I felt so bad after how I saw the employees were being treated today had to write a good review. Every time I come in here the gals are always super kind. The Clinique gal helped me so much today and she was coming back and running to the cashe register and coming back to the Clinique area. She was doing her best while the store was unusually full . She did try to explain that they were short staffed today but these college girls were just annoyed that they had to wait in line and were being so rude. Even as I was checking out the girls were right in my space right In front of the debit card machine I had to ask one girl to move so I could pay. For being short staffed and putting up with all the attitude they get all day I'm amazed at how kind the employees are here. The gal named Celeste is always nice too. I feel that this store has bad ratings because we're near a college town and if they don't get help right away there quick to come on here and complain. I live about 6 minutes away and have frequented this store for years. It sucks that these college kids come in with their sorry attitudes and complain about everything. Employees were cold and acted both judgmental and weirdly almost suspicious of me. I spent a lot of money and made it clear I was willing to do so and they were unhelpful and overall just odd. Girl at the cash register was also extremely quiet and weird. Older manager-type woman just didn't really want to help me and no one else did either? Confused who is hiring these people or why this is the atmosphere they want. When I got home, my friends all said they had similar experiences there. The customer service here is terrible. Nine times out of ten when I go in, I spend 15 minutes just looking for a person who actually works there. About a week ago, I asked a woman for help with finding a toner, I was passed along about 5 different people before one of them actually helped me. She asked me what I was looking for in a toner and I asked her for something more moisturizing and gentle and she replied, "do you even know what a toner is?" and told me that toners weren't moisturizing, and they were meant for exfoliation and removing make up and kept trying to sell me something I didn't want. Today I went in and saw a moisturizing toner while I was looking for pore strips. Ha. Also the pore strips I want are never stocked, and after looking for someone to ask if they had more in the back for like 10 minutes I put everything I was going to buy back and walked out. This is only a review of the brow bar. I've had nothing but great experiences with the Benefit brow bar in Walnut Creek, Ca., so I wasn't at all nervous coming in. I should have been. I almost got up when the woman used a color that looked nothing like my eyebrows, but I didn't and that was my mistake. Not only did she was my EYELIDS, but she made my eyebrows entirely uneven. She knew this and I knew this, but she clearly didn't know how to fix them and I was worried she'd take them off entirely so I just left. I won't be coming back, and hope this review helps others avoid my experience. read more

It's not a problem with the number of products they carry or the brands of products they carry. It's not a problem with parking. What I have a problem with is the lack of staff on the floor to help customers. You go into Sephora, and there is one staff person every couple of feet. When I go into Ulta, I can never, ever, EVER find anyone to help me. I will stick with Sephora! read more

I love coming to Ulta for all the drugstore brands and hair care because of the lack of Targets/Wal-Marts in the area. I usually come in and just look at everything and I can't say a time where I really needed any help. However, I was in here just the other day and I was asked by three different people if I was doing okay or had questions which I liked. I will admit that every once in a while their inventory can be low for mostly the drugstore brands and NYX. I was looking for dupes and they didn't have the NYX setting spray I was looking for. All in all, this place is good, not the best Ulta but I've never had a bad experience coming in here. read more

As with all Ulta stores, the selection of different brands they carry is good. This Ulta, however, lacks in the experience that many others strive to bring. None of the sales people were even in sight when I went in. I was purchasing one item and had to wait 30 minutes in line as they only had 2 people ringing customers. One of the cashiers didn't seem to care about the line and was chatting away with the customer she had while the other clearly had no motivation to move quickly. Definitely will make the drive downtown to Sephora for all make up purchases. read more

This place is a hit or miss, sometimes they have full stocked shelves and other times they're empty. I only come here when I'm in need of my drugstore brand items. Many times I have been interested in purchasing bare minerals but there's no one around to help me. I would only suggest coming here if you already know exactly what you need. Ulta isn't the place to explore a new beauty regimen because the associates are unwilling to help. I suggest sephora for that. read more

This review is for the salon, not the store. I went in the day before Valentine's Day to get rid of the red in my hair. I was tired of it and I needed a change. My stylist was the salon manager and my first red flag should have been that she was asking another stylist what color she should use to get the red out of my hair. She only waited 20 minutes to wash the color out and when she was done she dried a little bit of it and noticed that the color did not take. SHOCKER! Then she tried to make excuses that the color of the salon is orange so my hair is just reflecting it. Wrong! She told me to wash it a few times and see if I like it. I didn't like it! So I made another appointment 3 weeks later and she sat me down and told me that she doesn't feel comfortable doing my hair because she's only been there for 2 months!!!! WTF! I wasted $80 on the first appointment and she completely wasted my time the second time. She told me to find a different person who can do it and she even recommended that I do the color stripping myself. There's no way I'm going to do that!!! If she didn't know what she was doing, she shouldn't have tried to dye my hair in the place! She should have given me my money back! Never going back to the salon again! read more

I work down the street from Ulta, and have walked over on a few lunch hours with my boss or coworkers. Every SINGLE time we have been there, and anyone has purchased something that had a "gift with purchase," not only do they NOT have the gift available, but whoever helps us is rude. This is 4 separate occasions. To add to this, my husband once stopped by on his way to get me, to pick up a surprise for me, at this Ulta location, and had picked up something that said it had a free gift with purchase. SURPRISE! I got my hair cut with Jessica at the salon, and I had the best experience with her. Going from fairly long hair to pixie is always a big step, but Jessica was excited from the start. She listened to what I wanted, and we worked together to make sure it was a perfect cut for me; funky yet functional style-wise. Even though it's short, she cut it in such a way that I can wear it in a number of different ways and it still looks fabulous. She was a delight, and I've gotten so many enthusiastic compliments on my hair, I cannot thank her enough! She recommended products without being pushy, and suggested the smaller bottles first just to make sure it would work out. No overselling, and very reliable suggestions as I can definitely style my hair at home with ease. I will be going back to her again!! read more

