My perfect comfort meal! This Mountain View location on Castro Street is cozy and warm, an overall good vibe for a meal and conversation with friends and family. The server was super patient and nice, and the food comes out very quickly. There's a large variety of items on the menu, from udons (brothy, creamy, cold) to bento boxes to rice bowls. Everything looked and sounded delicious, making it hard to pick! I ended up ordering the mentai cream sauce udon, and boy was I happy with my choice! The bowl comes with cod roe, parmesan cheese, tempura bits, and seaweed flakes. The cream sauce was super savory and umami, subtle seafood flavor without tasting fishy. If you can't picture it, it's alfredo-adjacent but seafood style and much better. The udon was chewy and al dente, perfectly coated by the sauce in each bite. Super comforting meal, and I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu!

Great experience overall, no complaints from me. The food is tasty and high quality. Service was great as well - just the right amount of attention, including keeping our drinks and water filled. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we went for lunch, and I appreciate that they let us stay quite a bit longer to hang out even though we were too full to order more food. If you like larger portions, definitely go for the large. They mentioned it's 50% larger than their regular size, and generally only a few more dollars for each dish. The two of us who had the Nebeyaki Udon really enjoyed it. My only wish is that they would put the tempura shrimp on the side so that it doesn't get too soggy. One of us had the Niku Bukkake Udon and really enjoyed that as well, especially since it was a warm day outside. The restaurant itself is nice and clean, and the seating is spacious, allowing for a feeling of some privacy. I appreciate they don't pack everyone in together.

The restaurant's interior brick clad walls and the warm soft ambient lighting provide a comfy rustic feel. The seating layout leaves a wide walkway in the center of the dinning room, allowing the dinning experience feel intimate even when people are seated nearby. The service was excellent. It was our first time at the Udon Mugizo, so the server offered to walk us through the menu. He explained the differences between dishes and their sizes. He even offered to show us images on his hand held ordering device since we were debating over what dishes to get. We were celebrating a birthday and the birthday celebrant received a free dessert. Kind, patient and helpful. Excellent customer service. The Order: Crispy Onigiri Bites -Chopped up pieces of well done pork Chashu with some delicious sauce and fresh green onion, all on top of crispy rice. A great starter. Tonkatsu Udon Deluxe (no spice) -The broth was well balanced. Full of flavor and not too salty. The shrimp tempura wonderful, even though it was slightly submerged so it was as crispy as I hoped. The deluxe comes with a cube of braised pork belly, and it was so tender and sweet. I could eat an entire plate of it! The noodles were perfect, soft and flavorful. The egg was sweet, but I wish I would have eaten it sooner, as I prefer the egg to be a creamier. I definitely recommend the Deluxe. Vegetable Tempura & Broccoli Tempura -A beautiful and tasty assortment of pieces. The corn was a stand out since it was off the Cobb, being held together by the tempura batter. It was delicious, with a batter that was not overly thick. Both were nice side dishes during our dinner. Kurogoma Mochi Ice Cream -The mochi may tend to stick to the paper lining, and picking them up with your fingers can be slightly sticky. The nutty flavor from the black sesame ice cream is fantastic. The pairing with the sweet chewy mochi exterior is a wonderful pairing. Matcha (Green Tea) Ice Cream -Delicious and creamy. Not overly sweet. A nice subtle creamy flavor. A great way to end the meal. The food and the service truly make this place stand out. Everything had a well balanced flavor, with the components to each dish (appetizer/side dish, soup, dessert) having a wonderful flavor journey through each bite, as the various ingredients take turns on center stage as you work your way through each dish. I will be coming back to try more of the menu, and I recommend you do too.

Pretty solid bowl of Udon Chashu pork with a good amount of protein. The egg was cooked with amazing flavor and the broth was very umami and rich. Consistency of the noodles also hit the spot. Would come again! Depicted below is the beef donburi my partner got that came with a side of Ufon. Service was incredibly polite and fast. The waiter wanted to help us get the bento boxes which are usually for take out and we appreciate that. Vibes of the restaurant were pretty great, seating was very plentiful on this weekend day.

I visited Udon Mugizo again and always enjoy coming back here. The outdoor seating was really nice at first, but some stuff from the trees kept falling into my water and even my udon, so I ended up moving inside. I always get the tonkotsu deluxe with spice and it never disappoints. The noodles are great and the broth is rich and flavorful. It can get a bit salty, so I don't recommend adding the extra spice powder they provide. Will be back!!

