I've gone to this place multiple times, and I've never really been fully satisfied with my food. I've gotten burritos and nachos, and I felt like it was pretty mediocre. I like how they provide chips and salsa for us to eat while we wait for our food though. The guacamole is delicious, but pretty expensive. The service is a hit or miss. The last time I went, we had to flag down our waitress multiple times. It was almost impossible to get ahold of her. It was really busy, so I understand- but still... Check on your guests at least twice. I was debating giving my review two or three stars, but I thought I'd be nice. It's a great location though and the margaritas are amazing! Like many of the other reviews said, It's not the true authentic Mexican food you can find in other places, but I enjoyed their tacos and my bf's mom enjoyed her Shrimp Diablo dish. They have a nice selection in margaritas and our server was sweet and always asked us how we were doing. She kept the chips, salsa, and drinks coming out quick too. So, overall, the service and drinks made my experience over the food. If I want a chill spot in chico to go grab some tacos and drinks with friends I would consider coming by this place again. read more

This place is only busy because it is steps from campus. The only thing I have had here that was ok was their nachos with chicken. I have also had the Caribbean quesadilla and the bottom tortilla was completely soggy. The margaritas aren't bad the best is the Island margarita. Now the service is a hit and miss sometimes it's ridiculous and you are waiting for a long time and sometimes it's normal. It is just not great Mexican food and I don't recommend it. read more

i was craving some ceviche so decided to stop by. i had really high hopes and was a little disappointed. i was hoping for nice big pieces of fresh seafood and what i got was more like a seafood mash. so the texture was kind of spongey and the flavors were kind of muddled. the service was nice and i was well taken care of, so that's a plus. i'll probably come back and try again.....maybe i just won't have the ceviche again ;0) read more

Three stars because I was quite underwhelmed. Nothing particularly "bad" but it wasn't anything special either. I save 4 or 5 stars for places that stand out. The restaurant/bar itself is very trendy with a fun vibe. For a Wednesday night, it was just busy enough for me. I wanted somewhere to grab decent food, downtown, and not in a full-on bar. That was Tres Hombres, with the exception of the obnoxiously loud college girls talking about their bongs, who they slept with last weekend, and their constant, "Shut up! OMG!" The food seemed standard, their alcohol selection was extensive (lots of high end tequila), beer selection mediocre. If I wanted a hip, vibrant scene on a weekend, with a group of friends (21-25 year old friends), this might be the place. But to grab a bite to eat with a beer, there's got to be better in downtown Chico. read more

I'm mixed on this place. The food is ok but it seems mostly suited for groups. I've gone with groups of 8 or 10 and it works out great. But just a couple and my suggestion is to go elsewhere -- Chico has great dinner venues. The last time I went with just my wife and the hostesses were stuffy and just plain unfriendly. GREAT atmosphere for drinks on the weekend. Good spot to kick things off. Great aesthetic appeal on all fronts. Which is likely why "Bar" is prominent in the name before "Grill", because the food blows. If you're stuck eating there, the El Rey Quesadilla is decent, and the fish tacos CAN be really good. Service here is not that good. The food is definitely overpriced and you don't get what you paid for. Almost every time, my order is wrong. The menu says there will be certain ingredients in it, but they are missing when delivered to the table. The only thing reason I would recommend coming here is for their margaritas, which are a very good price during happy hour. Expect to have a long wait if its on a weekend. They also refuse to split checks which is very inconvenient when having dinner with a large group. read more

Make a reservation if it's a weekend! Food was good. Service As good! Speed was good! Food was hot and tasty! Had a group of 11 and was seated promptly at reservation time. Definitely worth the time. Clearly the bottle of bitters was pulled by mistake. We all sent them back. We had lunch here and the service was great! Unfortunately the food was average. Too "Americanized". The salsa had no bite whatsoever. We dropped our son off at Chico State yesterday, and of course had appetizers at Tres Hombres Long Bar & Grill. We go there every time we visit Chico. Great service, great food. We where referred by Chico alumni and the word was that this is the spot. We even asked directions from a local and were told that it was a "great choice!" Enjoy! read more

Went on a busy Friday night but worth the 20 minute wait. Loved the guacamole and chili relleno. Cerviche was great. Also had coconut shrimp taco and grilled fish taco. Tres is cool. I go there with my friends a lot to get appetizers n drink margaritas. Margaritas are usually good but can be inconsistent with flavor. Food is mediocre I prefer to do appetizers like the nachos n chingalingas are super bomb. Overpriced but happy hour is a good deal. Service is fine, nothing exceptional or to complain about. Location is downtown and close to campus. Staff is friendly. Service fast. They kept the chips and salsa coming. Seating for a larger party good. We had a couple of birthday lunch celebrations with parties for 10 or so and they are great about getting the food out to everyone at the same time. I think Tres Hombres food quality and sanitation has declined over the years. They used to be a really good place to eat despite their slow service, but my last two experiences have been very disappointing. I went in there about 4 months ago and ordered a salmon salad. It took about 45 min to an hour to arrive, and when it did the salmon was raw and the tomatoes were visibly rotten and moldy. My dad comes to Chico to visit every other month. From the way the restaurant looks outside, he thought it was a nice place to eat and he likes nice places, so I thought I would give them one more try. This time I ordered a chicken tostada salad. Within minutes of eating my salad, I found a long, black curly hair in it. I was so disgusted. I will never go back to that place. Someone needs to call OSHA to give them an inspection. Do not waste your time or money going to Tres Hombres. read more

Ever since I moved to Chico, people have been raving about Tres Hombres. My PG&E rep from when I first set up my service here even told me that this was the place to go when it starts to get warm outside. I visited Saturday (2.22.14) for an early dinner with my boyfriend and his mother. The food was nasty. My boyfriend's mother's pomegranate margarita had no pomegranate flavor at all, tasted purely of tequila. It was a waste of $11. The only saving grace of this restaurant is the beautiful outdoor seating, friendly service, and the chips and salsa. read more

Their margaritas are amazing and the building is so beautiful. Only complaints would be the food is pricey for only being so-so and at times it can be quite slow. I thought the point of owning a restaurant was to have customers eat there, but Tres expects me to feel lucky that they are serving me. When I was brought the wrong food, that I had not ordered, I nicely told the table boy that I actually was supposed to get something else. After the eye rolling and loud sigh, he asked me if I really needed that item I had ordered. When I responded yes, I received yet another sigh and eye roll. The food and service were good, we were seated and received our food quickly. I had the Carne Asada Fajitas and my wife had the Carne Asada Tacos. My daughters had the kids Enchiladas with rice and refried beans. One of my daughters came across a rock in her refried beans, we weren't really worried about the rock but wanted to let the waiter know. My wife informed the waiter, he later came back and said that he was very sorry and that his manager was taking care of our bill. read more