While I generally find what I need at this store, both the customer service and the clarity of what is and isn't in stock needs work. I have multiple times checked the availability of an item online only to find that it was in fact not in stock when I got to the store. This leads into my second complaint, the way that the workers address customers. Due to the fact that the online availability can be misleading, i called the store in addition to checking online, to see if the NYX matte liquid liner was in stock yet. The woman repeatedly cut me off while talking, and upon telling me that it wasn't in stock, despite the fact that the website said it was, all that she had to say was 'bye.' She didn't ask if I had any more questions, she just hung up the phone. Another instance of bad customer service did not come from rudeness but from ignorance. I'm not sure if the woman attempting to help me one day was new or just under-studied, but I asked her questions about cruelty-free products and am sure that she was making answers up. Id have rather had her refer me to someone else in the store than give me wrong answers. Had I bought something on her recommendation that was not cruelty-free I would have been completely infuriated. While I love the company, this particular store needs to step up its game. read more

I have never been to an Ulta store before I have always been a loyal Sephora VIB Rouge member but I figured I would see what all the hype was about......1) I agree with what everyone is saying about absolutely horrendous services! Tiffany at the salon is amazing! I have known her for years and followed her here from her previous work. She is the only person I'll let touch my hair on the west coast. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! There is one employee working at a register at a time when there are 10 people in line, and the rest of the 8 employees are just standing around. DO NOT go into this store unless you have hours on your hands because you will not make it out of the store efficiently or happy with their service. I shopped at Ulta in Goleta today and even though they were wild busy - holidays, I get it - they were nice and helpful. I suspect that they have a lot of newer seasonal help but the person who helped me asked me my name and found me after she finished with someone else. She introduced me to the Clinique rep who really knows a lot about all the lines in the store. The managers who were working the registers kept thanking people in line for their patience. Overall a really nice albeit a bit lengthy visit. I will shop there again next weekend but will avoid peak hours. read more

Go in the store to do your shopping! The online order system absolutely sucks. Everything went wrong on a simple 2-item order. And the customer service department cannot take an order over the phone -- it must be placed by the customer. I tried two different credit cards and Paypal. The first rep I talked with (after 60 minutes of trying) gave me a $15 coupon but later when I tried to use it, it didn't seem to take (and she said it would). DON'T get your hair cut at Ulta Salon in Goleta. Alexia aka Lexie cut my hair on March 4. I had to leave town the next day on business. She layered the back and contoured my front. She completely forgot the cut the sides. One side of my hair was at least 2 inches longer than the other. I went back to the store when I returned from my business trip. Talked to the manager. She took my name and number and said Tiffany (Salon manager) would call me and get me in to fix my hair. Seven days pass. No call from Tiffany. Went back to store and talked to yet a different manager. She took my number and said Tiffany would call me. Two months later and I finally got the nerve to go to my old stylist to fix my horrible hair cut. Ulta stylists are inexperienced. Saloon customer service is the worst! The Salon manager Tiffany is basically nonexistent. Ulta store managers have no control over the Salon so don't waste your time talking to them. Waste of time, energy and money. They wouldn't even refund my money when I asked on my second trip back. If I could, I would have given it zero stars. read more

Julianna is exceptional at consulting on hair color and style. She's colored, cut and styled my hair a number of times and each time I get a lot of positive feedback...that's a plus! I notice that the dyes she uses don't irritate my scalp either...another plus. read more

So, I am torn on this review. I love Ulta because they carry both drug store brand makeup and the more expensive high-end makeup. The store is always clean and the ladies who work here are friendly enough but they really do not have a lot of product knowledge. There is NEVER enough people at the register and it's really hard to track someone down to ask them a question. Also, I've noticed that they have expired skin care products on some of their shelves which is NOT ok. It's always DDF and I've mentioned it to the staff several times but nothing ever seems to get done about it. I think the manager of this store sucks - thats the main issue. read more

This place is good for stocking up on cheap drugstore products. It seemed like they had a lot of hair care items. However I was unimpressed by the lack of variety with their skin care selection. Overall the store is bright and clean which is nice however the customer service is appalling. Nobody made themselves available on the floor and the check out woman was incredibly rude. I've never written a review before but this is the second time their "good quality" products fail! It's frustrating!! I'm in need of a new eye curler mine just broke has it for a good while so it's understandable. Anyways I send my boyfriend to get me a new one while I'm at work and I told him I'll pay him back later. He goes in and he obviously doesn't know where they are hell I don't even know where they are! But as soon as he find someone to help all they offer him is the most expensive eye curler there. He brings it home and damn thing doesn't even work! We returned and exchanged it for a different a little less expensive the next day the lady (don't remember her name) she's very sweet kind and friendly returns it. We go home and I try it out. AGAIN!! The stupid thing doesn't curl!! We went back to return it and a different lady gives a little attitude, but I mean really it's the second damn time these "great" products fail. We head to Kmart it's cheaper yet still have better quality than ulta! Never going there again! read more
