This review is only 2 stars because Ulta carries Morphe and Colourpop. If not for that I'd give 1 star. I'm going to sound just like the other reviews, because the customer service here is atrocious. Each and every time I have visited this store I've been ignored, dismissed and left feeling like the employees would rather gossip and complain than help customers. To this matter I've heard a manager complaining pretty loudly to staff on duty about other employees. (Trash talking your employees is always classy.) Generally speaking the store is messy and any time I've asked a question about a product or launch I've been treated like a bother. I called the store today regarding a launch and was not only given completely wrong information, but practically hung up on. I really hope upper management steps in and retrains store employees and managers on proper customer service. Over the last 2 years Ulta has gotten worse and worse. It has become the DMV of makeup stores. Sephora is literally right across the street, and I'll be taking my business over there. read more

I bought a Becca under eye concealer from Ulta on 3/17 to take with me on a business trip. Used it without checking carefully and when I got pink eye I checked out my eye make up closer and discovered that the Becca concealer was a "Tester" and had obviously been used prior to the once I used it. Not sure what to do about this yet. It certainly ruined my trip. read more

This is only for the "style bar." I made an appointment online for a blowout and that was super easy to use so one star for that. I was booked with Angelica, a friendly girl at 1pm on Friday, so far so good. She washes my hair , but doesn't wash where the back of my neck where my hair reaches my hair line, so I'm a little bummed but we continue with the wash. She gave a nice scalp massage and then fished with conditioner. We walk back to her chair and I let her know I would like a blowout so my hair looks smooth with a curl at the end. She agrees, starts to put hair product in but very little and I'm thinking "maybe this lady gives amazing blowout and doesn't need to put as much product as my normal stylist " so we continue and I'm watching how she's drying my hair and I'm already thinking "my hair is going to look crazy" the way she held the brush and used the dryer I knew my hair would be dry but not smooth . But I let her continue again hoping that she knows something I don't and she's going to turn this around and at the end of this appointment when I look in the mirror I will have smooth hair with a curl at the end. So I keep my head down trying not to look at the mirror. 30 minutes later she says she done and asked if I wanted hairspray, I say sure. I look up and my hair is dry but l look like a panda that just went through the car wash. I don't say anything and the girl doesn't ask if I like it as I think she can tell that I'm not really over the moon with it. So I ask her where to pay and hand her 10 bucks for a tip. She thanks me and walks away. So my lesson is I don't think Ulta has the most experienced stylist, but lesson learned. I know it's not my imagination as when I go home my moms there to visit and asks me where I have been so I tell her I went to get a blowout and she says " when are you going to go"? Lol! read more

Romina was extremely rude! My daughter had a gift to exchange (wrong color for her) and she refused to allow an exchange without a receipt. And since she didn't buy it, it wasn't listed in her ulta profile. So there was no other way she said. I had to look up their return policy on my phone to show her the policy states a store credit if no receipt. She still didn't want to do it and had to call a manager who then actually DID the store credit then let her make her new purchase with the store credit. What an absolute hassle! I left my items I was going to purchase there at the counter. Sephora can have my money! More than half the items I looked at were either in the wrong spot or unpriced also. I actually stood there and faced their Biolage section while I was waiting on my daughter. Seemed like they had plenty of workers yet couldn't find anyone to help on the sales floor. Shakila, one of the make-up reps there, was very helpful in assisting me find just what i needed. I'm so happy she inquired. I wasn't really sure where to start. Walking into a store full of "make me pretty" galore, can be a bit overwhelming when you are not sure what you want or what brand is going to work best for you. Fortunately, this gal was very friendly and fun. She asked me a couple of questions and gave me a few suggestions. Very conversational and kind. I took the products home and really liked them, especially because the concealer I got was a perfect match, and I saved Big time on a cheaper brand. I went to change my makeup appointment but there wasn't anyone at the salon counter, only a hair dresser with her client. The hair dresser looked at me like I was at the wrong place. Until I approached her, begged for her time and excused her client for the interruption. She told me flayed out that this counter is not for purchase before I could have told her if I could changed my appointment. She asked me to wait but I was able to find someone to help me. That person was on the radio while with me. I