The balance between the lobster meat and mayo was perfect. The bun was nice. More of a brioche than a bun. It was also served with Cole slaw, drawn butter, and fries. The fires were just OK. A little less crispy than I like. My wife had the chicken fajita wrap which she liked, but said was a little dry. She asked for additional sour cream and salsa, but never got it. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The food was just OK. We had very American chili (low on seasoning) and the fish and chips were not bad. Giving it two stars because our server was attentive and friendly. Inside smelled as if there was a leak in the bathroom and the air was damp. We both ordered the chicken chipotle panini and were underwhelmed considering it cost $15. The panini was pre-sliced chicken (the kind you add to salads that's super rubbery with fake grill marks) and chipotle mayo with a bit of melted cheese. The side of black bean and corn salsa was about the size of a quarter and sprinkled over a heap of lettuce I'm assuming to make it look larger. Overall not worth the time or money. read more

Had one the worst lunches ever. The kitchen must not have a clue or they just don't care. Atmosphere was nice and beer was good but flounder was served raw chicken tenders were burnt and the sorriest cheese steak ever. Completely dried out with two slices of white American cheese not even melted. The ugly mug inside looked like a very chill bar to grab food and drinks with my coworkers. My company took a few of us out and gave us gift cards to have spending money in Cape May. (THEY DO NOT ACCEPT GIFT CARDS) The service was not that great and are waiter was talking to a girl right behind us with our check for 10 minutes. We had to get up and go to him to get our check. To then later find out that they do not accept gift cards as payment. Even though they took and processed my other co worker only a few minutes before. I ordered a margarita, onion rings and one of the burger specials. The margarita was awful. It it was way too salty and I couldn't drink it. The onion rings were good. The burger looked disgusting. It was supposed to come with mushrooms, but I didnt see any. The provolone cheese was melted, but resolidified into a greasy blob by the time it got to me and the "onion straws" on top were ice cold like they had been pulled straight from a freezer and allowed to thaw on top of the hot burger. Three weeks in Cape May and 1st time visiting Ugly Mug. We were a party of three and arrived around 8:30 on a Sunday night. Seated promptly but surprised it was super active inside. I ordered fried crab cake sandwich- delicious. Husband ordered the Sriracha burger and devoured it. It was spicy so he needed my chips and his Cape May IPA to tone it down. Best was our friend who got the prime burger medium rare. She said it was delicious but it wasn't "structurally sound". To be fair, the beef did fall apart but apparently just as tasty with a fork. Not worth it to argue over. I even took it upon myself to ask "did someone not show up for their shift or something?" I always come to the Ugly Mug when I'm in Cape May to buy their famous lobster roll. They give you a generous amount of lobster, a side of melted butter and coleslaw and fries. It's the best lobster roll I've ever had and is well worth the money. My issue is that we ordered very simple things (club sandwich and an order of chicken tenders with Buffalo sauce) and they got both orders wrong. When we informed them they just said sorry and didn't attempt to fix the order. I was walking into the restaurant and I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The lady that walked us in was polite and got us to a clean table as quick as possible. We immediately received the drinks we requested, and had already gotten our order taken. I struggled a bit while picking my food because of all of the choices because I can be indecisive, but I soon ordered The Big Garden Salad and received it within 15 minutes. I only like shrimp in very specific ways, but WOW! It was delicious! The seasoning was perfect. All in all, the service was amazing and very quick, and our server was very kind and met all of our needs. They checked on us twice to make sure we enjoyed. WHAT HAPPENED HERE? My family and I have been vacationing in Cape May for over 20 plus years. We are frequent customers of all the local restaurants. Especially, on Washington Street. Compared to years past, we cannot believe current state of the Ugly Mug. Despite the server, Virginia, being courteous, the place was a dump. Not an exaggeration. There was pieces of food from the prior customers on our table when we were seated. There was food around ALL the tables on the floor. The men's bathroom rivaled that of a NJT truck stop for being disgusting. The floor had liquid, which wasn't water, all over it. We saw this last year and thought it may have been a one-off. However, two years in a row? We had dinner a bit later and although the place was not packed, the wait was beyond excessive. It took the waitress 12 minutes to bring us water and one beer from when we sat down. The waitress was taking the orders of three tables before she went and processed the first order on the POS. Think about that. Instead of putting our order in with the kitchen, she went and took orders at two more tables thus backing up the kitchen and extended the wait. This is restaurant 101. It took 36 minutes for the waitress to bring us three BLT and one burger. The BLT bread was not toasted. The bottled Corona was not cold. Simply put, management is not paying attention to any of the details no are they managing in any capacity. They are simply cashing in on the high volume of consumers who visit Washington street with no care for quality or customer service. This place has become a total dive. They are only surviving because of location and volume of tourists. Try Tisha's or Delaney's Irish Pub of your looking to eat at Washington Mall. Carney's is great option for Beach Ave. Saltwater Cafe is ideal for breakfast and lunch. Next year, I'll walk in and see if I could use the bathroom and take a look around to see if they address these issues. read more

We were good sports about it though, they were clearly overwhelmed. The service was prompt and attentive despite the volume of customers. The food and drinks were OK and nothing more. My burger was fine and cooked to my specified "medium rare." Our margaritas were served in pint glasses without salt. The salads were appetizing looking but comically large - easily fit to feed 3 hungry adults. Three of the diners in our party ordered their own salad.
