I may not be a native Texan, but I am a proud transplant that has been here for +10 years. After road tripping around the state for a decade I am so happy to have a good bbq place down the street. I really enjoy getting bbq here. My kids love it too. I split the 3 meat plate with my tiny people and it is plenty. The turkey is always moist, the sausage is flavorful but not too spicy, and the brisket is good and not dry. My favorite sides are the Mac and cheese and the potato salad. I am super picky about potato salad, I am spoiled after my mom's, and I do not say this lightly because 9/10 I do not like. But this is my favorite potato salad in town!! My bigger half also got the special this last visit of the jalapeño popper sandwich, and dang it was big, hot, delicious and was photogenic. I loved that it had the raspberry spread with cream cheese in addition to the bbq and jalapeño, it rounded out the whole sandwich, it was a fun ride. If you are in a pickle and starving, just need to eat some good grub, need to go grocery shopping and know better than to go on an empty stomach or just want som good Q come on over. This was my first time ordering from TTBBQ. I ordered two of the holiday meals for my family's Christmas Eve gathering. You get ALOT for the money. Especially compared to the competition (Who I normally order from). But the food was disappointing. The mashed potatoes and green bean casserole were good. The stuffing was OK, but odd. It had a smoky flavor like it was barbecued as well. The turkey was the worst. it was crusted with salt and pepper. It was so salty, no one ate it (good thing we also had ham and tamales). I have been trying to use the left overs in soups and such as to dilute to spice. I have tried most of the bbq places/trucks in the northern half of San Antonio and I think the HEB food is the most consistent of all and tastes better than most. Wowzers is this place a surprise and a treat. As much as I love H-E-B, I would never suspect a restaurant inside one, let alone a BBQ place, to be this good! Ok is it the best BBQ you will ever have? Probably not. Does it have solid brisket? Yes! There are so many choices, I really wish I got to try more. They have everything you could ever want from a bbq place! There's so much variety in sides. I tried the sliced brisket sandwich (brisket is my go to at any bbq place), and it was smokey and delicious. I am no BBQ connoisseur, but I have had my fair share of TX bbq (Salt Lick, Rudy's, Lufkin's BBQ). I honestly love Rudy's brisket and will compare it since Rudy's is accessible to people across Texas. The brisket in their sandwich is similar to Rudy's moist brisket, however maybe this brisket is slightly fattier. I will double check next time if they do offer lean vs moist in their sandwiches! They do offer, like Rudy's, lean vs moist brisket vs cutter's choice by the pound. They advertise that their meats don't have artificial ingredients, hormones, or preservatives, which I think is awesome! BBQ especially should be about the essence of the meat itself in my opinion. The prices are not exorbitant, but to be honest Rudy's is cheaper. I can't say overall which is better yet, because I haven't tried a greater variety of True Texas BBQ's menu. However there is no Rudy's close to here, so simply for distance sake at least try this place! I will be back for sure! I also got to try a side salad and banana pudding. The salad is actually wonderful with sweet tiny tomatoes, spring mix, and cucumbers. The dressings they have are Tessamae, which if you haven't tried are delicious, fresh, and all organic! Banana pudding was free courtesy of their text club. There's a sign right outside advertising it, so join if you want to try it for free! The pudding was a little too sweet for me, and I love sweets. Still yummy though. Can't go wrong with banana pudding. Overall I think True Texas BBQ lives up to the hype. Definitely check this place out. It might surprise you. read more

I tried this BBQ spot out 2 weeks ago and I'm very biased when it comes to bbq. I am one of the best pit masters in Texas and I have been featured multiple times on SA Live. When I went for the first time and ordered their brisket my lord it was the best brisket that I have had compared to mine. It was moist juicy and flavorful hands down a perfect 10. I went back a second time during the week and had their brisket and pork ribs. Trust me when I say this it did not disappoint. I went back a 3rd time had brisket, ribs, Mac and cheese and once again it was in point for the 3 peat. When I say this stop by and check them out they even have a drive through. The service was amazing, inside was clean. This is an update to my review below. We have been regulars on Tuesday for their $1 draft beer. Not a beer drinker myself, I was excited to see they finally have margaritas. I was happy to order the Mango margarita however when I took one look at the very pale yellow drink, I started to have my doubts. Boy, what a disappointment! That was the worst margarita I have ever had and for $4 I feel a little robbed! It tasted like a watered down lemonade slushy from 7-11. Needless to say, I'll stick with iced tea from now on. Came in on a Tuesday and they have $1 draft beer!! Can't get better than that! Ordered the turkey plate with creamed corn and brisket beans. All of it was awesome! For out of Townes and for locals - we have heard