wasn't sure she was talking to me since I had to repeat myself couple of time until I asked her if she was talking to me or with the person on the radio. She happened to be a manager since I wanted to express my frustration on how I have been treated poorly but she was still on the radio. I went there because closer to my house. They treated you by how well dressed you appeared to them. I just came from my swimming session with wet hair and sandals. I moved to the area a little over one year ago and just recently began searching for an esthetician. Yesterday, I had my first brow wax at this location, with Sydney at the Benefit Brow Bar. The experience with her was delightful and I was very pleased with her service. During the service with her, another customer was requesting her assistance and had questions about their stock of make-up. Sydney explained that there was a supply issue, partially due to a recent theft of a large amount of stock. I was horrified to hear this, but I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised, since these types of occurrences have become even more common lately. After my service, I decided to spend some more time in the store shopping for lipstick and some other items. I take a very long time to make shopping decisions, and I had to crouch down in some of the aisles to look at the lipsticks, since much of it is stocked very close to the floor. At some point, I noticed a security guard appear at the end of the aisle, very close to me. He immediately began staring directly at me and hovered nearby, staring at me for a good 3-5 minutes (NOT an exaggeration)! It made me very uncomfortable and I honestly questioned if I was being racially profiled. I am Asian and African-American, but I have brown skin and others often perceive me as being only African-American. I just have never had such a blatant experience of being stared down by a security guard, although I have witnessed/experienced many very obvious profiling occurrences throughout my life while shopping with my African-American friends in my Midwestern hometown. After reading some of the other reviews of this store today and another previous comment about a brown-skinned woman being profiled, it adds to my suspicions. I do realize that maybe the guard was hyperalert due to their recent theft. However, if they are going to be treating customers so rudely, then I think the store needs to find a better way to target this issue. I have never stolen anything in my life, nor am I interested in criminal behavior, and it is very insulting to be treated in this manner. I wish I had spoken to management about this yesterday when I was in the store. Despite this, I ended up purchasing a lipstick and a nail polish, and now I kind of wish I hadn't. I was going to try to ignore the incident, but today I was rethinking that they should be made aware of the experience, because it definitely gives me a newly negative association with the store. I have been to this store on a few other occasions, and at least I can say that previous experiences were fine. Overall, I'm a big fan of this Ulta. I've always gotten good help when I come here. Specifically, I'm a big fan of Dawn at the Benefit Brow Bar. I have very thick, bushy brows and she takes such good care of them without making them too thin. I don't come here as much as I would like since I enrolled in grad school in LA, but at our last appointment I told her the good news and she told me how proud she was. The ladies here really went over and beyond for me today. Like no joke. I was about to leave after becoming frustrated and overwhelmed by alllll the options and as I was walking out the manager asked if I had found what I was looking for. I told her the truth and she called over an employee to come help me. That chick was totally sweet and tried helping me then made sure another employee would help me when she really couldn't (the other girl was like an expert on a certain line). I'm upset that I even have to give this place 1 star. I always leave with a bad taste in my mouth after visiting this location but it's the most convenient for me. I've been living in Irvine for 12 years and I have never felt what I felt at this store, today. I was beyond upset ( I think I might have even been shaking with anger at one point) my face felt so hot. I went in today because my young sister wanted to make her first purchase on her new debit card. It was my 2 sisters, 2 of their friends and myself. We were in the store for a while, trying to pick things out and we were probably going to be there longer since we hadn't even really decided on any higher end makeup. At one point my sister was going to get the real techniques sponges but I saw they had a 4 pack for 17.99 which is a better deal than their 10.99 double pack. I told my sister I would give her cash for the 17.99 if I could just have 2 of those. We were in an aisle where u can see the register areas and I was reaching in my purse with one hand and holding my phone or other items (i dont even remember) on the other, when I noticed a blonde girl staring at me, I kept my eyes on her too so she knew that I could see her. Then, another girl pops out from the side this girl was a brunette, (named kimmy) she continued to look at me then away than back at me. At