Fortunately the pork itself wasn't too dry, but the color was two shades past dark brown, was definitely over fried. Service was lovely and water refills came very frequently. I myself found the tonkotsu broth a bit salty but that is par for the course, just felt it flattened out the flavor somewhat, felt I could taste dashi more than the bone flavor. If you're an udon fanatic, you'll like Udon Mugizo. My favorites are the tonkotsu udon deluxe which has a nice blend of pork and fish broth, and the nabeyaki udon. The nabeyaki comes piping hot in a clay pot, which I love. The tempura curry udon is decent, though I've had better. I will say, everything besides the nabeyaki can come out a bit lukewarm which is why I'm knocking it down a star. For the noodles: - Tonkotsu Udons are rich. They have three variations with different meat and toppings. The broth is the same. - Nabeyaki Udons are very good. It's in a lighter brother with chicken. Both Udons are good, depends if you want lighter or richer broth. They also put the shrimp tempura in it. Personally I don't like it being soggy. I always ask for th shrimp tempura on the side and skip the tempura bits. If you need to use the bathroom, they only have 2 individual ones. The isle to wait for the bathroom is very narrow and it's between the kitchen and the dining area. Best dinner I've had in Mountain View! We visited on a Friday evening and waited about 20 minutes to be seated. We added our name to the Yelp waitlist while we were on the way there but the wait time was fast enough that we probably didn't even need to. We were sat immediately when we got there. Our server was very sweet. I am not a fan of seafood so I asked her about recommendations for less fishy tasting dishes as some come with a fish base. She made sure to clarify if it was a preference or an allergy so she could give me a more accurate suggestion. I ended up getting the curry tempura udon with all vegetable tempura. My boyfriend got the mini donburi combo with udon. The serving sizes are so filling that we couldn't even finish all the food. Edit: Hi Yoshi, since you mentioned onsen tamago, I would hope that you know how one would taste. It suppose to have soft but white egg white with a runny and slight creamy egg yolk. While walking up and down the street on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, we decided to have lunch at Udon Mugizo. We had to wait 5 minutes or so, and were seated inside. There's also plenty of seating outside as well if you prefer so. The restaurant inside isn't big by any means, but it's charming. We decided to start with the corn tempura. We had this dish at multiple other restaurants and loved it. It came out hot, and was delicious. The sauce was light but gave it just enough flavor. My fiancee went with the cold spicy niku udon, it was amazing. There was plenty of beef, egg and the chili paste/sauce really provided the heat. We were told to use the sauce sparingly and not pour it all in at once. I went with the classic tonkatsu udon. I went with the regular size, but next time, I'm going large. The noodles were fantastic, had a nice texture, with a little chew. The pork was nicely cooked. The big wow was the broth. It was packed with so much flavor, you can tell it's been cooking for some time. It was mind blowing how good the broth tasted. I highly, highly recommend the tonkatsu. Anther great find for udon. There is a communal high top table. They are many classic food options here but I wanted to eat a little lighter. I ordered the Nabeyaki Udon which has a fish broth and a medley of ingredients (chicken, two tempura shrimp, mushrooms, green onions and tempura batter bits). I was pleasantly surprised how TASTY this was! The broth was flavorful and light; almost like a chicken broth. Next time I'll ask to have the shrimp tempura on the side since the coating gets soggy when immersed in the soup.