great reviews about the new HEB with the BBQ resto inside. Man oh man, it was great! We ordered the loaded baked potato with brisket - which is super heavenly! tender, juicy, smoked perfect brisket was topped on a huge baked potato with cheese, sour cream and green onions. So so soooo good and make sure you top it off with the sweet BBQ sauce from the fixings bar :) My husband ordered the brisket sandwich and it was so delicious!!!!! I was craving some BBQ and since it was just down the road I figured, why not. The service was good and the food was out in 5 minutes so the timing was good. Then I got to taste the 3 sandwiches which seemed to be made by a kid. Sliced brisket sandwich was 4/10, smoked sausage was a 2/10, and the pulled pork was not even edible it tasted so bad. So I went in not expecting much. H-E-B is awesome at a-lot of stuff but they couldn't possibly make good Bar-B-Que. Man was I wrong. The Brisket Sandwhich is one of the best I have had. I have been to a-lot of the Texas Bar B Que spots that you are told to try living here and this was a very good surprise. Afterwards, I checked the reviews and it was surprising to only see 3.5 stars. If you look at the history, most of these were from last year when they first opened. Pretty darn good for BBQ at a grocery store! I had been wanting to try this place since I do not think HEB has opened one of these in Austin, yet. I was in San Antonio and stopped by before heading home. I ordered the 3 meat platter with a side of brisket beans and cornbread. Ordered "moist" brisket, sausage and smoked chicken. Also, ordered a fully-loaded baked potato with chopped brisket. Everything was as expected and quite tasty. All of the meats had a great smokey flavor, but the chicken breast was especially good and I managed to make a couple meals out of the chicken. The baked potato with butter, cheese, green onions and a generous portion of the chopped brisket was really tasty and kept fresh (refrigerated) for a meal the next day! I did note 2 small downsides: 1) The portion of beans with brisket was very flavorful, but the portion seemed tiny to me. 2) It would have been nice to get a small serving of BBQ sauce. I don't recall any in my take out package. Anyway, I look forward to returning to True Texas BBQ and to a location opening in the Austin area! What an ordeal. We ordered a ton of food through Grub Hub and it was completely wrong. The worst of it all was that we ordered extra BBQ sauce and actually received NONE. Literally, it one ounce of BBQ sauce. Isn't that why you try BBQ is to see who has the best cuts of meat and best sauce? When we received the order and noticed right away there was no sauce we called. They blamed it on the driver. I asked why would he be responsible for packing the meal when he was with a different company. What do they do for carry out? Different protocol? I was told I need to talk to a manager. We had a customer meeting coming up, so all the "Big bosses" were in town. They wanted Texas BBQ, so somebody mentioned this place as having the best in Texas. Off we went. Then I got my drink and headed outside to get a table. It wasn't long before the food was ready. You have to pick it up at the same area where you ordered. However, that makes sure your food is hot. Somebody ordered a plate of ribs to share. I decided to try that first, and it was ok. I then unwrapped my sandwich and took a great big bite. It was really good. Then I took a bite of beans, and oh my, what a disappointment! They were, cold, bland, and tasteless. So as for a rating for each item goes: Sandwich = 4 Rib = 2 Beans = 1. I've been coming here intermittently to get my BBQ fix. They serve beer and margaritas, y'all! You can go hang out then grocery shop or vice versa. They did a fairly good job at not letting you feel like you're in the grocery store once you walk in. I've tried brisket... pretty good and on par with other 4 star BBQ places. BBQ sauce is good and pickles are real good (that's important to me). They serve big red at the fountain and that is a nice touch. The star of the menu is the turkey. It's moist and flavorful. Mac n cheese is definitely the good kind so don't miss that. I've tried the potato salad, but I can't even remember it and I haven't ordered it again so what does that tell you? We had the brisket chili and I really liked it. But they don't serve it with anything so that's not well planned and they apparently think very highly of it because it's darned expensive. My daughter got pulled pork frito pie and they practically only gave her Fritos. I had to add 1/3 of my chili to her plate. One time I got the green beans. Do yourself a favor and just go buy a can of green beans off the shelf it has more flavor. Get a cobbler it's good and the banana pudding is also really tasty. read more

This New HEB BBQ has some great tasting BBQ. The True Texas BBQ is a nice relief from Grady's or Ruby's BBQ, their pulled pork is juicy and soft with a great BBQ taste. Don't forget to check out the frito pie!!! I recommend the 1/4 pound vs the 1/2 pound, these things will fill you up and it's a great hunger relief before you start your shopping. They've improved 10x in the past couple of years. It's excellent. You can pay double elsewhere and not get better BBQ. They also offer lean brisket or fatty brisket ON the menu so if you have a preference you're encouraged to ask. read more
