The food was good and priced reasonably especially for a downtown restaurant. My husband had the braised pork shank and it was tender and delicious but my pasta with pork belly was on the blend side. However, the pasta was perfectly cooked. Loved the arugula salad with the lemon dressing. It was light and went perfectly well with the crispy prosciutto. The restaurant was a bit on the noisy side. It was probably close to a theatre because the waiter asked if we had tickets to the theatre. Overall an enjoyable dinning experience. read more

Fantastic food. I felt like I was back in Rome. Our server James went above and beyond. Halfed my meal for me no problem when I asked for something small. Suggested a salad after letting us know the chicken we ordered would take a little time. He added the most delicious gorgonzola cheese to the salad and it was excellent. I was recently in Seattle staying at the W Hotel downtown. This restauarant was recommended to my husband and I by our cocktail waitress at the W. We loved the food, the service, and the ambience. It is an old fashioned Italian restaurant with flavors from Northern Italy. I had the veal and my husband had the pork shank. Both entrees were great! Be prepared for very large portions! My wife took me here for our 2nd anniversary, I have nothing but good things to say about this place. There was a mix up with our table in the beginning, but they quickly made things right. The server's were extremely polite and knowledgeable about the items on the menu and made sure everything was perfect from the get go. The SWEET POTATO GNOCCHI (yes, I meant to put that in all caps) was unbelievable... I had a spicy pasta dish which was great but I'm really wishing I would have gone with the smoked salmon ravioli. When we are in Seattle we always look forward to eating at Tulio, until our most recent dining experience. What a disappointment. The service was wonderful, and that's what saved the evening, but the quality of the food was nowhere near what it has always been. The salads were drowning in their dressing and the pasta dishes we ordered were utterly tasteless. We shared a dessert, and that was fine, but it certainly didn't make up for the rest of the meal. Valentine's day was great. We started with the sweet potato gnocchi and the butter lettuce salad. I liked the gnocchi quite well, though my fiancée thought the filling was a bit under seasoned for her taste. The salad was kind of awkward to eat - the leaves were whole and it required a lot of cutting. The entrees were wonderful. I had the duck/black risotto combo and she had the lamb. The duck was seasoned really nicely, though it was done a bit less than I would have liked - it was definitely closer to rare than medium rare. The lamb was stupendous - great seasoning on the outside, a nice sear, and quite juicy on the inside. For dessert, we went with the pistachio cream and the blueberry cannoli. The pistachio dessert may rank in my top 5 of all time... the combinations of chocolate, cream, pistachio, and orange were out of this world. The cannoli's cream was good, the blueberry paired well, but there were occasional dark chocolate bits that seemed to clash with the blueberry. The service was friendly, and lacked the Seattle eliteness that a lot of the fine dining restaurants in the city seem to ooze. We'll be back for sure. read more

I had the pasta with homemade ricotta and mushrooms. Very disappointed!! Grossly overly seasoned with what tasted like black pepper. Barely could taste the mushrooms, pasta, or ricotta. Whoever seasoned this one was neither thoughtful nor attentive. A response from the restaurant will go a long way here. Not up to Kimpton standards. The ricota salad was ordinary. Originally posted one star. NB: Manager stepped up after my one star review and followed up. So I moved my review up to a three star. Hope to go back and reassess. ACT TWO: I returned to Tulio. Every dish was perfect. I was going to order The homemade pasta with ricotta and mushrooms, the dish I commented on earlier, but it was not on the menu. My son and I settled on mixed green salad, a pasta dish and a ribeye. If you order the orecchiette, don't expect your grandma's rapini and sausage sauce. The Tulio spin leans more toward a subtle salsa flavor. At first bite, I was thinking disappointment, but as I continued, I found the medley of flavors outstanding. read more

