can't wait to have this again! 10/10 & I highly recommend!
We just stayed at the hotel this restaurant is connected to, after a long day of travel we ordered room service. We got the pesto gnocchi and garlic bread plate. The food had no taste except for salt. It was a major disappointment especially when we ordered $40 worth of food and due to fees and automatic gratuity had to pay $74. Not to mention why charge a room service fee if they just bring the food in take out containers?? If I am paying for those fees with automatic gratuity I expect plates and silverware. I am a big foodie and I dont mind paying high prices if the food is worth it (for example we went to STK and had a wonderful time with delicious meals), this is NOT one of those places. We tried calling the restaurant 5 times and no one ever answered. When we went downstairs to ask for our receipt the workers kept ignoring us and it took three waiters to get it to us. Honestly go somewhere else, you can't even enjoy this place for the convenience.
The inside of the place was very nice but I didn't realize it was inside of a hotel, it smelled very nice, however me and my family felt like the staff were kind of hostile, especially when speaking to me, my server had recommended us to get a dish and when I said I'm okay thank you I'll order this, he gave me a look and almost rolled/widened his eyes at me, I just felt very put off by that, it felt very pushy when they were reccomending super expensive dishes, multiple workers were just super rude and snooty, pasta is definitely handmade it's very al dente but the dish I ordered (spaghetti vongoli) which had clams in it, the clams were not seasoned at all and were bland and cold, the pasta was a little too hard for me but my pasta was overall super bland, tasted like nothing, I had to add sauce from another pasta dish to make it flavorful. What ticked me off the most was I did see on the menu that gradiuty was included, but my table had only 3 people in it, 20% gratuity included I felt was absurd for 3 people, on yelp it is labeled as $$ signs, but the total today the price was almost as much as a nice dinner for a family of five, there was just so much extra charge for no reason. 33$ for tip, added sf mandate charges, it was just absurd. Maybe I'm being cheap but it felt more like $$$ instead of $$, overall, it was good but I wouldn't come back. Also the included gratuity was NOT on their website so I feel like it's false advertising.
My son and I had a dinner date here before catching a show. It was a lovely dinner... we were 45 minutes late for our reservation due to horrible traffic getting over the bridge. They were super accommodating and understanding. We were in a bit of a hurry due to being late, but all the food came out quickly so it wasn't an issue. We had the fritto misto, cesare salad, and pappardelle. Everything was yummy, my son really enjoyed the fritto misto and pappardelle. I thought the cesare salad was really good, great flavor and nicely dressed. It was the perfect environment to have dinner with my son, who was quite pleasant that evening for a 14 year old, lol. Various groups dining here, there were people on dates, groups of friends, and families dining here. Wonderful and relaxing atmosphere with nice waitstaff. Gratuity is already included in the bill, fyi, which my waiter was kind enough to point out as well.
A night cap here is my first time , already had dinner but wanted to try the calamaris. Bar seat was quick and I enjoyed the ambience. Charming guests and bartenders, my "Agua Fresca " was awesome :) Food was great and I would definitely recommend the place for a relaxing evening!
Tratto hits the mark with their burger - a standout that's elevated by its delicious tomato jam and crispy prosciutto. What also makes it great is how they've managed to create a juicy burger that doesn't leave you feeling weighed down since it isn't greasy. The blood orange spritz was fantastic. It's a refreshing and tasty cocktail that I'd definitely come back for. One miss was the fritto misto - while not bad, it was underwhelming and didn't live up to the standards set by their other dishes. I'd skip this one on future visits.
We went here after seeing a play down the street at the Curran. It was convenient for an after matinee dinner. The menu had a variety of dishes so everyone was able to find something they liked. Everything was delicious. The service was great. My only complaint was that the doors were open on a windy day, so it was chilly inside. The candles on the table were in glass holders, so they didn't go out with the wind. We did almost set the menu ablaze since it was a little too dark to read the menu comfortably at a closer distance.
5/5 - I was given a recommendation for fresh pasta and WOW!!! The restaurant itself is super cute - date night vibes. Not only was the food ridiculously delicious the host/mrg Cynthia couldn't have been more delightful. You will not be disappointed. read more

