72 hour balsamic glazed short rib
    Debrin S.

Walking into this intimate Italian gem in the quaint town of Ellington, I immediately exhaled. Warmly lit, graded by the staff with smiles, was inviting with its amusing 70s yacht rock music softly in the background felt welcoming on a cold Friday evening in February. The entire staff is friendly and upbeat and accommodating never made us feel rushed (it was actually a three hour dinner). The menu offerings are thoughtful, if not rather paired it down. Allowing the chef to give real attention to detail which was very evident in the dishes. Began with the special New England clam chowder. Full of tender clams, if not a tad bit on the salty side, but this was definitely made with love as we would agree with all of the following dishes we enjoyed. The calamari over arugula and plum tomatoes with lemon aïoli was bright and crispy and tender and simple. The beef meatballs were decent, not as tender as preferred but the whipped ricotta and sweet tomato sauce were a nice touch. Stand out was the fried brussels sprouts. Although this dish has been overwrought for some time on dining menus, this was full of flavor with tender surprising bits of carrot, Lardon, cranberries, and pecans. I really enjoyed the soft pillowy, sweet potato ravioli with its Gorgonzola cream, sauce, not salty, velvety wonderful texture. The true "must" on the menu is the 72 hour braised balsamic short rib served over hearty mashed potatoes. It was very flavorful and extremely tender. Lastly our fellow diners, as well as our server Nicole, highly recommended the ricotta donuts with caramel dipping sauce. The donuts were warm and rolled in cinnamon sugar incredibly tender interior because of the ricotta. The caramel dipping sauce is rich not overly sweet. I added a little salt. Should you find yourself in the area this is the perfect spot to hide away for a lovely dining experience.

    Eggplant Napoleon (sooooooo amazing!!!)

Love this woman-owned Italian restaurant. Food, drinks, and service are always absolutely outstanding! I recently had an eggplant dish there that was out of this world. Worth every penny! I want to call it fine-dining, but there is no pretentiousness. They don't even buff the spots from the wine glasses.

Stacy our waitress was amazingly kind, we walked in without a reservation with two kids and she happily sat us and let us know the best food items on the menu. We started with the calamari, burrata and truffle fries then had the short rib parpadelle which was amazing, the shrimp risotto and the kids bolognese as our main meals. The desserts were also perfect especially the fosters waffle ice cream. We will definitely be back! Thank you for the amazing experience!

The exterior is unassuming, to say the least, but the interior is warm and welcoming. We had the strongly recommended reservations and were promptly seated. Some lovely wines were forthcoming; I could not resist the "Prayers of Sinners and Saints" from Washington state, while my wife's Sella Antica Super Tuscan was superb. Warm bread and garlic oil arrived to whet our appetites. We celebrated her birthday with Pesce Del Giorno En Papillote (Sea Bass with saffron potatoes, herbs, lemon, capers, tomatoes, and olives) while I tucked into Braised Beef & Truffle Pappardelle with mushrooms, demi glace, and a touch of cream. Son wolfed the Spaghetti allo Scoglio with clams, mussels, white wine, garlic, and fresh parsley. We finished the feast with flourless chocolate cake, an apple tart, and raspberry truffle ice cream. The Trattoria features produce and products from local farms, and it shows. Very tasty throughout, and a wonderful way to celebrate any special occasion (or just the fact that it's Wednesday!)

    Rigatoni bolognese

This is a great Italian spot in Ellington. If I was in a deserted island with their rigatoni bolognese, I'd be in heaven. We've tried a lot of their apps & entrees and have consistently been impressed. Also the ricotta doughnuts with salted caramel ice cream.... amazing.

