We were very pleasantly surprised by a very robust and vibrant brewery with an extremely competent kitchen. Those of us who were satiated at the lesser establishment simply imbibed on ale, seltzer, and cider (all exemplary,) while those who still had hunger ordered meat with bread and fried potatoes and gave them great acclaim. We grabbed beers and appetizers on Mother's Day. Beer was delicious, and apps were really good! We ordered food to go and that's where the stars got taken away. We ordered a kids cheeseburger, kids Mac and cheese and kids chicken tenders, the sweetie (grilled chicken) and the monthly special Alfredo pizza. The kids cheeseburger and chicken tenders were beyond burnt and the Mac and cheese had no flavor. I was so confused what the "chicken tenders" were when I opened them at home. I thought it was jerky. Came here on a Sunday afternoon with a reservation and the host didn't acknowledge my family and I nor did she want to clean off a table for our party of 6. The restaurant ran out of CO2 so all of the soda was flat and the manager was indifferent about it. We ordered bruschetta which was awful; it seemed to be regular bread with balsamic vinaigrette and that's it. The nachos were embarrassing and sad as they appeared to have melted Kraft cheese, stale "tortilla" chips and came out cold. The manager had did everything to avoid talking to my family or provide any restitution. Two Hound Red is the newest spot to open in downtown Glen Ellyn and it is a wonderful place to grab a bite or have a brew. Grab yo' kids, grab yo' wife... drop in and check out 2HR right now! On our way to have dinner at another local establishment a friend and I glanced up the street and noticed that 2HR's doors were open and the crowd was lively. We immediately made an about face and strode in with purpose. The staff greeted us with a warm smile and we were seated immediately. Our waitress made her way over and it was game on. The decor is rustic-renovated... or whatever the official terminology for the hipster aesthetic is... and the atmosphere is very chill and welcoming. In fact, the original exposed-beam roof is really something to take in and I'm glad they left it open to the eyes. There is a sizable bar, a bunch of high and low tables, and seating near the front windows (which open on nice days/evenings). The mosaic in the entryway sets the tone and the rest of the restaurant does not disappoint. The beer menu is concise but has a little bit something for everyone. The food menu, on the other hand, has a wide variety of options. The starters we had were all tasty but the pizza left a bit to be desired... perhaps some tweaking is needed on those. The staff is welcoming and attentive, knowledgable and responsive. There does seem to be the slightest air of nervousness from some but nothing that won't be vanquished in short time, I'm confident. There is a lot of promise with Two Hound Red and it is a wonderful addition to the breadth of options that downtown Glen Ellyn has to offer. I hosted my husband's 40th birthday party at Two Hound Red Brewing and cannot recommend this establishment enough for a private social event. I worked with Jordan ahead of the event to coordinate plans, and he was present on the day of the event to ensure that the space was set up just the way we wanted it and that everything ran smoothly. We had a group of approximately 25 guests, and the room in the back was the perfect size to comfortably fit us all. I loved that we were able to choose our table arrangement and decorate as desired. Our guests had a wonderful time, and we received many compliments about the food and drinks, the service, and the space. Very cool atmosphere here. It looks like the inside of an old grain factory with the brick walls and wood pillars. The beer is quality for sure, but don't expect the crazy fruited or hazy IPAs. They have the basic choices of lagers, Pilsners, IPA, Porter, etc. The food is really quite good. I got the cheese curds and loved them. Perfectly breaded and nice bread to cheese ratio. Former resident in town for drinks and food. Did fish and fries special for lent. Hands down worst meal I've ever had. Soaked in grease, so salty it made you gag. First Friday of lent so maybe figuring it out, but my goodness, taste it before serving. Inedible. Table next to us, same thing. Staff said it was special seasoning and guest replied, "Yes, road salt." Enjoy this place but horrible meal. I've tried really hard to give this place multiple chances as I am staunch believer in supporting local businesses but after my third try, I'm done. We tried this place with another couple and while the food was good the service was terrible. It got to the point that I had to find other staff for service. Another time I was part of a group of 12, once again terrible service but I chalked it up to we were a large group. Both times we had reservations. The last time it was just my family of four. The server forgot to put our app order in and brought us the wrong food. Dinner took an hour and a half as a result. Just can't recommend this restaurant. read more

The Hazy Hound is the best and I'm not even normally a beer drinker. If you like pizza, try the buffalo chicken pizza with a side of ranch or blue cheese - so good! read more

