Not the first time I've been to this restaurant, but first time for dinner as I usually join coworkers for lunch. Kind of a different experience as far as entrée sizes and prices. For lunch I feel it's a moderately good deal but for dinner I was a little surprised at the portion size compared to the price, we did enjoy all of our dishes but having a hard time with the value. The charred cauliflower appetizer was tasty but small portion for over $12. The lasagna Bolognese made with a chicken sausage was equivalent of two large raviolis stacked on top of each other. For $20 I would expect a bigger portion. Overall a higher rating due to the ambience of the restaurant and service was good. read more

Arrived at 10am on a Saturday. We were one of the first ones there. Smelled of cleaning solution when we entered. I guess that's good. The interior was spacious with lots of booths and tables. I'm always looking for something healthy since I'm a pescatarian so we ended up here at True Food Kitchen. Our waiter was very nice and very, very honest about the menu items. When we asked him about the guac and chips, he was honest and said the guacamole is good, but a lot of people send the chips back. We asked for a sample and they were indeed terrible. The 3 of us ordered the Thai peanut noodle bowl...good choice! My sister ordered extra peanut sauce and I needed salt. This would be a perfect dish if there were crushed peanuts on the top. After the move to the 'burbs from the city, I was happy to find another True Food in Oak Brook. I actually really enjoy this restaurant - as does my husband. Delicious healthier alternatives. The restaurant is much smaller than the Chicago location - so potentially reservations are needed. One of our favorite apps is the charred cauliflower and it did not disappoint. Really delicious. For entrees - I got the True Blue Burger - loved the blue cheese on it and my husband got his usual fave of the Turkey Burger. I wanted to try something different so I was able to find seating on a busy weekend night in the Oak Brook Mall. I was able to make reservations on the TFK website but honestly, it did not matter as they seem to accommodate people in the same order as first-come-first-serve. The menu is vast and I jumped into order 5 dishes as the items seems like a very unique blend of locally sourced fresh and in-seasoned ingredients in all their entrees. The server was very courteous on explaining the menu to us. We ordered a "Chopped Salad" which came very quick and was the tastiest in the entire bunch. Plenty of dried fruits and the vinaigrette was not overly saturated on all my greens. The dish was enough for 2 people. $14. Next was the entrees, we ordered the Kids version "Grass-fed Burger" which was great in the size but fell short in taste. The edge of the meat was burnt which was made the entire taste of the burger like chewing on ash. $10. We also ordered an adult version of the "Turkey Burger", this was good and probably the best, which was very juicy and dressed with lettuce and tomato. $16 Another try was the "Spicy Panang Curry" which on it's own does not come with any proteins but the waiter upsold the dish to us to add a protein but forgot to tell us that there was a charge of $6 to add 4 pieces of chicken. $18+$6=$24, small portions for 1 person only. Overall, this dinner was mediocre but I guess for the exclusiveness of local sourced, in-seasoned ingredients, you can convince yourself that you are eating heathy. We decided to give True Food Kitchen a try since we don't normally eat that kind of food. Restaurant was clean and vibrant. Our server was genial and helpful with any recommendations. Prices are a bit expensive since they have a lot of vegan and gluten free options. We tried the kale aid drink which was very healthy and refreshing. For food, we tried edamame dumplings, O.G. Grass fed burger, and teriyaki quinoa bowl with shrimp. Edamame dumplings were very delicious, nice use of white truffle oil with herbs. The burger is probably in my top 5 favorite burgers of all time. Meat was not dry it was succulent. Each bite was better than the last. The quinoa bowl with shrimp was okay like a . I've been here a few times. Food still delivers. I got the vegan burger, walnuts and vegan cheese. It was very nice. I would have loved the bun to have been a little softer or grilled to crisp it up. It was a little on the dry side. The burger itself was a nice change to veggie burgers. The sweet potato hash was a great balance to the burger. A little burned in places but still good. It's always treat coming here when we are in the area! The staff is always friendly and very knowledgeable about their drinks and food. The food is alway great! I try my best to try something new every time I am there! Always fresh, tasty, and leaves you feeling full, but energetic! The drinks are always great too, sometimes a little strong :) but I don't think that is a bad thing. The thing I would warn others about is their meatloaf I believe. It seems to be cold meatloaf, which was good, just interesting. I am glad I tried it, since I am always curious, but I think I prefer hot meatloaf. Otherwise, everything is simply great. Head out to Oakbrook Shopping Center and try True Food Kitchen. Located on the outside edge of the mall near Crate and Barrel - where we were actually headed. We were greeted warmly upon entering