We looked online for local restaurants to dine at during our stay. Neither my girlfriend or I have ever gone to a French restaurant, so we decided on The Metro Bistrot, due to all the fantastic reviews. I called and spoke with Jay (chef and owner) a week prior to make the reservation. We took an Uber from the hotel, as it's BYOB and brought a couple of bottles of wine. This was a Saturday before a big snow storm the following day. I think due to this, the restaurant wasn't as busy as usual. We ended up being seated in the back room all to ourselves. It was a very nice room that had about 4 tables. Stephanie, our server was an absolute delight! Turns out she works for the hotel as well and she's the one I spoke with when we booked the room. She opened our Beaujolais for us and brought some wine glasses. She kept the bottle chilled in the fridge for us. She went over some of the specials being prepared that night and was able to make some nice recommendations. My girlfriend ended up with the special seafood soup special with a lobster stock as a base. I ordered the escargot. Both were absolutely fantastic. She kept our bread basket filled with wonderful fresh warm bread to soak up all the goodness of the soup and escargot. My girlfriend ordered the boar shank and I ordered the stuffed quail that was stuffed with foie gras and pate. The boar meat fell right of the bone and was some of the most tender meat we've ever had. Both dishes were phenomenal. Jay stopped by our table to chat. He's super nice and even took some photos with us. We ordered 3 different kinds of cheeses prior to ordering dessert. All three we ordered were great! Stephanie also brought us a bowl of crackers to go with the cheese. For dessert, my girl had the cheesecake with an oatmeal crust and fresh berries. I'm not usually one for sweets, unless it Crème Brûlée, so I opted for the Boursin stuffed Shrimp, forgetting it wasn't an appetizer, but a main entree. It was out of this world! All the fish Jay brings in are always fresh and NEVER frozen. He even poured me a small glass of some white wine and it went so well with the shrimp. We cannot wait to go back. The prices are very reasonable and the service and food is second to none. Cheers!

One chef and one server. It is byob and the menu isn't extensive. But it is mostly local and classic French. It is accessible and not pretentious. A place where the passion for French cooking is designed for locals. The food is interesting and has a casual vibe. Like a small village in France where farmers and artisans come. The space is small and seatings limited, so by the end of the night you can meet new friends if you want to. I would encourage you to bring an extra bottle of wine and share.

We returned for Father's Day and we were seated immediately without a reservation, though I think we just got lucky so I don't recommend this. We all shared the warm olives, the croquet poulet sandwich, the fries, the quiche lorraine, the chateubriand, the roasted beets, and the strawberry ice cream. It was all a hit, and when a 3.5-year-old and a 22-month-old are enjoying your food without any coaxing or help, you know it's fabulous! My husband got some cocktail and I got the phony Negroni mocktail. Service was great and the atmosphere is chic without being uptight or snobby at all. We all left really happy. I still dream about that sandwich. I'd love to go back and try other things on the menu. I'm sure they knock everything out of the park. I am hoping Le Mazet will be our special occasion restaurant.

Definitely need a reservation to get in on the weekend fyi! When we arrived we were seated at a beautiful booth. The interior is gorgeous here. Our server was fantastic I wish I remembered his name! He suggested some great items. We started with their steak frites and I cannot rave more about it! First this plate is definitely shareable. Among myself, my husband and young toddler we destroyed this. My daughter was eating so much of this steak and so were we! It was sooo tender and we loved the gravy on top. The fries were amazing and when they were drenched in that gravy it was chefs kiss! What really brought it all the together was the salad paired with it- it was light and refreshing and the dressing was so good! For dessert our server suggested the chocolate custard so we got that and a berry handpie. We ate both and kept saying "oh my god" with each bite. My daughter especially loved the chocolate custard but my husband and I loved both equally! We immediately said after our meal how we have to come back. We cannot wait to try other menu items and their cocktails next time. We are huge fans and will definitely be back!!

We were seated by the window and were given freshly baked bread. We ordered the French classics: mussels, escargot, duck leg confit, and steak and fries. The mussels came out first and were pretty average. I usually like sipping the wine broth it comes with or dipping fries/bread into the broth. The escargot had plenty of oil and seasoning. It was actually too salty even though my coworker requested less salt on everything. I enjoyed dipping the fresh bread into the oil. Lastly came the entrees. I was a bit disappointed in both of them. The hanger steak was cooked medium rare like I wanted but the texture was not great. I was hoping for a more tender cut and this was a bit tough and lean. The frites were cooked well and very crispy. The duck confit was very tender but I didn't think it was amazing. Overall I don't think I will be returning to this restaurant with so many other great options around. I might be biased as I am not too familiar with French cuisine but we already sampled most of the classics already.