This place has potential. The location is great, it's clean and bright inside with a awesome bar and floor-plan - icing on the cake is the awesome windows that open up to the street! However, the staff seem extremely out of it and disengaged. The beer was mediocre at best. I hope they can step up their game because this is the only brewery in Glen Ellyn and way behind others in the area. Amazing pub and brew house! Stopped here on a Wednesday for a late lunch. Building is clean and smells like burnt wood (in a good way). Beer Menu is great selection for anyone steering away from IPA craze and lookin for more traditional style beers. Everything I've had in house is delicious and hits the mark. Salad was put on top of the hot wings so it was wilted. For $75 -it was very disappointing. I want to keep my business local but since I've had issues here before we won't be going back there again. The staff here has treated me and my family well for quite a while. We are regulars that go once a week, at least. The Old Fashioned cocktail is our go-to starter and we also enjoy the brew selection. The food quality has been awesome. I talk to all the staff quite a bit and they know us well. They truly work their tails off to service the customers and I truly appreciate them. We've even had a couple of group events their using their back room. It was so cool. Yum. The names make you question if youre in a brewery or a 1940s work house but the beer! Fear, pain and hope make you hope for more! Werk Force makes you thirst for more werk... something I never thought I'd say and the pedestrian cider was anything but pedestrian. The white pizza was so good as were the smoked wings with cider barbecue sauce... cider house rules? Idk but it's good. Will be back for desert! This brewery is absolutely gorgeous when you step into it. Between the exposed wood beams to the brick walls, funky lights and industrial feel to it, the decor is just spot on and inviting. It's a place you don't mind coming in to sit with friends and grab some food and drinks. Luckily this brewery also has a full bar, because we weren't huge fans of the beer. I'm definitely not a beer connoisseur, but I feel like you should be able to find one beer that you enjoy. After trying three of them, I wasn't blown away by any of them. And actually the beer drinker amongst us couldn't as well. It's always the problem you have when trying a new brewery and the beer just isn't your style. So the full bar and excellent food help compensate for that. The food was great. We started off with the pulled pork nachos. They were layered in a nice wreath shaped ring so that more nachos actually had toppings on them to enjoy. It's always a shame when your pile of nachos are great until you remove the top layer and all of the chips underneath are missing the goodies. You won't have that problem here at all. The tortilla chips themselves were fantastic and actually tasted homemade. They were loaded with a black bean salsa, pulled pork, pepper jack cheese, a chipotle sour cream, and pico/salsa. We literally demolished these. We were so full that we decided on sharing one of the specials of the day, a hot honey chicken sandwich. The sandwich was presented nicely as we were sharing and already sliced in half for us, while also each accompanied with our own fries. Great service and we appreciated the extra step taken. The sandwich itself was also excellent as it had pickles, lettuce, and Dijon mayo on a nice brioche bun. The fries were home cut and salted perfectly. We would definitely come back here for the food, ambiance, great service and full bar. The beer left much to be desired but I'd definitely try some of the others in hope of finding a winner. read more

I stopped off at Two Red Hound Brewing on Saturday 4/30 for a late lunch. I visit craft breweries as a hobby (or a pitiful quest for the perfect brew). The establishment is on a busy street & while I found parking in the lot, I'm certain I got the last open spot in what appeared to be limited space. It's a nice looking open space when you enter. When I did enter, I noted there was no identified host or hostess & servers were buzzing around without a lot of awareness to the front door. I flagged down a young male server who stopped briefly at the front of house, but would have walked past me had I not said anything. When I did, his demeanor appeared somewhat put out/annoyed and vaguely disinterested. I needed to instruct him that I was indeed a patron who just entered and needed assistance. This wasn't a good start. He walked me to a seat of my choice and departed without offer of drink, nor a "your server will be right with you." What happened to training staff on basic customer service? Another gentleman & different server observed me after about 5 minutes and brought me menus, etc. Much nicer and more cordial demeanor. I was served a flight of four beers of my choice including several ales, a quad and stout. Everything tasted ok but nothing stood out as distinct; the flavors blended together which may have been my taste buds at the time of day or the fact that I hadn't eaten and was hungry. The food I ordered was the beer cheese soup and brussel sprouts. The soup's texture was a little odd in that it seemed to have cauliflower in it or some kind of purée I wasn't expecting. The actual beer cheese flavor was very subdued or very minimal seasoning. The sprouts were well cooked and a large basket that I couldn't finish; I would have liked them a little more cooked/crispy, but they were ok. More dipping sauce at the onset would have been appreciated. They had a change of shifts (4pm) when I was there & my new male server was very friendly and accommodating. I got two free brewery stickers and a coaster when I asked for a sticker. Nice gentleman. Overall, some minor inconsistency in service, but overall a nice visit. The newest restaurant/brewery in GE. Have to give them two thumbs up. First off, the decor: The building used to be the local pharmacy, there's no trace of that whatsoever. Very well done. High ceilings, exposed interior and open front windows. Have enjoyed the food, drinks and service each time I've been here. The bar area is welcoming, music is great. Bf is a beer drinker and he said the beer was good. I invited a friend to meet me here and received nothing but compliments from her (not an easy task) especially since she drove from south side of Naperville. After two visits can say they have made the rotation. Great for family and kids. Excellent Mac and cheese. It is not perfect yet but as new restaurant their is a learning curve and growing pains to get it all dialed in. I feel these other reviews maybe a little harsh after a visit condemning the poor service. My servers have been great and the gentlemen I had tonight was on point. Next the drinks. Full on point. Vote for Pedro and the great Santini are superb. Bar manager knows his craft and even made me a custom drink that was also excellent. I have have been to many cocktail bars around the country and have to say he is on par with any of the best. Food both visits was good. Not the best ever. But solid 8 of 10. Salmon and halibut were great both visits. Mac and cheese and apps were excellent. Only complaint would be halibut and my sons burger were slightly over salted. Came here with my boss one day as we were out and about and we decided to give it a try. She started with the shrimp cocktail and I had the wings. She said the shrimp cocktail was good and I really liked the wings. The BBQ sauce is spicy (to me) which was surprising but it tasted good. Wings are very messy. I wish the celery and carrots were sticks and not shavings. We decided to split the chopped salad as our server said it was "big" but we ended up ordering another because we wanted more than our split portion. I think it could use a different dressing than blue cheese, with the crumbles it was a bit too much blue cheese, but that's just me! Curbside pickup was great. They had someone waiting in the parking lot to ask your name as you pulled up then grab your order, so it was quick and easy. Food was excellent--Cowboy burger, Flatbread sandwich were delicious. Our toddler loved the chicken tenders (and she's hated them at other places).