First time here, I had no clue the restaurant was part if the hotel. Ambiance was nice, classy calm yet casual environment . The cocktails were good, strong which was nice. My favorite part of my meal was the polenta fries. Lots of flavor and good presentation. I am vegan so not much I could order from the menu. I asked them to make their mushroom pizza for me but not to add any cheese. For what it was it was good. read more

Fantastic atmosphere. We walked in as a party of 2 during prime dinner time and were quickly seated. Our server was super friendly too. We had the calamari sand rock shrimp special as an appetizer. Delicious. Light crispy batter and also came with onions, fennel and peppers. Quite a good portion too. For mains, I had the lamb gnocchi. Fresh made and you can tell. It's amazing! And it's not ground lamb ragu which I expected, it was like roasted and braised lamb chunks. Heavily. My friend had the fresh made seafood linguine and she said it was one of the best she's had. Lots of seafood given including big prawns, calamari, mussels and clams Definitely would recommend coming here. It was a great find for us. read more

This is a great place for happy hour! The food is really good here, they have special cocktail drinks and I definitely enjoy the atmosphere. It's a chill vibe and you can always sit at the bar or at the communal table. It doesn't get super packed so you'll be fine without a reservations. Love this spot! Was heading to watch a play nearby at the Curran theatre so we made a reservation at Tratto for dinner. Easily made the reso online the night before without any problems. Arrived on time and was seated immediately at a table. There was a couple in front of us without a reservation and they were seated at the communal table- so make sure you make a reservation if you want a private table. Server was helpful and friendly- I asked if I can swap the type of pasta in my dish and he was happy to help. I ended up ordering the bolognese with papperdelle instead of the spinach tagliatelle and it was amazing! My husband ordered the gnocchi with braised beef and mushroom ragu and it was amazing too. We rounded out the meal with a tiramisu to share and it was perfect as well. Will definitely be coming back - love the casual comforting but upscale ambiance and delicious food. read more
Came to this place with a table of 7 other coworkers. This place is great for large parties, they accommodated us quickly and we never felt neglected. We ordered drinks and appetizers which both came quickly, only to be followed by our dinner order. We ordered the beef and ricotta meatballs, the focaccia, and bruschetta. The focaccia was nice and thick, and they paired it with an olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. The bruschetta was good, but only if you really like prosciutto. The meatballs however, were absolutely delicious!! It comes with two in the order but they're massive! As an appetizer, you can feed 4 people. I could have easily eaten both myself though. For dinner the table ordered all different things and everything turned out delicious! My favorite was the Gnocchi or the Canneloni. We saved some room for dessert and treated ourselves to italian donuts and vanilla ice cream. It was the perfect topper to our dinner. read more

Came here on a weekend to celebrate my boyfriend's sister's boyfriend's birthday (confusing right lol?). We decided to go somewhere nice for dinner so we found this place that was close to our hotel. There was four of us so it was a double date! Ambiance? A1. It was dark but nicely lit so this place is definitely a great place for a romantic dinner date with your significant other. Food? DELICIOUS. Everything that we ordered was perfectly cooked. The crispy pork belly melts in your mouth! Probably the best I've had. We also ordered a tomato/mozzarella/basil pizza and it was simple but nicely crisp and tasty. But the best part? The "Stracotto." Who doesn't love a good pot roast. The beef was so smooth and fell apart so easily. It was so good with the potatoes and cream. Definitely a must to order! Service? It could have been better. I remember we were waiting for our food and wine and it took a very long time. We weren't really checked on to see how we were doing but the food definitely made up for the time. I was definitely full after the dinner, since the menu is made for sharing with everyone at your table. But I know it wasn't enough for the rest of my party. Something to consider is that even though it is a classy establishment, the portions could have been bigger. I had Sunday brunch here with a group of 12 ppl. We reserved ahead so we'll get seated right away. A few of us had the bottomless mimosas for $14, what a deal! I had the spinach tagliatelle recommended by the server. It was pretty good. The roasted grape pizza that my friend ordered was pretty good and thought I would be ordering that next time. We shared the Italian donuts with the bourbon caramel sauce which was delicious!!! The servers were all nice in refilling our mimosas and water. This is a hotel bar, so the prices are a little insane, hence the 4 stars. HOWEVER, you HAVE TO GO for happy hour! their menu is unbeatable, with cocktails priced at $5, wings at a similar price, and a ton of options. the bar is also super nice and a fun environment, with cool old movies being projected onto the wall, and also just some great wall art. the bar provides a great place to people watch in down town sf, if youre into that! they have great Negronis, and their spritzes are delicious too. the wings are amazing and so is the flat bread. ive also been for breakfast once, and while the portions are tiny, i would recommend the truffle breakfast pizza. super good! read more