The service was attentive and their in house made udon was perfectly textured chewy. I actually prefer the cold udon since it's more flavorful and the udon keeps its bouncy texture compared to the hot udons. The tempura was honestly really mid. The tempura batter was extremely thick, heavy, and a little oily. Would recommend the cold Niki Udon

I LOVE coming to Udon Mugizo whenever I'm visiting friends in the area! Sometimes there's a short wait, but there's plenty of shops in the area to peruse while you're waiting. The seating inside is so cozy, and the food always hits the spot. The tonkotsu broth was so flavorful and the fish powder cut through the fat so well. Service was also very quick and efficient; our servers were very attentive, even with a full house. Highly recommended for a night out in downtown Mountain View!

Mar 2026 - lunch service If you are ever in town or in Mtnview and want to have a special Udon, or Japanese treat ? - this place has you covered ! Excellent service, clean, nice setup and the food arrives hot and fresh as advertised ! ...or cold if you get the cold Udon dishes

Charming little udon shop with both indoor and outdoor seating. Located on a quaint strip with other popular shops and restaurants, so parking can be tough to find at peak hours. I had a nabeyaki udon and thought it was just okay. It felt a bit heavy for me. My boyfriend really liked the mentai cream udon, which is one of their signature dishes. Service here is good.

I've been to several Udon Mugizo locations, and every single one is a unique, delicious experience! The MV store is decorated beautifully. The interior features wooden furniture, warm lighting, and plenty of booths. Its atmosphere is cozy and inviting! I visited with a party of five on a Thursday evening, and we were seated after about a ten minute wait. It was pretty busy in the store, so there was a pleasant chatter that added to the warm ambiance. The employees were super efficient and offered great recommendations. The food at Udon Mugizo never disappoints! The quality across all their restaurants is consistently good. Every bowl of udon I've had has been solid and full of flavor. This time, I tried the Mentai Cream Sauce Udon. This was probably my favorite udon I've tried here. It was the perfect combination of umami and creamy. The sauce was rich and decadent, and the noodles had a great bounce to them. I probably finished my bowl in a couple minutes because of how good it was! My friends were also really impressed with their selections. You can't go wrong with Udon Mugizo, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Came here on a Tuesday at 12:30pm; there were a few people standing ahead of me waiting. We were offered a table outside. In the interest of time, we accepted, even though it was a bit cold outside. Unfortunately, the standing patio heater wasn't working that was next to our table. Not a huge deal, but would've been nice while we waited for our udon. I ordered the tonkotsu udon and the broth was SO rich & flavorful. The udon noodles were chewy and fresh. Great portion size, I would definitely return. It's nice that there are multiple locations in the Bay Area.

    KIDS MINI UDON
    Carmel P.

Had a great meal here last night! Everything was well priced and portions were reasonable. I got the kids mini udon which came with plenty of food for the kids and was only $10. For myself, I got the tonkotsu deluxe in regular size and I was totally full by the end of the meal. The chicken karaage is also a note ale mention- crispy on the outside and super juicy on the inside My husband also enjoyed his meal It was surprisingly busy at 545 on a Friday so make sure to sign up for the Yelp waitlist before heading over ! We don't have to wait long though Overall a great family friendly spot with good food. Well defs be back!

I will say that sometimes their broth is a bit spicier than described, so just keep that in mind! You can always spice it up with the sauce bar if it's not spicy enough for you. The service is usually fairly good. It's self serve while you build your bowl of toppings, most of the service is at the beginning then just refilling water and giving you a to go container. It gets pretty busy, so it can be noisy and a bit of a tight squeeze between tables. The wait isn't too bad though because there's a lot of tables!

I selected 4 beef rolls, half a tube of soft tofu, two shrimps with the head, two lobster/crab fish balls, two types of mushrooms, baby bok choy, broccoli, and achoy. It came up to 1 pound 4 ounces and I selected the tom yum soup. It was a little salty but delicious and more than enough for one meal. I dipped it in chili sauce for added spice. There was a spice center with different spices, green onions, & sauces. It is one pound minimum for $14.99 lb. I was super full. Next time, I would take half of it home. Service was great. We walked up to sign in and they asked how many and gave us a table. We filled our bowls and someone was sitting at the assigned table. The cashier had someone move them so we were all good. The place is actually clean considering all the different bowls of raw ingredients to choose from. Tables were white with plastic orange/black bowls, chopsticks, and orange plastic spoons.