that point I KNEW that they thought I was stealing. I pointed at my eyes and then at her and did a shoulder shrug which was my way of saying "what are u guys looking at". The brunette looked away immediately. At this point I'm livid ( im thinking that there is no way either of those girls could be the manager) i went around the store looking for a different employee to ask for the manager but only see someone applying makeup to a customer and didn't want to interrupt. I run into Kimmy (the brunette) and I ask her who the manager is and she tells me. Low and behold it was the first girl that was staring from the get go. I then tell her that I just wanted her to know that I knew what they were doing. I was very upset and she was apologetic but at this point that doesn't matter to me. She goes on about how they have been hit with theft so much lately and that everyone has been on edge. I DON'T CARE. Do you really think that's an excuse to me? Do you think that takes away the embarrassment you made me feel? I have worked retail before I KNOW it's frustrating when people steal BUT there are ways to deal with that. You don't make people feel bad especially since I have been coming to this Ulta for a while and its less than a mile away, my mom, aunt and I have even gotten our hair cut and dyed here ( it was done by Alby, who is super nice and sweet, we all like her). It's so disappointing and sad, I'm taking this allllllll the way to the top if I have to. There's no way I am the first person this has happened to and I don't wish it on anyone. I told her there a way more effective ways to deal with something like that. If anyone would have come up to us and offered to help they would have known what we were looking for or doing or whatever. Drive the extra miles and go to The District location, I have been helped by the manager herself when I went to return a foundation for my sister right before prom because she was matched incorrectly at this location. I complimented her for being a kind and told her that I wish I got that vibe from this location and she said she gets those comments often. After reading a few reviews about this place, I'm not surprised.If you don't try to hide the fact that you're keeping an eye on me you better be ready to apologize when you are wrong. We were not done shopping and we left with 2 things because I didn't want to leave everything I didn't want them to think I was stealing, although now I regret spending $ here and not walking out. The manager was no where to be seen after that. It's never a great experience here but I'm not a super petty yelper so that's why this is my first review on this place. I have to say that so far, the Ulta at the District has a better selection and a more seasoned staff. That said, the ladies at this location are still very, very attentive and helpful with a smile. Today, a few of the shelves on the less expensive side of the store (L'Oreal, Almay, Physician's Formula, etc.) were empty! It was a trip. I've never seen an Ulta store like that. Of course, I still left with more than what I had planned to purchase. I was very happy that they finally got the Anastasia Brow Pen that I'd read about. I couldn't remember why I didn't go to the Ulta until I walked in there lady around 710. I got my item at 7:22 according to my receipt. MOST USELESS, no helpful team of girls ever. No wonder I go to Sephora across the street. I walked in, I was greeted quickly by greeter when she was helping someone - good job. I walked by the same 3 women (all employees) standing by the benefit bar several times, not one noticed me (clearly I was looking for something and no one cared). They were all gossiping in a circle - then another gal who was stocking items walked me and ran her hand into a display - I asked her if she was okay she said yep and again - didn't acknowledge I was a customer. Later I asked her for help and when I found out their went samples of what I was lookIng for and said it's okay I'll use my sisters and to test - she didn't offer another product I would like or do a demo. And let me be clear, I didn't ask but I did notice the lack of initiative and customer service. Then I waited a small bit to be rung up, 2 girls at the counter saw me as there were helping a lady with a large bag from behind the counter - made eyeccontact but no smile, no acknowledgement and no "we will be with you in just one moment". I came in here to purchase a blow dryer as an emergency since mine broke last night. There was a wonderful girl who helped me try to pick out a blow dryer, I can't recall her name but she had blue hair. Super sweet and very helpful. However when I went to check out, there was a fellow named Andrew who gave the worst attitude because I didn't want to sign up for their rewards program. I don't purchase beauty products so there isn't a need to accumulate points but he was very insistent on me providing my number and email. Afterwards, he wouldn't say anything and gave the harshest attitude. He gave me my bag and didn't include the receipt and when I asked he gave more attitude. I've worked retail and in customer service and understand rewards programs very well. They are beneficial to customers who are frequent shoppers and likely to return. I didn't appreciate the absolute worst attitude I've experienced being a customer and this was maybe 20 minutes after they opened and they weren't even busy. read more