Pizzas looked great but were very crispy. I have been here few times before but this was not a good experience this time. I did tell the waiter it was too crispy but he didn't seem to care. Classy and unique atmosphere with phenomenal food. Reservations recommended. I don't mean to act like some kind of gnocchi expert but I ALWAYS order gnocchi. Usually from places that boast that they make it in house. These gnocchi were average size but soft and fluffy. The braised beef tore apart so easily and melted in my mouth. Not acidic at all, with the perfect amount of salt. Can't wait to go back! read more

Highly recommend this place! The location is in a great spot - just up the street from Union Square. For this reason, it can get a bit crowded, but I called in advance and we were seated immediately upon arrival. I love the restaurant decor here. The walls are styled with modern blueprints of San Francisco and the checkered tiles give off an energetic vibe. A perfect environment for a happy hour or weekend dinner. Aside from the environment, the food does not disappoint! A friend and I ordered the Bruschetta to start, along with the Mushroom Truffle Pizza and Spinach tagliatelle as our mains. The bruschetta was standard, but the pizza and pasta were delicious. The pizza crust was baked to a crispy perfection, and the mushroom and truffle combination went so well together. Pasta was fresh and served with the perfect bolognese to noodle ratio. If you're looking for a satisfying meal, I definitely recommend this place. Might just make this my go-to Italian restaurant in SF! read more
Came here for lunch with my team of 5 total and got seated immediately. Service was superb because they did whatever they could to accommodate our asks. To our surprise the food was delicious since we had no expectations. I love the line art decor around the space and parts of it on the menu. I started off with an Arnold Palmer and it was tasty - not too sour and not too sweet. We started off with a few appetizers: - Calamari: delicious and not covered in too much batter when fried. Freshly fried and not oily. The dipping sauces were delicious too! - Parmesan-truffle fries: fries are always a good idea especially if truffle and cheese is involved. Loved the thin fries and freshly crispy. - wild arugula salad: one of my favorite appetizers, the fresh arugula was delicious with the light honey-lemon vinaigrette dressing and cheese. Definitely worth ordering! Main dishes shared: - Margherita pizza: filling and perfect for a party of five among other shared items. Thin crust which I enjoyed and great flavor. Nothing exceptional but it was solid. - Pappardelle pasta: my favorite main entree. Love the thin wide pasta covered in lots of tomato sauce, butter, and Parmesan cheese. The sauce was surprisingly delicious and not too tomato-y/sour. Would definitely recommend ordering. This dish was on the smaller end but perfect amount for my party to share among our other dishes. The food overall was just eh. The spinach tagliatelle, three meat bolognese pasta I was really hoping to be pretty good, however my nose was not agreeing with the taste of it. It could be a spice I don't like (I definitely don't like allspice if that's what was in it) and I've only had my mother's meat Bolognese and that's it, but the noodles had a good texture. The doughnuts had such great potential, but they were not cooked through enough and I only ate 2 of them. The caramel sauce was good. The service was quick once ordered for takeout. When I heard BDK closed and Tratto popped up in its place, I knew I wanted to check it out. Peter L mentioned he wanted to go to Tratto as well, so we met up last Friday, July 22nd around 5:45pm for some drinks and snacks. Happy Hour Tap cocktails ($7): *Castra Nicia: Jim Beam rye, sweet vermouth, maraschino, averna (normally $12) *Waters of Po: Palo Cortado sherry, dry vermouth, bianco vermouth, orange bitters (normally $12) I decided to try the two HH cocktails. I tried the Waters of Po first. It was a little more tart and sweet than I expected, so I actually found it hard to drink. I ended up ordering my second drink before I finished the first. Turns out, it got better when paired with salty food, so I ended up enjoying it. The Castra Nicia was also sweeter and lighter than I expected. It was a good break cocktail and my first sip was good, but as I drank it, it actually tasted sweeter and more watered down. The bartender was nice and very attentive. He noticed I wasn't really liking my first cocktail, so he comped it. Super sweet. Happy Hour Eat: *Focaccia ($2, normally $2) *Fried chicken thighs, crispy prosciutto, lemon ($13, normally $14) I wasn't hungry, but since we were here, Peter wanted to try some of the HH food. The chicken thighs were good. Crispy and juicy. This was the dish that made me appreciate my first cocktail. The drink paired well with the lemon on the chicken. I don't really like bread, so I didn't care for the focaccia. Peter really liked it though. Although I'm not sure why the focaccia is on the HH menu as it's not specially priced. Peter also tried two cocktails: Ginevra: Bols Ginever, maraschino, lemon, orgeat ($12) & Improved Martini: Anchor Old Tom Gin, maraschino, absinthe, orange bitters ($12). I didn't try either since I wasn't in the mood for clear, but Peter seemed to enjoy them. Overall, HH was okay. I didn't strongly dislike anything, but I didn't really love anything either. If you do come by though, the chicken thighs were the best thing we had. And you don't have to rush here for HH since you only save a buck! read more

