Tropical Smoothie Cafe is a chain business that has locations throughout most states in the country. This particular location is in the city of Pittsburgh. A parking lot is located right near the restaurant. The menu of foods includes not only smoothies but also flatbreads, wraps, quesadillas, sandwiches, salads, breakfast foods, kids' foods, and sides. Please see my attached photos for most of the menu. Unfortunately, one of my photos for the menu of smoothies was blurry, so I will instead type those flavors here: Super Veggies (e.g., Avocolada, Detox Island Green, and Island Green) and Balanced Fusions (e.g., Açaí Berry Boost, Chia Banana Boost, Lean Machine, Peanut Paradise, and Triple Berry Oat). My husband and I ordered one Jetty Punch smoothie, which contained strawberries and bananas. Only one size was offered, and it was large and cost $6.39. I appreciated that this smoothie was fairly healthy and contained a fairly reasonable 370 calories. This smoothie tasted as expected--delicious and fruity. The employees' customer service was prompt and courteous. The only difficulty that my husband and I had was determining which line of customers was for placing orders versus waiting to receive smoothies.

On 4/20/24, I waited almost 30 minutes for an order that I never received and the supervisor Steve acted as if he didn't care. People were coming in after me getting their smoothies made. I opted to get a refund. I will never visit this Tropical Smoothie location again. Update 4/22/24, the general manager called me and made the situation right by providing me with 3 free smoothie gift cards. I love Tropical Smoothie Cafe! 5 stars!

This shop is part of a larger chain but currently appears to be the only location in the Pittsburgh area. It's located in East Liberty and is really more of a bakery than a coffee shop. The inside is split about 50/50, with half dedicated to seating and the other half serving as a self-serve bakery. You grab a tray and tongs before walking around selecting whichever baked goods catch your eye. They also have display cases filled with cakes and other pastries that need to be kept refrigerated. For my coffee on this morning I went with a 16 oz hot honey lavender macchiato while my wife chose a 16 oz iced tiramisu latte. I have to admit that the name of my drink confused me a bit at first, but it ended up being a latte macchiato as expected. With that being said, I thought it was quite good. The lavender was light enough to be noticeable without overpowering the drink, while the honey added just the right amount of sweetness. The espresso was also present, especially on the finish, where it added both flavor and body. My wife also enjoyed her latte and appreciated the tiramisu flavors throughout. Outside of the coffee, we ordered a number of pastries. My wife chose the Crookie, which is a cookie baked on top of a croissant. My son picked out a chocolate-covered Belgian waffle, while my daughter chose the strawberry soft bread. All of them enjoyed what they ordered, and I think my wife especially loved the Crookie. As for me, I went a little overboard and chose a garlic and cheese croissant, a curry croquette, pork-dusted bread, and a sweet taro cream bread. All of them were delicious in their own way. The garlic and cheese croissant was a nice savory option, with plenty of garlic flavor and a crispy cheese crust. The curry croquette had wonderful warming spices that made it especially flavorful. The pork-dusted bread was definitely the most unusual item. The pork topping reminded me of Wild Bill's Beef Jerky, and somehow those savory flavors worked really well on top of the crunchy laminated bread. Last but certainly not least was the taro cream bread. I was impressed by how light it felt despite being packed with an impressive amount of cream filling. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I'm a sucker for bakeries like this and clearly ordered far more than my waistline needed, but everything I tried was enjoyable. While the coffee was good, the pastries are the real reason to visit, with the coffee serving as an excellent complement.

My husband also enjoyed the almond croissant. We have also enjoyed cookies and cheesecake. The egg custard pastry is so creamy and delicious. The butter Madeleine is buttery goodness. Everyone is really nice there too. All the food is great.

Do you even know Pittsburgh restaurants, if you don't know Square Cafe?…read more Was it packed? Yes Did we have to wait? Yup But isn't that what we want for our favorite businesses ... and isn't even better when they are fully equipped for their popularity and make the experience great through it all We were immediately greeted by the hostess and given an accurate wait time. You could see the runners and bus team hustling to move along service and turn over tables. As soon as we were seated, the waiter came over and told us to be easy with orders and honestly our coffees and our meals came ridiculously quickly given that every table was fully seated. Okay... so that's how they are awesome despite the overwhelming popularity. Let's just cover the real scoop as to why they are so popular. The restaurant is colorfully decorated with local art and contact to purchase the displayed items. The table has a QR code of Pittsburgh Bucket List places to visit.. so this place is built on community. The menu is filled with modern yummy takes on food, options for every diet, and some extremely inventive local favorites.. I couldn't see a Reuben Benedict and not order it. Marbled Rye toasted with freshly pulled apart corned beef, Russian dressing, and of course a perfectly poached egg with hollandaise. My wife ordered the Chive Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich... and let me tell you that biscuit would be good for every meal of the day! The seasonal drink menu sounds delicious too but we went with a Chai Tea Latte and a French Toast Latte. This place is a Pittsburgh destination! You gotta go to Square Cafe!

I got a warm bowl with brown rice, spinach, cucumber, apple, edamame, citrus chicken thigh, and organic tofu. The portion was solid and filling, especially with the two protein add-ons at extra cost. I also tried the avocado creme sauce, but it was a little spicier than I expected, so I was glad it came on the side. Without it, the bowl tasted a bit plain. I'd still come back and try a different sauce or mix-in combo because it feels like a solid healthy option. Also worth noting: adding a smoothie to a bowl order drops the price to $6 instead of $8, but you have to add it through the bowl order rather than as a separate item. The Tropicolada smoothie was really refreshing and I'd definitely order it again.

You can create your own bowl or salad or wrap or choose one from the menu. They also have smoothies. I built a bowl/salad with spinach and red quinoa, and added mushrooms, broccoli and cucumbers. You get 3 toppings and you pay more for extra. Every protein is an additional cost. I got the chicken (around $3 additional). And then you get 1 included dressing, I got the agave mustard. I was pleasantly surprised by the bowl and thought it was tasty! I will say I wish you could get more included with your bowl, places like sweetgreen or cava or even chipotle lets you get however many toppings you want, and it feels more limited here (unless you want to pay extra). It would be nice if they allowed you to have 2 dressings too, 1 seemed kinda stingy. Good for a healthy quick casual meal in Pittsburgh!