When she tried to charge her purchases to the card, she was told that it was already used up. I contacted Ulta and was told, basically it sucks to be me. My sister has been the queen of makeup/skincare etc. for EVER! I think 60% of her house is just beauty products! LOL! I have become a fan of a few brands from Ulta, I'm no addict like her but this is the place to go when you need your fix LOL! We've been going to this location for over 2 years! Every time you walk in, your immediately greeted! (I'm a big stickler for that!) Occasionally there are decent employees working on the floor and offering to help you instead of having to track down help like a crazy person! Another reason I'm giving Ulta 4 stars is because of their flawless return policy! Even if you've used the product it's a hassle free return! They don't ask you 50 questions pertaining to why your returning the product, they truly want you to be happy and satisfied with your purchase. My sister bought me something online and when I tried it, the product flaked my hair. No questions asked, they looked up my sisters account and we had the packing slip and we were good to go! As a retail worker for the last 10 years, I know the job isn't fun, long hours, customers aren't the best and honestly feels like a thankless job sometimes. Despite all that I came in looking for what I wanted before I even asked. After 10 minutes of searching with nobody asking me I needed help, that's fine no worries there. I couldn't find it and went to ask, the cash wrap had like every worker behind there with about 2 people in line, seemed weird to have the entire staff back there but ok. I decided to ask someone restocking near the cash wrap she had her back turned to me and when I asked her she didn't even turn to acknowledge me answered my question with her back to me the entire time with an attitude, saying "yeah no, we don't have that". I left and ordered it online. What a weird store experience considering I've been to Ultas in "less" nice areas and was always greeted and helped really nicely. Benefit Brow bar at the Tustin MarketPlace: went with Dawn and was HIGHLY DISSATISFIED; my eyebrows are naturally thick and the end result was two thin lines that do not match, she was rude and pushy, she told me backhanded comments that offended me and my job and was super pushy about me buying mascaras even after I politely declined three times. Also, when I asked her if I could see them in a mirror because I felt like she was taking too much off she said no, it was so unprofessional. I am so disappointed and will never be going to the brow bar there ever again, requested to get a full refund back so hoping I hear back from customer service soon read more

So I'm giving this place 1 star because I have been there several times, and there is almost always a lack of service, a long wait in line to checkout, or bad management. I do like that they have a wide variety of brands available, but there have been a few times when they were out of stock on the one thing I came in to buy. I was there today at 5pm, and I was looking for a particular Benefit eyebrow pencil. They have a HUGE Benefit display at the very front of the store. They appeared to have every color but the one I needed, and as I looked around for help, it seemed like there were a couple of people that worked there, but they avoided me. So I circled the store a couple of times, and finally found the right color pencil in another area. I went up to the checkout, and was surprised that the line was not long, as it usually is, so at first I was excited. But when I was getting rung up, I let them know that I had a coupon from The Irvine Marketplace for $5 off my purchase. The cashier said that she needed to ask her manager about it, so I said, "no problem", and waited patiently. Not long after, the manager yells to me from about 15 feet away that the coupon is invalid, and won't work. I told her that I had just received it earlier that day. Then she yelled at me again and told me that I would have to provide my credit card number, and that she couldn't help me, instead of coming over to talk to me in a civilized manner. So rude! The takeaway is that the associates and managers DO NOT CARE AT ALL about your experience in the store. They would rather pretend that they don't work there, not open enough registers to move the lines more quickly, and if you say something about how the service and/or management could use some improvement, they just act like it's completely out of their hands, and they can't do anything to make it better. If you do get service on the sales floor, they will try to push you to buy a bunch of expensive products. Can't there be a "happy medium"?! This is my review of the Salon: I scheduled an appointment for 5pm. I arrived early at 4pm to check in and told the woman at the desk I would be shopping in the store. At 5pm I check in for my hair appointment again and I'm told by the hair stylist "Can you come back tomorrow?" (Which I couldn't) I was told they tried to call me twice. I had no missed calls or voicemails. The Salon manager then proceeded to tell me that my phone must be broken. I had just