even though it was a busy Saturday night. We were told a 30-40 minute wait and we put our name on the waitlist. Cool vibe lots of talking and laughing and good people watching our table was ready in 35 minutes. The menu is extensive and truly has something for everyone with lots of vegan and GF options. Great cocktail selection made even better by offering fruit spritzers for the non alcoholic crowd to which you could add your favorite booze to make a cocktail! We ordered a peach lemonade plus vodka and a flute of Cava. Appetizer - after a lot of back and forth we settled on edamame guacamole and house made baked tortilla chips. This was incredibly good. The guacamole was fresh with great texture and the baked chips we seasoned and super crunchy. Main dishes - we both chose bowls - Teriyaki quinoa bowl plus grilled shrimp and a Burrito bowl plus grilled chicken. The chicken was so tender you could cut it with a fork and the shrimp was perfectly cooked. Each dish was delicious and portions are good. Both were made with brown rice and quinoa with flavorful sauces and lots of colorful veggies. We ate everything on our plates so sadly no room for dessert... this time. read more

I am not sure how I have not done a review of True Food yet. We have eaten at the one in Scottsdale, Arizona, downtown Chicago, and Oakbrook several times. We have had great food and service at all the locations. The gluten-free squash pizza was very tasty. Our cauliflower appetizer was so good that I didn't even get a picture before we polished it off. Everyone in our party of five was happy with their meals and we all had something different. We first walked in and noticed that the restaurant was not that busy. The patio was fairly full. Most of the staff looked extremely young. We were met with our server. I would not say we were greeted because she did not greet us. She looked bored unenthused and aggravated that she actually had a customer which was my wife and myself. We get the same drinks everywhere we go Arnold Palmer's any glass of water. She walked away and we were able to look around and enjoy the patio, which I thought was extremely nice it definite plus and good addition to the restaurant I began to get into conversation with my wife And noticed that it has been some time since we have received their drinks. It was over 15 minutes again. I'd like to state that restaurant was not busy. It was about the time that I noticed how long we were waiting that our server came and dropped our Arnold Palmer off with no water. She asked if we were ready to order. I told her yes I went with a Poké bowl and my wife did the same but with chicken, I then asked her. Can we please get some waters? She told us that she would get them. The waters never came. I noticed that there was a table sitting next to us that had a arrive before we did. She also was taking care of this table. She never spoke with them which now must have been close to 25 to 30 minutes it was appalling. I could see that this table was extremely agitated. While we were still waiting for anything to arrive to our table, a family arrived with a dog. I'm sorry, but I think it is not a place in any restaurant no matter if it's a service animal or not to bring a dog that will be sniffing around my food tables were some close together, and the dog was right by my foot. As if this was something out of a Monty Python skit, the waitresses ran with the a newfound energy to bring this dog, a bowl of water and a bowl to put his food in. I could do nothing but laugh myself and see that patrons are waiting to be served or even greeted but they are jumping over each other to bring a dog better service than humans. Our food arrives to our table, not from our waitress, but from some other food runner he asked is there anything else that we can get us? I said I'd like some water and a refill of our Arnold Palmer's. He said he would get our server. My dish was completely laughable. We're talking about a Poké bowl that is around $30 and the portion was 80% spinach leaves hardly no rice hardly any tuna. I could've grabbed the entire amount and put it into my hand. That's how small it was. My wife dish did not look much better, but she did have more food. There was literally nothing special about the flavors. Everything was some bland. I got much better Poké bowl at a Poké Brothers or I would spend not even one third of the price of this. Our drinks never came tables with patrons sat with no service. I Could not keep my mouth shut any longer. I saw would look to be a manager and I was correct. It was a young lady. I told her this was an awful experience. I told her that we still never received waters that we are sitting here waiting for our server sucking on ice cubes. I showed her the size of my mail and said that this is ridiculous for the price. I then asked her are you all shortstaffed or are you extremely busy? She looked at me with and matter-of-factly said no, we're not busy and no, we are not shortstaffed. I said so what is the excuse for the horrible service? I then pointed to the table next to me that had not been served the entire time we had been sitting she said there is no excuse she asked if this was the first time that we have died here I said no actually it was the second time the first time was awful and this was even worse. She left and said oh so we're doing really great. I'm sorry. She