We ate here for breakfast on the last day of our stay at Hotel Vintage. We arrived about 45 minutes before they close and felt bad about it, however the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. I had the waffle with hazelnut chocolate spread and my husband had the chefs special omelette of the day. We both loved our food but couldn't help but feel that the prices were a little much for what it was, our coffee was five dollars each which is more than I spend for better coffee at an independent shop. Fantastic food! My favorite so far is a sweet potato gnocchi. Portions are somewhat small for the price but the wine is a fair value for a great selection. The waitstaff has nailed a wine recommendation every time, managing to capture exactly what I was looking for. They will never turn you away if you show up in casual attire but you will probably feel underdressed. read more

Our first visit to Tulio, while planning to go to a show at the fifth Avenue Theater. I had the namesake salad, essentially a Ceasar. Very good. My wife had the mixed greens. She was happy with it too. I had the pork shoulder, one of their signature dishes. My wife had the roast chicken. Both were perfectly prepared and presented. Service was timely but not hovering. We were they early on a Sunday night (pre-show) and they were conscious of potential time constraints. Might be our new downtown dinner spot. read more

Went here last year on a recommendation by our valet at the hotel for dinner. Incredible food! We had a delicious cheese, grilled bread, & cherry appetizer, then I had the lemon risotto with roasted chicken, while my boyfriend had delicious ravioli! They also brought out a pistachio semi fredo for dessert. I used to fantasize about this lemon risotto, but adapted my own recipe at home and now fix it all the time! The restaurant was packed (at 6pm!). They were so nice and found us a table in the bar after a short wait. This place was okay. The gnocchi was delicious. It was served piping hot and the outside was nice and crispy while the inside was light and fluffy. However the main dish was a different story. I ordered the Orecchiette. The sausage was pretty bland, it wasn't salted enough and it wasn't spicy at all. Six of us just dined there just two hours ago. Tulio is one of our favorite restaurants in Seattle, possibly our #1 favorite. Some of us chose the halibut (a menu special), others chose the Branzino. I had the asparagus soup; others had the sweet potato gnocchi, and salads. The Branzino was perfect; as was the halibut. The experience, the food, and the wine were superb. The setting is historic, but lively. Reminiscent of Seattle's deep history, but full of festive diners. As an antipasti, I had the sweet potato gnocchi, which was exquisite. Slightly crusty on the outside, and thick and creamy on the inside, with amazing flavor throughout and a decadent but light oil-based sauce highlighted with mascarpone. Whether or not you're a fan of sweet potatoes or gnocchi, you'd be a fool not to try this. I'd come back to this restaurant just to have it again. For my second course, I had the chicken. Good and succulent, on a bed of risotto, although the sauce was somewhat salty. When I come back again for the gnocchi, I'll probably try a different main course. Wine selection was also very good, with local and Italian wines by the glass. I highly recommend the Oregon Pinot Noir. The Washington Cab is also very good, if you are used to (and like) Washington Cabs, which are very different than California Cabs. read more

My husband, 3 month old baby, and I were well accommodated today. Honestly, during a busy weekday lunch we didn't expect to be so welcomed. We were warmly welcomed by a man at the door who told us our baby and stroller were "of course welcomed"-to what seemed to be a busy city day lunch time. Although it did take some time to get our drink order in, our salads were brought out quickly! In fact a hostess asked if we "needed anything warmed up (bottles etc)" - I felt this was a conscientious observation for our visit and for this new mother... Good job Tulio. Thank you for showing us we could not only take our infant daughter to a busy restaurant in the thick of a Seattle day time lunch -but that we could feel taken care of quickly in doing so. We basically starved ourselves the whole day because we wanted to eat as much as we could here after all these awesome reviews! Good sized portions... I hate those fancy restaurants where you pay an arm and a leg and get a bite... Anyway, if I had to choose and re-order our meal, I wouldn't change a thing! Tulio serves up delicious food and my family and I stuff ourselves every time we eat there! I never order chicken at restaurants because it never sounds as exciting as other dishes, but...you MUST order the chicken at Tulio! The crispy skin is unbelievable! YUM! The orechietti pasta with broccoli and sausage is also great, always a toss up which one I am going to order! The tiramisu is good, but not the best I have ever had at all. We loved the chocolate molten cake dessert (I don't think it is called that but I can't remember!) as well as the chocolate gelato. Great Italian food! read more