received a call 5 mins prior to her stating this. My phone was fine. Salon Manager then proceeded to tell me "Well, you must not have reception." I stated that I was in the store the entire hour and my reception was just fine. When I expressed frustration about the constant waiting and not keeping to appointments, Salon Manager sighed, rolled her eyes and gave me attitude and a half-hearted apology. She did call another Salon from the broken phones ("Oh, I guess its our phones are broken. Opps." Did I get an apology about her saying my phone was broken? Nope.) but they couldn't accommodate me for hours. I left frustrated and fed-up. This is the third time in a row that I have been made to wait for my appointment time. I understand waiting 15-20 mins BUT I had to wait over an hour at my last two appointment and now I'm being asked to come a different day? Whats the point of making an appointment, being on time for the appointment, if its just not going to be honored? There is some time management organization lacking at this location as well as customer service skills. read more

I'm very surprised this store has such a low rating - I found it to be pretty spacious and all the staff very helpful. Additionally it's a bit bigger than some of the other stores so they have a great inventory. They do try to sell you on things you don't need - I came to buy Nyx makeup finish, and the girl wouldn't show me where it was and tried to sell me on something much more expensive which was kind of a bummer, but is not unusual for this type of store. Overall I'd recommend this store of the Ulta stores just for the availability of staff and their extensive inventory! read more

I came in looking to overhaul my make up routine, ready to spend hundreds on new primer, foundation, powder, etc. One lady got me into a corner and insisted I needed to buy new skin care (after I had already explained that I just spent hundreds last week on a new skin care regimen) NO one tried to show me what I asked for...primer? I really like this Ulta! Very conveniently located for me, and the parking lot is sooo much easier to deal with than the one at the Tustin District (parking lots make it or break it for me). Sometimes it's hard to find someone to help assist you with something you're looking for, but once you do they're really helpful. I recently went in to get shampoo (Macadamia, normally $24 for shampoo and conditioner each but this time it was $22 for both!) and ask someone to help me find a face mask to hydrate my skin. I have come to this ulta many many times and its been good every time. I want to write my review today about the person who helped me today. His name is Anthony. He was beyond amazing and super helpful! He gave me so many tips and info that i needed. He also made me fee super comfortable. My daughter and I went to do some fragrance and makeup browsing/shopping on an evening during the week. This was our first time at this Ulta location (we've been to the District location a couple of times). And honestly, we are normally Sephora shoppers but thought we'd give Ulta more business. There was a security guard inside the store when we walked in (which I hadn't noticed at the District location before but it had been months since we'd been to that location). My first thought was, "Oh, they must shoplifters here." Then the security guard started following us around. At first I thought he was checking all customers coming in but he popped up everywhere we went! It was so annoying! We couldn't even focus at thr products we were looking at. Such a horrible experience! I regret now not complaining to a manager on site. I have NEVER experienced that at Sephora or other beauty stores. I'm still baffled as to why we were being followed. Ulta just lost a customer. What a shame. read more

Don't come here if you're POC, I am Mexican and my aunt is East African. As my aunt was getting consulted by two unprofessional ladies for skincare products were harassing her into buying a product and due to my aunt having allergic reactions to some products she was just overlooking the ingredients while these sale ladies asked "is it too expensive for you, is that why you don't want to buy it" which is very unprofessional and insulting to ask a loyal customer. Meanwhile all this I went to the fragrance area and was just spraying some of the testers. I noticed the security guard was posted up in the same area as me just at the corner, a few minutes later he came up to ask me if I needed help, I respectfully declined and he stayed there sort of just watching my every move. I soon left because I felt uncomfortable. I returned back to the fragrance area with my aunt to show her a few of the ones I liked and then again the security guard follows us and sort of watches our every move. Meanwhile there are other customers in the store as well but decided to just follow us around. The other two sale ladies posted up in front of the fragrance aisle as well sort of whispering into each other's ear while starring at my aunt who had an item in her hand. We decided not to purchase anything and left for a very unwelcoming and uncomfortable experience here. Not sure if this is an occurring thing to racially profile, harass and insult their customers but very disappointed in Ulta. read more