said can I get you some dessert on the house? I said no I'd actually just like to leave. She took our check and came back and told us feel bad about your bad experience. I comped your Arnold Palmer's wow thank you so much for saving me five dollars. For an awful experience. This was the first time I think I've ever done this. I left no tip for our server. I'm not gonna keep recording servers for horrendous service, especially when there's no excuse. I was a bartender for many years. I also was a restaurant manager and server. My sister is still a server. My mother was a waitress believe me. I am very sympathetic to the service industry. It's not easy but there's no excuse for awful service for multiple tables for the most basic needs of a patron. My original review of this restaurant stays the same. The food is obnoxious in flavorless. The prices are exorbitant. The service is awful. I give a rating of 2 out of 10 the only reason this received a two was because of the very nice patio. My final thought is this maybe if you were a dog you will get better treatment than the humans. read more

Got seated promptly on a fairly busy Tuesday evening and had our server (Mark?/Mario?) help my family and I through the new seasonal Menu. We got the Brussel Sprouts and focaccia as a starter. If you're a fan of peanut butter cups, their Peanut Butter Tart is an amazing dessert. True food always has a nice clean ambiance, and friendly staff. My wife and I were excited to try your brunch since we love your food so much, but she definitely put a damper on our experience with her eye rolling. I absolutely love the food at True Food Kitchen. It is exactly what the name of the restaurant states, It is real, true food that is good for you and you feel good about putting it in your body. That is not my concern when I am eating at TFK. My experience today was the service. The waiter was extremely polite but either not trained well, or not educated enough about the menu and pricing system, not sure which. We were there at 12:00 noon for lunch. I ordered the lunch trio special. When I received my bill it was almost $36 when it said it was $19.50. I did get the add on chocolate chip cookie, but that was suppose to be a $2 add on. I am not sure what happened because I brought the bill to the concierge at the front greeters desk and she took it and I went back to my table. The waiter returned and handed the bill back and it was fixed to I guess the correct price but without the add on for the cookie. No explanation, no apology for the mistake, no reason to trust it will not happen again, since I do not know what happened in the first place. I feel it would have been nice if either the waiter or the manager could have at least spoke to me with some sort of explanation. My experience was not what I expect from TFK . Eating out is expensive these days. TFK uses quality ingredients and well thought combinations and varieties. This I know. If the whole dining experience is ruined by lack of concern for the customer, I have to second guess if it is worth dining there again. Love True Foods! I try to eat healthy and eating dinner here any dinner or lunch is a great choice. Love that they also have a wide selection of high quality drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, both often have fresh juices or edible flowers or other amazing surprises like muddled berries). Healthy & fun too. And I'm a pescatarian and love that I can order anything and pick my proteins. I ordered tofu today and truthfully, I remembered to ask to season the tofu (or it might come out plain). I did and it was wonderfully seasoned with a lemon oregano dressing and then grilled. The tofu had a really great flavor in the ancient grains bowl even before mixing it with the dressing in that bowl. Valerie, our server, was really awesome! She understood my risk-taking in ordering just 'tofu' (as a lot of places don't do it right and season it well). She spoke to the chef about seasoning and it came out so good! I stopped in recently to grab a to go order. I've never eaten here before, but wanted to give it a try. The atmosphere of the restaurant was bright and airy-a pleasant vibe. I ordered the citrus salmon salad. I ignored the prices, but quickly realized my mistake when presented with the bill. After I tipped 20%, my small salad ended up being $31. I've never minded spending money on good food, and this was a tasty little meal, but certainly not worth $30. It's just lettuce with minimal toppings and a small piece of salmon. It tasted good, but it's nothing I can't make at home (and with a lot less sodium). I probably wouldn't go back, just based on pricing alone. read more

Let me start with I'm not big on healthy eating. I should be, but I'm not. With that being said the place is nice. Casual but modern. My waitress was very nice. Now on to the meal. We begin with the edamame guacamole, imo it was just ok. 4 of the 6 in my party liked it. But I would say they're healthier eaters. It came with umami crackers. For my main I ordered the grilled Korean Steak, medium well. It was cooked fairly decently. It was juicy and tender. It had a little spice too it though. A little after kick. Not particularly hot, but definitely unexpected. And the other dish I sampled was the smoked gouda turkey burger on gluten free bread, I just tried the burger. Everything was just ok.