Excellent authentic Italian thin crust pizza. This is not the place for you if you want the inch thick McDonalds pizza. The paper thin crust is just like what you get in Rome. Bella! Service was excellent. This is a great place for dinner before the theater. Definitely use Open Table as the place is always packed - not a surprise. read more

Winding down 2018 preparty line up of celebratory bars, stopped here. Basically a restaurant with bar attached to a SF boutique hotel (see my Yelp review on the hotel) nicely located at a corner . Enjoy views from the windows like Uber, Lyft, Franciscans hastily making their way to get ready for New Year's. A convenient place for happy hour or a meal catering to adults (no children noted at the time). Smack dab in the city, it boast the SF culture with the bar area being so small yet satisfied desire for apps and a drink with that SF vibe. Community high tops showed off more seatings occupied by coworkers mingling and talking about work end-of-the-year closures, next to restaurant tables that accommodated which looked more like couples chatting and dining. Came here for dinner with a friend last Monday. We had reservations for 6 but I don't think we actually needed them as the restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived. I wasn't super hungry so we split an order of the focaccia, and then I got the fried chicken thighs while my friend ordered the spinach tagliatelle. The focaccia was really good, I enjoyed the soft and chewy texture a lot. I wish the pieces were bigger but for the price I can't really complain. The fried chicken thighs were also good, but it felt like a lot for me to eat by myself. As much as I love fried chicken, by the end I was kind tired of eating it. The prosciutto was cut up into small bits and sprinkled over the chicken, so I ended up eating it separately from the chicken. It's an interesting combo to have fried chicken served with prosciutto, but since I ate them separate the effect was lost on me. I tried a bite of my friend's spinach tagliatelle and thought that was tasty as well. My favorite part about it was that it was piping hot when it was brought up to the table, so you can tell that it's very fresh from the kitchen. We paid $21 pp after tax and tip for the food. I loved that when they gave us the check, they also gave us a notebook where you could draw stuff. My friend and I added in our very expertly drawn (NOT) sketch of a girl holding a flower to the notebook :D read more
